Additionally the grocery selection is very limited. Appears they purchase lesser quality items in bulk (Great Value Mayonnaise rather than Hellmans for example). Want the place to do well, however for my family, better to take ferry over to mainland for purchases. read more

Absolutely terrible service and establishment. They used to allow dogs but with the terrible new owners, no more. They do have a small, segregated area outside the normal seating area for dogs, however, if you want just drinks, we were told you need to buy food as well. This is not how to run a restaurant based on tourists. Tell all your friends not come as the owners seem to have something against animals in the outdoor seating. We will never be coming back and telling all our friends to avoid this terrible place. I'd give it zero stars if possible. read more

Been coming to Frye Island for 8 years now. A family tradition has been going for ice cream. When all 11 of us arrived the first problem; the menu changed. OK could be good stuff. However it was hand written on a chalk board 1 foot by 6 inches. Very small. The only opportunity to read it was when you were directly in front of it. About 4 times to strangers I answered the question 'where's the menu'?!. I was looking for the sundaes, they no longer make them. I was in dismay. There is a problem when you can't provide whip cream and chocolate sauce. The ice cream tasted great. I love the clean look of the store even though many items had no pricing on them, always a red flag. No hardware available. That possibly didn't sell well so removing the hardware might have been the right decision. I have never seen the restaurant section empty. Sad to see. So I asked for a menu for the restaurant. Never got one. No games for the kids either. Reluctantly allowing a table for a dog. Bottom line: pricing has gone up on everything and the store has to import all items. That being said, Gordon Ramsey charges $25 for his burgers. You're no Gordon Ramsey. The new owners have completely misunderstood their clientele, both local and seasonal. I highly recommend you make other plans. Next year we make our own ice cream sundaes. read more

Fantastic service, the waitress was very curious where we were from and in our conversation we realized both my wife and her mother worked on the island at the same time in the 90s. The food was good and what I appreciated was the menu was very thought out, something for everyone. They even are dog friendly and have a puppy menu. read more

Took the boat with friends & ate lunch today at Frye's Leap Cafe. We had such a wonderful day. We started with drinks, chips, salsa & incredibly just made for us guacamole. Next my friends had burgers ( Excellent) and I had a veggie burger. The veggie burger was the best that I've ever eaten. Absolutely wonderful! Our server was a really sweet lady named Barbara. For being the only cafe option on this island the food and ambiance is pretty decent! I wanted a daytime snack and got their pretzel sticks thinking they would come out like they were just unboxed and heated breadsticks from Costco. I was pleasantly surprised by the three fat sticks that actually looked like pretzels and choices of generously portioned dipping mustard and beer cheese. They're perfect when washed down with a pairing of Frye's Leap IPA. I'm looking forward to trying the rest of the menu during my stay! read more

Considering this is the only place to grab a bite on the Frye Island (and one of the few places on Sebago Lake), the food was surprisingly good! Adjacent to the general store, Fryes Leap cafe is mostly outdoor seating and worth the ferry ticket or docking your boat (we also grabbed postcards!). They're known for their handmade pizzas, and they've got an excellent beer selection on draft. They had a Ballast Point Habanero Sculpin that I haven't been able to find anywhere else. My table ordered a pizza, a reuben sandwich, wings, and Mexican style corn, all of which hit the spot after a long day of swimming and boating. The food and view were definitely worth it. Don't forget to grab ice cream! read more

This was a fantastic experience! I will caveat that we canoed about 90 minutes to get here, so while I thought the food was delicious, it's possible this was slightly colored by how ravenous I was. In any case, no cooler experience than beaching a canoe in front of a restaurant, and then rolling in for lunch. Awesome! The fish tacos were really good! Big portions of fried fish, so tasty. The reuben was pretty good, too! It seems a little weird ordering a reuben while sitting, literally, in the middle of a lake, but it was tasty! Beer selection was awesome too, lots of good local and regional options. Atmosphere was awesome. Coming from our little quiet cove on the lake, it was like we had stepped into Times Square - boats coming and going, the ferries going back and forth, lots of people. It was a fun change from our tranquil camp. Highly recommend boating on over to this hot spot! Make sure you call ahead to see if they have dock space available - or beach space for your canoe!! read more

Regardless, they rolled with the punches and created a fun, delicious menu that could be prepared outdoors. I highly recommend the mango habanero margaritas, the brisket with their special blueberry barbecue sauce, and the coffee chip ice cream. read more

Ice cream stand is excellent. Price for ice cream was good. Store has the bare basics and t-shirts. Improvements: the store is carrying a wider variety of groceries, and if you don't see something, they can get what you need from the restaurant. Example: we needed a bag of mixed lettuce to make taco salad at our cottage. Didn't see it, so a worker went into the restaurant and brought back just what we needed. Sure, it's packed a little strange - but hey - that's good service. Minus: the prices for t-shirts and sweatshirts are a bit high. Takeaway: if you are an Island resident, you can pretty much get what you need to last until your next trip to Windham or until your next weekend guest can bring you what you need. Sure the price is higher, but you didn't have to buy another ferry ticket. read more

Tried to order a simple Tito's and soda....but alas, can only order frozen bar drinks off the menu, apparently due to their liquor license...interesting. We split the poke appetizer...it was a bit under portioned in my eyes, but had a decent aioli cream accent. My grilled shrimp Caesar was decent, if a bit under portioned with the dressing, but overall it was a fresh salad. Decent food as one of the few food spots on the lake. Solid three stars. read more

When our large family planned a week's vacation on Frye Island during 4th of July week, we decided we wanted to have a couple meals catered at the house we rented. We worked with Kevin, the catering manager, to plan a lobster feast and then a BBQ dinner. The lobster dinner included clam chowder, a personal test of how good the chef is. Well, we were very impressed. Chowder was excellent as were the lobsters and sides. Then the BBQ dinner arrived a couple days later-- so much food and so good! Do not worry that this little restaurant on this little island can satisfy your high standards. Kevin was easy to work with, very responsive to my questions, and always willing to make our dinner impressive. The restaurant itself is very small so if your family is large, have your dinner catered. We chose to pick up each meal. They were hot and easy to serve. Kevin and his staff rock! read more

Talk about making first timers feel incredibly welcomed! The owners Amy & Dave couldn't be more gracious and kind...only to be rivaled by their staff; Manager Kevin and Server Katie. They truly made our first experience with Frye Island one to be remembered when we showed up practically empty handed after leaving our Raymond pad on foot with $40 and no cards, not realizing the Ferry for 2 would cost $30. We will most definitely be coming back (& equipped properly to pay :)) for good food, drink and fun...maybe on Margarita Monday or a Wednesday night for Karaoke hosted by Dave, who I hear is an excellent fill in when there's a lull in the action! I have been coming to Sebago Lake for the better part of 40 years...we finally went to this place and was pleasantly surprised. We traveled by boat to get there and were able to get a slip almost immediately. The beer and food prices were reasonable. But the star of this place is the food and setting. We had 4 entrees: pizza, Mac and cheese, chicken Alfredo, and a pretzel board. All of us throughly enjoyed the food and will definitely go back (possibly this year) definitely next year when we return. read more

A fun place to dock the boat, jump off, grab a bite, buy a t-shirt and get ice cream while watching the car ferry come in and out. We had a large group with mostly kids and our waitress did a great job attending to our needs. It was busy and she took our orders, made sure our drinks were filled and kept everyone happy. They have many choices of t-shirts and general store merchandise for quick needs. We bought a few different t-shirts with fun Frye Island patchwork moose. The rice was as hard as rock but the beans were delicious! The Mexican Salad (despite the waitresses recommendation) was spicy for our older guest who made it quite clear that she didn't do well with any sort of "chipotle or spices"... we've had pizza here before and it was excellent, the clam chowder is also good. We hopped the ferry (almost impossible to find but I think that's kind of deliberate) and planned on getting lunch at Fryes Leap Cafe. It was 11:30am and we were the first people to arrive. The "greeter" rolled her eyes and reluctantly got up from her chair rolling napkins as we arrived in the truck (I guess you should arrive in a golf cart/boat....?) She tried to seat us way up on the porch - again, there was NO ONE there. We asked if we could sit on the deck overlooking the water. She hummed and hawed and said it wasn't usually "allowed" and then showed our party of 4 to a table for 2. There were 3 open tables for 4 people. We sat down with table legs where they shouldn't be/squished up against each other and 30 minutes later watched as parties of 2 were led to large open tables. Our waitress was awesome, the food was really good (I had some kind of BLT with spicy mayo and it was 9/10), Mr H said his chowder was great but the sullen "greeter" experience kind of marred our lunch. read more

We were fortunate to have friends who live in Maine and own a boat on Sebago Lake take us out for a few hours. We ended up at Frye Island and at the Fryes Leap Cafe. First of all, you gotta love a place where there is basically parking for restaurant patrons coming in via boat. Where is that option on the Yelp tips? The menu and food is very pub-like, but everything is executed extremely well, and the view is great - you're a stone's throw from the water. My burger was perfectly cooked, and my wife's lobster roll was the way a lobster roll should be - lobster, lobster, and more lobster, with a dash of mayo to keep it together while sitting in an overstuffed hot dog bun. read more

I've been coming here for as long as I can remember. Unless you're an islander, expect to get here by boat. Docking can be a challenge, but with the boating culture in Sebago, someone will help by grabbing a line. Great views, good food, a store attached with fresh muffins and coffee every morning after the 6am ski... I love the trivial pursuit cards that are on the table for guests to read while they wait. And they finally updated some! They used to be all circa 1981, asking "Who is the last person..." or "Who holds the record for..." --- hilariously outdated. Enjoy the lake, enjoy Frye's leap across the channel (only when someone's not guarding it), and enjoy this nice little spot. read more
