Never had a problem coming here. Been recycling here for over 10years. Very fast and efficient.

This place is awesome! The first time I came here the employees were so polite (still are), and extremely helpful. A couple of them even helped me with getting bins. Going as far to say I get larger ones for what I had. They ALWAYS have plenty of bins. When I'm at the counter waiting, they genuinely make polite conversation. I find that appealing as some other places don't always do this. This is the ONLY place I go for recycling. I have even referred them to friends. read more

This place is located on Winton Ave. The streets are usually busy and the parking lot is small. You really gotta be careful because when I went there and left my cart for less than a min., another customer took my bins and recyclables when I wasn't looking. There are things that look like cameras but when I asked the man in charge, he said they aren't working. The young lady at the register was really rude (hispanic). I tried talking to her when she said something to me and she walked away right after without even listening. When it was my turn, she said that she was listening to me, but she didn't hear a thing I said and she wouldn't listen at all and kept interrupting me when I tried explaining something to her. I was talking to the owner about something else in front of her and she started blurting out stuff and complaining about me when I wasn't even talking about her, but another situation that happened there (my recyclables were stolen). She was butting in the conversation when she should have been dealing with the other customers and made a whole scene. I haven't been here in years and having this happen to me is very upsetting and shows how unprofessional the staff are, especially with how they speak to the customers (referring to the lady at the register). read more

I've went here twice. The first time was an okay experience. The 2nd time was horrible. I tried to call there initially just to make sure that they were open but their phone line was busy from 9 AM to 3 PM. I eventually just went there and took my chances that they were open since it said they were open online. When I got there the guy at the gate was super unfriendly and told me to park in the back. I filled my cart with my bags of cans and once I brought it to the weigh station they told me I had to take the cans out of the bags. At other places they helped me remove my cans from the bags. there was no garbage cans to throw away my bags so I left them in one of the carts. I asked the guy at the front cash register if they answer the phones and he told me that they were probably busy at the time I was calling. During this whole time everybody was super unfriendly and super unhelpful. After I got paid for my cans I was leaving and one of the workers flagged me down to give me my opened bags where the cans were once in. I asked him if he could throw them away for me and he said there was no trashcan. They are one of the few places that still collects aluminum cans post Covid but I still do not recommend this place. Very dirty, unfriendly workers, and a bad pay rate which is $1.65 Per pound of aluminum. I will never go back to this place and I highly recommend nobody else does. There should be other places that have a better pay rate and friendlier and more helpful employees. read more

Fry's metal have to work with all sorts of people. Today I had to witness a couple who came in and thought that it was OK to not abide by the rules and to argue with the yard supervisor about the rules that Frys has. Absolutely uncalled for by those folks. Rules there are really simple but need to be reinforced all the time. The owner does not know what customer service is. An unmarked car tries to cut in line and naturally me and the cars behind me were furious that we were being cut but an unmarked car, after a series of car horns and flipping off the unmarked car, the guy comes out and asks, "Which one of you flipped me off!?" Obviously we were still ticked off, "I own this place!" He yelled. And he even threatened to decline service. We had no idea and assumed it was a leech taking advantage, that is no way to address customers, avoid this place! read more

So I called ahead to see if they would take my bakery display case and the employee on the said they would take it no problem.after I sat in the line for over 40 min and pulled in the so called manager that has no customer relations at all said he wouldn't take it.as it is his employees responsibility to honor what they say as I drove 10 miles to get rid of with only 25 miles on my tank.so now I won't have gas to even make it home with the added wait.when I asked for someone else to talk to such as owner I was told he was on vacation and told them I didn't care I was told that this would be taken. When I almost got hit in the parking lot tha manager gave me a thumbs up so I took his pic.then I was finally given the "owners" number which he explained a few things that made sense but then he said his brother the manager was answering the phone so I then said they should accommodate even if I had to bust the glass out as I was told no glass but at the end of the phone call basically when I'm all ready heated. read more

Wish I could give no stars. Last time I was there I know they shorted me but I figured, 'whatever, let me get out if this scummy place and go wash my hands'. This time however, really pissed me off. As I pulled into their (inadequate) parking lot this white haired, red faced dude comes screaming up to me - "didn't you see my truck trying to get in!?!" I said, "you mean the truck that was sitting parked with no blinker or reverse lights on? Nope." "That's MY TRUCK!!! Where'd you think he was going?" he raged. "Dunno. Down the street, nowhere? I'm not a mind reader." "But it's MY TRUCK!!!!" He was ready to bust an artery. "Maybe you should sell your cans elsewhere today!" "This is your business?" "Yea!!!!" "Oh. In that case, I will sell my cans elsewhere, every time." Turns out that this was the owner and the really unpleasant and unnecessary exchange was a good thing. I ended up going to Aaron's Metals (25101 Clawiter, Hayward) where they had lots of parking, nice ladies that empty your sticky bags for you and didn't rip me off. I left there with almost TWICE what I got last time at Fry's for a similarly sized load of cans. Going to go give Aaron's 5 stars now and hope the nasty rip off artist at Fry's goes out of business. read more

I used to come here alot always bringing they same amount of soda cans and plastic bottles. The amount I would get in return always hovered between $17.00 to $20.00 mark but not today. They do have several people who work the scales here, to this day haven't seen the same person twice. Which I don't have a problem with, what I do have a problem with is the way they process your goods, and the fact that there are many different receptacles of different weights shapes and sizes. Some have portions torn off some are large rolling bins. Know here is where it gets a little cloudy you place whatever you have within each respective container. You place one container on the scale; someone who works there immediately appears and stands by your booty we'll call him the snatcher/grabber. Now there is another person whom we'll call cashier/writer. The cashier/writer writes stuff down on this piece of paper many different figures but does not speak to you till your stuff is gone! To be fair there is a digital read out on the wall but unless you keep up with the current price per pound of plastics and metals and unless you know the weight differential of each of the many different sized receptacles then the read out serves you no purpose other than to give a the an air of authority. Now I do need to mention on one of my containers the snatcher/grabber called out for the cashier/writer to come over and look inside one of my receptacles, she says to her "you have to come over and look" which she did. I don't know what she saw maybe it was my lucky bowling ball I use to tip the scales, or maybe they saw me coming. Then went back over to the table writing and did more writing, never uttering a word about their being any problem, nothing. I knew I just have spoke up and said the famous "what's the matter"? Phrase, but I didn't... kicking myself. But you see I have this inherent problem I don't like being around funky sticky scummy areas for very long. That's about the time the cashier/writer blurts out! $13.00 sign here! To myself I thought how nice of them to round off my refund. But what was it they were looking at earlier before my stuff was totaled up. And why can't they tell you as your different items are being weighed how much you're getting just in case there is a dispute on what they say it is and what I know it is??? Instead the instant one container is weighed quicker than you can say please pass the Grey Poupon your stuff is gone like the wind.... Whatever the cashier/writer says it is "What It Is"! Say Wha... you can't get your stuff back and it's on it's way to the crushing machine! But I do have a solid idea it's coming to me now.....yesssss Instead sending your booty to the crusher right away.... What if they could wait a minute, till the cashier/writer totals up everything? Then tell you how much they going to give you, so if you agree then every thing is beautiful, but if you say not today way snatcher/grabber!! I can get a better deal from BillyJo up the street! But they won't do that maybe there is some code of ethics one center doesn't rat on the other sort of thing kind of makes you go hmm. Of course there many centers in the area and since I won't step foot back here anymore since me feets always get stuck to the ground not to mention I had to hose down the bottoms of my shoes to get all the grime off. If you ever come here I recommend wearing old shoes and bring some gloves as every thing is a bit on the grimy sticky side. read more

Went to the other two places in the area and everyone promises the best prices. What they dont tell you at the other places is that after they sort and pick ur junk apart you end up getting a lot less than you would have expected. Not at Frys, they varify weigh and pay! So when u go make sure to see the blond lady there, shes nice (even to the homeless peeps that show up) and most of all fair no BS like those other places. I got the best price around at Fry's (actual price) and was satisfied with what I got. I did hear that the owner used to cut hair so if you have long hair beware I think he's still obsessed with short perfectness, lol Anyhow I'd give them 5 stars if they would pave that yard, the dust and airborn stuff can be nasty for anyone to be in, including those working there. read more

I went to Fry's for the first time this past Saturday. I had read reviews and was expecting a very long wait, but to my surprise, I was in and out in literally 10 minutes. A worker met me as I drove in to direct me where to park. I parked and unloaded my cans and bottles in the bins provided and took my bins right up to the counter where I found no one in line. They weighed the bins and paid me promptly. It was amazingly fast. I did ask if my wait time was normal and they said that it was not. Normally there is a line of cars to get in to the place. I must have arrived at the perfect time. I loved that they had someone directing traffic and that they had a lot of bins available. Also nice that they have people filling their bins at their cars instead of in line. I think these actions make the process more efficient and helps in decreasing the amount of time in line. read more

today i had a horrible experience at this company, i was in line like always, and the owner came out and let someone else cut in front of us even though we got there before them! then the white owner decided to tell us we didn't have the right to pass. so then i asked why he let them pass because it was not correct, he explained to us that he was the owner with an aggressive attitude, and told us that we can not pass until he tells us to. so then i entered and he gave me the access to park but made us park where it was all muddy and dirty. then he told us he was not going to let us sell our cans. then we told him it was not right because he was discriminating us just because we are hispanic! then he proceeds to kick us out even though we did nothing wrong. he told us specifically not to unload and to get out of here. i do not recommend coming here! they also take your money !! they take a large percentage of your money and degrade you. this place needs to be shut down! read more

This business is the most disrespectful place ever they have no parking spots and the owner is a complete scum who is disrespectful he has no respect for woman.First of all tried to make me park so crammed in a spot that was so tight I couldn't fit without hitting another vehicle so I decided to blackout meanwhile my husband was gonna help me back out while he was getting recycle out the owner argued with him and tried to smash his hand and my trunk then told us we couldn't recycle there we had to go elsewhere he is a very unprofessional owner and I will never be going there again. read more

I came here to drop off bottles, cans and some plastics because they were the ONLY recycling center open in the area. I wasn't going to drive to Sacramento to recycle for $0.10 more per pound. The guy in the center asked me if my stuff was sorted. I told him I have all my cans in 1 bag, all glass in another and all plastics in a separate bag. He told me to go in and dump each bag into a bin to weigh out. Other people were there but were told to leave because they did not have all of their cans,bottles and plastics separated into separate bags. The man working said you have to come with your stuff separated already and that you couldn't separate it there. Obviously if everyone did this it would take forever for the line to move, but people insisted on sorting and separating their recyclables at the area when you weigh it. How stupid (and lazy) can you be to bring all of your recyclables mixed together. I saw people arguing with the employee and just shook my head. There are signs posted before you even enter the yard stating to have your shit sorted .Yes it may not be the highest prices compared to other centers but Iwhen they're the only place open and since i didn't want to stockpile recyclables at home until other places opened, i figured what difference does a few cents make. People complaining about shit that the workers are rude and their prices are low, well, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE OR WAIT TO GET PAID FOR YOUR SHIT OTHERWISE STOP COMPLAINING. I'll be coming back again. I don't see what the fuss is here since i was in and out with my cash. I don't know about workers being rude but this is a scrap yard not nordstroms people. I felt like king of the hobos when i came here yesterday to turn in my bags and bags of beer and soda cans for cash money.($57.25 in case your curious)I should install a meth vending machine or build a liquor store (or both) next door to this place, i'd make a million. My family and I have been coming here for about a year and we usually collect a months worth of recyclables before turning them in to Fry's metals. We would normally bring in about 4 bags of recyclables, today due to the holiday season we brought in a truck load of bags. I would say approximately 10 garbage bags full of cans, bottles, and glass. we were expecting a be cash return when in fact all we received was $84. thats right $84! only. we normally get about $95 with just four bags. When I asked why was it so low, the cashier stumbled with his words when another person had to answer for him saying that we had approximately 5 lbs of white plastic.... "I've counted 19 white plastic containers", this isn't correct, we only had about 5 bottles of white plastic. I couldn't ask to give back my recyclables because they were quick to process them in the machines before calculating the amounts. All I have to say is Fry's metals will not see my face or my families face again unless they come up with a much more efficient and less corrupt way of calculating people's recyclables. If your gonna come here, count your recyclables and ask the rate before processing then see if your numbers match theirs. I think I may just do that to prove a point. Cause I know for a fact that we didn't get a fair return back. I have been coming here way too long to think that I didn't get cheated. Fry metals...there is way too much competition out there to be treating your loyal customers this way. It's unfortunate for your establishment that I had to experience this. I really hope you folks treat your customers well really soon otherwise you may end up not having any customers. read more

Do not bring your recyclable materials here unless you are the type of person who enjoys being hustled in three card monte/cup & ball grifts. You could walk in with a two ton haul from an aluminum mine and a Guinness book of world records largest Arrowhead bottle and you'd still walk out with only $32.83. I dropped off 627 pounds of batteries aluminum and copper wound motors. I was paid $67.00. I was told they only pay $0.10 for all items. However; a different price was listed on the wall. I was in a hurry so I decided to let it go. After leaving I called a couple other places and guess what... They pay $5 or $6 or even $7 per car battery. I get a fraction of that. Decent experience. The staff I was not very friendly, however, they carried out they're tasks efficiently. I've read that the main cashier (the only blonde in the establishment) can be rude to customers. Luckily, I had no issues. Simply asked her how they calculate cost, and she went to work. The most obvious drawbacks to this location are it's cleanliness and accessibility. In order to enter the premises you have to make a sharp right turn off a moving highway into a small lot with extremely limited parking. It seems regular that cars would idle in-between the lot and street as a result of space, which can be dangerous since cars are moving directly behind you. If Fry's cleaned up and allocated proper parking slots, it would make a much more enjoyable experience and probably diminish the amount of rough-looking sellers. Going to take my cans elsewhere. read more

My mom has been asking me for weeks to take all her plastic water bottles and aluminum cans to the recycling center and I have just been too busy. She finally nagged long enough and picked up her 7 huge black bags of water bottles and cans... put them in my truck and drove down to Fry's. I got there right before they closed so they were somewhat busy. I was able to fit my truck in their parking lot and a worker came over to help me unload and sort. I thought that was very nice because the other recycling place I have been to does not help out customers. While waiting my turn another employer came up to us and asked me if he could give my son a candy and I agreed. My son was super excited of course! The balance came up to more than $100 so I had to move to the side while the nice attendant got a check issued for me. Apparently if it goes over $100 they cannot pay out in cash. I've come here for at least a year and never had a problem. Today I brought at least 12 bags full mixed with can plastic and glass, when I brought it up to be weighed the lady went off on me a out me glass and it has to be 80% to 20% and was a rude B***H about it! Sooo rude I couldn't even believe it. And I only got $35 for all I brought when I had the same amount last time and got almost $60!! Total crap! DO NOT GO THERE! This is the last time I ever will because the BLONDE older woman was DISRESPECTFUL AND RUDE she was literally going thru my broken glass picking out what I couldn't cash in! (Of all the times ive been here i e never been told i cant cash in anything i brought except milk jugs.) When I said well I won't come here again the man said "she's just doing her job," I replied "she doesn't need to be rude like that though, plus I've read about her on yelp." He responded "I told her she has bad reviews." If you know she has bad reviews and treats your customers like that why would you keep her?! I will not let myself be ripped off again either.
