Great coffee house in the heart of Great Barrington. Meeting up with a friend of long ago, it had an amazing g vibe, with decent seating, and live music. Just a Cappuccino with three shots of coffee today. It was a great concoction with great flavor. My only gripe is that I am not a fan of a Cappuccino in a paper cup, as we were sitting at a table to enjoy the coffee and conversation. Stopped in the other day and ordered lunch to go. They have a great menu with many vegetarian options. My husband and I both ordered the vegetarian chili. It was very good, the salsa served on it was a little spicy but the actual chili was not. I do think it's a little expensive for the size with no side for $15. It is topped with avocado, cheese, salsa and sour cream. ** It was supposed to come with tortilla chips but we didn't get any. We also ordered the tuna melt which we were told was good. It came with French fries which were cooked at all different temperatures-- some stale and too crunchy and the majority were undercooked, floppy and soft. They have a huge drink menu - I ordered an almond milk latte which was good. I would come back to try more menu items. The staff is very friendly. read more

This is a convenient option in downtown Great Barrington for a quick coffee or to sit for a while. It is fairly big inside with plenty of places to sit. The baked goods were fresh and better than I expected. There were also several options, from very nice cinnamon rolls to muffins to scones and a few types of croissants or other pastries. They also have some hot food, such as breakfast potatoes and sandwiches. Our group stopped by a few different times on a recent trip and always had a good experience. read more

Looked like a coffee shop, operated like a crisis center. Never again. Fuel Bistro was a mess. We waited an unreasonable amount of time for coffee while the entire cafe felt like it had no direction. People stood around with no idea where to go or whether their orders would ever appear. The staff looked exhausted and more focused on closing early than serving the customers already waiting. There were still more than ten orders unmade when they started shutting things down. Nothing about the experience felt organized or intentional. It just wasn't worth it. I won't return. read more

After we walked in and read the menu board, we walked over to the service counter where we were second in line, and waited our turn to order lunch from a young man at the service counter. When it was our turn, we stepped up to the counter and started to order, when an older guy (probably management) came over and whispered something in the young guy's ear. The young guy then said to us "sorry, the kitchen is closed". Now, let's take a deeper look at this incredulous and horrible customer service. First of all, we had waited on line to order, made our way to the front of the line, and were in the process of ordering when we were told the kitchen was closed. There was no one behind us. Doesn't it make sense from a customer service standpoint, that we should have been permitted to finish ordering? Why not shut down the kitchen after we ordered? Why not show us a modicum of courtesy? And how about the weasly way the manager didn't even have the common courtesy to inform us directly, and instead forced his young employee to deliver the news? Weasly indeed. Paid $16 for a vegetable chili, it was fine. Said it came with house made corn tortillas but they looked and tasted like any grocery store tortilla. Ordered chicken and waffles, menu stated "crispy fried chicken and house made waffles" but it looked and tasted like kids' frozen chicken tenders and frozen toaster waffles. It was pricey for the food amount and quality, and we also had to stand in line for awhile to order it, and bus our own tables. We wouldn't want to come back. read more

Came into fuel one morning with my dad and we had a lovely breakfast! He really enjoyed his breakfast sandwich and I liked the muffin I got a lot. They had a large menu with breakfast items and a huge selection of baked goods including scones, croissants, coffee cake, muffins, banana bread, and more. We both got tea which was delicious. This was a tremendous refuge for City Dwellers on a Fall foliage excursion. We kicked it off with high quality coffee, and then followed up with brioche breakfast sandwiches, and they were amazing! Great atmosphere on a Sunday with live music playing, and very friendly service in spite of the fact that I was wearing a NY Yankees hat! Great place to park for a while to read, work and chat. I love this place. I am from NYC but her staying in Berkshires/GB since June. I come to Fuel at least 5 times a week. The staff is so friendly, funny, and very helpful. I LOVE their expresso and drip coffees. The food is amazing from the pastries , breakfast sandwiches , to the lunch menu I have tried most of it all. As a New Yorker, we can be picky about our coffee shops and this hits the mark wish I could bring it back to my hood in NYC. The atmosphere is perfect size, comfortable , and perfect for a meet up or to get some work done. I will be solid customer whenever I am here in GB. read more

At least not in an obvious spot. The café was relatively empty and we were at the counter audibly discussing what we were going to order as the waitress waited to take our order. We got to the counter, ordered a sandwich (a caprese). The cashier informed us that the kitchen closed in five minutes (it was 2:20PM, kitchen apparently closed at 2:25PM). Went back here this past weekend and got one of the premade breakfast burritos (veggie). It was tasty and a good deal (~8) for a high protein breakfast. The line on Sunday morning was long though and it took 25 minutes (!) to get to the front - many people left the store upon seeing how long it could take. I am glad they are doing good business, but there really has to be a more efficient system. There was one person taking food orders/checking people out for the entire line, causing a major backup, and the checkout person was not the most efficiency-minded, chatting with customers as maybe 20 waited people behind in line. I really appreciate how you can grab & go with hot foods and pastries but there's also food to order. Good experience here on a busy fall weekend. Order at the counter and find a seat but there was plenty of seating that was well spaced from each table. Food and drink is definitely on the pricey side but the breakfast/brunch portions and the coffee sizes are reasonable. A friend got the mocha cold brew that was rather sweet, and I got only one pump of pumpkin syrup in a latte that was also sweeter than I would have liked. I got an omelette (egg white only that I wasn't charged extra for - win!) with veggies that was tasty. The homefries were a real standout here - well seasoned and well cooked. Always wanted to try this place out. So I stopped in today to give it a try. First and foremost place is absolutely spotless. 5 stars for that. I ordered a cold brew which was delicious , their soup of the day Tomato Basil and the Chicken and Waffles. The girl who took my order and served me was excellent the food on the other hand was sub par. First i was perplexed as to why i was not served the soup first instead of together with the chicken and waffles. Waffles were mush and luke warm at best, the soup was horrible there was no basil leaves and it looked and tasted like it was a heated up jar of Prego or pizza sauce,inedible had 2-3 spoons and could proceed. Firstly I asked the "barista" for a mocha or cafe mocha which they didn't seem to know what it was, yet there was an iced mocha beverage on their menu. The two staff seemed to discuss what it was and I believe what was made was a straight latte with chocolate sauce added to the top froth. Once I was able to taste it 10+ minutes later due to it being scalding hot (which I don't know why some coffee shops feel the need to make things to the highest heat point to serve) it tasted like just a latte, stirred it up and still no chocolate flavor so the splat of chocolate I saw put on the froth was the only chocolate added. That and I ordered an apple cider donut - $2.25 for a donut that was maybe 2" in diameter. It was decent but $2.25 for that?? Nope, won't return to this spot again. This is a very nice coffee spot with a fairly expansive breakfast/lunch menu--lighter fare than a "restaurant " but very good quality. And outstanding baked goods. New owner/management has improved offerings & atmosphere substantially over previous administration. Very pleasant place to stop for 10 minutes or an hour. Tables on sidewalk in front can be a wonderful place to watch the world go by when the weather is right. New owners seem committed to the community. And the coffee is excellent.... read more
