Medium hummus was huge and fresh and came with 2 pieces of pita bread - it probably could have been shared among 4 people. Beef and chicken shawarma were disappointing - meat was dry and salty. The toppings and garlic sauce, which helped counteract the dryness and saltiness, were sparse. Battata harra was delicious and easily my favorite part of the meal. Grape leaves were ok. Service was good. The worker was nice and talked me through different options when I was being indecisive with my order. Meal was $28 before tip. I came here for lunch this past Friday and I had a great experience here! Fufu's is located in the Riverside Food Lab next to Brick & Birch. I came in around 11:30am when they just opened and I ordered a beef shawarma bowl. The person assisting me at the counter was friendly and courteous as I pondered what I wanted to get. You can customize your bowl with various toppings and sauces. I chose to get tomatoes, grilled onions, & parsley and garlic sauce with my bowl! My bowl came out quite quickly in about 5 minutes since I was their first customer of the day. The portion size was decent for the price I paid and they did put a lot of meat into the bowl. It was quite flavorful overall and the beef shawarma was tasty and not dry at all. All the toppings meshed well together with the beef and rice. It was a pleasant lunch and I look forward to coming backs soon for more delicious meals! Amazing food the beef is always so juicy and tender. The chicken has very good flavor but at times not all the time I think at least twice out of the times that I've gone it has been a bit dry. I ordered a chicken kabob plate with hummus and potatoes. As I waited for my order, there were a few patrons who came to the pick up counter because their order was incorrect or they were missing items like sauce or pita bread. That caused some concern, so I made sure to check my order before leaving the counter. (Mine was correct!) We sat at a table on the outside patio. Despite the heat, it was comfortable in the shade with the water misters flowing. Out of all the food in my order, the potatoes stand out the most. They were seasoned well, and had just the right amount of crunch on the outside. Highly recommend this side dish. The chicken was moist but not the most flavorful by itself. It definitely needed the garlic sauce! The hummus wasn't bad; it was just ok. I'm accustomed to hummus with stronger flavor. Would I return to Fufu's? Probably. I wish there was a little more rice but it was a surprisingly large amount of hummus. The pita bread also came as one large flat round (not sliced or cut which was ok). Built next door to the FOX Performing Arts Center, the spacious Food Lab makes the most of some prime real estate. The uber industrial space is accented by polished concrete floors, high ceilings with exposed ductwork, and dim mood lighting to emphasize each stall's own neon sign. Both indoor and outdoor seating options are available. A friend and I visited the Food Lab this past week and decided to share items from several restaurants, including Fufu's Grill. The wide stall features granite tile walls and the crimson neon sign but is otherwise left unadorned. The menu features a lengthy assortment of Lebanese-inspired American fare. We opted for the Beef Shawarma Fries. Made-to-order, our order took longer than any other restaurant (maybe ~15 minutes after ordering), but the staff member grinned while handing us a heavy styrofoam container. The fries themselves maintained a perfect balance of crisp exterior and soft interior. The fries were topped with rich garlic mayo (reminiscent of my absolute favorite Halal deli in Philly), melty mozzarella, and a generous helping of tender meat. We enjoyed our plate so much that we ordered the same fried for takeout for my friend's sister. Despite being the most expensive dish (bordering on $20 after tax and tip) out of our Food Lab options, Fufu's was by far our favorite sampling. Be aware: the workers do not wear masks. + Kafta was delicious! Very flavorful, but hard to take off the skewer unless you bite it. The beef are really big pieces. Very juicy, but difficult to eat since they are cut into such big cubes. + The rice is very clumpy and a bit too wet for my liking, but not bad. The Ba Ba Ganoush is similar to hummus, but much more tangy! Almost a vinegar-like taste from the eggplant. Fufu's has been serving excellent Lebanese dishes in Riverside, from their location in Mission Grove and in to the Riverside Food Lab! I was able to check out Fufu's Middle Eastern Grill's second location on opening day, Sept. 1, 2018! Yes, I know this review is overdue but I've had their food enough times to say each visit was a wonderful experience. The prices are great and the people who work there are friendly! The entrees are plentiful and perfect for sharing. Some of the items I enjoy here are their Mixed Plate (Kafta, Beef & Chicken). The meat is always tender and juicy. I love garlic sauce but this one, even the vegan one tasted too much like mayo...I have a strong disliking to mayo, sorry but it wasn't good at all.
