Finally tried this place out! Can't believe this is the only one in the area. We came on a Wednesday afternoon around 3:30pm and it was dead inside. Typically we see this place is packed during the school year. I'm glad it wasn't busy because service was quick. The service was great. After everything we ordered we had a coupon for a few extras like a free drink & fries. The bbq sauce that we got with the fries was super good to dip in. I haven't had a gyro is YEARS! The beef was the way to go! My husband got the plate and he agreed. The cheesecake was a hit as well. If you are interested in getting a drink, I would suggest one of mango citrus refresher. Craving a little bit of New York, Tim and I drove down to Riverside to try Halal Guys. I really wanted to love it. It was... just okay. The meats weren't as hot as I would've liked. Everything is pre-cooked and sitting in warming trays, then assembled. By the time they added the super cold salad, dressing, and sauces, it brought the temp down even more. I will say though...the white sauce and hot sauce were on point. Flavor was there. It just wasn't the same as standing in New York eating it straight off a truck. It had full potential. My family and I went inside The Halal Guys restaurant today to eat, and we had a great experience. The food was really good, fresh, and we didn't have to wait long at all. Salem took our order and provided great customer service. Tahjah prepared our food, and everything came out hot and delicious. The manager also made us feel welcomed when we walked in. This was my first time trying Halal Guys and wow: they were actually really good! The beef was so tender, soft, and incredibly flavorful. You could tell it was cooked perfectly. I'm not sure exactly what kind of rice they use, but it tasted like saffron rice,,,super fragrant and really yummy. The vegetables were fresh and crisp, which balanced everything so well. I got the chicken and beef combo with white sauce on top, and the sauce was amazing kind of like ranch, creamy and flavorful without overpowering the meat. The ambience was nice and clean, but honestly what really stood out was the customer service. 10/10, no question. Since it was my first time, the employee went above and beyond;) letting me try every single type of meat, joking around, and making my friends and me laugh. He kept the energy light and fun while still being super helpful. You could tell he genuinely enjoyed interacting with customers, which made the whole experience that much better. I would give this place a 3 because the meat is pretty good as well as the sauces, but 20+ dollars for double meat? I ordered double meat and they skimmed so much on the meat and gave me like no protein I even asked for more and they said they couldn't give more which is why I'm ranking this place as a 3, would rank lower but the price, location, as well as the amount of sauces and sides they give you is pretty reasonable. Ate here a few days ago, I had ordered a family tray of beef and chicken wings with a extra order of a falafel meal . Everything was so delicious, I loved the service as well. The workers were very helpful & curious. An employee noticed that me and my guests were struggling to scoop our food items from the trey and brought us some utensils. Every time I have come here, most of the employees are dumb, and do not listen or care to what you do NOT want in your bowl. Or they'll add it and be like oops, have to charge you $8 for a mf scoop of hummus, and upsell you. No thank you. Please listen. Lack of critical thinking skills and comprehension. I've tried to give this place a few chances just thinking that they had bad employees that day or gave them the benefit of the doubt, but yikes. I want to make it clear that this has nothing to do with the employees in this Halal guy's location. The food was absolutely disgusting, the chicken was wet and not even shawarma style. You have to pay extra just to have hummus in your platter, which should be a standard considering that this is a Mediterranean restaurant. I have never walked into a restaurant and had oily Gyro meat served to me on a platter. I take full responsibility for seeing that being put in my platter and continuing to check out. I felt bad because he already had worked on my platter and did not want to reject it because it would be disrespectful. Great food, generous portions, friendly and efficient customer service, coupled with a nice clean dining area.., everything was seamless and on point. We opted for the Chicken Platter with all the fixings and it was DELISH! The food was flavorful, not greasy, and tasted fresh and clean... we are super happy and will definitely be back soon!! I didn't realize HG opened up a spot in RivCo (interesting that the IE managed to score this biz and its neighbor before the SD market) until I had a platter craving and yelped that this is the closest place than my occasional drive to East LA). Given that it's at the edge of University Village facing the main road, I'm sure they get a lot of foot traffic from campus clientele. If driving, the gated lot offers an hour or two of free parking during the day for customers. I pre-ordered my beef gyro platter for pickup so it was ready when I arrived. There's a very slight variation in product among SoCal locations (I've accepted it'll always be different from enjoying it from the Halal carts in NYC), but in this particular plate the meat wasn't as tender as I've known it to be--that could be due to being recently opened and still getting bearings in the kitchen. Sauces (white and red) are in packets so that'll always be consistent; it's just a matter of how much to top food with. 3.5 for now, but may change when I drive up again. read more
