TLDR: My favorite hole-in-the-wall Pakistani place in SoCal with the best garlic naan. They are also extremely accommodating with closing hours. I've been coming here since at least 2022 and still make the hours-long drive because it really is that good. This time, we arrived at 8:30pm due to traffic and it closed at 9pm. An employee saw us pull up and waved us in even though the kitchen had just closed. As long as we were out by 9:30pm, they were willing to take us. All dishes are made to order so it does take a minute (~30min) but they use traditional methods so it is worth the wait! It was $84 including tip for two people. We ordered beef nihari, lamb biryani, two garlic naan, and two mango lassi. There was enough for leftovers and we were stuffed full! The person taking our order asked if we wanted medium or regular and I recommend starting with medium. Their mango lassi is handmade and not-too-sweet which makes it perfect for slurping down with spicy food. The naan is baked in a traditional clay pot and you can taste the fresh garlic. Each time, they have cooked consistently and no dish has disappointed. Unfortunately I have never seen more than a few people inside at once, so I would love for people to give them some love by showing up! The family who owns and operates it is so nice and offer great service. You literally feel like family. Everything I've had here is absolutely stellar. Some of my favorites are the samosa appetizer, the chana masala, the chicken boti, and the beef kabob. And the garlic naan is the best I've ever had - so perfectly cooked and delicious. Absolute Peak Pakistani food. Everything is packed with flavor, the portions are generous, and you can tell it's made fresh. My favorites are the Paneer Saag, the Chicken Tikka Masala, and the Chicken Boti with the cucumber yogurt sauce. They're all absolutely delicious. Service-wise, the wait time was a bit longer than expected. Our food took about 30 minutes to come out, and it felt even longer considering it wasn't a busy weekend. The curry dishes have a lighter color and a different flavor compared to typical Indian cuisine. You can tell it's a Pakistani style. I enjoyed trying something different, although I personally still prefer the richer, more familiar Indian flavors. The samosas were very good, and the green sauce, I believe it's called hari, was especially delicious and added a nice kick. The mango lassi drink was a surprise highlight. I'm usually not a big fan of mango lassi, but this one was super delicious. Honestly felt like a hidden gem on the menu. ***One thing to note, check your receipt before paying. This resto is in the same block as LA Fitness. I've always passed Al-Karam Pakistani Cuisine. I've always wondered if it is the same as Indian Cuisine since these countries are so close together. WELL - lo and behold, through the recommendations of friends (they said ("duh, it's pretty much like Indian food - curry, dal, roti etc.) I decided to get food there. So, if you've taken a dip at eating Indian food, YOU WILL LOVE this place. They serve Samosas, kabobs, tandoori chicken, beef kabobs, chicken tikka masala, beef palak, shawarmas. BUT THE BOMB IS....their signature dish - Nihari, which is a very tender center cut beef cooked in their own homemade cream, sauteed with onions and spices. I mixed the beef with their basmati rice - HEAVEN. It's beef curry but it's not. It was not overly spicy. The beef was soooo tender. The sauce was had a garam masala /curry taste but they had a spice there which made the taste unique. I wanted to order the Dal Gosht - lamb with lentils mixed with their authentic spices -next time. I decided to be adventurous and ordered the Bhangan Bharta which is eggplant baked over slow flame and seasoned with their spices. It had a creamy smoky texture & fabulous with their nan. I was driving back from a work trip when the words "Pakistani cuisine" instantly caught my eye (especially as a long-time fan of Pakistani food and South Asian cuisine in general), I had to stop. When I walked in, the place had a classy lunch/dinner feel to it, with part of the kitchen visible. I loved seeing the kebabs being grilled over an open flame. Additionally, coming from a Middle Eastern background, all the beautiful Arabic calligraphy art made me feel at home. I asked the friendly host what he recommended, and he pointed me to the #1 lunch special: Chicken karahi, fresh naan, basmati rice, and two kebabs. The kebabs were exactly how good Pakistani kebabs should be: juicy, flavorful, tender, and with that little bit of elasticity that tells you they're not dry. The chicken karahi had a solid level of spice and paired perfectly with the green yogurt chutney. The whole lunch special came out to about $22, and honestly it was worth it, way more satisfying than the fast food I've been relying on this week. Overall, great experience. I got their #2 lunch special (lamb and chicken) and a mango lassi to drink. The meat was tender and juicy, the sauce was spicy and delicious. It paired well with the rice and garlic naan. They have a good amount of seating indoors and fairly spaced out so you don't feel crammed and like you're sitting on top of other guests.
