Fuji Grill on Maple Rd is one of my favorite restaurants. I've been coming here for over a decade now. It's in the same plaza as dessert deli so that's always a good visit after sushi dinner. While I don't think they have the best sushi in town- I think they are very consistent with their product. Whether it's their sushi, hibachi, udon or other, I think it's pretty good. I actually think their fried rice is the best in town. Their shumai is very good and larger in comparison to other restaurants I've ordered it. Their lunch menu has great deals comparable to other restaurants in town. It's the little things that make this restaurant what it is. Because my significant other and I frequent this location a lot, we have gotten free edamame or free sake over the years. It's nice that they remember us and that the main staff members have been here for years. I love the way they treat us as customers and the service is on point. The best part: their fried rice, shumai, miso soup and service really make this location stand out compared to other Japanese restaurants in the area. read more

The Fuji grill was delicious! Next time, I will remember to order fewer things because their roles are absolutely huge. You definitely get what you pay for. I really enjoyed the vegetable tempura as I'm finding it harder and harder to get at local sushi restaurants. My favorite role was the pink lady which is wrapped in soy paper and involves raw fish and cream cheese with avocado. The service was very quick and the rolls were beautifully presented. read more

I always love Fuji Grill and I have been going here for 8 years. The sushi is reliably delicious and fresh. The staff tend to be quiet but nice and attentive. You can't beat their lunch deals, and it's nice that they have hot options so I can easily go here with non sushi lovers. They can get busy around dinner and weekends, but they set you up nice if you order take out. You can also make a reservation. Definite try them if you haven't yet! read more

Ordere two hibachi steak meals off DoorDash and I only received one. I called the place and the woman on the phone was rude and called me a liar. I explained I only received one meal and she kept saying I was a liar and that the driver must've eaten it. I explained that it was OK that it was a mistake but she wouldn't even accept it. I wasn't even asking for a refund or replacement I just wanted them to know and she was started yelling at me because she swore I was lying. Terrible experience. That woman should be fired. I really liked this place! Disclaimer. Hubby and daughter ate in for lunch. They brought me take out. What can I say other than it was exceptional. I had the lunch special/bento box of veggie tempura. Side order of gyoza. OOOH!!! Delightful! I am so surprised that the tempura included eggplant. I've never seen aubergine offered up. Update review to my original review in 2016. Fuji Grill is not the same place as it was years ago. The chefs skip corners on the way to Japanese food should be made for instance the tonkasu in japan, it's not like that at all. Before covid the recipes were right from Japan, but now Corners being cut everywhere. It's also hit or miss with the sushi. It's far from the worst, but it's not the best anymore. I came here with one of my sons because we were in the area. It's not as big as the one in Niagara Falls or even the one on transit, and doesn't have hibachi, but it gets the job done if you're just after sushi. I had the Philly roll with avocado instead of cucumber. I also tried scallop sushi for the first time. It was topped with topiko (another first!) which was a pleasant surprise and added some nice color and a hint of additional texture. My son had the honey chicken. It was very tasty. Service started out great, but dwindled toward the end of the meal when I was ready for a to-go box and the check. Nice place, but I think the nearby Transit location is a little better, and the only option if it's hibachi you want. read more

A decent option for sushi and udon noodles in Amherst. Fuji has nice table service and a clean environment. There are comfortable booths and a large menu full of a ton of different rolls. Everything from lobster rolls to the "Out of Control" roll with a smorgasboard of options thrown in together. I opted for the Udon Noodles, stir fried with seafood and a rainbow roll. The rainbow roll was fine. The rice was tasty, but my one complaint about the roll is the imitation crab meat in some of it. It degrades the experience; to have delicious and fresh fish and the imitation crab meat?! Eeech. The Udon noodles were pretty good, but quite simple in flavor. I asked for a little bit of spice and they obliged with a tiny kick, but I personally prefer richer flavors with more ginger, etc in the those particular stir fries. While the noodles were fine, they could have been a bit firmer as well. Despite these complaints, I'm still a fan and happy to go to Fuji Grill for sushi and noodles whenever the opportunity presents itself. I just think there are better options, but Fuji Grill is a fine option if you're looking for fresh fish. read more

I came here with someone who was greeted by name. So I believe we got outstanding service. My first visit was some time ago and I found the food that day quite good. This was my second time and the food was again quite good. We had a beef wrap app that we shared. Six large pieces, this could easily be a meal on its own. I had the daily special from the front board. I needed a substitution which was made without issue. Prices are reasonable for a mid level lunch place. This is not McDonalds or even Chipotle. It's also not Olivers. It's right in the middle. And just right. Easy parking in lot out front. read more

Food is always well prepared and delicious. Service is always excellent and staff is friendly. The hibachi chicken is tender and the sauce is sweet but not over powering. The teriyaki shrimp is amazing and the dinner serving is absolutely generous. The accompanying vegetables are cooked perfectly in both meals. Sushi is made on the spot and the freshness jumps right out at you. The prices are modest based on the high quality of the food as well as the generous portions. Tip: Go for lunch special! Great deal! I went to school in Buffalo and one of the things I miss most is Fuji Grill. I live in NYC and still have not had sushi as good as Fuji's. My friends and I scour the city trying to find its equal and we just can't. The spicy tuna roll is so perfect (one of the only places I like this roll at)- it's not mushy or mayoey (is that a word?) like it is at so many other places. I got take out sushi from here. I know it's not the same as eating there, but the sushi was tasty! I got the Hawaiian Aloha roll, it had shrimp tempura, mango & avocado. It was a really tasty refreshing roll. The sweet potato roll I also got hit the spot! Getting take out I wasn't sure how everything would have been packaged. Fuji grill is a wonderful mid-tier restaurant when it comes to sushi. By "mid-tier" I mean it's better than super market sushi but not as good as other Buffalo establishments such as Kunis or Sea Bar. I love Fuji because it is very close to my house in the Williamsville area and is always reliable. They get you in and out but at the same time do not rush you. The meal started with an order of edamame that was not overly salty and quite delicious in my opinion. As much as I love rolls I tend to go for sashimi as much as possible. The sashimi deluxe entree at Fuji is always fresh and never disappoints. They always provide a great presentation that includes tuna, white tuna, salmon, yellowtail, mackerel, and amberjack. That night I also ordered two special rolls that were also quite delicious. Amazon roll. Lightly fried filled with grilled steak, smoked salmon, Japanese mint leaf, & avocado. Topped with spicy lobster salad and BBQ sauce. I'm not one to usually order rolls that are cooked as I believe that are too Americanized. I must say that this roll was very tasty and not overwhelming. White Tuna delight. This roll had white tuna on the inside along with avocado and spicy crab salad on the outside and top. This roll was a little overwhelming in my opinion when it came to how rich it tasted. None the less it was tasty. I've only been to Fuji Grill for to-go but it's on my to-do list for a sit down. Fuji Grill has an unbelievable lunch deal called "a box". Price varies but it's a great deal for the amount of food you get with it. I've had a few variations and have loved each one. I've never had to wait longer than 10mins to get it either and for a fully boxed lunch complete with an entree, salad, and sushi you can't beat it. On the go? Stop and grab a quality meal. read more

Transit Rd. location: NEVER have I had worse, rude treatment from a host/manager or whatever he calls himself. In fairness, the food was good, but the service was the worst I have ever encountered in my life. I can't believe anyone would ever go back again. We were refused seating because the elderly couple with us didn't make it through the door at the same time we did. We were on time, the seats were vacant, we had reservations, but we were still refused seating. When the elderly couple did get through the door, they were made to stand (one with a walker, the other leaning on a cane), in the crowded space in front of the desk, impeding customers and wait staff while the 'host' finally directed a waitress to show us to our seats, WHICH HAD BEEN VACANT SINCE WE WALKED IN THE DOOR!! No part of this dreadful scene made one iota of sense. We were given no other reason than "we don't seat anyone until everyone is through the door". I guess they're too idiotic to realize that younger members of a party may try to make it easier on the older members by being able to help them to their waiting seats. If you're into pain and aggravation, this is the place for you! If, on the other hand, you would expect a tiny measure of common courtesy or common sense, don't even dream of getting anything of the kind here. The was first time ever in my life that I felt I so insulted that I didn't leave a tip. I can't for the life of me figure out how they can be so rude and insulting and still be so busy (the place was, indeed, quite busy). I guess customers have just gotten used to being treated as if they are being privileged to be allowed to eat at their precious little palace. NEVER AGAIN!!!! I was happy to find a sushi place i used to frequent back in my days of undergrad was still kicking. And not only kicking but they seem to have added sum updates and twists to the menu that sound and taste great! We ordered a salmon gyoza app that was really really good and then got the spicy maki combo. We upgraded one of the rolls in the combo to a white tuna spicy roll instead of crabstick for an extra $1.50. Everything was delicious. Not sure what is happening in general to asian food in WNY? I have been a customer here since they opened. We ordered take out, sushi rolls and veg tempura, four simple ones and that, almost $60! Plus the items we're made sloppy, no taste and half the size of normal rolls. The veg tempura consisted of two pieces of sweet potato, and one onion. I just went to Fuji Grill for the first time on a Friday night with my boyfriend, and since it was late we were a bit skeptical about the wait, food and service; boy were we wrong! As far as sushi in Buffalo I am always left wanting more, but not with Fuji Grill. I am really surprised it took me this long to actually go here, but will definitely make the trip again soon! We were seated promptly and even though the place was pretty busy, the ambiance was nice for a Friday evening. The menu is extensive, but the combos of sushi, sashimi and rolls are a great idea when splitting a number of things or even for bigger parties in my opinion. Everything sounded appetizing! We had miso soup, sayuri (a cold unfiltered sake) and a combo platter of sushi, sashimi and rock n roll plus this peppered tuna roll called the Crazy Tuna Roll and boy was it good! The sake was smooth, the soup was to be delicious as expected in every way, the sushi was unexpectedly fresh and tasty for it being so late (they were closing in an hour). Let me also comment on their wasabi! Wow. I haven't had good wasabi like that in awhile; it will clear your nostrils! Mmmmm! No dessert, but we were stuffed and the prices were pretty reasonable. I'm giving them 4 stars only because I know I've had better sushi, but this is hard to find in Buffalo, plus they started to clean up the restaurant towards the end of the night and we could smell cleaner while eating (not fun). Yeah, we enjoyed it here! We like our sushi but are not folks who need fancy, minimalist rolls that cost $20 and involve a several-course meal. Sure, I'd love to try that in Japan some day, but for now we're just some average simpletons who enjoy American-style sushi for people who like to eat it by the mini boat-load. And Fuji delivers! There are so very many choices of rolls--dozens and dozens. We were happy with all the rolls we got. The price seemed slightly more expensive at first but when they arrived we saw that each came with 8 rolls rather than the usual 6 so it all evened out. The atmosphere inside is cozy--again, nothing shi-shi, but cozy. All the waiters were friendly and the food came quickly. We enjoyed it all and will be back for sure. read more

As a cooked food sushi goer, the spicy crab roll was very good. It was a moderately filling portion size with rather thick rolls. The crunchy addition to the roll, was in my opinion, unnecessary. Although it cut down on the intensity and spicy flavor I feel as if it can be omitted. I intend for spice when ordering this specific one. The green tea with the meal. It might of been our experience but we've had better sushi before in regards to the raw sushi. The stuff that should have been cold was warm and didn't sit well overall. Plan was to meet here with friends and catch up over sushi rolls. Started looking at the menu, and my mouth was starting to water. I love, love love the sushi. Wegmans has some decent offerings no doubt, however the REAL good stuff is at restaurants like Fuji. We started looking at the 'special' rolls, and knew what was going to happen next. All three of us, ended up ordering these special rolls. What kind of upset me, was there were no prices listed next to these. I know that the fish market prices change daily, but still. However from a marketing stand-point the no prices, made it easily to listen to my stomach, and not my wallet! They started us off with some miso soup, god how I love this salty delight! When the massive plates came out, we were thoroughly impressed! They were truly works of art, that I almost didn't want to eat them... ok, maybe not. WHOA, is all I can say. We all tried each other's and were amazed how they were all different yet all delectable! They ended up not being terribly priced between 12-16 each. Fuji Grill is a good, if not unspectacular, sushi option. We came for lunch and ordered a 3-maki roll combo (Spicy Tuna, Spicy Salmon, and Salmon & Avocado) and a 2-maki roll combo (Spicy White Tuna and Eel & Avocado). Of the 5 rolls, the Spicy White Tuna (which was not on the menu) and Spicy Salmon were the best. The rolls were nicely stuffed with fish, and the freshness was perfectly adequate, but definitely not the best I've had in Buffalo. Naturally, this meant that the weakest roll was the Salmon & Avocado, which didn't have spicy mayo or eel sauce to assist. We also ordered the Dinosaur Egg appetizer. It looked really impressive and tasted pretty good. However, it was very difficult to eat. In retrospect, maybe we should have requested forks because chopsticks were unusable and it was really messy to handle. Overall it was a very solid meal. Fuji Grill (maple) is my fav little getaway with my sisyer. I prob come here about twice a month. The shumai serving sizes are pretty big, prob the biggest I have ever had. I've probably been to Fuji Grill a dozen times over the past 10 years, and I've never had a disappointing meal here. Very little has changed in the past decade, and the atmosphere has always been rather casual and relaxing. Their sushi is some of the best in the area and you can never go wrong with any of their special rolls. They always put a ton of effort in the presentation of their dishes, and I get a kick out of other patrons and first-timers that see their meals delivered for the first time. Though I tend to go for sushi more often than not here, their entrees are also very good and filling. Most recently, I had the stir friend udon with beef, and it was a very delicious meal. There is no lunch menu on Sundays which is a bit disappointing - I highly recommend their bento box if you ever do come in for lunch. Prices have gone up quite a bit over the past few years but they're not outrageous, and for the quality of food they are more than fair. My biggest complaint is the service. While not bad, more often than not I tend to get a waiter or waitress that seems to view my dining party as a nuisance rather than paying customers. They never do anything wrong, and are always quick to help, but rarely do so with a smile on their face. It can be a bit disconcerting if you're used to more friendly staff. read more
