Cuisine: 7 Service: 7…read moreDecor: 6 Value: 7 Overall: 7 My friend introduced me to this restaurant knowing my fondness for good quality Japanese food. I have been here twice, sitting at the sushi bar, and being served omakase by Chef Kuduz. Interesting enough, he use to work in NYC at some popular sushi spots I am very familiar with before opening his own place here in Spartanburg. Chef knows his stuff, but rarely gets the opportunity to show his best because most customers come in asking for fried rice, noodles, or sushi rolls. He was excited to give me his freshest and creative offerings since I said just bring on the best you got. One of the items he brought out was a humongous live scallop that he dispatched on the spot. Check out my photo of the scallop versus a quarter, and you'll see what I mean. Wow! Huge! With that said, I do wish the sauce he used was gentler and allowed the scallop's own sweetness shine more. Another cool item he fed us was the Egg on Egg on Egg. Basically uni and various fish eggs. Most of his sashimi and nigiri were good quality. Sushi rice could use some work, but I'm satisfied to find decent Japanese cuisine in South Carolina. Chef Kuduz is quite welcoming and friendly, willing to share his stories and explains each course diligently. Server was also quick to change out our plates and add to our tea cups. This is a good Japanese restaurant for the area. Hidden in a nearly empty parking lot, come find them.

Granted, the restaurant was busy, however we expected our table to be ready around 7:30. This was our first time here, so we did not know how they ran the establishment. We got the all you can eat menu, but no one explained how anything worked/addressed our table until 10-15 minutes later. Everyone gets their own AYCE paper menu, however be sure to coordinate with your party on how many menu items are being ordered. We had to pay an extra fee for taking home our leftovers, but I do think the server could have confirmed with our table first before putting in all of our paper orders and letting us have an abundance of food. I believe there is a better system for AYCE than this. Service was a 0/10. In regard to the food, sushi was mid at best. The raw salmon was mushy, hibachi steak was mushy, and overall just mushy. For the price that we paid, we expected more premium food than this. Honestly, the only good and memorable food were surprisingly the french fries and yellow tail jalapeño appetizer Food was 1/10, presentation was 5/10. There is 100% better sushi than this within 30 minutes away. You're better off buying from the grocery store. I DONT recommend getting the mackerel either. For a Japanese cuisine restaurant, we could tell this was not authentic. We were there from 7:30 up until closing, in which they deliberately were trying to rush us out by turning off the lights and not even giving my brother a birthday celebration. They just hurriedly handed him a plain bowl of vanilla ice cream and explained how they "usually put a chocolate drizzle and whipped cream on it." I had to start singing happy birthday myself for the whole restaurant to join along. Then the server unashamedly came back to sing with us as if she was there the whole time... All in all, I DO NOT recommend coming here for AYCE sushi and I don't think you guys know what a bad day really is. I don't even want to look at sushi ever again.
