I am a Fuji lover, but several people I know have raved about Japan House so decided to try tonight. I was very disappointed. Definitely the driest sushi ever. Just moved to Spartanburg and decided to try some takeout sushi. Japan house has really good prices so we decided to check them out. Two shrimp tempura rolls and a Cali roll. The shrimp tempura literally was tempura wrapped in rice. The rice seemed really dry - I didn't taste the rice vinegar or sugar. The Cali roll was okay, but the rice still took over the sushi. There were options to add on items, but the menu stated what came on the sushi roll. It appears that to have cream cheese or anything added it will cost between 50 cents to a dollar per condiment. read more

I would at this point give them a zero. The food isn't bad if you can actually get the right food. I ordered on Doordash and I got the wrong food. Luckily for door dash, I got a refund for the terrible mistake. So, I thought I learned a lesson, so I called in an order. My husband picked up order, brought it home (25 minutes away on his way home) and got here and the whole order was wrong. Not one item. All of it. I ordered steak and jumbo shrimp hibachi and 2 orders of gyoza. Instead I got a steak bowl and the nasty looking spider roll ever and artificial crab with cream cheese roll. If I wanted sushi I would not order it from a "gas station" quality sushi place. I wouldn't be so upset but I called to see if they could credit my order and the girl said no. You have to drive it back. They know I got the wrong order because my order is there and yet they want me to drive 25 minutes there and 25 minutes back to get the right order. I didn't make the mistake. Well, I guess I did because I ordered from there and my husband did not know to check their integrity. I asked if I could talk to a manager or owner or boss and they said no, no one was there. Refused to correct my order. Refused to credit my order. Refused to do anything. I'm out 35$ with no edible food and they did nothing. I asked for someone to call me but I doubt they will. It's sad when someone cannot admit to making a mistake and actually fixing the mistake. The people that work there must hate their lives and hate working around other people. Awful customer service. Awful ability to just read the right order off a ticket. Inability to help a customer. No management available to help when needed. Avoid this place like a plague if you actually want what you order. And seriously scariest sushi I've ever seen. See pictures. read more

This is in between fast food and table service dining. You order at the counter and they bring it to you. Service is not as fast as you get with Fuji, but food is definitely cooked to order. I'm a big fan of their rice bowls. Good size portion, good flavor. You can add ginger, teriyaki, shrimp sauce, mustard or soy sauce to suit your taste. Drink machine is limited in choices, wish they would invest in a newer make your own flavor type of machine For on the go, I recommend calling ahead and placing an order. I figured I should check this place out since I was in the area. I got California roll and shrimp tempura roll. The prices are responsible. The California roll was good and the rice they used was good quality and had a good texture. However, the shrimp tempura wasn't that good though. The tempura batter lacked flavor. The place was clean and I like the fact that you can watch them make your food. They had many other dishes like stir fry and and bento boxes. You can either dine in our get takeout. This is definitely a fast food restaurant. That being said, the food is delicious and the prices are reasonable. They give you a decent amount. The lunch box comes with 4 pieces of sushi, a scoop of rice, and a good amount of meat and vegetables. I do wish the drinks were included in the meals, but that's my only complaint (if that could even be called a complaint). The service is pretty fast food-ish. They give you your food, ask if everything is okay, and don't really bother you after that. If you ever need anything, the cashier is willing to help. Considering I'm a bit introverted, this works out perfectly for me. They do serve it on Styrofoam plates, as another reviewer complained about, but I don't see what else would be appropriate. This place is basically fast food hibachi so don't expect anything super great, it is good if you want something quick and cheap. I got vegetable hibachi and most of the vegetables were onions. If you order water it is 30 cents. read more

Was not the best hibachi I have had but was also not the worst. Most of the vegetables were onions and some of the chicken had a weird taste. Didn't like that they served your food on styrofoam plates and with plastic forks. Also you have to pay for a water cup. read more

I'm confused on if this place closes at 9 or 10 ?? Considering i went at 9 & the restaurant was basically closed. I just recently moved back and i loved coming here .. now, not so much. The food was good but the customer service is terrible. The Sushi was pretty dang good. This is fast food Japanese at its best. But def fast food. The service was okay and the waitress brought us our food and thats about it. No checking in on us afterwards. Decent prices. read more
