Shiro Tonkatsu Ramen - good flavor, broth wasn't too rich for me like most ramen broths. Char Shu was good but could have had more flavor. Black Garlic Ramen - good flavor as well Overall good ramen spot in Dublin. It didn't blow my mind but also was better than most ramen places I've been to. We came in around dinner time on a Friday. It was pretty packed. Good to see fellow Asians to know that this food is good. They have 8 tables and a bar area. We sat in the bar area. Service was good. The waiter was nice and attentive even though it was a packed house and it seemed like he was the only one and one other person came later. We ordered the fried octopus. They were good. I just can't get over eating the baby heads. I ordered the Kurotonkatsu (black garlic) ramen. The ramen was a good texture and the broth was good. My hubs got the Aka Ramen with the spice. His broth had a good spice kick. I also ordered a hot HK milk tea that was legit like cafes in HK with the cut and "black & white" logo. Finally a place with real HK milk tea. The waiter said I could Order it cold, so that might be something to try next time. Don't be fooled by the name or decor here. Half the food here is Hong Kong cafe food. That being said, the hk cafe food here actually tastes very authentic with alot of options including breakfast items. I think the owners are Chinese. I'd even say its one of the better hk cafes that I've been to. I got the hk milk tea and the baked chicken over spaghetti, which were both really solid. Love the authentic HK dishes. My favorite is Ox tongue over rice with black pepper sauce, French toast and iced lemon tea. For HK style food, they taste the best in Tri-Valley! Had a ramen craving and decided to try Fujiwara out. It's located in a complex with tons of restaurant options. Ample parking and there were 2 tables for outdoor seating. It was a nice day out so we decided to sit outside. We ordered the miso broth with chicken and the seafood ramen. Both were good; could have definitely done with more noodles! I've dined here and ordered take out several times and the food is always consistent and delicious! My go-to is the tonkatsu ramen and fried octopus. I tried the black garlic ramen but it wasn't my favorite. It tasted...burnt? Maybe I just don't know how to enjoy it lol The fried octopus is crispy and I like the spicy Mayo sauce that comes with it. The ramen includes cha su, bamboo shoots, wood ear, a soft boiled egg, onions and a choice of thin or thick noodles. The soup is flavorful and rich! It's located in the Ulferts center and I would recommend coming here during the week for dinner or if you come on the weekends, try to come when they open up for lunch/dinner. It does get busy! Parking can be a pain during the weekends but if you don't mind waking, there is additional parking behind the center. I hope this ramen shop stays for a long time! Fujiwara is probably the best ramen spot you can find in Dublin. I ordered the aka ramen (spicy ramen). The noodles texture was good, chasu was well flavored and not overly fatty, half boiled egg was well-made. Spice was manageable. My only complaint was the broth -- it was oily and lacking in tonkotsu flavor. Not sure if it was because they didn't cook the broth long enough but I wasn't the biggest fan of it. Definitely have had better (not around here, but there are some really great spots in South Bay & SF). Overall, not bad. Worth a visit! Fujiwara is located within the Dublin Ulferts Center...could also be known as the most annoying place to find parking in Dublin. lol This restaurant is very small, they had a full house on Friday night (tables are distanced, which is appreciated). We only waited about 10 min or so for a table for 2. The waitress there was hustling! She was the only waitress taking care of all the tables, outdoor dining and take out. Go her! Now on to the food: out of the appetizers, the fried calamari was hands down the winner. Perfectly crispy and chewy but not rubbery, paired with a creamy aioli *chefs kiss* The gyoza was also good, but the sauce was just ok and the fried oysters had too much breading for my personal liking but not bad! Overall, I would probably only get the calamari next time. I had the aka konkotsu ramen with thick noodles and asked them to make it double spicy (I like to sweat and cry when I eat spicy foods), I was not sweating or crying but the ramen had a nice kick to it. My boyfriend had the kuro tonkotsu, he loved it. We also shared a pitcher of sapporo. At this point, I'm beyond stuffed and my pants don't fit so we need to go. My boyfriend goes up to the register to pay and I hear a quiet "ok, that will be $221" and NOW I'm crying! Turns out I have bad hearing and the bill was only $71, I was completely shocked! Fujiwara is an interesting mix of Japanese dishes and HK comfort food. Service is a bit slow, the kitchen seems to get overwhelmed, so dishes come out sporadically. HK dishes are really good and they serve mazemen (which is a dry ramen) that doesn't seem to be super common here but is a wonderful variation to try. Mazemen is mainly more interesting from texture perspective since it's a "dry" dish. I would definitely recommend giving the mazemen or the HK dishes a try but be prepared to wait if they're busy. read more

The Food I've found this place, Fujiwara (Ramen) a while back, and have been meaning to try it. Finally got a chance to do so after hiking with a friend. I originally wanted to get their Kuro Tonkotsu (Black Garlic) ramen, but got their Fujiwara instead. Wanted to get the standard ramen to set a baseline, and probably come back for the Kuro Tonkotsu. The ramen comes in a bonito broth, but is tonkotsu style because it is richer. It is a good broth that is not simple bonito broth, but with added flavor. The toppings are pretty standard with cha-shu, tamago, dried nori, etc.. The noodle is the traditional, slightly thick, wavy type of ramen, it was good. We also ordered Chicken Kara-age as an appetizer. I felt the kara-age was only slightly crispy and not very crunchy, but the flavor was not bad. The Miscellaneous Fujiwara is inside a shopping plaza, on the first floor, which wasn't too hard to find. There is also a decent amount of parking available within the plaza as well. The interior of the restaurant is interesting. It has a center bar area with seating around the side. The center has a display of sake overhead. They have a good, standard selection of food and drinks on the menu. But it is not overwhelming with too much selection. The prices were reasonable. Their employees are sincere, and provide good service. I would come back and try their other selection if the chance permits. If you are seeking ramen, this is not a bad place to try. read more

Decent Ramen joint, worth visiting for dine-in once COVID is done. The family requested Japanese food for dinner after a memorable visit to the Hayward Japanese Gardens earlier in the day. I quickly scanned Yelp, and Fujiwara - a new addition to the bevy of Asian restaurants in Ulferts Center in East Dublin - showed up. Several solid reviews from Yelp Elites I trust - sold! There was no one there when I walked in a few minutes before 6. The proprietor came out when he heard me and apologized for not having all menu items available, including some that I was craving after reading Yelp reviews. I ordered four of the appetizers they had available and one Ramen entrée - total came to a little over $40. It took about 15 minutes for the order to be prepared; I spent the time wandering around Ulferts Center and taking note of the restaurants that are still operating. At home, our famished family attacked the food - I barely had time to take pictures for this review! Here's what we thought: -- Chicken Kara-age appetizer ($7): kids favorite; hard to get fried chicken wrong, and they didn't. -- Fried Calamari ($7.50): the missus and I enjoyed this, especially when dipped in aioli. Took us back to our dating days when fried calamari was a staple every time we ate out. -- Cha-Shu Bowl ($4.50): amazing value for money, and my favorite dish of the evening. -- Boiled Dumpling Soup ($6.50): a tad bland, but the dumplings were cooked perfectly. -- Kuro Tonkotsu (black garlic) Ramen ($14): they kindly kept the pork broth separate on request (my wife dislikes it, I love it) so she could taste some of the bowl before I drowned it in broth. The food here is really very good. We had the pork katsu curry, black garlic ramen and menzame and all were delicious! The reason for the minus 1 star is the ambiance. The two times we've been here there's a strong cleaner/chemical smell. While it's nice to know the place is being cleaned it's a bit unappetizing when it's the first thing you smell when you walk in. Also it was very cold inside but luckily we all brought something warm to wear. I noticed someone walking in after us that said it was cold as well. There is a tv with sports playing but it was kind of too quiet inside. I personally think music is always nice in the background. I think if they worked on their ambiance a bit this would be a very popular place. They do add a 16% service fee but the waiter pointed it out and even said to just sign it which we appreciated. read more

Came here with a partner for dinner. Food was expensive and mediocre. Ordered a black garlic ramen and it was the worst ramen I have ever eaten. The soup just tasted like salt water with a very nauseating pork after-taste. Their mixed grill steak was also just average. It comes with soup and a drink of choice, which tasted alright, but it was expensive. The worst part of this restaurant is the FORCED GRATUITY (see picture of the receipt). This is the first time I've seen a 16% service charge for 'parties of 1 or larger.' This charge wasn't mentioned on the menu or anywhere else, so we were surprised when we saw the bill. Maybe it was in extremely small print, like misleading advertisements--who knows? A service charge is understandable if there are 4 or more people, but we only had 2. The service was very normal--just the usual order and delivery. This doesn't warrant a tip. Also noting that we have come here a couple of times previously to give this place chance after chance, but the food always left us unsatisfied. Their ramen quality is consistent, and they offer both thin and thick noodles that are chewy. Broth is hearty and they really load up on ingredients too with super-soft pork belly and a marinated egg with a runny yolk. You can't go wrong with their Shio Tonkotsu, Fujiwara, or Black Garlic broths. The other awesome thing about Fujiwara are their appetizers. Probably my favorite place for Ramen in the Tri-valley area. I was impressed by the Fujiwara(Original Bonito Broth) since my very first visit and each time after, i would always get the same thing... so far every bowl has been very good to my taste buds! The broth is rich and perfectly seasoned with chewy ramen noodles. Perhaps they used some chinese cured Ham(JinHua) to get that crazy smoky aroma in the broth, no matter what it is, it is wonderfully delicious. I also enjoy their Cha-Shu Bowl very much. The Cha-Shu has great flavor and the meat is very tender. Although it says mini on the menu, its a pretty decent portion at a great price point. I always get it for the kiddies. Take outs has been just as good, quality not lowered at all. Service is great, very friendly staff. They've been practicing all the extra precautions since COVID. Don't know why it took me so long to write a review but they are definitely worthy of a great one. Salivating as I type away. Will probably visit them again very very very soon :) read more

NorCal is stepping up its Ramen game. I was pleasantly surprised by Fujiwara. Their signature ramen was very good. The broth was flavorful without being too heavy. The noodles were well cooked. The pork was tender and tasty. Now I know that if I'm craving good ramen there's a place nearby that will hit the spot. 10 years ago, I had to go to Japan to find good ramen. 5 years ago, a different city. They are COVID friendly and encourage takeout orders as there are just two small tables out front with no indoor seating. For both bowls we made substitutions and additions which were all made correctly! The karaage appetizer came out first piping hot with dipping sauces in little to-go containers. Then the ramen, which had fresh ingredients and great meats! Would absolutely come back. I broke my ramen drought with a trip to Fujiwara today. The pandemic has forced me to do takeout, and this is where Fujiwara shines as well. Chashu, noodles, sprouts, woodear, bamboo, and a soft boiled egg are packed separate from the broth. The piping hot broth is packed in tightly sealed plastic containers. Sturdy paper bags contain all the good stuff, along with napkins and eating utensils. I kept everything in my trunk and had no spills on my drive home. I placed an order in person, and the food was ready in less than 10 mins. As far as the food goes, I tried both the black garlic tonkotsu, and their standard tonkotsu. Both broths were rich, creamy, and flavorful (but not too salty). I had a great ramen experience, and am sure that I'll be back. read more

I was craving for good ramen and my go-to (Jinya) sadly had permanently closed but thank goodness there was still Fujiwara! I really liked Fujiwara ramen, especially their pork bone broth that was super savory, rich and full of umami. The noodles were always perfectly cooked and still retained good bounciness when bitten into. Their toppings were great too - with chashu slices, a whole tea egg (not half!), bamboo shoots, kikurage, cooked bean sprouts and some sliced scallions. I also really appreciated that they separated the noodles plus the toppings from the broth. During the pandemic, obviously they weren't opened for dine-in customers but they were still fully functioning as a take-out restaurant. I ordered over the phone and was given an estimated wait time of only 10 minutes. That was quick. Once I got to the restaurant, I only got to pay and then simply take my order already prepared in a brown bag. It was an easy and convenient process. They provided some plexiglass barrier between customers and the cashier, which was a great idea and I appreciated. However, only improvement that I would suggest is that they should provide a hand sanitizer for their takeout customers - I didn't see it when I was there today, or at least it wasn't placed somewhere conspicuous to me... other than that, my experience today was pretty great. read more

A solid small ramen shop in a plaza full of hood Asian food. One of the first signs this place was going to be good was the menu size--one page front and back with a focused set of options. Got our order taken and our food came out quickly. For ramen, I got the Fujiwara ramen with spicy sauce on the side. The noodle was cooked just right, the soft boiled egg was still runny and not overcooked. The cha shu was tender. I literally had no complaints about my meal other than the fact that I was still hungry after my meal...which is honestly rare for me since I am very petite and tend to struggle to finish my meals everywhere else. So I would recommend ordering an appetizer. Service was average. They were quick and efficient but don't recall ever being checked up on, which I don't mind. They have a simpler menu with ramens and appetizers you'd typically find at a ramen place, nothing too unique but so far everything I've had has solid flavors! The Black Garlic Tonkatsu ramen is a great option if you're looking for richer and heavier flavors. The black garlic adds an even stronger umami flavor to the already rich tonkatsu broth. The Shoyu ramen is also very deeply flavored but still light. Recommend if you want something more hearty and light! The chashu that comes with the ramen is on the thinner side, but it's very soft and tender. I'd say the egg lacks a bit of flavor. For appetizers, highly recommend the chicken karaage! Pretty good ramen place for the east bay! While I will admit there are better shops in San Jose, vegas, and LA, Fujiwara is a step in the right direction for the east bay. Came here on a Sunday with 4 friends after a night of drinking (great hangover meal). They have two big flat screens for football and I guess not many people know about this place yet. For starters, we got the gyoza and calamari. The gyoza was japan-authentic, and the calamari came with some delicious sauce. Onto the main dish, I got the spicy tonkatsu ramen. It was spicy enough for me and I love it spicy. The egg, firm noodles, chasu, and toppings were above average. The broth could use some more flavor. Overall, I'm very happy Osaka is gone and they've rebranded to fujiwara. I'll be coming here in the future for sure! read more

Fujiwara opened in Dublin's Ulferts Center back in September 2019, replacing Osaka Ramen. E and I came here for lunch on 10/01/2019. We walked in at 1 pm and the place was busy with lunch goers. We were greeted and seated at the last available table. The renovated interior looked bright and welcoming. There was a newly installed counter island in the middle. That and the half a dozen or so tables provided enough seating for dine-in customers. There were a couple TVs mounted on the walls. Their logo was prominently displayed on one of the walls. We were served by one of owners, a friendly Chinese lady. I asked and was told that they are not affiliated with famed tsukemen shop by the same name in Hiroshima, Japan. She also told me that her business partner spent more than a decade learning his craft at a Japanese restaurant in New York. Their menu featured five ramen options plus close to a dozen appetizers. E and I each got a bowl of their Kuro Tonkotsu ($13). I also got a mini Chashu Bowl ($4.5) on the side. Our food came pretty quickly. They were nicely presented on wooden trays bearing their logo. The Kuro Tonkotsu came with thick noodles by default (you have the option of thin or thick noodles). Accompaniments included two thick slices of chashu, nori, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, kikurage mushrooms, a seasoned egg (halved), and finely chopped scallions. The broth, topped with their black garlic sauce, was thick in body and robust in taste. It dressed the noodles really well. The egg was perfect. It was marinated in a slightly sweet soy brine and had a very creamy yolk. The chashu was tasty but a bit dry. The rest of the accompaniments were fine. The chashu bowl was generously portioned and pretty tasty. Chopped chashu, half of a ramen egg, pickled ginger, and scallions topped a good size bowl of rice. I liked the fact the they didn't overdo it with the sauce. Service we received was good. The lady boss and another staff member checked on us a few times during our meal. The total, with T/T, was about $40. Overall, I thought the quality and value of the food were good and much better than its predecessor. I would put them ahead of the nearby Jinya in both categories. Delish ramen in a busy strip mall. Black garlic ramen is the way to go. Wasn't incredibly garlicky but the flavors in the broth worked. So much umami without being unnecessarily oily.
