I was looking for a bento box lunch special for myself while in the area and stumbled upon Kaki Sushi. I tend to shop nearby and have seen the restaurant but haven't been in the area during lunchtime until today. I did learn they also have lunch specials on Saturdays too, so I will be back with my husband next time. I walked in and ordered, and the lady was so nice and welcoming. My order was packed and ready to go without much of a wait, which was nice. It didn't take long, so it's very helpful for people on a time crunch. I got the 3 item bento box with katsu chicken, California roll, and sashimi. It also came with miso soup, salad, and rice. I got it to go, so I was happy the soup was included because I notice some restaurants don't always include soup on togo orders. The katsu chicken was light and seasoned nicely, and the katsu sauce tasted a little different than normal, so maybe it's freshly made. I wasn't a fan of the California roll only because I am not a fan of the whole roll chunks of imitation crab meat but it wasn't a full deal breaker. The sashimi tasted fresh with a nice, soft, buttery texture. I still think about their sashimi at times, it's up there with some of the best pieces of fish I've eaten. read more

My son took us to Kaki Sushi for lunch a few weeks ago. They have a pretty comprehensive menu. My son ordered a bento box. His wife ordered a donburi bowl. My wife ordered sukiyaki and I ordered a 3 item bento box. I had gyoza, mixed tempura and chicken katsu with a salad, white rice and miso soup. I liked all three items in my bento: the gyoza didn't have a crispy bottom but good flavor, chicken katsu was tender with a nice deep fried coating and the tempura was fried nicely (light and crispy). My wife liked the flavor of the sukiyaki and the ingredients. My son's wife had a sashimi donburi with fresh fish and my son went with a three item bento beef teriyaki, mixed tempura and three piece nigiri. He said the Nigiri was fresh, tempura was fried nicely, not oily and the tempura was tasty. The Miso soup and salad were fresh and tasty. We will definitely go back. Love the sakedon (salmon sashimi with rice) here! And it also comes with miso soup and salad. The fish was very fresh and the salmon slices were good sized slabs. It was $25 which seems to be around the typical pricing of the sakedon in the bay. I cannot believe we haven't written a review before this. We've been eating at Kaki Sushi for almost 10 years and it's our go to spot for Japanese/Sushi. The staff are so sweet and they've been incredible at accommodating my son's shellfish allergy - we eat here regularly and have never had an issue. The food is so good and quality is consistent. First time I've ever been served a sashimi platter with all of the same types of fish... Wtf is this ? And it was also all just prefrozened stuff that wasn't fresh. Had to smother in sauce to get it down and the horseradish (fake wasabi) wouldn't even mix into the soy sauce. The OMG roll we ordered was misleading and looked nothing like the photos. The other roll I ordered was just completely covered in spicy mayo and was all I could taste. Probably to cover the not so fresh fish. The spicy mayo wasn't mentioned on the menu otherwise I wouldn't have ordered it. Can we all stop smothering rolls in spicy mayo and calling this sushi? Went to Kaki Sushi with my Son. Always good food. I ordered the Pork Katsu. My son ordered the Sashimi Deluxe dinner. And we split a Spicy Tuna and Spider roll. Started with Miso soup and green salad. I think it's pretty hard to screw up miso soup. And salad was a salad. My tonkatsu was very moist and came with a small container of tonkatsu sauce on the side with 3 slices of Takuan (pickled daikon). Tonkatsu also came with a small bowl of rice. My son's sashimi looked fresh. A good amount of 4 types of fish (Saba, Ahi, Sake, and Hamachi). The spicy tuna roll was 6 pieces. And I think the spider roll had 5 pieces. Little smaller portions than at other places but tasty. Service was good. Servers are always very nice and courteous. Food came out promptly. The winner of the rolls was the green dragon; the worst was the OMG roll - I couldn't even eat it. They dizzled a sweet, candy like chili sauce on top that I couldn't enjoy. Kaki sushi is a great restaurant with a cozy ambiance. We ordered 3 rolls and a fried squid ring appetizer. Food came out quickly and hot. The service was great as well since we always felt attended to. It started to get busy by the end of our meal but it was nice since we didn't feel rushed out the door to make room for others. I will say that the restaurant itself is on the smaller side but we did sit closer to the front of the restaurant so I'm not sure the actual size of the restaurant if it would be good for larger parties. read more

Kaki Sushi is located off to the side of semi-busy plaza. There is some parking right out front, or you can park a bit further away in the main part of the plaza. I ordered to go and went to pick up, the employee seemed a bit confused about my order, until another employee came and figured it out. The employees were not friendly/welcoming, maybe they are nicer if you are dining in? I ordered my usual sake maki and sake nigiri with an order of kani nigiri. I tried to explain in to the first employee about my order of kani nigiri - I asked for imitation crab and was trying to explain to her what I was looking for versus what I got, but she did not understand - so I just took the L and left, but ended up coming back multiple times because they did not give me any soy sauce packets and utensils as well. For the taste of the sushi, it was bland, almost tasteless, I felt like I was eating rubbery salmon that is not fresh. Small and nice sushi place in Pleasanton-- I highly recommend! The owners are super nice and friendly, especially if you sit at the bar area. The interior is also nice and quaint, and I love how it's all decorated like a Japanese restaurant. Quality of the sashimi is superb and I love how each piece of sashimi is thick and fresh. We ordered the special Chef's choice sashimi platter, and we ordered an additional place of salmon sashimi because it was so good. They also have a variety of appetizers to choose from. I highly recommend the shisaimo, baked mussels and the chicken karaage. Love how everything isn't salty but flavorful and the price for all the appetizers is very reasonable. Came here for dinner on a Sunday night. In all honesty, we were planning to go somewhere else but decided to pick something closer to home. I'm so glad we did because this place was fantastic! Tucked away in a plaza next to Walmart Neighborhood Market, this is a small establishment with some A1 food! My wife and I got some rolls to share and ended up getting tempura ice cream for dessert. The Kaki Roll was delicious and very deserving of the "signature" designation. I can appreciate rolls that are light and airy but still full of flavor. It didn't have an overwhelming amount of rice so your palette has the chance to capture every last texture and taste. We were very pleased with the service. Our water glasses were never empty. This is our secret go to spot for sushi. It's hidden in the back amongst a bunch of Indian restaurants and markets. Right next to the I dont know how they survive Mountain Mike's Pizza. We recently came back for the 47th time last night and didn't realize I never did a review. The food here is always fresh, and I almost always get the sushi and sashimi combo at $25. Comes with standard fare nigiri and 4 pieces of sashimi with some cali rolls. The sashimi is dynamite. See the pics. The kids usually get the katsu. Crispy fried goodness. We normally get some kinda free appetizer, like hamachi kama. But this time we didn't. Cutting costs maybe? Staff is very friendly, but the young kids have trouble with my alcohol orders at times. Long story. It ain't cheap, but good sushi and cheap don't go together. Family of 4, with a big beer, $110 with tip. Oh and this place is a hit with the richer folk. There are regulars here, and on this night, the parking row was filled with a Mercedes GL AMG ($126k starting), a Tesla Model S, and a Maserati 4 door coupe. We came up to visit my hubby while he is up here working, and I needed to redeem myself for the horrible sushi experience we had the last time we were in Livermore. Mission accomplished! I jumped on Yelp, looking for a good place, and although it wasn't the first one that popped up, it was close and had good reviews. We came on a Thursday night, and it was not too busy when we arrived and we were grateful for that. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and escorted to a table. The service was amazing from the beginning! So genuinely sweet and attentive from both the guy and girl who were serving us. I ordered drinks and edamame while my hubby took the kids to the restroom, and everything was at the table before they returned. We ordered 2 Hamachi rolls, a dragon roll, a regular rainbow roll, a spicy rainbow roll, a chefs special sashimi plate, and teriyaki chicken. We were finishing the soup and salad as the food arrived and it was perfect timing! The kids didn't even have time to get restless! Haha! The fish was very fresh and tasty. I love that there wasn't too much rice in the rolls, and instead of a regular california roll in the middle, it was another piece of fish and vegetables. Perfect! My son ordered the dragon roll, and before I could ask how it was, he had half of it gone! Haha! Both servers were very accommodating and attentive. It was nice because they weren't overbearing where they came over too much, and they weren't non-existent. They found that perfect balance. It was a very enjoyable experience. Good food, great service, clean restaurant... I wish we were able to come all the time. This will definitely be a place we frequent when we visit up here. One thing I especially loved was when we were walking out, my toddler stopped and said good bye to all the sushi chefs and each and every one of them stopped what they were doing to say a quick and genuine good bye to her! I have an impromptu lunch with my mother in law. I have luncheon bento with sashimi (2 tuna + 2 salmon) and salmon teriyaki. Sashimi is fresh! serve with correct room temperature (slightly chill). Salmon pieces are buttery. I really really like it. Next time, when I come, I would order their sashimi items For togo: Bento with tempura and salmon teriyaki Washington roll - salmon with sliced lemon and tuna+ avocado. I ate all with the sliced lemon, surprisingly, it gives a delight not too overpowering citrusy taste. Very good! Services is descent! Nice and attentive lady. My cousin and I call this place "cheap sushi." By that we mean great value: it's really solid and not too expensive. It comes with free edamame and usually ice cream at dinner. The booth seating creates a really intimate vibe. What's not to love? Groups -- probably best at max 8. I made it here once with a group of 7 and we did alright. Friendly staff.
