Seriously 5 stars? It's good for a quick meal and I like it, but a bit crazy for 5, sorry a 3 for me, not anything bad but as expected. Malatang is a Chinese staple food, it is like pizza, chicken wings or bbq, you have to try to make it bad. The main differentiating between them is ingredients and broth. The main broth (Tomyum) is pretty tasty, I thought it would be thick and heavy but it is more like a soup (I did drink a bit and it was delicious). Ingredients vice it is just what you eat at buffets that has hot pot or malatang section. I found the lamb to be a bit better quality than buffets, fried egg old and stale (the only disappointment), green veggies quite a surprising delight (I usually don't eat that). Pig intestines, beef tendon are well cooked and seasoned, which were also delightful.

Have not been here in a while. Service was still very attentive. Soup came out as speedily as before. Tasty broth and I loved the sauce area. Simple, bright and comfortable seating.

Bone Broth, mild spiciness, about 1.7 lbs dry basis

I came here for lunch with the wife for our biweekly Friday lunch date. Zhangliang Malatang takes the concept of Asian "hot pot" with a DIY noodle bar. You literally pick your own ingredients from their huge ingredient bar using this gigantic salad bowl. You'll be charged $15.99 per lb of dry weight, and then they'll cook everything in the broth of your choice. Virtually every food group is represented: various fish balls, greens, root veggies, sliced beef and lamb, tofu, octopus and squid, eggs, and even exotic items like cogealed pork blood, braised intestines, and yes even frog legs. Their noodle options are also diverse - ramen (regular and purple-colored ube ones), soba, egg noodles, udon, and thin rice noodles. I enjoyed my Tom Yum soup with mild spiciness and got about 1.5-lb worth of ingredients: * 2 helping of fresh noodles - I like them thick and chewy * Slices of lamb - excellent, I would get more next time and less fish balls * Crown Daisy ("tong po") - an excellent green vegetable for hot pot * Bamboo Shoots * Lotus Roots * Various fish balls - note these are filling and some have additional ingredients like sea urchin inside. As you can see, the permutations are endless. Since its DIY, the healthiness, calories, and tastiness are all up to you. Maybe we can try using A.I. to optimize all three for you, LOL!

Picked up some food to go and it took a little longer than expected (15-16 min- I was in a hurry). You walk in, pick a bowl and tongs and select proteins, veggies, and carbs. They weigh your items and you make your broth selection. You are given 2 sauce containers (slight cost if you want more) per bowl and they pack everything for you. I appreciate that they cook the food and separate the broth from your cooked items so noodles don't get soggy. Since food is weighed, it can easily add up. My bowl was about $26 with tip. Considering that some items were frozen, I feel this is a little steep. Overall, taste was fine and service was good. Inside of restaurant was clean and water is self serve.

4.5 stars. Came here on a Friday night and waited about 5 minutes, but a lot of people came after us and had to wait, so it definitely gets busy. Located in a plaza with plenty of parking, which is super convenient. It's not a big restaurant and the tables are pretty close together, so it can feel a little cramped when it's full. Love the self-serve setup! You pick your ingredients, choose your broth and spice level, and they cook it for you. There's also a sauce bar on the side to mix your own dipping sauce. I got the bone broth (mild) and it was super flavorful and comforting.

Came to this location in Dublin and it was good. I believe mine was $15.99/pound. Note you do have to have a minimum of 1 lb which actually is a decent amount. My husband had to add an udon to get over the 1 lb. You can choose a dry pot szechuan option or a soup option. FOOD - I got the beef bone broth which was super milky/white, which surprised me. It wasn't overly salty and had decent flavor. My favorite toppings were the lamb, the rice cake, the wide yam noodles, the potato noodles and udon. I wish they had a non spicy dry pot option, because I think I wold have liked that better than the soup. We came on a Sunday around 6pm and when we were leaving around 6:40 there was a bit of a wait. Overall, if you like this type of cook for you hot pot/dry pot then you should definitely come to try this.

I have been to Zhangliang Malatang in Berkeley and wanted to try this location since it is so highly rated on Yelp. When you walk in, they assign you a table and then you grab a bowl and tongs to pick your ingredients. After that they weigh your bowl, with a one pound minimum at $15.99. This location actually has a bigger variety of food options compared to Berkeley. I noticed items like fried egg, marinated soy egg, and a wide selection of noodles. I ordered the tom yum broth and asked for medium spicy, but it came out very mild. The flavor was still good and overall just as tasty as Berkeley. Service was friendly and efficient too. The downsides are mostly about the space itself. The restaurant is about half the size of the Berkeley one and it gets really warm inside. They did not seem to have the AC on and I was sweating while eating. I was relieved every time the door opened because the outside air was cooler. The sauce bar setup is also cramped and feels awkward. At the end they gave out watermelon, which was a nice touch, but unfortunately it was not sweet at all. I will definitely be back because the food is solid, but I really hope they turn on the AC next time.

Great broth. Soup for the soul. Self serve hot pot. What can get better than this and the prices were pretty affordable at minimum $15.99 a bowl when weighed in at 1 lb. LOTS of options. You choose your broth (tomato, tom yum, classic beef, and bone broth) and spice level (mild, medium, spicy). Mild already did the job for me as someone who cannot handle that much spice. I cannot even imagine what that spicy tastes like LOL. But, I can definitely see how a bowl could easily weigh more than a pound... My friend and I were able to get a good amount of meat and toppings (udon noodles, tofu puff, cabbage, fish ball, Napa cabbage, mushroom), but if I had anything to comment on it would be to bring in more sliced meat roll options! There were only angus beef and lamb. Clean environment and I like the concept of you sitting down to wait for your soup after weighing it in and the mini sauce bar available. You also pay after your meal!

Been here many more times since my last review. It's my favorite malatang in comparison to all other malatangs, even in comparison to other ZL locations! I love this place because they have the white beef broth! I good if you can't handle spicy (especially for kids). I love that I control how spicy I can make my bowl by putting my own chili oil. After much reflection, I really appreciate and love that they proportion your soup and bowl size to your food selection. I now make sure to get enough food to last me at least two meals.

My first time here--and definitely not the last! I'm beyond satisfied! The restaurant is small, so we waited about 15 minutes to get seated. After choosing our ingredients and weighing our bowl (2.46 lbs), it took another 10 minutes for the food to be served. Totally worth the wait! My husband and I shared the bowl with the mild Beef Broth. It was perfectly seasoned--we didn't even need any extra sauce or condiments! After a long day at work, we came in starving, but the portion was so generous we couldn't even finish it. Huge bowl, amazing flavor, great value, and good service all around!

We had a great time at Zhangliang Malatong. They have an amazing selection of toppings to choose from. Perfect for folks with dietary restrictions and "picky eaters". Lots of fun for kids. Everyone can be happy and get just what they want! They charge you based on the weight of the toppings, $15.99/lb. There is a minimum of 1 pound of toppings, but they waive this requirement for kids. Little one got just under a pound - lots of seafood and two types of noodles. He said, "I liked everything!" He loved the beef broth, which was rich and creamy, "nice and hot" (temperature). They do have 3 non-spicy broth options: tomato, beef, or mushroom. But their most popular are the spicy "classical bone soup" bases. I selected the mild, which still has quite a bit of heat! If you're unsure, pick a non-spicy one and add chili oil at the end. All of the veggies are fresh and delicious. I loved their hand pulled "fresh noodles". Mushrooms are awesome! The tea eggs are great and I wished I got 2. DH is a fan of their lamb and soft tofu. They even have frog legs, although we didn't try it this time. The beef tendon is a little chewier than we would like. They have a variety of hot pot staples, like dumplings, fish cake, and blood cake. Check out the photo for the sauce and toppings you can add after the soup is done cooking. I put garlic and green onions in my soup. "Mild" was plenty spicy and flavorful for me! The ambiance is casual, but the staff were constantly working to keep the place clean. Everyone was welcoming and sooooo friendly! Really a fantastic dining experience!

There is plenty of parking in this plaza. This place is on the smaller side so there isn't too much seating. The staff is friendly and the service is really good. I went during opening time, but I can imagine this place getting real busy. There was a variety of hot pot ingredients with different types of meats, noodles and vegetables. It had some unique food items such as the noodles here compared to other spots. My favorite soup was the classic bone broth. The Tom Yum soup was solid. If you can't handle spicy, I would get your soups mild. The hot pot here is very good quality and I would definitely come back again.

After reviewing a few hot pot places on Yelp, I chose Shabu King based on the positive reviews. I called to make a reservation. On the day of our visit, I was glad to find our table was ready at the appointed time. One of the staff explained that each person first pick a broth type, then you can request side dishes or type of meat(different cuts of beef, pork and there is also lamb). For vegetables and seafood, they have a bar area for each and you can pick from the generous selections of fresh seafood and vegetables. I was really impressed with the variety. For seafood, they have whole small octopus, sliced calamari, fish fillets, clams, mussels, whole large prawns, as well as small crab. They also have a condiment bar for you to make you own dipping sauce. Each person get their own pot, and we enjoyed many helpings throughout the evening. Sometimes it may be difficult to flag down a server, but when you do they are friendly and eager to take your order. I think their operation can be improved by having customers scan a bar code and order online as I have experienced in other AYCE places. Everyone in our party enjoyed their own customized hot pot, and we walked away with a very full belly. Will be back again when I have the craving for AYCE hot pot!

But years later, Tasty Pot at Ulferts Center is still one of our reliable go-to spots in Dublin. My wife usually orders the Beef Hot Soup, while I go for the Taiwanese Supreme Spicy Hot Soup - both with a side of rice and either black or green tea during lunchtime. Both pots are consistently delicious, satisfying, and served steaming hot - the kind of hot that clears your sinuses and makes your nose run. For reference, we order them at the "medium" spice level, so either we're weak sauce or they really are that hot and spicy. I especially like that Tasty Pot's meals are complete individual servings. You get the full hot-pot experience without having to fetch ingredients, wait for a communal pot to cook, or coordinate a family-style meal. It's easy, convenient, and perfect when everyone just wants to dig into their own bowl. Service has always been fast, and the food comes out piping hot and ready to enjoy. The wait staff also checks in to see whether you are running low on soup and need a top-off. They also have a rewards program that earns you points toward a free hot pot; it has changed over the last couple of years from a "buy seven, get one free" setup to a points-based system - either way, it's a nice bonus. If you're craving comforting Taiwanese-style hot pot in the Dublin, Pleasanton, or Livermore area, this is an easy five-star choice.

My sister recommended Tasty Pot because she said it was well known for its soup and good service,…read moreso we decided to give this location a try. Unfortunately, our experience at the Dublin location was extremely disappointing. We visited on August 8, 2026, at around 8:45 PM. We are a family of 9 and were just passing through the area on our way to our hotel. Since the restaurant's website states that the closing time is 9:30 PM, we thought we had enough time to have dinner, especially since this was our first time visiting. As soon as we arrived, however, we were told by the server that 8:45 PM was the last call for orders. We immediately tried to order as quickly as possible using the online ordering system because we did not want to inconvenience the staff. After placing our order, we were then told that green tea and other teas were unavailable, so all of our drink orders were canceled except for water. We understood that items can sometimes run out, so we let that go. The biggest problem was the service and atmosphere after we received our food. It was very difficult to get the attention of the staff because everyone seemed to be rushing around cleaning. We genuinely felt like we were a burden simply because we were still eating. What was especially inappropriate was that while customers were still dining, the staff began putting chairs up on the tables. I even took a picture because I believe management should be aware of what was happening. If the restaurant is still open and customers are still eating, this is not the kind of atmosphere customers should be subjected to. Even worse, it appeared that the AC was turned off while we were still eating, even though it was not yet closing time. With hot pot already being a very warm meal, we were literally sweating while trying to eat. After a long day of traveling, the last thing we wanted was to feel rushed and uncomfortable during dinner. We tried not to make a big issue out of it because we were tired and simply wanted to finish our meal and get to our hotel. But honestly, this type of service is unacceptable. I don't know if this is how every Tasty Pot location operates, but if this is specific to this branch, management really needs to address it and properly train the staff on how to treat customers who are still dining during business hours. Unfortunately, this was our first experience with Tasty Pot, and it will most likely be our last. We were hoping to enjoy the food and understand why my sister recommended it, but the poor service and uncomfortable atmosphere completely ruined the experience. With hot pot, the food is already hot enough. There's no need for the customers to leave with a boiling-hot temper because of the service. Very disappointing, and definitely not a place I would recommend based on this experience.

There was also a bowl of green onions where you can add as much or as little as you'd like. You season the soup yourself with salt and pepper, which lets you customize it to your taste. Overall, the soup felt very healthy, light, and clean. You can taste the pork broth, but it isn't overpowering at all. Very comforting and satisfying.
