The boat also includes a martini glass with seaweed salad, providing a refreshing, upscale palate cleanser when you need a moment's break from the fish. I was very impressed with the thick cuts for the sashimi, and the toppings on the nigiri also gave a tiny twist to the meal - while yuzu and jalapaeño are common pairings with raw fish, for example, the strawberry-on-salmon was a novel combo for me! The rolls also add appeal for any eating partners who enjoy their fish in another form. While called dumpling, it's more like a delicious fish rice ball with special sauce. The house special udon with shrimp, scallop, and fish cake was also really good. I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken hibachi! It's good for being hungry because it comes with soup, veggies, rice, and some shrimp. It comes with yum yum sauce which goes well with everything and a sauce for the vegetables. The service was good, we did ask our questions about appetizers and she gave good recommendations. I really didn't know what to expect from Fuji. I feel like this location has had so much turnover of different Japanese/Asian fusion restaurants in the past few years that I was a little skeptical. However, I was pleasantly surprised. I got delivery from here and it was pretty decent. It didn't blow me away but it was decent! I was wary of salmon sushi served with strawberry on top but it wasn't bad. I liked the other garnishes as well. The scallop sushi was nice and everything tasted fresh. I always want to gatekeep Fuki because it's SOOOO GOOD. Specifically I think their fixed-price meal is a great deal. I've gotten it twice. The first course is a set platter of three types of raw fish--so generous and so good! I recently got the hamachi collar for my second course, which was so flavorful. I got their sashimi selection as my third course, and the maki roll and mochi are a great way to end. A perfect five-course with a good mix of options. Fuki is a gem that should be on every Boston area sushi fans must try list. The restaurant itself is a little tucked in from the street in Union Square but its easy to find. The rolls are inventive and beautiful and the nigiri thoughtfully assembled. All are generously sized and delicious! The volcano roll is a standout and far from the typical spicey sauce topped roll you could be used to having. The hibachi dinners are very satisfying and everything is tasty right down to the pickled vegetable side which must be house made because it was so good. As someone that does not like sushi I'm so glad that this place has more options. Our family had a great time here for dinner. This was a great place to celebrate and it got even better as the night went on. The attention was on point from the moment we walked in. The food was really tasty and well crafted. They had unusual Japanese creations like a stuffed nigiri dumpling, and the usual American Japanese fare like cut rolls named after gods or cities . Bright colors, lively food plating, good lighting and the right amount of toys. If you like sake, you can get a flight of 3 that winds up being 4 because one of the sale stands out and you wind up wanting more of that one. If you like Japanese whisky you will be blown away by the wide selection. It's hard to chose from some of the rare and even the common ones, but the kind people at Fuki were great about making recommendations. Food, Service and Environment were great. Fuki was highly recommended by a friend of mine- and I was so, SO impressed. Came with a reservation on a Thursday and it was decently busy. My guest and I both got the special set with four courses, and I definitely recommend this, as everything was delicious and left us comfortably full. Of the appetizers, I enjoyed the tuna dumpling the most, though the crispy jalapeño with hamachi was great. My absolute favorite was the second course, and I chose the hamachi kama. It came with so much meat and was crispy but juicy with a delicate flavor. My guest got the fried soft shell crab, which was a whole crab cut up and fried. The nigiri had pretty big pieces of fish and not too much rice- and the torched salmon was the best one in my opinion! We ended up getting the torched salmon and unagi rolls. Both were great, though I found the unagi roll to be a little too sweet for my taste. We ended with the mochi ice cream- mango and red bean, both of which had such strong flavors that I deeply enjoyed. The service here was great- the food came out really quickly after we finished each course, and all of the workers was very friendly. I also saw that the person next to me wasn't able to eat the mochi ice cream because of dietary restrictions, and the waitress surprised her with a plate of fruit even though she had already served the ice cream. Considering Fuki my newest hidden gem! My friends brought me here for a birthday dinner and I can confidently say we were all pleasantly surprised. We weren't sure what to expect but this experience was right in every way. They offered a value set that was composed of 4 courses for $48 and you get to pick some of your preferences. The first course was 3 sample sizes of sushi apps, followed by a hot appetizer, then a sashimi bowl, a roll of your choice AND a dessert. Talk about a steal?? Everything was so fresh and delicious. Stumbled upon their $45 set online and went to give it a try. We made reservations ahead a day before - fairly easy. You first walk into a bar area and a few high table seatings by it. There are plenty of seatings at the back as well. I actually went in with low expectations for the set menu and ended up being impressed. The sauce for the appetizers (tuna dumplings, salmon carpaccio, hamachi jalapeño) were a little too overpowering - tuna dumplings were my favorite out of the three. Salmon carpaccio was so rich but the sauce kinda drowned the richness of the salmon. I loved the deep fried soft shell crab! The batter was not too thick either. The chef's choice sashimi were all fresh too - if I had to complain the tuna pieces could be a little fattier! The makis were chef's kiss - it was a tad smaller but I think it is the perfect portion. The fried ice cream ended the set with a sweet note. I would definitely come back here for the set again. But I am not sure if I want to try the menu items since the prices are a little higher in my opinion. -7/10 read more

That's the restaurant choice. 4th course, you get to pick 1 sushi rolls. Once again, fresh rolls and again overdone with sauces. I got white tiger roll, torch salmon roll and torch tuna roll. I recommend getting white tiger roll to everyone. Smoky flavor and good amount of sauce. Last course is the dessert, which is fried ice cream which was okay. The original sushi restaurant we wanted to go to did not open until 5, so we were happy to find a place that accommodates for early dinner. My family and I ordered couple rolls, sushi and sashimi. The miso soup has crab in it, a first for me, however a pleasant surprise and added depth to the soup. We were all starving and ordered two love boats which arrived on one singular boat. Cute little hidden spot in Union square that does most of your familiar American-Japanese dishes. They have a solid list of special maki, along with the usual 'regular'-grade sushi and makimono dishes you find in other Japanese spots (California roll, spicy tuna/salmon roll, etc). The team there definitively operates at a more intimate level as you can see cohesion with waitstaff, front desk, sushi chefs, etc. We ordered Black Spider (basically a spider roll wrapped with eel), spicy salmon roll, and a chicken tempura dinner set between two people. Sushi was good, salmon was fresh and the spider roll was well crafted, not too saucy and solid presentation. The tempura set was also tasty, you can tell the wasn't old as the batter was a lovely golden brown shade. It came with miso sou and fried rice as side dishes and they were ok, nothing noteworthy. They do have cocktails and sake, but I opted for a cold Sapporo which was excellent with the meal. Honestly this little spot really pleasantly surprised me, from the polite service to the delicious sushi, as I'm writing this I do think fondly of the place. This was our first time here at Fuki. We saw a food blogger post it on IG and immediately wanted to try it out. We were lucky enough to find parking right in front. If you can't find a spot at the meter, you can park in the back of Citizens Bank. When we got to the restaurant, we were half an hour early for our 7pm reservation. They were able to accommodate us which was great. The interior decoration was so nice. Japanese theme with wall paintings. We got greeted and seated right away. Immediately the service was wonderful. Everything came out promptly. When we got to the table, they have a prefixed menu for $45 a person. It was such a good deal. We did one prefixed menu and the rest we ordered off the menu. Everything was so good. I highly recommend getting the hotate yaki as one of your appetizers. I also recommend getting the truffle toro maki and the White Tiger Roll. This was my first time at Fuki, and while I don't typically expect too much from Somerville MA Japanese, this little place really delivered. The ambiance is nothing notable, but the basic sushi, sashimi, and maki really hit the spot. We started with some speciality drinks. The Sake menu was slim but diverse enough, and the best part, was the waiter arrived worth a show-and-tell Sake bar on wheels, and also offered tastes of a couple of varietals before choosing. The Cosmo was attractively adorned with pomegranate seeds floating on a thinly sliced lime. I asked about the Uni (sea urchin) but was told it came from Maine, which is fine for Lobster, but way inferior in terms of taste and texture to Uni from either Japan (Hokaido or Tohoku) or Los Angeles. So instead of ordering à la carte, we decided on the "Love Boat" a general assortment served on a wooden dish - that was very reasonably priced @ $65. This is an excellent option if your open to a variety of Sashimi (15 pcs - maguro, sake, hamachi, a little salmon roe), Sushi (10 pcs - salmon with a piece of strawberry on top, maguro, hamachi, mackerel) a sexy girl roll (spicy kani and Jalopeño wrapped around shrimp tempura and cucumber, topped with a "special sauce"), and rainbow maki (California roll topped with tuna, salmon, white fish, and avocado). The Love Boat is an outstanding meal value and even comes with an order of seaweed salad. Service was terrific; present without being annoying.
