With the appropriate planning and mindset, I was eager to try this new AYCE sushi restaurant in Cambridge. I visited in the evening on a weekday (I know, lunch time is better for AYCE to most easily afford time to fast before and digest after) and the place was busy. There was no wait for a table though. We were presented with the menu, which was fairly comprehensive, and a stern warning not to waste food...at risk of PUNISHMENT. This was not an issue as my party did not believe in food waste. We collectively ordered a number of non-sushi bar items (like hibachi) and sushi and sashimi. I thought the quality of the sushi was solid. I've been to AYCE places where they go especially heavy on the rice and light on the fish. This was not the case here, fortunately. I enjoyed all of the sushi bar items I ordered. The hibachi steak was also tasty. The venue is well-decorated, although it's not the quietest when it's busy. Value was decent if you come with an appetite: around $37 as of June 2026 for a weekday dinner. My only hesitation is with the service itself. They didn't have a huge number of people working at the sushi bar or a huge number of waiters, so some of the items took a little while to come out. I think I'd be better calibrated the second time around to order more strategically. We also sometimes had to flag down the wait staff to order more items. Don't expect them to come to you. Sushi Kingdom is a positive addition to the neighborhood. I would return. read more

For those who usually head to Nijiya for their AYCE sushi fix, Sushi Kingdom offers an alternative for those in the Harvard Square area. Given its location, the restaurant was surprisingly busy when we visited on a Tuesday night. We ended up waiting about 30 minutes for a table at a time when we assumed students had already left for the summer (alas, we were wrong). After being seated, we were handed menus and given a very "generous" 30 minutes to look them over, though not by choice. Limited staffing combined with the dinner rush meant that no one came by our table for another half hour. My friend and I sympathized with the staff, but the delays definitely added up over the course of the meal. In fact, by the time we had placed and finished our first round, a waiter came by to ask whether we wanted a second order, only to immediately let us know that the kitchen was closing. As for the food, we mainly ordered sashimi (because why fill up on rice?), along with a few appetizers: hibachi steak, teriyaki steak, fried calamari, fried tofu and gyoza, as well as several hand rolls. With the exception of the steak and sashimi, everything was strictly fine. The fried calamari tasted good but had uneven breading, with some of the coating falling right off. The fried tofu and gyoza were standard; not bad, but not particularly memorable either. The salmon, however, was excellent and on par with Nijiya: buttery, fresh, and satisfying. The steak was also tender and juicy. For some reason, Sushi Kingdom prepares the two steak dishes differently. The teriyaki steak had better flavor, but it was noticeably more well done than the hibachi cubed steak. Unfortunately, everything else was incredibly mid. As others have noted, many of the rolls are absolutely drenched in mayo. The worst offender, and one I'd strongly avoid, was the Tuna Lover Roll. The roll itself was bland, and the minced tuna in the center had a warm, almost sour taste. Suffice it to say, we did not finish it. We came to Sushi Kingdom hoping it might be a better, or at least comparable, alternative to Nijiya, but considering both the food quality and the wait times, I'd much rather travel a bit farther for a better meal. That said, this may change. One of the waiters mentioned that they've been seeing a significant uptick in customers since opening, so perhaps things will improve once operations become more streamlined, or once the initial hype dies down. Until then, I'd probably steer clear unless you're specifically a sashimi or steak fiend. In that case, by all means, eat away. Sushi Kingdom is aesthetically pleasing with lanterns and wood all around. It's very lively, I find it hard to even hear myself talking - you will even notice some of the workers wearing Apple earbuds to cancel out some of the noises. Price per person was $36.99 AYCE. Quality was good for the price. We enjoyed the jalapeño yellowtail appetizer, miso soup, dumpling soup (very light with 3 dumplings), and their sushi rolls. They have special rolls but my friends and I find that they were more or less the same all spicy (salmon or tuna), with shrimp tempura with eel sauce or spicy mayo. We find that we enjoyed the regular rolls more. Service could be better as we had to order a couple of our items again since they did not come out. There were only 3 chefs to the amount of tables. Food comes out in the order they are ready regardless if it is appetizer, dessert, or sushi. read more

A new AYCE sushi place on Mass Ave in-between Harvard Square and Central on the red line. We came here on a Sunday night closer towards the later side of dinner hoping we wouldn't have to wait too long. We waited for about 30 minutes for a table, got seated and was told it was 15 pieces of sashimi per order by the waiter. We were given a paper for our first order, but then realized that people were just ordering from waiters who had a tablet. It was very unclear how many sashimi we could order since the paper said 6 pieces per order. We went through and ordered our first round of sushi with sashimi, some rolls, and some appetizers. The rolls were taking a very long time to make, but the sashimi came out quick, so we ordered another round of sashimi. One of the waiters told us it was actually 15 pieces of sashimi per person per order, which made much more sense because we were still quite hungry from not ordering so much. The quality of the sashimi was pretty good and it came out quick, the rolls were good, but took longer to come out. We like the tuna lover and salmon lover. It's nice that you can order different types of rolls to try out and the different appetizers. The angry dragon roll with crab was mushy and I would not recommend it. We ended the meal off with a scoop of ice cream and feeling fully satisfied. The place is quite big and there were a fair amount of families dining in. A new AYCE sushi spot in Cambridge! I was so excited to see this place had just opened and checked it out on their second night. The space is inviting, open, spacious, and feels new and clean. There's a good variety of options, so much so that my friend and I both felt like we wanted to come back just to try more items. We ordered mostly rolls and sashimi. The quality was solid across the board, even a tad better than what I was expecting for AYCE. Service was friendly, though we did have to flag staff down a couple of times. Since they had only just opened, I'm sure they're still working through some kinks. The biggest downside for me was that I'd seen uni and scallop on other menu photos, which I was really excited about, but both had been crossed out when I visited. Not sure if that'll be the norm going forward or if it was just that night. Overall, it's slightly more expensive than my other goto AYCE spot, but the quality and variety are worth it. I would rate this place a 4.5! This place newly opened in cambridge. I wish I took a photo of the dinner menu but they have a lot of cooked options like hibachi, a lots of appetizers. The sushi quality is pretty good and there are a wide selection of rolls (even specialty rolls). I am a big sashimi person, and they do have a limit of 15 pieces per fish per order, and it was also great to see they even have eel sashimi as an option. Overall, it was a great experience with great food, and the owner is wonderful and super nice! The reason i'm deducting -.5 is the waitstaff did seem pretty new, with accidentally ringing up wrong apps for us and giving us other tables apps. They were all super nice but it was confusing at times. I definitely would go back as the place is super cute and the food was good! read more

My wife and I went to Sushi Kingdom last night and we were pleasantly surprised by our experience. We were perhaps lucky, but there was no wait for us to sit, even though we did not have reservations. The restaurant was packed. The staff poured water right away and stopped by maybe 3-4 times with water. A waiter came to our table maybe within 5-10 minutes after we were seated, and we ordered a raft of sushi and sushi rolls. The sushi came reasonably quickly, and the rolls took more time -- we think that most people order rolls, so that was backed-up a bit. We had wait staff come very frequently to clear dishes and take further orders -- so no complaints at all. The manager also stopped by to say hello -- maybe we looked like reviewers? In any event, the sushi and rolls were good. The fish was fresh (not a surprise given the high volume) and tasty. For all you can eat, we really were satisfied with the quality. This is not Umami Omakase, so we're not talking about blow your mind sushi, but it was definitely a notch above the usual AYCE sushi. Bottom line, we will come back again. Note that they have been open a month during the summer. It will be interesting how they handle things when the students come back to town -- the big eaters will destroy the restaurant's profit margin and something will have to give. Either they will raise prices or the quality may drop. We will see, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for them. PS. So happy this place finally opened! Went to try their lunch and was seated very quickly. The sushi was really great. My favorite dishes were the tuna tataki, yellowtail scallion hand roll, and the salmon flaming roll. Be careful with the menu if you cannot eat raw fish. My friend ordered something thinking it wasn't raw at all but it had torched salmon that wasn't fully cooked on top. They may need to edit their menu to be more accurate. The servers also were unsure of some items but were very helpful where they could be. I was very happy to find that they offered a student discount as well. Super small detail but I wouldn't pay for a drink again. The hot tea tasted too much like tap water and the soda was bottled so not my preferred drinks. The food was horrible. There was absolutely no flavor in anything we got that was tempura. The Taro and the zucchini tempura were both under cooked. We got 4 rolls the lobster tasted imitation and the rest of the roll were just just spicy and no real flavor. If you were to close your eyes and eat, you would not be able to identify what you had in your mouth. It was the worst $80.00 I've spent. We went there as a birthday celebration l, but we left with upset stomachs. We each took 3 bites of our rolls and that was it. They saw and I told them that it wasn't good and yet we were charged $80.00. Never again, we love sushi but we'll never go there again. My table and I went here together for AYCE sushi for $37.99 and we were immediately disappointed. Although the interior and exterior design was stunning, the service was extremely slow and we would constantly wait 20-30 minutes after finishing each round before we would wait another 20-30 to actually get our food. In addition, we noticed that they would label orders with paper directly on top of the food, touching it which irked us to continue eating. And to top it all off, when we asked the manager or an employee if we would could reconsider the implemented tip on our bill, she stated, "Once we were in high school we would understand," showing that she didn't take us seriously from the start and we were carelessly taken care of simply for being teenagers (we're all in high school btw). What can I say? Went to this place last Saturday with some friends and as we entered the restaurant we were promptly greeted by our hostess, Angela. First off, we started with several appetizers, be that gyoza soup, shumai, calamari, crab rangoons, and shrimp fried rice. The moment I took that first sip of the soup I immediately began ascending, and from then on reached the point of no return. Subsequently, we dug into the shumai, which was cleared out along with the crab rangoons almost INSTANTANEOUSLY. The addition of the calamari was just EXQUISITE. Then came the fried rice, going in, each and every one of my taste buds had been enlightened. With every bite, I simply couldn't get enough of it in which I was ruthlessly blinded from my original mission. I was promptly subdued by my friends as I was an ABSOLUTE fein for it. Moving on, we began cracking down to business, what we really came for, ordering one of each type of sushi roll you possibly had to offer, determined to complete our mission of getting our money's worth. Almost instantaneously did we absolutely ANNIHILATE the first plate of sushi presented to us. It was as if we were an unstoppable force. One by one, we devoured every plate in orderly fashion. Eventually came the inevitable, the thing we most feared, what we thought we'd never succumb to, a full stomach. Subsequently, we each "emptied our tanks" if you will, and continued demolishing these shawties with brute force. Occasionally, Angela popped around, which we humorously joked around with. Afterwards, we were presented each with cups of ice cream, YAYY!! Like the absolute units we were, we obviously went for seconds, no questions asked. Soon after, what truly felt like a divine intervention, from the heavens above I could see the warm welcoming light as we were blessed with even more sushi, that of which, before we all knew it, would be the underlying cause of our eventual defeat. One by one, we each began tapping out, sitting there until we finally succumbed, it was all we could eat, we'd lost. It's been a week since our visit and the only thing I've been able to think about is the fried rice. It's safe to say that this was one of the absolute BEST nights of my life. Overall, the interior design was well made, the environment was very welcoming and splendid. The customer service was top notch, and the food was just absolutely immaculate.
