    Parts of the omakase

Love love love this place !!! It's super unique for Waikiki and you definitely would not be disappointed. We come to the island every year and I'm always trying to find new places to eat. We also have omakases pretty often and this place exceeded my expectation! Every piece is delectable and seasoned perfectly! The host and sushi chefs were fun and kept the vibes high all night. PSA: The place is hidden behind the Mexican restaurant so it seems like a speakeasy!

Wanted to celebrate a nice anniversary while on our trip and found this place. Great food for a good price! Intimate experience with only 8 seats around the counter. Enjoyable time.

Very cool place. Service is good. The quality was very fresh and some of the items were done thoughtfully. The idea of noodle with the ice bowl design was Michelin level. Personally, I felt the flavor for the sushi was lacking. In general, the taste was lighter. I really enjoyed the experience overall. Being limited to about eight people, it felt very intimate and personal. We had the chance to talk with the chef, share some jokes, and just enjoy a really wholesome atmosphere. The food was excellent everything tasted incredibly fresh. My favorite dish was the uni toast! I would definitely recommend this place and would absolutely come back.

Pu-lease! 12-course omakase for $90?! And it's freaking delicious!? Fukurou is a must for omakase lovers, and those who have yet to experience one. They switch the menu up often, but the favourites are always present. Unique to Fukurou, there is a nod to Hawaiian and Mexican cuisines in the flavour profiles. It's a very intimate setting, and is great for any occasion. Chef Miki is so creative, has a fun, cheeky sense of humour, and a splendid chef. We're moving away soon, and I have to say, Fukurou is one of the top 5 dining spots I will miss sorely.

My husband and I have made it a tradition to celebrate our wedding anniversary with an omakase dinner, and while in Hawaii, we knew we couldn't pass up the chance. We searched throughly, hoping to find something authentic, intimate, and focused on quality--away from the typical tourist spots. That's how we found Sushi Fukurou, and from the moment we discovered it, we felt an instant connection. Thankfully, we weren't wrong. First things first: reservations are tough to get. They don't take walk-ins, but if you keep an eye on their Instagram, they sometimes post last-minute openings. The experience is very speakeasy-style--hide away in a small room connected to a different restaurant. With only two seatings per night and room for about 8 guests, it is incredibly personal. Now, onto the omakase journey--12 courses including dessert, combining some classic elements with many original creations, which I absolutely loved. Every single bite was a standout, from the freshest sashimi to their smoky wagyu. We even had time for a few add-ons and repeated some of our favorites--because how could we not? What made the night even more special was the thoughtful touch of a custom anniversary dessert, something I'll always remember. A huge THANK YOU to Chef Miki and her team--incredibly talented, professional, and warm. I loved how open they were to us filming and taking photos. It's refreshing to see a new generation of chefs who bring both skill and approachability to the table--I really identified with that energy. They offer a small selection of beer, wine, and sake (not included in the omakase price), and at $90 per person, it's an incredible value for the level of quality, creativity, and service. Can't wait to come back. Once again, Chef Miki and team, THANK YOU!!!

Enjoyed the omakase at Fukurou so much! You really can't beat a $90 omakase We booked our reservation months in advance for a birthday celebration and found out the location was as a 5 minute walk from our hotel. Note that it's located in BuHo Cantina! A couple was 15 minutes late because they couldn't find the location. For the omakase, I really enjoyed every piece! The pacing was perfect and everything was very fresh. My favorites were the uni toast, wagyu and kanpachi. The service was also great! I told the chefs I may have a shellfish allergy and they changed the clam chawanmushi to a salmon roe chawanmushi which was delicious. They also went out their way to make my friends birthday special. Also look at how dedicated the chefs are to taking pictures! Would definitely come back for their omakase!

A hidden gem on the roof top of Buho Cantina. Fukurou delivers on quality, service, and takes you away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. Likely one of the most inexpensive Omakase meals at $90 pp, on the island but doesn't skimp on fine dining ingredients like Wagyu, uni, Ikura, snow crab, otoro. Two seatings a day with only eight sushi counter seats where you have an intimate view of the chef preparing each bite. 11 courses total, including the dessert. Upon the savory courses, the chef offered any diners that needed more bites the option to add ala cart. I was comfortably full so declined but later learned they were only $10 per additional bite. I certainly would have had another uni toast and Wagyu taco. Our entire group enjoyed dinner, and I would highly recommend. Make a reservation and go enjoy life with great company & food. 3 hour validated parking in the building garage.

Came here for dinner a few weeks ago and loved it. For just about $100 it was a great value! I especially loved the avocado uni toast! Each piece was very well done and the flavors paired very well. Not going to lie I recently had the uni at the IG popular spot with uni on top of the Kyoto style rice bowl...that uni can't compare to this Ambiance was nice too. It's hidden away in this back room of a bar. The host will lead you to the restaurant.

This restaurant is tucked away in Buho, so when you arrive, make sure to check in with the host or hostess. They'll call you once everything is set up and ready to go. This review is a bit late, so I don't remember every single dish that was served, but I do remember my favorites--the wagyu "taco" and the uni and ikura over rice. The sushi chef incorporates Mexican cooking techniques into each dish, but to be honest, it didn't really stand out to me. The first few bites were a little fishy, which wasn't the best first impression, but luckily, that didn't carry through the entire meal. Overall, it's not a bad spot for the price, but there weren't many standout dishes aside from the wagyu "taco." The portions also felt a bit small, so keep that in mind if you're expecting a more filling meal.

I was able to get a reservation for my friend and I last minute and I'm so glad I did! Fukurou was a bit confusing to get to so we walked around for a bit until we found Buho and then they directed us to Fukurou's entrance. The food is so good! We went through several courses and the quality of all the pieces were fantastic. Our favorite was the kan-buri so we opted to revisit that one in the end. The chawanmushi with crab roe was also really good too. Miki and her assistant were super kind and Miki explained each course before we were about to eat it. The place is super intimate so unfortunately the people you're seated with kind of matters. The group next to us was a bit loud and you could really hear every bit of their conversation. I highly recommend coming to Fukurou to try it out! Will be back if I can snag another reservation.

This place is FANTASTIC. As someone who spends a good amount of time in Japan, I can tell you these peeps have some serious game. It's omakase only. Only 8 seats, two seatings/night. Pictures tell the story...

10/10 amazing experience!! This was my first ever omakase and I absolutely loved it:) Both chefs had great energy, service, and enthusiasm for each course they made. Very intimate and small room setting. The location itself was pretty hard to find as it's located inside another restaurant! Besides that, I savored each dish made and at the very end I found myself quite content with the whole experience. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting to try omakase for the first time.

We attempted to make reservations, but they were completely booked until the following month. Since we didn't want to miss out, we decided to order their most popular tonkatsu meal to go instead. When we arrived, there were already a lot of people waiting outside. I went in to check on our order, and they let me know it would be another 10-15 minutes. Since it was a hot day, we wandered over to the crystal-themed shop next door while we waited. It had lots of interesting items to browse, although we ended up leaving empty handed. About 15 minutes later our order was ready, and we Ubered back to our hotel, which only took a few minutes. When we opened everything up, the portion felt a bit small for the price. The tonkatsu itself was tender, but for us it didn't quite live up to all the hype. I did appreciate that you can choose clam soup instead of the traditional miso soup, and there are different rice options as well, which is a nice touch. Overall, it was a good meal, but not one that completely wowed us given the price. It's possible the experience would have been different dining in, but with the long waitlist and the hot weather, takeout was the better choice for us.

Not only that, but I have to bring my significant other along to share in the deliciousness! I don't know how I'm just now talking about Marugame Udon. When I first came here, my friend and I decided to give it a try because we saw the longest line and wanted to see what all the hype was about. There was a couple in front of us who said they come here every time they visit Hawaiʻi and that it's a must-do stop on every trip. When you walk in, it's a small place. You can watch a team member washing the noodles and portioning them into bowls right in front of you. Then you choose your bowl size, small or large, and select your broth. After that, you get to choose from a variety of fried items and other à la carte options displayed on a warmer. Seating can be limited because of how busy this place gets. You line up to get your food, pay for it, grab your condiments, utensils, and a cup of water, then find a seat and enjoy. I've already been here twice, and after writing about my experience, I need to make a third visit happen very soon! There are not enough days off in a week to enjoy all of the amazing food on this island, but I'm going to do my best to experience as many places as I can. This place is totally worth the 45-minute commute from Wahiawa.

The first thing you'll notice when coming here (during a busy dinner time) is that it's really noisy, in a fun way!! The staff is super friendly! There are basically three options for seating.... booths that seat about 4 comfortably, tables on the bottom that can accommodate small or large groups, and bar seating. I've done them all and they are all comfortable. You'll find way more specials at dinner time. The food is really high quality, and super consistent too! My favorites are the yummy cucumber and the garlic cabbage salad, and the tempura and sushi/sashimi/donburi are all great too. Oh, and don't sleep on the hamachi kama. The tempura batter is light and airy and you have the option of tempura sauce, tare, or different kinds of salt. They're all really nice!! Great desserts and alcohol selection too!! Parking is a breeze next door at the old stadium mall, but warning that it may be pretty full at night. You can always find street parking along King Street though. I highly recommend this place for small and big parties alike!! But make reservations for dinnertime because walk-ins are probably not gonna happen.
