We both love the food served in Suntory although we never tried any of their whisky:-) Their Feb special menu is named Shunsai-Zen, like a mini kaiseki of about 16 bites. Beautifully done, tasty morsels. Next came a small hotpot of few slices of Washu beef+ veggies. I had to doggie bag it too full. Last came the dessert, okay. Hubs had the sashimi+ black cod, cod never fishy full of fatty flavour, set meal with rice and miso soup. I really enjoyed everything in this eatery, the servers' attentive/efficient attitude, subtle elegance displayed and the quality ingredients used in their dishes. The chefs put love in their cooking. Highly recommend we enjoyed the quiet ambiance as well.

I've been a fan of this place since my teenage years, and it still holds a special place in my heart. We went there for lunch today, and everything--from the food to the service--was fantastic. We started with Suntory Premium Malt's Draft, beautifully topped with a foam design that read "Hawaii," just like latte art. I ordered the Sashimi and Tempura Set, while my partner had the Teppanyaki Steak and Salmon Set with an upgrade to garlic fried rice. We also enjoyed hot sake and finished with strawberry daifuku for dessert. Every dish was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious--perfectly executed. I tend to take long breaks between visits, but this time I won't wait as long. We'll definitely be back soon for dinner, which I honestly can't remember the last time I had here. This is the most authentic Japanese restaurant on the island--and I say that as someone who's originally from Japan. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Itadakimasu... Thank you Nadine C for the lunch invite as not only I was excited to dine at Suntory since it's been forever back in my travel industry days it's always nice to have lunch with a friend. Restaurant Suntory is located in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center 3rd floor in building B which is in the middle so if you're lucky to grab parking on the 3rd floor it's an easy walk to the restaurant and we sat at the regular seating versus the teppan section which was a nice and cozy. They do have quite the selection for lunch including special lunch menu, hot pot lunch but with some of my allergies I decided to go with their "Donburi Lunch of the Day" which was Maguro...yum! Their teishoku comes complete with salad, tsukemono and miso soup and since mine was a donburi rice is already part of the meal and what a colorful stunning beauty it was, so fresh and flavorful the rice was cooked to perfection while the maguro so fresh and delicate the presentation is just a work of art down to the flower radish. The staff is very welcoming and kept coming back to check on us and we had a lovely relaxing lunch in the heart of Waikiki though once you're here you'd never know. Thank you!

I loved having lunch here! This and Kiki's Tempura might have been my favorite meals this time. I ordered the miso black cod kaiseki, which also came with a bowl with small pieces of sashimi (white fish and two different cuts of tuna), miso soup (red miso), pickles, and good quality Japanese rice. The miso black cod was well-seasoned and melt-in-your-mouth soft. The sashimi was very fresh and well-presented. It's $$$$ for dinner but lunch is more like $$-$$$. The miso black cod kaiseki was $36, which is actually a lot better priced than kaiseki sets in Seattle. We were seated in the teppanyaki area, so there is some smoke from the cooking. Next time I would probably book a reservation to get to sit in the non-teppanyaki areas of the restaurant, so the sashimi taste isn't cut through with teppanyaki smell. The non-teppanyaki areas also look very nice and have smaller table seating areas. The bathroom is very clean, too, and they have their own bathroom instead of a shared one for the plaza.

I had an absolutely unforgettable dining experience at Restaurant Suntory, and it easily stands out as one of the best meals I've had in Waikiki. From the moment you step inside, the ambiance feels serene and refined -- a calm, elegant escape from the busy Waikiki streets. The space is beautifully designed, balancing upscale elegance with a warm, welcoming feel. It's perfect for a special night out or a memorable vacation dinner. They made my husband feel so special on his birthday. The food was exceptional. The macadamia tofu was a standout -- silky, unique, and perfectly complemented by its delicate sauce. It was creative yet comforting, and uniquely island-inspired. The blackened cod was absolutely incredible -- buttery, flaky, and packed with rich flavor while still feeling light. It was cooked to perfection. We also ordered the field greens salad, which was fresh, vibrant, and thoughtfully balanced -- a simple dish elevated by high-quality ingredients and attention to detail. Service was outstanding -- attentive, polished, and genuinely warm. Our server offered great recommendations and paced the meal perfectly without ever making us feel rushed. I thought it was incredibly reasonably priced, particularly for the quality, atmosphere, and overall experience. If you're in Waikiki and looking for refined Japanese cuisine in an elegant setting, Restaurant Suntory is a must-visit. Already looking forward to coming back on our next trip to Oahu. P.S. they also have excellent hot sake!

Pretty pricy for meh food. It also seems to be quite snooty as a restaurant as we had a matcha drink in hand and was told we couldn't bring it in to drink it so we had to leave it in in the car. The waiter was nice and service was very good. We had the February special, Shun-Sai Zen which consisted of 16 small bites and a small hot pot for $48. It's technically for one person but that just seemed way too much for me so I shared it with my husband. It was okay and perhaps ordering a side dish in addition may have satisfied the both of us but I definitely wouldn't be able to eat it all by myself. Some of the small bites were things like potato salad, tofu, egg, a tiny spam musubi, corn, small pieces of fried fish, fried potato and poke. The hot pot was the best part of the meal. Everything looks pretty but the taste is average for a high price. Doubt if I'll be back

Service 5/5: Service was the star of the show. Our staff was very eloquent and professional and what is expected of fine dining. Kurt and efficient. Atmosphere 5/5: You're in a nice wood themed restaurant that is bright and airy. Great place for a lunch, but a little too bright for a dinner. If you are here late, you might just think it's morning outside. I would suggest dimmer glow lighting so it doesn't just feel like an upscale mall decor that is blasted with light. Very well decorated and showcases whiskey on the walls. Food 4/5: Food was on point. Delicious and executed to true Japanese style. I would suggest the sets. Even though they are expensive, it's still nice to try. Value 2/5: This is where I struggled to justify the cost. It is a luxury place in Waikiki, but feeling hungry when you are paying for the cost of three meals will damper the experience.

TEPPANYAKI REVIEW*** I will be honest - you're better off going elsewhere for the same AND CHEAPER experience. Sure the SUNTORY restaurant is beautiful and service is unmatched, but I would recommend steering clear of the teppan and opt for one of the other dining options. First of all, we got a chef who stared into our souls when he said his 5-10 words to us, was otherwise silent the entire time and it was just... unexpected. The food of course was fine, but nothing at least to us that was mind blowing and unique. This teppan experience MUST be catered towards non-U.S. folks since they seemed to be having the time of their lives?! They don't even onion volcano or anything! Love SUNTORY forever, but the teppan you can skip.

I cannot recommend Restaurant Suntory enough. As a local, I visited at least once a year and now living off island I make sure to make a reservation here whenever I am visiting home. I've tried their brunch menu, seasonal fixed menu, and their omakase. Japanese breakfast is always so good and they have a seasonal menu each time. They also occasionally have a seasonal fixed menu, which is what is pictured here. In my most recent visit, we did the omakase experience. You're brought to their back room for the experience and it's very intimate and service is great. The hospitality is the same as the hospitality you receive in Japan from having a place to put your bag to choosing a cute cup and coaster for your sake. Parking is available in the parking garage and they validate.

Our server was very nice and helpful - recommended us the summer highball and it was the best. The October special was STELLLAR - it was a shabu shabu version of sukiyaki, which was perfect for my preferences. Not too sweet. The mushroom and clam soup on the side honestly was p bland - could have went without it. The appetizer in the very beginning reminded me of the small plates in omakase meals - there were 3 tiny servings of unique bites. The bowl of assorted fish that came with the sukiyaki was so fresh and filling. Finally, the dessert was one of my favorites from all Japanese course meals - the sweet potato made the crème brûlée more nutty and thick. Overall a wonderful experience - would recommend if you're looking to stay close to Waikiki and want nicer Japanese. Parking validated

My husband stumbled upon this restaurant while looking for dinner spots for our short trip to Honolulu so I made a reservation a few weeks in advance. Reservations are made on OpenTable and the restaurant will send you a reminder a day or two before your reservation to confirm you are able to make it. We were seated promptly after arriving at the restaurant and we were about 10 minutes early for our lunch reservation at noon. Do note that their dinner prices are a lot more expensive if you do plan on dining at this restaurant. But their lunch specials are priced very affordable and offer a good amount of delicious food. We opted for the September shunsai-zen which is like a condensed version of a traditional kaiseki meal. Ambiance: upscale and modern. They have separate dining areas for those who pick teppanyaki vs a more traditional Japanese meal. It's a great spot to celebrate special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. The restaurant is set up like a fine dining spot. Service: 4/5. Order to food arrival time was minimal and we didn't have to wait too long in between courses. Our server provided some explanations of the food we were eating. Our water glasses were filled promptly when low without the need to ask someone. Food: 4.5/5. Presentation was excellent. Portion size was adequate given the price we paid. Food quality was more like a 4/5. Some of the dishes were just lukewarm like the rice. One of the tuna sashimi piece I had was a little fishy. My steamed chicken dish had quite a bit of chicken skin on it. The shunsai-zen does change monthly I believe so some months will have better ingredients than others depending on the seasonal availability. I noticed everyone who dined in nearby our table were Japanese so you know for sure the food is as authentic as it gets in the US. I'm impressed with the food overall and price for the meal was $46 per person excluding tax and tip which I find very reasonable. If I live close by, I will definitely come back once a week for their lunch specials. The food is worth it.

I've always wanted to try this place since its exterior is so fancy and prestige. We came here for lunch and were so impressed. We were quickly seated and were asked if we had any questions regarding the menu. I decided on the Tropical Cocktail and my boyfriend got the signature suntory beer. I didn't realize that the Tropical Cocktail had pineapple in it since it wasn't on the menu (i'm allergic) by our server Lani was so kind and asked if I wanted something else. I got the midori sour and nothing is more disappointing than getting a beautiful drink but it tastes awful. Thank goodness that didn't happen with this drink! I highly recommend the midori sour! It looks so beautiful in pictures and it's so refreshing. My boyfriend loved his beer and said it tasted amazing. I ordered the Assorted Tempura with the Cold Udon and my boyfriend got the Sukiyaki set. These were incredible deals for the amount and quality of food! The cold udon was so nice especially on a hot summer day! My boyfriend devoured the sukiyaki set (so fast that I didn't even get to try)! I'll be coming back to try the Teppanyaki side and more of the alcoholic drinks! I can't wait to try all of their cocktails!

If i'm in the teppanyaki area can i just order sushi?

Cold, clean, glistening with that dangerous little shimmer that tells you somebody in the supply chain actually cared. You can taste the quality immediately. The kind of quality that silences a table for half a second. And credit where it is due: almost everything I tried ranged from very good to genuinely great. But then the room begins speaking. And suddenly the spell breaks. The atmosphere feels like someone took a serious sushi counter, stripped away all sensuality, all elegance, all ritual, then dropped it inside a fluorescent island diner where exhausted civilians came to discuss parking validation and Costco receipts. It is the culinary equivalent of wearing a Rolex with orthopedic sneakers. The contradiction never stops humming beneath the experience. You sit there eating beautiful fish while surrounded by an energy that feels strangely... transactional. Heavy. Casual in the least flattering way. A room with no mystery. No seduction. No gravity. Like Zippy's accidentally wandered into the tuna trade and struck gold. And on an island like Oahu, where atmosphere matters almost as much as the fish itself that becomes a real problem. Because sushi is not merely consumption. It is theater.Restraint.Texture.Whispered precision. The best sushi spots on Oahu understand this instinctively. They understand that exceptional fish alone is not enough. You are paying for transportive experience. For mood. For elegance. For the feeling that the evening exists slightly outside ordinary life. At Mitch's, the fish reaches for Tokyo while the room drags you back toward a tired strip mall off the freeway. And then there's the crowd. Not evil people. Not rude people. Just an oddly low-rent energy orbiting genuinely premium seafood. The kind of room where one table is eating remarkable otoro while another feels one argument away from discussing used-car financing over soy sauce packets. It creates dissonance. Especially considering the prices. Because at those prices, you begin comparing the full experience not merely the fish quality and that is where Mitch's stumbles hard. There are multiple sushi spots across Oahu that equal or surpass the seafood while also delivering beauty, atmosphere, intimacy, and actual emotional texture. So what remains is this strange contradiction: Mitch's serves fish far above the dignity of its own ambience Which almost makes it fascinating. Would I be back - no . You can get same and better quality fish, much better vine, better part of town for the same Price.

The staff were friendly and very helpful with giving us recommendations. We ordered 3 appetizers and 2 entrees, and honestly it was too much food for us. We had leftovers for breakfast the next day! - For appetizers we got: Ulu Tots, Japanese Eggplant, and Corn Beignets. The Corn Beignets was the best. - For entree we got: Tomato Miso Black Cod and the Short Rib. Both were delicious and worth a try. Sad to see that this restaurant appears to be closing.

We ordered the deluxe platter, spicy dynamite cake, and chicken skewers. The food was so good! The deluxe platter had a combination of spicy Ahi rolls and some sashimi. Spicy dynamite cake was not too spicy, but had layers of rice, avocado, and spicy Ahi with sauce, and Nori wrappers on the side. Chicken skewers you can order them individually, in a set of three or five and we opted for three. Service was very friendly and attentive. We finished everything. The three items we ordered the cost was $60, adding tip and tax was around $75. The restaurant is very small. Seating only at the bar hence in the restaurant name. Definitely would like to come back and try some of the other options.

The Friday we went was the day of the heavy thunderstorm so a coworker had to bow out leaving just two of us. The storm must've made others skip going out also because there were only two other people dining. Everything we ordered was fresh with my favorites being the Pork cheek Cher siu nigiri and the Uni handroll. The Unagi handroll and Maguro w/creamy avocado handroll were both good as well. Joe really liked the Blue crab w/truffke kanimiso handroll as well. Other things we got were: Nigiri flight (5 piece sampler of there premium nigiri,) various nigiri...Aji, Kampachi, Tai, and Hamachi. The sampler was a good starting point while the others were ok. Service was attentive and friendly, waters refilled often. I'm kinda on the fence about the QR code ordering system, it was convenient to be able to order when you wanted and not having to wait for a server to come by but I did miss the interaction with the servers when ordering. It was a good experience, I'm always open to trying sushi places I haven't been to and some if the take out roll sets looked interesting, something I'd be back to try.

There were standouts and overall we loved the meal. A local id gets the 10% service fee removed which was nice. I would recommend the $150 lunch omakase - I don't think the $50 abalone dish was worth the upgrade.

Every piece of sushi was beautifully presented not overwhelming. You can really tell the chefs put a lot of thought into the balance of flavors and textures. One of my favorite bites was a sashimi piece topped with something that looked like finely grated cheese (not sure what it actually was), but it melted perfectly with the fish and added a really unique savory flavor. The chefs and staff also had a good sense of humor. At one point they served kinki fish and jokingly explained that the English translation sometimes gets called "idiot fish," which got everyone laughing at the counter. The omakase is definitely on the pricier side, but the quality, presentation, and overall experience made it very satisfying. If you're looking for a refined sushi experience with great service and beautifully crafted bites, this place is worth the splurge.
