Ramen has to be one of my favorite foods to eat period. I love all combinations of traditional Japanese ramen. So on a Monday when I was having Ramen cravings, we decided to go and try somewhere new. If you are a serious ramen or Japanese food eater you know that Monday's most places are closed. So this place was the only one that was open that was anywhere near close or looked good. I can def say that this Ramen is some of the best I ever had. You have to get the Red Dragon Ramen. I added in Corn, Chicken, Mushrooms, and extra Egg and noodles. And I got the second level spicy. The presentation of the Ramen was good enough in itself. But the taste and flavor was on the money. The only thing was that the sauce was kind of thick, which you don't normally find in traditional Ramen, but was still very good. Also just so everyone knows. The level 2 spicy is crazy. I thought since there were 3 that the 2 would be like moderate. But it was on fire. Also another side note: I got extra noodles, and I didn't really like how they put them in a separate bowl with no sauce or anything. I thought they should have given me a bigger bowl to fit all the noodles in the sauce. The place has a nice cool vibe to it. As soon as you walk in the cash register is there. You give your order then you take a number. So there really isn't any servers. I really like the wall art with a big Red Dragon with noodles on it lol. It was really cool. Not a huge fan of the chairs. I stand 6'3, so sitting down on those small chairs felt like I was at the gym trying dig low on squats lol. Overall this place is very good. The taste of the ramen is what won me over to this place and I can put aside the negatives I found. It's tasted like I was in japan eating ramen next to Naruto and Kakashi Sensei after a long hard mission (Insider For my anime fans). I'd recommend this place to anyone that's looking to try ramen and any ramen veterans! read more

This ramen spot is nestled in the perfect picturesque neighborhood in Upper Arlington . I love ramen and used to shamefully eat it monthly when I resided in DC lol! But last night was my first time trying ramen here in Columbus, OH. I spent a relaxing afternoon gazing at new exhibits at the museum so I crept up an appetite and looked through my Yelp bookmarks for a nearby eatery for dinner. I forgot I bookmarked this spot so I went. No exaggeration everything from the warm welcome/customer service, red dragon eating a bowl of ramen wall mural, ginger lemonade, green tea, my order of tam tam, cute little wooden table and colorful mini stools made the art of my slurp of noodles a FIVE star!!! I am very impressed with the quality of ramen and beverage options. The ginger lemonade is crack. It's 3 bucks but u can get as many refills as your belly can hold. I love this lil joint and don't mind driving across town to try it again very soon! read more

Having tried this location about three times hoping it would get better unfortunately it has not. The staff range from marginally helpful to borderline surly. The dining room itself is quite small and cramped, and the seating consists of stools. Not having a proper chair makes for a somewhat uncomfortable eating experience. Yes, in Tokyo ramen is often eaten on a quick break standing up. But, this is not Tokyo. :) it would be nicer to have more comfy seating. Tried several different dishes here including different ramens and chicken katsu curry. The ramen has typically been watery and either way too salty or way too overflavored with fish flakes. The curry was quite watery and fairly bland. The katsu was... ok. Crispy and fairly juicy but nothing special. So, overall I tried very hard to like Fukuryu but just couldn't. :( read more

Love there style, love the broth, love the noddles and it's so damn good. My only gripe is that the pork tasted like turkey or maybe it was, I dunno? The staff here is exceptional! So far coming in at number #2 in Columbus for Tonkatsu ramen... Straight up though, Edamame up at Easton has the best Tonkatsu in all of Columbus, keep in mind they're also a lil more pricey but your getting more food and it does taste better. Having traveled all throughout Asia and eaten wonderful ramen in tiny local Tokyo ramen houses we had high expectations for Fukuryu. We heard (and read) great things about this place and have now tried it twice and have concluded it's just not that great. This second visit was during restaurant week to try their special menu. The young lady who took our order was unenthusiastic at best. We asked a question about the menu, and she told us (fairly curtly) we were talking too soft (the place was not busy). She was also wearing what looked like pajama pants. Hmmm. The dining room is fairly small and cramped. There are no seats - only fairly uncomfortable stools. Maybe they want to discourage people from lingering? We had the special restaurant week menu as mentioned above. We got the salad and the pork belly rice to start. The salad was ok, but the rice had a very strong fish taste. They'd definitely over-seasoned it. Then we had the Shoyu Ramen and the chicken curry. The ramen was very so-so. It seemed like a small-ish portion, and there was not much meat. The broth had the same over-seasoned taste. The noodles were also over-cooked and tasted like packaged noodles. The curry was watery and fairly bland. The chicken katsu that came with the curry was fairly good, though. Lastly was the unique matcha parfait exclusive to restaurant week. This was soft serve ice cream with some mochi pieces and some dry wonton noodles (the same kind came on the salad) with some green tea syrup. This was... ok. Basically we found poor quality ramen in a very uncomfortable setting that seems to encourage you to eat and leave as soon as possible. Overall after trying Fukuryu Ramen twice we have decided it is markedly inferior to our favorite Meshikou Ramen. read more

I love love love this place! It's slightly expensive but tastes sooooo delicious. The first time I got the shoyu and my family members got the black dragon, miso, and the tonkotsu. We also got pork belly rice to share. The second time we got the pork belly buns and the Japanese fried chicken. The fried chicken was so crispy and the sauce that came with it was creamy. The pork belly rice had very tender pork. The pork buns weren't anything special though, not a lot of flavor so I don't think it's worth it. They have these little self seasonings including sesame seeds and spicy paste. I put wayyyy too much of it in my first ramen! Don't get me wrong, it was delicious but a little bit packs a huge punch. I recommend almost everything on the menu and can't wait to try the ice cream here! Each ramen tastes different and I want to try all of them eventually. read more

I am usually not a japanese ramen fan. I think it can a bit too greasy for me with each bite. I got the tam tam ramen hoping the spiciness will balance out the rich broth. I was right, i really liked the ramen and it was perfect with the freezing cold weather outside. I ordered with a side of edamame. The edamame tasted like just the ones you can buy from Sams club and u just throw it into the microwave to dethaw. Not all that great but good to snack before the meal. The only downside was that the ramen took a really long time so unless you ordered an appetizer you are just sitting there looking at your chopsticks. If you are with your friends, i guess it works out because you can have a pretty good conversation leading up to a good meal. read more

Fukuryu has a lot of character. The atmosphere is quite nice and there's wooden tables. The tables are kinda close together so it could be crazy with a crowd. I like the food. I tried out their tonkonksu ramen and the broth is really flavorful. I also like that each table has sesame seeds and a chili powder so you can add a kick to your food. The red dragon ramen (level 3) is good too. Whenever I first have it itakes me a few sips to get used to the heat. Let me preface this by saying I'm not an expert on Japanese cuisine, but I have eaten in Japan. That being said, this is the real deal. It's not an Americanized version of ramen. You go to the register, order, and they bring it to your table. They have a good choice of fountain drinks, lemonades and Japanese drinks. For the adults there are Sakis and beers to choose from as well. The Restaurant Week menu starts with a choice of two fried chicken appetizers or edamame for the herbivores. The Japanese Fried Chicken is fried to perfection with a crispy coating and a yuzu mayonnaise sauce that pairs perfectly. The Sweet Miso wings are fried and tossed in a sweet teriyaki glaze with good flavor that doesn't take the glory from the chicken. From the four entree choices I picked the Tonkotsu Zosui - a rice-based soup with pork belly, bamboo and some other stuff. The broth was tasty. The pork was finely chopped and almost disappeared into the soup after stirring it together. It needed a little spice, so I used the hot pepper oil on the table. You don't need much. Two small spoons had my nose running. I also tasted to Shoyu Ramen. The poor belly in it was shaved, which gave it a stronger presence in comparison. The noodle texture was not gummy or starchy. Good stuff. Of the three dessert choices I went wIth the Black Sesame Panna Cotta. It had the texture of a thick flan with a coconut whipped cream. I gave it the two bIte rule. I tried the Matcha Ice Cream which is strong in flavor. A flavor I am not personally fond of, but if you like matcha tea you will like it very matcha (see what I did there?). The Taiyaki Ice Cream would be my suggestion for the lesss adventurous diner. A strawberry tasting red bean paste served in a cone sandwich shaped like a fish. In all, very authentic Japanese food with great flavors, but I'd pass on the desserts. You won't need them anyway, as the entrees are big and filling. read more

This is my favorite ramen restaurant of ALL TIME. I didn't even know I liked ramen until going to a Japanese Festival in Atlanta, GA. Then I try Fukuryu Tam Tam Ramen and I wonder how many years I have been missing this delectable dish. The service is quick and efficient. However, if you show up at 8:45pm on a night they close at 9pm, just know they will remind you of when they close (almost like a gentle nudge out the door). This has not happened to me but I have seen some ramen loving folks turned away by the "we're closing soon" greeting. Too bad. The interior is natural, industrial, and modern all at the same time. Seating can accommodate 1-6ish people. The food is truly delicious. I have stuck to my old faithful; the Tam Tam Ramen sans pork add Panko chicken. My dinner companions have allotted me the opportunity to photograph their food and enjoy a tiny bite. Black Dragon, Red Dragon level 3 and 2. The gyoza is a great starter and I typically order it every time. The JFC is not a crowd pleaser, chicken is fairly dry and bland (it's probably ideal for kiddos that only eat chicken nuggets, ya feel me?). The green tea ice cream tastes just like a Starbucks green tea frappucino and the black sesame ice cream has a peanut butter taste. I hope you have a chance to give Fukuryu Ramen a try! read more

Neat little shop. Offers patio seating and a decent amount of indoor seating. You approach the registers where you order and the menu is right above. For starters, the prices are alright. Comparable to Meshikou's. The quality, not so much. I was surprised that we received our food very quick. That's usually an indicator that everything is already prepared, not a shocker for ramen restaurants. However, it was obvious when you take the first sip of the broth. It was bland and boring. I forget what my boyfriend ordered but it litterally tasted like dishwater and soy sauce. It was foul. The toppings seem very... Fresh? I got the Tam Tam, I wasn't sure how spicy it would be so I didn't get the Red Dragon. Where was the spice? The pork belly was unappetizing, it almost looked bleached. It was rubbery and lukewarm, just like the broth. It was missing flavor. The bao buns. I was really excited to try them! For a whopping $7, for two tiny buns, they were trash. The buns looked really shiny for some odd reason? Yeah I guess they were steamed but... why were they THAT shiny? I've never seen any like that, so I'm assuming they weren't fresh either. The pork belly was just as gross. The pickles were also... Odd. Now here's the kicker, if you look at the side cards on each table, if you post a picture on Instagram and tag them, you get free ice cream! Cute right? Wait until you try it, you'll delete the post immediately. Overall, for paying almost $25 (I tipped of course), I would never come here again. I have to say I am huge disappointed by this carry out order. We order the red dragon ramen and pork belly rice as entrees, the noodle itself it's ok, but the broth is just spicy and nothing else. The chicken wings we order has a lot of feathers on them, so gross! how hard would it be just to remove the feathers from the wings?? The marinated tofu has no flavor at all, the pork Gyoza is just average, not much Flovent for the fillings either. Overall, I think the best dish is the pork belly rice, don't think we would go back for a second visit. Please pay more attention to the details! Like feathers on the wings! read more

I've had over 130 bowls of ramen in Japan, the US, and Europe, having written short reviews of each one, so I have a good idea of what I'm talking about with ramen. This is an aggressively bad ramen. Avoid. Shoyu broth was pale, under-flavored, and lukewarm. Noodles were far worse. They're thin and hard in the Hakata-style, but mine were raw and undercooked, creating hard yet weirdly doughy noodles that are giving me gastric distress as I type. Menma bamboo shoots were thin, limp, and briney-oversoaked; they're not Japanese style but rather remind of the kind you get from bad Chinese takeout. The half-boiled egg is tiny and obviously days-old because the egg white was so stiff, and the yolk was watery rather than gooey, as if it had been injected into the egg's dimple as an afterthought. Pork-belly chashu is boilerplate for American ramen shops. But there are wood-ear mushrooms in this bowl for some odd reason; these mushrooms generally appear in thick tonkotsu broth, not shoyu since their purpose is to break up the fatty broth with a different-textured item. Sides could be good, to be fair. Cashier was friendly, but a member of the staff appeared to be having a mini-freakout over the number of towels needed to wipe something down. Numerous patrons were tackling their bowls with oversized metal forks, which I think speaks volumes. Now excuse me, I need to go to the bathroom again. read more

Loved it here! I usually don't choose to do ramen because it's a bit salty for me but my daughter loves ramen so I tried the Japanese curry with tonkatsu over rice it was amazing! And the ginger lemonade was very yummy and refreshing. Service was prompt & friendly, restaurant was clean, seemed very popular with the locals. It has indoor air conditioned seating (we were here in the summer) and covered outdoor seating. Not so great for seating large groups but smaller groups ok. My absolute favorite ramen place! I've had Ampersand and Meshikou--two very popular places--and they do not compare to the ramen here. If you're a vegetarian or vegan, they have a ramen bowl for you and it's DELICIOUS. The best flavored/seasoned ramen i've had and the tofu is actually seasoned as well--most places leave the tofu unseasoned. The matcha ice cream is also yummy! Yum! Of the many ramen places slowly popping up in Cbus, this one is well-priced AND well-executed. I had a veggie ramen and the JFC (Japanese Fried Chicken) on my first visit. First, the vegetarian ramen made with leeks was flavorful and on point on a rather cold, windy day. The egg was perfectly cooked and the wood ear mushrooms I added were a welcome addition. However, I was not a huge fan of the JFC. Though the chicken pieces appeared to be thigh meat, they were surprisingly tough. Also, the breading was super thick and honestly, not that flavorful. The best part was the tart mayo that accompanied the chicken. So, definitely not getting that again, which is sad, because I was eager to try the JFC bowl. I'm a huge fan of shoyu ramen, not that big of a fan of the price. $10.50 for a bowl of ramen is quite hefty, but it was worth it sometimes. Unfortunately, not everything on their menu was a hit for me and my family. Our party also ordered the veggie ramen which had a very strange tasting broth. The person that ordered it couldn't finish it because it was unpleasant. The chicken ramen, not sure if that's still on the menu, was not good at all either. I recommend sticking to the classics here: shoyu, tonkotsu, etc. I did like their soft serve ice cream though. It's a fun place to hang out and catch up with friends! The name is reminiscent of my teenage years of frustration playing Street Fighter II. The food is superb. Let me explain. I came here on a Saturday afternoon, it was busy with people from the yoga place next door. The place isn't big, there's not a great deal of tables, but some nice tall seats at the cooking station. It has a local feel. You sit down, place and pay for your order at the counter, you're given your little flashing device. The device will flash when it's ready, and you can either collect it, or in our case, it was bought to us. There's a nice selection of beers, Hitachini and Sapporo (neither of which can I spell, both of which I can happily drink) are in supply. Three taps and lots of bottles. I had a dark sake brewed one, my companion had a tap Sapporo, with two waters. Two bowls of ramen, some wings, two drinks and tip was a little under $45. The ramen was delicious. The broth was thick and creamy, the egg was perfect, noodles not overcooked and the spice level was as expected. I ordered the Tam Tam which is a pretty standard ramen to judge a place by. It was great. I spiced it up a little with some of the hot sauce they have on the tables - more places need this. The meat was impeccably cooked, next time I will go for the spicier one I think. The wings were small in size, but a nice amount in the portion and a beautiful citrusy spicy sauce on them. I think I'd definitely have these again. Loved it. Will be back. read more

Flavor overload. Came here over the weekend and tried the red dragon ramen as well as edamame for starters. The edamame was fresh and crunchy, and definitely enough for two. For the ramen, I opted for spice level 2 which was actually quite hot even from someone who loves Sichuan cuisine. The ramen was very good, as the noodles were on point and remained firm while still holding on to a lot of the texture of the soup. I will say the broth was a bit on the heavier side with lots of oil, so go with a different choice if you're looking for something light.
