I brought in a bridesmaid's dress to be altered on very short notice. They did a PHENOMENAL job taking in the dress and hemming the bottom to make it shorter. They allowed me to come in to test out the alterations and made additional changes as needed. There were no signs that the dress had been altered in any way and they even fixed a faulty clasp free-of-charge. They were extremely professional, detail-oriented and kind. If you need a tailor in Brooklyn, Fulani's your guy. First of all, Fulani himself is an amicable and funny guy. He's also intelligent and highly skilled. These qualities make business with him easy peasy since you can easily talk over ideas, needs and such. A slight accent barrier, but easily decipherable after 5 min. I had to get some unusual work done to a rain coat with loose satin fabric lining the interior and he easily understood and executed what i wanted to do with it in order to have it be more structured internally. Secondly, he's a frikkin' magician. He's so skilled at what he does that all he needs are his eyes and a mark or two to understand what to do where. This made me a bit uneasy at first considering this was my first time with him and I needed a lot of work done, but all of my items came back perfect. He even offered to make further alterations if i found anything unsatisfactory, after I tried it all on in store after completion. The man takes pride in his work and loves every minute of it. Thirdly, I wouldn't say he was pricey, but I wouldn't say he was cheap either. A little bit higher than I'm used to from my tailor in Jersey, but not by much at all. I had 6 pairs of pants (5 khaki, 1 dress) hemmed and narrowed at the leg openings, a vest that was ripped at a seam restitched, and the rather unusual rain coat fix which was probably just a quick stitch around each sleeve; all of which came out to about 180. Really not too bad for a big job and well worth every penny. He doesn't take AMEX which kind of disheartened me at first, but that's alright. Last couple points. Because of the large amount of work I needed done, he did take about a week and a half to get it done. While in conversation though, he mentioned having other clients more pressed for time and myself not exactly needing the work in a rush, he obviously prioritized. Which is great because now I see that if I needed quick work, he'd be the guy to go to. I'll test that and post another time. Without a doubt, I'm revisiting Fulani for any work on my apparel. I came here to get my bridesmaid's dress altered-- it was three or four sizes too big, and they did a great job sizing it down to fit me. Turnaround was prompt and the service was so friendly. Fulani's a great guy, but I will not be returning...after three separate experiences with him and our tailoring NEVER being ready on time, this is the last straw...dropped off a pair of men's pants and one ladies' dress to be hemmed three weeks ago...after going on two occasions after the date that we were told they'd be ready, (paying for parking, getting cash out to pay, etc) they STILL were not done--3 weeks later. Received a call this am saying that the clothes were FINALLY ready to be picked up (3 weeks later), and when I went to pick them up, they were nowhere to be found. The tailor and I searched high and low for 25 minutes, in the showroom and in the back of the shop, going through PILES of peoples' clothing strewn about (on the floor, in hoarding-esque piles, etc), and finally found my lace dress and men's white pants on the filthy floor...great, now they need to be pressed and cleaned, thank you very much. $32 dollars later for this?? NOT worth the hassle and frustration in my book...sorry Fulani, we won't be back and won't be spreading great cheer about your place on Yelp, after-all. read more

Fulani Tailor is the best in New York! I've been living in NYC for 7 years and just stumbled upon Fulani. I've been through many so-so alteration shops and can attest that this is the best. The owner is great! I came to him and needed a bridesmaid dress and rehearsal dinner dress altered for a wedding in less than a week. He had everything altered perfectly just in time for my friend's wedding. The prices are reasonable and the owner is very friendly and accommodating. I had high hopes for this place after reading all these gleaming reviews on yelp. I had not noticed the one star reviews upon first researching, and I am afraid I must add mine to that pile.. More on piles in a second. Hopefully I will not be added to the many weeks of waiting as others have, but I dropped my pants there for a simple hemming wednesday and was told they'd be done friday morning, I went this morning, Saturday, to pick them up and they were nowhere to be found, we had to dig through piles of wrinkled and mistreated clothing to finally find them, and lo and behold they were not finished, not even started. I've been told they will be done at 4pm today. I have a wedding tomorrow, the pants were extremely wrinkled so now I have to get them pressed and most likely laundered, brand new pants and these "tailors" had them on a pile on the floor. read more

So, I've heard some positive things about this place. Had my outfit all planned for my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary ceremony and then my wife decides to change to a different outfit. So i needed a different look. Already had a different suit, but needed it hemmed and taken in, in a jiffy. Decided to call up AB. Told me he was real busy and perhaps couldn't get it done for me in 1 day. I said ok no worries, he wouldn't let me hang up. Told me to come down anyway. He did it in a few hours. Excellent service. Excellent work. And he makes custom clothes!!!!! He now has become my only tailor, off of this one visit. And I will be buying some custom suits from him soon. This guy is a pro. My hubs took his wedding suit-pants there to be tailored, and they came back fitting perfectly. This place is also very efficient - Within 10 minutes of walking in the door, my husband had tried the pants on, the guy had made all the chalk-mark alteration suggestions, and we were on our way. Major bonus points because the tailor even suggested and was able to make the pant legs thinner/more flattering - not just shorten the hem. He's the real deal. Best tailor period. Always does the job perfectly. Has even fixed a couple of hems on my dresses that were done wrong by previous so called "tailors". He's been a miracle worker for a couple of my dresses, complicated hems kept totally intact. I swear this guy can do and fix anything. I take all of my valuable pieces that can't be screwed up by the lady doing a dozen hems a minute in the window in the drycleaning window. Love this place! The owner is sooo nice. I got totally screwed over by the horrible woman who used to own a tailoring shop down the street (she has since closed so don't worry about it). She actually made the fit worse. So I brought my wool winter coat to Fulani to fix the disaster she left behind. He knew exactly who I was talking about once I started to share my story, felt bad for me, and for less money than I paid the original woman, undid/fixed all of her work, and tailored the coat as it was supposed to be done in the first place. Also, I was leaving to go out of town at the end of the week, so he finished all of the work within a day or two so I could come in and try it on again before leaving town. The coat fits very well and he listened to what I wanted and how I wanted it to fit, which is surprisingly not a quality found in all tailors. My coat was saved, and it's clear he really cares about his customers and the level of service he provides to the neighborhood. read more

AB is not only a fantastic guy, as said by many here, but he is an excellent tailor, and someone who knows his customers and his suits. I came here to get several suits sized down, and AB did a phenomenal job of altering pants and suit jackets to fit, and in the process, saving me a lot of money. AB is the BEST!!!! Not only does he have the nicest most personable attitude, he is very professional. I needed my bridesmaid dress altered within two days. I came in the shop very pessimistic and nervous bc every other tailor I went to told me this could not be done. I've had several pieces worked on by AB and I can't complain. The majority of work has been done on shirts, i have a 15.5 neck and 28 waist with an athletic build so I need my shirts extremely tapered to avoid a "bagging" look over my belt. AB has been great a pinching the shirts. I would give Fulani 5 stars, but there have been times where the clothes have taken longer than estimated and I've shown up without the pieces being ready. Anyway, I recommend AB's work for alteration. He does a great job and is will more than willing to make changes if you are unhappy. read more

Avoid at all costs. I currently have $250 worth of shirts held hostage at this place because the guy behind the desk refuses to believe I paid for the tailoring when dropped the shirts off. Did not see the quality of the tailoring yet, but did see that my shirts were tied together and dirty (I'd dropped them off after picking them up from the cleaners). Will not be coming back, and will report to the better business bureau if I don't get my clothes back today. Oh, did I mention I dropped my shirts off 2 weeks ago? Just a quick edit here. The lovely desk manager gave me a call a few hours ago to let me know that my shirts were finally vouched for (hello? receipts? hello???). I tried them on at home and had my girlfriend look to check if they did a good job as I could probably not hold my tongue in the store. To my dismay, she found TONS of ERRORS. It was almost as if the guy argued with me for twenty minutes to get another hour or two to actually finish my shirts. Well now that ALL of my shirts are completely ruined (seams are crooked, resewn several times with visible lines, random grease stain that showed up on a shirt, too tight, sleeves weren't even fixed as I REQUESTED AND PAID FOR) its time to go shirt shopping. My advice? STAY FAR FAR AWAY! Especially if you have nice quality shirts. For shame. Second update. Trying to call to complain. I used to go to the "local guy" and never knew what quality was until I walked in to Fulani. I had some pants hemmed at a local guy who cut them all too short. $600 out the window. They could not be lengthened. I decided to find a good review on Yelp for my new suits because I did not want to throw away money again. Funali hemmed 3 pairs of pants for me. It was $15 a pair which was not cheap but worth every penny and then some. He never cut the excess fabric. He just folded it in and stitched it inside. There are not marks on the outside of the pants of his stitching. I was amazed. The sizing was also perfect. All three pair were done precisely. I don't know why anyone would go to a "local guy" unless Fulani is your local guy. read more

I don't go to too many tailors but I read about this guy from another review an I was not disappointed...I bout a suit from beacons closet that was way to big...the owner pretty much constructed this huge suit to fit like a glove...I would recommend him to anyone...he also does custom suits as well...I think that will be the next route for me... read more

Blown away by the service and quality of the end product. Needed a suit tailored in 4 days, thought it wasn't going to happen. No only did it happen, every step was handled with care, expertise and precision. Honestly Fulani treated me like family, made me comfortable (so important in a tailoring session) explained every part of the tailoring process, made recommendations and ultimately helped turn an off the rack suit looking straight fire. The tailors at Fulani are exceptional. I've had lots of bad experiences with other tailors in the neighborhood, but the folks at Fulani are just great. I mean, the tailors there turned my baggy old suit into a fitted modern style; it was a new suit for less than $100. I highly recommend them. I go there to get my shirts, pants, and suits altered. They make custom suits too, but I haven't tried that service yet. One caveat: they may not be the greatest if you're in a rush. read more

I took a pair of kids shorts(!) with a design I absolutely loved in to Fulani's, and he did a GREAT job of adding material between the seams and to the waist so that I could actually fit into them. The attention to perfection was really something I hadn't experienced previously with a tailor. I'm a skinny build (5'10", 150lbs), and it's hard to find well-fitting slimmer pants and blazers OTR. But Mr. Fulani did a perfect job. I had two blazers and 4 pants that were altered. And I mean seriously altered- he basically made a 36R jacket look like a 34S, and it now fits me like a glove and no one would know it was tailored. I was also really happy with how one of my pants that needed tappering turned out- it now looks like its custom fit. I'm definitely going back with more items in the future. It's not necessarily cheap, though for the value, it's really worth it. It also helps that Mr. Fulani is a pretty jovial guy and really cares that your clothes look great on you. Gotta love a man who respects the threads the way he does. read more
