I guess it would be the well stocked kitchen, spacious grounds and wonderful aroma emanating from the numerous rose bushes that line the lawn area - oh, and the indoor pool, an adjacent large hot tub, and fire pit at which you can mingle with newly acquired friends. Leaving the best for last: The host and hostess are amazing! They accommodated our every need, made us feel at home, and even provided us with S'mores for the fire pit one evening. Yumm! It is a very short walk to Boulevard park which is a beautiful place to watch the sunset. The owner Sharon is thoughtful and helpful and keeps the rooms incredibly clean and nicely appointed. The hot springs are my favorite part and the main reason I came back. My friends and I booked a private soak ($150 for 1.5 hours), which was well worth it. If you stay overnight, you can also do a group soak for $20. The hot springs are clothing optional, and during the group soak most people were nude. It was a bit crowded, but still fun and a memorable experience -- especially if you're open to something new. The room itself was a little cold, but thankfully it had a wood-fired stove (and one of us actually knew how to use it). Beds were comfy, and the bathrooms are a short walk away since they aren't in the rooms. Overall, such a special place -- I'd definitely come back again.

Betty has thought of virtually everything a traveler could need and guests get free reign of the upstairs during their stay. I love that Betty welcomes people to take home unfinished books from her library - "books are meant to be read, not sit on a shelf," she says. Breakfast was made at the prearranged time convenient for us (so appreciated!) and was delicious and abundant. She sat and chatted with us during breakfast and is so personable. We had to depart on a jet plane that afternoon after our 4-day trip to the Evergreen State and had a few bottles of wine that we hadn't enjoyed so I offered them to Betty and she even suggested she could take their value off our bill, although I refused because they were a gift to her for our lovely stay. Would be happy to return to Viewmont Manor if we ever find ourselves back in Bellingham!

It is also very close to Richmond in Canada where we love to go for good Cantonese food. This last trip was the second time we managed to book a presidential suite with a private hot tub in the balcony. The unit is a bit dated, but spacious and comfortable. It's also very good to know that they send service personnel to check the hot tub every other day. The resort also has clamming equipment that can be borrowed. We got a lot of huge cockles and horse clams on the beach in the Birch Bay State Park which is about a mile away. We always have a great time at this resort.

This is the closest WorldMark to the U.S. Canada Border in Blaine, which is about 6.5 miles drive from the resort. We arrived around 1:00a, check-in was fast and we were given our key cards and parking pass. As all of WorldMark by Wyndham resorts the unit was clean with a fully-equipped kitchen including a microwave, refrigerator, and stovetop along with a separate living area. We had a studio unit (only one available at time of booking) and our room was on the 5th floor. As always during our trips we never get to enjoy the hotel amenities (pool, recreation area, etc) since we always start our day out early and arrive back late. Can't waste any adventure time while on vacation. For our last evening we walked across the street to Bay Breeze Restaurant & Bar. Alice Bay is only a couple hours from Seatac but feels like you could be in Alaska. Set in the gorgeous but humble Skagit Valley, it is blessed with serene Bay views, visits from herons, rocky beaches and solitude. Plenty of solitude. The proprietors are salt of the earth and appear only as much is necessary - or as much as you'd like. The digs are simple but spacious. But private is pretty much the m.o. here. With only one guest quarters (with two queens), it's just right for a couple or small family. I'll keep the rest for (your) discovery and not spoil it. It's a nice place, completely affordable, and is the perfect location to get away and get some seaweed stuck in your toes...
