    Louisville Orchestra - Orchestra stage

    Louisville Orchestra

    (14 reviews)

    West Main, Downtown

Louisville Orchestra is a Louisville treasure!…read more We are so lucky to have it as well as music director Teddy Abrams here. I recently attended "Sounds of a New Nation," which involved such a thoughtful program celebrating the founding of this country. It included Schuman's "New England Triptych," Ives' "New England Holiday" and Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 9, a work composed the same year the U.S. declared independence. And Abrams seemed so excited to bring this to life. His joy is infectious! Most recently, we brought our kids to see the "OrKIDStra" program -- their first orchestra experience. They loved it! Next we're excited to see "Rhapsody in Blue." Other points of pride: * The LO became the first orchestra to create its own record label, First Edition Records. * It was one of the only orchestras to stay active during COVID by pioneering safe in-person and virtual performances. * It won its first-ever Grammy Award in February 2024 for Best Classical Instrumental Solo. * In 2023, the LO performed a historic, world-premiere concert inside Mammoth Cave National Park featuring world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma. There's nothing like seeing beautiful, thoughtful music performed live, and the Louisville Orchestra is among the best.

Very excited to go to this event every year or as long as they have it…read more Teddy Abram is so masterful and creative. It nice to be enriched by the orchestra and the selection and adaptation of all kinds of genres into their performances. America Place At River Ridge is such good sponsors for this free event holding "Play America " Bringing classical and popular music with family fun (food trucks, activities) across the river to Southern Indiana, showcasing their commitment to making music accessible beyond the main concert hall. The event is well run and very organized with parking and traffic flow. They provide some much needed bit of classical music. The organizers do a great job pulling this together. If you get the chance in July to attend take advantage.

As music venues go, the Monarch sits somewhere between Zanzibar…read moreor Whirling Tiger and hearing a show in someone's living room, which is to say that there isn't going to be a bad seat, with the important caveat that there are only so many seats. They call their main stage area a "listening room" and urge patrons to silence their devices. The gist here is that they want to promote an environment where people are really focused on the music being played, without distractions. And if for whatever reason you're here to see a show or take part an event that is in the courtyard in back, that space is also very inviting and well laid out. Beyond these simple facts, if you come here you'll also notice some other unusual aspects that will hint at the fact that you're not in a normal concert venue. For one thing, there are no beverage sales -- it's entirely BYOB. And if you want to bring in your own snack too, that's kosher. I can't say I grasp everything about the place, but the reason why it's called a "music & arts community" is because this operation is run by a nonprofit, and they prefer to be in the business of serving artists rather than selling drinks. For the true night owls, or for local musicians, there is a membership option but almost any event is open to the public too (perhaps at a slightly higher entry price). Some events are ticketed, others are free or have "suggested donation" attached. And maybe best of all, none of the proceeds go to Ticketmaster.

The Monarch is a beautiful space - like a friend's living room &/or the cozy cafe you remember haunting from your college days. its a space for songwriters, performers & all who love music, the arts & want to support their talent. check it out! you'll be very happy you did!

The Music Concierge - Group shot at The Madison

    The Music Concierge

Our experience with William and The Music Concierge was grossly unprofessional and disappointing…read morefrom the beginning to the end. We booked The Music Concierge in October of 2022 (and paid in full) for our wedding in April 2023. We were assigned a DJ named Matt, and were excited because of all the services offered, along with "unlimited phone consultations". We waited for some time to hear from Matt, and didn't think much of it because we had so much time. However, a couple months before our event, we started reaching out to our DJ Matt and never heard anything back - multiple emails and phone calls went unanswered. We finally managed to reach out to William, the owner of the company, who was apparently as mystified as we were and had no idea Matt had not been communicating with us (great oversight!) and informed me that this particular DJ is a singer in a band that was on tour... cool story. William said all the right words and apologies, but we got the feeling that he really couldn't care less. He halfheartedly suggested a competitor and tried to connect us with them, but this suggested person has done 3 weddings in the past (according to the guy's Facebook), so suffice it to say we didn't trust The Music Concierge, William, or anyone he recommended (especially someone so new). This was a WEEK before our wedding date. A. WEEK. OUT. We ended up reaching out to some friends and our wedding coordinator, who managed to find us a very reputable replacement for only a couple bucks more. We booked, had the contract, and paid in the space of 24 hours (and on a Saturday!). The best part of the interaction with William and The Music Concierge was how fast he issued our full refund. I know good companies can make mistakes like this, but we were completely let down by these folks, and didn't feel they really wanted to make it right. Will never use or recommend this company ever again, and if you are in the market for a DJ, I would give some serious second thoughts before booking with The Music Concierge. They put us in a really bad position, and there are many other reputable companies out there.
