All seating is foldable chairs and fairly roomy for a venue. Half of the seating is covered along with the stage and other seats are exposed. The space felt so clean and well maintained. They offered concessions in the main area and accepted cash and card. During larger events they have other stands for drinks. Bathrooms were large and clean. Also appreciated the large parking lot, free of charge.

It was attended by all ages and the venue was only about 1/2 full. Plenty of parking for this event. Sound system was fine. We were seated under the cover of the amphitheater roof in the first row of the middle section, so views were fine (photos included which will show perspective).

It started by showing my ID to get a wristband, then scanning my ticket and going through security. I enjoyed the concert I went to - the venue was loud, lighting was good, and there was some outdoor space (with a second place to order drinks.) Close to the stage, people were dancing, moshing, and having a great time. In the back, there was room to enjoy with a little more space. My one gripe, I KNOW that alcoholic drinks at all concerts and venues will be overpriced but the only option for water was an $8 can. Just be aware if you plan to hydrate!

The cons - (not their fault, no stars taken) - I struggle to find a selection of great meal options pre-show right now in this theater district part of downtown. It was a Sunday afternoon. Upon arrival there were red velvet ropes going into the venue with our pictures displayed on placards, a nice touch. We used the upstairs space, the Loft which has 2 seat high top tables, 8 top round tables, couch settings for 6 to 8 folks scattered throughout the space. It probably can accommodate 100 to 120 folks. It is so professionally decorated with beautiful flower arrangements, tableclothes, gold placemats and creative, fun wall decor. We were able to hook our phone, with our playlist to their speakers via Bluetooth. The space is elegant and could not be more perfect for a festive gathering. We opted to use one of their caterers who offered a charcuterie board in addition to a selection of 4 additional appetizers. The charcuterie board included the following: Watermelon, Strawberries, Pineapple, Grapes Prosciutto, Pepperoni Broccoli, Carrots, Celery. Gherkins, Cucumbers Olives, Ranch, Fruit Dip Vegetable, Ham and Turkey Pinwheels Chicken Salad in Miniature Cups W/ Crackers Pepperjack Cheese, Smoked Gouda, Extra Sharp Cheddar, and Colby Jack Cheese Assorted crackers. We opted for meatballs, Benedictine sandwiches, quiche and turkey sliders as our 4 appetizers in assition to the charcuterie selections. The food was good. Couple of issues, the food was late being put out, they were still setting it up when our guest started arriving. I paid for food for 100 people, we had 80 guests and there was not much food leftover. If all 100 guest would have attended I fear we would have run out of food and that was disappointing. We were also told there would be a microphone for our use but it was not working and not available for our use. My daughter did the planning but it was pretty straight forward. We attended the monthly Moth StorySlam hosted here at Headliners by our local public radio station…read more These occur regularly usually on the 4th Tuesday and we purchased our tickets online, although a limited number might be available at the door for an increased price. Ten storytellers have 5 minutes on stage to address the topic of the evening. Tonight's topic was "Revenge" with many inspirational stories referencing ultimately "choosing peace". The highlight of the show was getting to see local comedian, Mack Dryden, perform his unique wry schtick in unparalleled storytelling style. He brought down the house with his saga of battling squirrels while living in California. The venue has a small parking lot in front of the building, a larger parking area next to the property, and large amounts of free on street parking along Lexington Road and the surrounding side streets. Doors opened and lines moved quickly through security for bag checks, ticket scanning, and locating a seat. There were rows of folding chairs in front of the stage as well as 2 to 4 seat small pub tables placed along the walls. There is also an overhead balcony viewing area with tables and chairs. We did notice an odor in the building that was a bit offputting at first and then I suppose we eventually became nose-blind. It was a hint of a musty, urine, spilled beer, dive bar mix. We also exited the building around 10:30 PM following the show and were slammed with the familiar Butchertown pig slaughterhouse odor and almost ran to our cars to make our escape. Restroom was large, clean, and fully stocked. Large bar area near the back of the room. Easily able to see the stage from any vantage point in the large space. Audio was fine. Would love to return here for future events, including The Moth.

I attended a Moth storytelling event at Headliners, and overall it was a good experience, but I'm…read moregiving it four stars because of the parking situation. I have accessibility needs, and when I arrived they told me I'd have to pay $5 cash to park (which I didnt have) in a handicapped spot. It felt frustrating, especially since I drove myself and couldn't just park farther away and walk. After some discussion (thankfully, my friend spoke up), they waived the fee, but it seems like that's the default expectation, which isn't ideal for people with mobility challenges. Also, the venue itself isn't wheelchair accessible, so that's something to keep in mind. That said, the event itself was fantastic. You should definitely arrive early because most of the seating is on one level, and if someone tall sits in front of you, you might struggle to see. There is a balcony area for extra seating, though. The bar is on the pricey side--a soft drink in a 12 oz cup is about $3--but they do offer some alcoholic beverage specials. Overall, I love the storytelling events and will probably keep going, but I hope they improve their accessibility policies in the future

You have to walk up a flight of steps to get in there and it has a very speakeasy-of-the-21st-century-vibe if you know what I'm saying. There are couches and chairs everywhere for folks to lounge in, catch up with friends and chill out with a great drink. The night we went they had a live band playing off on the other side of the bar that provided a nice bit of ambience. We didn't watch them as we were chilling near the couches, but they were good and I can totally see coming here to see a band play any day of the week. After taking a stroll around the area to check everything out, we went to the bar and ordered us a drink. The bartender was super funny and cool. Me and Scott both ordered a Manhattan because we're bourbon drinkers and love a good one. It wasn't the speediest drink that I've ever had come out to me, however when it came out and I took a drink. Oh lord! It was almost as good as the one I got at Market Place, almost! It was amazing. Me and Scott both loved it and I really really really want another one, right now! Through and through this place is the bomb. It's a totally different scene than downstairs where Butchertown Pizza Hall is and a different vibe than the football and beer. Grab some grub downstairs and then head upstairs for a little nightcap before heading home. You won't regret it a 100% promise you!

This only opened recently, and seems to already be catching on. There were quite a few people crowded around the bar, at tables or in the comfy seats around the space. There's not much light, so we had to use our phones to see the cocktail menu. We had the Gardener ($10), a boozy mix of liquor, cherries, orange bitters and rosemary.

Scanning tickets and passing through metal detectors and the bag search procedures were speedy. When we entered the venue, an usher asked if we'd like to be upgraded to orchestra level and we ended up in Row R (photos and videos depicting the view are included with this review). The location of these seats was terrific with regard to visual and audio. Seating was comfortable and had armrests. The performance was fantastic. We felt so fortunate to have a chance to see him play and his band is also wonderful. This was a perfect venue to host this show. Restrooms were clean and well stocked. Bar concessions are available. Exiting the building required a bit of patience due to patrons' traffic flow bottlenecks nearing the lobby. Looking forward to future events at this venue.

I was at the Louisville Ballet's spring recital for their youth programs this afternoon. Probably…read more700 parents, grandparents, siblings and other family and friends come to see 4 to 18 year old dancers perform, most sporting flower bouquets for "Their" dancer. There is some street parking but the garage is located directly behind the theater with a catwalk on the second level that takes you directly into the theater. I equated the 3-4 year old little girl dance routines to t-ball for little boys. Most don't have a clue about their routine but still get dressed up, head out on stage and dance to their hearts content. Like T-ball it's pretty funny. Then the older girls who probably started out as toddlers and have persevered through years of practice are pretty impressive. Costumes are fun, good music and an excited audience to see your person on stage at the Brown theater. Viewing the building itself is worth a visit. They typically have a bar or two set up but not for this matinee. They were selling food, chips, candy, sodas and bottled water, hot pretzels, hot dogs, etc. But what I don't get is you can't take the food inside the theater. So why sell it? Drinks are allowed inside the theater. Just a cool theater, fun afternoon for family and the dancers.

We loved the experience. It's like a warehouse space which has been converted into a music venue and avant garde art space. Everywhere you look there is some funky feast for the eyes. I was impressed by their right-in-your-face signage at every entrance affirming their acceptance of marginalized demographics. Each door bears a sign stating that racism, homophobia and the like will not be tolerated in the establishment, leaving no room for doubt. I was so impressed and encouraged by that immediate assurance that this place shares our values. It takes bravery to lead with a stance that will likely drive some business away in order to stand on principles and I admire it. There isn't much seating. There is a nice stage with pro sound and lighting. Most of the area in front of the stage is open floor. Some interesting bench style seating on either side of the space and a few tables and chairs in the back. Drinks are not cheap by any means but competitive with other similar venues in the area. No food is served but they did have a popcorn machine going. Service was fair for a large crowd. You have to have an open mind to attend Portal. They were holding a "furry rave" there directly after the concert and at a point the venue began to fill up with young people dressed in some interesting and elaborate costumes of that variety. So you should be prepared to share space with people in alternative lifestyles. I love that this establishment provides a safe space for people that some don't understand or accept. Portal hosts lots of cool events like yoga classes, writer's nights, art shows etc. We will definitely go back. It's easier for me to show you than explain it so please refer to accompanying photos.
