I have been coming here almost a year now. I am down almost 30lbs. Stranger than I've ever been. My knee pain is gone and even though the gym was outside all summer because of construction it was still amazing!! They have made so many accommodations to make us comfortable out there and I think I'm going to be sad when we can go workout inside again haha Every employee is so nice and friendly and I am so thankful to have found this place. I have been member of the Fullerton YMCA for years. I am retired so I have flexibility when I can go. Sometimes the morning is packed as different classes overlap. This makes it a challenge to park. However, after noon, parking is no longer an issue. I like going after noon to work out as it is rarely crowded and you can easily complete your workout without having to wait. We really like going to the Fullerton YMCA and if you have young kids, it's one of the few places that has a dedicated daycare (called Kidzone) where someone watches your kids. I know in the past (and maybe they still do) some gyms such as 24 Hour Fitness or LA Fitness had daycare on site, but this one is so much better than the daycares I saw in those gyms since this whole facility is really designed for families. In addition to the really good daycare, they also have a lot of free classes for youth, such as karate and jazz. But they also have paid classes you can sign up for as well, such as youth basketball or soccer, or even take swim lessons at their swimming pool. Finally, I really like the clientele as well. It's never too busy and you rarely see any "meatheads" or any "riff raff" but maybe it's because this gym seems to cater to families. Anyway, the staff is always helpful and the facility is always clean. As someone else mentioned, you can even have your child's birthday party here if you wanted to. It's not the cheapest membership, especially if you compare it to Planet Fitness or someplace else, but you also get way more with this membership than you would at those cheaper gyms. read more

It's so unfortunate that a youth program would be so unwilling to do the footwork to ensure players feel happy and comfortable. My daughter was going on her second season of volleyball w the Y and had a horrible accident where she was extremely injured. When she came back the only thing requested was if she could be on the same team as her friend. Getting back into physical activity has been a challenge to say the least. Jamie who runs the program not only did not make this change but was rude and unwilling to budge even after knowing her circumstances. He would rather refund the money for the season than do a simple switch. We will not return and the icing on the cake is my daughter is beyond sad after all this. The Fullerton YMCA is an awesome place to come and work out. The staff at the front desk are awesome. They are helping to answer questions and signing people up for classes. Alyssa , Shantal and Madison just to name a few. Also, the entire staff does a great job! Jordan Garcia got promoted to executive Director. He used to teach Aqua Fit class and he ran the circuit. Basically working on core skills. We really miss him teaching. The other Aqua Fit teachers have their own program, whether it be using the Agua weights and noodles. Or doing aqua yoga. Melanie, Kenny, Lexi, Angie, Irene, and Katy all do a great class, but they have such unique styles. I definitely would. Recommend signing up for an agua fit class! read more

A hidden gem! Great place for kids. I did a lot of research and tours of gyms before landing on this one. We drive 15-20 minutes just to come here instead of LA fitness which is conveniently right by my house because the Kids Zone is the best one I have seen. It has a great indoor space that is set up more like a preschool class with lots of tables, toys& books. The kids sometimes will paint and have hands on activities. There is also an outdoor space where the kids can ride bikes or play basketball. Also, the kids zone is very well staffed with 2-3 employees who seem way more mature & skilled then the typical teenage aged staff at Franchise gyms. The gym & entire facility seems to be very clean and the machines seem to be fairly new and in great condition. I love that they provide plenty of cleaning supplies for their clientele to help keep things clean. I never feel like I can't get on a machine or get the weights I need, it never seems to be over crowded which I absolutely love. The staff has been nice, I am still getting familiar with everyone, but so far we have had a great experience & it's been money well spent! I was so glad to be able to get private lessons for my daughter. I got a 5 pack of 30-minute lessons for $160 at the member rate (we are switching over to group now at $100/month for twice a week lessons) which I thought was a fair pric to pay for private. I knew private would be more expensive but my five year old has had a bit of trauma with water in her life (one was a swim school when she was really little and another was thinking she could swim but she couldn't so she sunk for a second) and she was terrified to get back in the water back in May. Mr. Darren was great with Sadie. I was able to explain to him the issues she's had and the first lesson it took him less than five minutes to get her in the water by her own choice. For reference, it took me half an hour at home... Anyway, she progressed quickly in acclimating to the pool again. Darren helped her gain so much confidence. I remember after one of the lessons she literally told me "I love Mr. Darren! He gives me confidence!". We ended up doing three round of 5 lessons before realizing she was totally ready for group. In the private lessons she learned confidence, blowing bubbles, getting her whole face in the water, holding breath, assisted floating, kicking, wall jumps, pre-swim arm movements. She wasn't able to jump into the pool without holding hands, but Mr. Darren and I worked out some accommodations for her to feel successful. She also wasn't able to submerge her whole head under water yet but that really doesn't have anything to do with the instructor. She's super stubborn. No matter what, she got lots of encouragement and connection in her lessons and that was exactly what she needed. I'm looking forward to her learning more skills in the group lessons now that she's conquered the water again. read more

I've been attending both classes for the past four months and I'm so grateful to have both amazing instructors inspire me on my recent fitness journey. Samantha's Pilates class is the reason why I grew a passion for Pilates! She is such an amazing teacher that always motivates her students to get stronger and to be kind to their bodies. I've seen my body transform in just a few sessions with her. After recovering from a back injury, she really helped me with my flexibility, strength, stamina and calmness (with breathing). Simone's Barre class is exciting, challenging and motivating! Simone really helped me build confidence, and also some muscles too! I feel strong and empowered when taking her classes and have also seen a big transformation with her as well. Our go-to family hangout! We use this facility for everything it's worth. Child care, rec level sports, swimming, and of course the gym. The employees are super friendly and helpful. The facilities are ample and clean. They always have great events around the major holidays that my kids love. I frequent the Y almost daily to workout. They just opened a newly remodeled area mainly for weightlifting which is nice. I go in the mornings and it's still relatively quiet, I have no problem having access to any equipment I chose to use. I think the word is spreading though because I have noticed there are times it can get busy but nothing like those big brand gyms where it can get really crowded. My sons and I participate in their Adventure Guide program which in turn makes our Y membership fee probably the one of the best deals in town (helpful hint)! read more

The aqua fitness program is amazing! All instructors are so great, they're certified and/or have degrees, they know their muscle groups, and how doing water exercise works the muscles! The fitness classes are non-impact in the water, which means no pressure on lower-body joints but you STILL get an upper-and-lower body workout! The other night, 4/13/2021 when I was completing my regular workout I saw a lot of the old familiar faces coming back to the Fullerton Y. In speaking with four different people they all said they missed coming to the Y more than anything during this pandemic! It was part of a great testimony about how this facility is run! We had our birthday party yesterday at the YMCA and it was wonderful! The staff was so great, the kids were so well taken care of and had so much fun, everything looked beautiful and was organized well, and we walked away so happy! If we could give more than five stars we would! Sheri in particular was so wonderful in running the games and keeping the kids happy and entertained. The staff all got together and worked hard and were so attentive to everything that we needed! We had such a successful birthday and my little six-year-old boy was so happy. I'm a long-time member of the Fullerton Y and I love it! It's a wonderful family environment. The facility is so clean and the staff is great. There is a variety of fitness classes available for all levels, but my favorite is Zumba with Julia. She loves what she does and works so hard at making it fun, yet challenging! So far, we love the Y. It appeals to us because of the Kids Zone. Sooo many staff there to take care of your little ones. I think the ratio is 1:4 kids. The Kid Zone is why we joined the Y. My husband said it's for me to learn to "let go" of our little one. Lol. They give you a pager, so when your baby needs a diaper/pull up change, they'll page you. Or if they have a bathroom accident, change of clothes, they will page you. Month 1, I just drop off my kid, go to the patio area and just be baby-free for 2 hrs. (Heaven) After a month of relaxing and being baby-free, I decided to actually work out. The equipments are very user friendly. Can't complain. Maybe in month 3, I'll try their classes. :) read more

I have been a visitor or a member of the Fullerton YMCA for many years. As April and I were raising our children we would bring them here to swim as well. I am now a senior and am back trying to stay in shape and work on my health and muscle tone. The Fullerton "Y" as many call it is foremost in updated and the best workout equipment. In many cases better then many fitness clubs around. With the Virus still a concern our "Y" has been able to operate in a safe and friendly manner with all our cooperation. Senior citizens are eligible for free membership along with our SCAN senior memberships. After reading many if not all of the criticizing reviews I would like to add this. I have owned and operated a business and found it is common that mistakes are made and customers can become angary. The actions of the company manger to correct the problem is first and foremost in maintain and keeping the customers confidence. What I read in these types of sorrowful reviews is people complaining and Y management asking to speak with them further on their concerns and complaint. I also noticed not one complainer has post and progress comments or have listed any discussions with the mangers about their concerns. Shame on them. They get the reviewees attention with all there rhetoric about problems and never give it and closure. I've also learned from reading FaceBook that there are way to many unhappy people out there that just love to criticize. Located just off Harbor Blvd. near Bastanchury, the Fullerton Family YMCA is an excellent facility for all ages. I go for swimming and aqua fitness classes; the Y's pool and staff are the perfect way for me to keep in shape while enjoying the water. The pool is indoors and is kept at around eighty-five degrees: the perfect temperature to feel cool but not blast you with chills when you first get in. The aqua fitness classes are primarily 8:00 to 10:00 am Monday through Friday, but there are classes at 1:00 and 7:00 pm on certain days and an 8:00 am class on Saturdays. The rest of the time is lap and open swim, swim lessons, and youth water polo (I believe). If you're looking for a great workout--where you leave knowing you really worked your muscles and got your heart rate up--check the schedule for classes with Melanie, Hung, Diane, Debby, or Grace. But the instructors will always give you options to take it easier if necessary (or if you're just feeling tired one day!). There are also classes designed for those with arthritis, which are more easygoing. Look for Beth or Lisa on the schedule. Indoors, are fitness classes, yoga, tai chi, cycling, and more--for all athletic abilities. There is a really nice workout room with a good variety of machines--I've gotta try these out one day, but I can't get away from the pool! Check their web site for all of the activities for children--there are lots! There are also times when you can drop your kids off for supervised activities while you work out! The parking lot is rather small, so allow time before a scheduled class to get a spot--someone is always leaving, so be patient. There is also valet parking on the busiest mornings. The members at the Fullerton Family YMCA are a friendly bunch. They are also polite and take pride in keeping the locker rooms and facilities neat and clean. You will make friends here, so don't be the least bit shy about visiting for the first time! Lastly, the staff ... you won't find more helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable people anywhere! They will soon know your name and seem genuinely pleased to say hello, have a chat, listen to praise, or the occasional gripe. Just go there and give it a try! Clean and equipment is updated. It seems like people treat this location with high respect because everything is returned to it's original place as far as training equipment. Enjoy the outdoor weight training area as well as the lap pool. Beautiful kids zone areA with an outdoor area for them as well. The best things about joining the Fullerton YMCA are that there is an indoor heated pool and free childcare!!! I just finished playing our semi final soccer game tonight and the team we played MLC are pigs, dirty team and dont know how to play clean soccer. In addition, the reffing was horrible as well and players could of got seriously hurt! We know there's fouls that happen in every sport but this team was out of line. The were pushing, shoving and basically taking our legs out and the referee did a poor job managing the game. I'm really pissed I got fouled 5-6 times and i was thrown to the ground multiple times were the other player should of got an automatic red card. I came home with multiple scratches on my body from the turf field from when I was pushed down. This is unacceptable we are men 35 and over with family's coming out to play hard, clean, competitive soccer but teams like MLC don't seem to understand that!! With all this being said u might want to think twice before playing at the Fullerton YMCA as the reffing sucks and some teams are really dirty players like MLC. read more

This is a great gym. I used to come here all the time about a year ago. The facility is nice and clean and the staff and other gym members are super friendly. If you go every day, you start recognizing the same people who go to the gym. I made two friends while I was here! The gym I now go to, everyone is kind of in their own zones and don't welcome small talk or conversation (which is fine). I used to get tips from people in terms of how to do weight exercises. One of the trainers there said that I had chicken legs and needed to do more leg/weight exercises. lol. I still laugh when I think about her comment. The machines are pretty nice and clean. I don't remember needing to wait in line for the machines. This place also doesn't smell (a real big plus). The members are mostly older so you get the senior citizens working out during the day time. I love watching them because they are pretty cute doing their light work out. The swimming pool gets really dirty and busy during the summer. This is the only negative, which can't be helped. The space is only so big and I can understand that the pool gets busier when kids are out of school. Overall, this is a very fun and friendly space to work out. read more

Our family loves the YMCA! We are slowly getting back to using all of the great services they offer (state-of-the-art fitness equipment, group classes, KidsZone, youth sports, etc.) and they were able to stay open through the pandemic because of the large outdoor area they were able to utilize. The facility has ALWAYS been, and continues to be, in great shape, very clean and easy to navigate. We recently signed up our daughter for private swim lessons and Savannah was her instructor. Our daughter has quite a fear of the water, and Savannah was very gentle, encouraging and patient with her. Their swim program came highly recommended to us and now we know why! It's also such a sense of community to belong to the YMCA. I love the history timeline that is on the hallway walking out to the soccer arena and pool. It's amazing to think that we are now part of such an incredible organization. read more

I bring my kids for swimming classes. We do the group lesson. Seems like our time frame is not as crowded but the session before is, get to the pool early if you have classes because it gets packed. My only issue is their communication is lacking, someone emailed me regarding some issue, I called the number given back and she had no idea what I was talking about. I came ti the front desk and had to physically show the email I got or else the guy in the back managing things also didn't know what I meant even though someone from their facility emailed me that morning. I tried their included with membership kids ballet class once and wow do not stay near the weight lifting room entrance, just get out of the building because it SMELLS horribly, they should try to do something to keep it less smelly lol Is a cheap membership, the family membership can get you ballet/tap/martial arts for your kids while you work out or do one of their group class.
