Oh man, we must've done something right because the food gods have blessed us all with Vegetarian…read moreVillage. Indy, do you hear me? Please listen...You have been blessed by the food gods! You won't find this concept in many cities so I hope we can recognize it as the gem that it is and take advantage of it to keep them around. So what is it you ask. First, it's not a restaurant. Rather, imagine if mom (dad, sister, aunt or whoever can cook in your family...mom just connotes warmth and wholesome for me) were to cook healthy, wholesome meals and bring them to your house whenever you wanted. This is what it is; it's a catering service but I think they're aiming to cater to us, to singles, to families and to our everyday lives. Awesome, right? Many of us don't have time to cook or we just don't want to so we eat out. There's a downside to this: we often have to sacrifice healthy food for convenient and/or tasty food. It's a First World problem, I know (one with shockingly negative consequences but that is a lecture for another setting). The brilliance of Vegetarian Village and places like this is they offer a perfect solution to this modern day problem in that we can have all three: healthy, tasty and convenient. The Holy Trinity of modern eating. No sacrificing. Again, this is why I'm thrilled to have them here... The food: I wanted to order the holiday meal but since there are no Yelp reviews yet and I knew nothing about their food, I was apprehensive to do so since I would be ordering for 8. I called and the owner was kind enough to fix me a plate to try at their Central Ave. location. An entire meal: pastry stuffed turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet mashed potatoes, cauliflower, and string beans with pearl onions and almonds. How cool is that? Good business practices is all I can say to that. I had no idea what to expect but yum. The meatless turkey was delicious as were all of the sides. The turkey is a recipe she has created on her own. Like I said, this is wholesome cooking...comfort food prepared with heart (metaphorically...this is a vegetarian business after all.) Classics made meatless by professionals. This food is truly an extension of the chefs and they are very passionate about what they're cooking for us. I was fortunate enough to talk with the owner for a bit, and the dishes they are making sound amazing. Meatloaf, lasagna, sloppy joes, chicken noodles, veggie jambalaya (all meatless of course). My favorite bit: they offer 5 entrees for $45. This is crazy affordable and so perfect for singles or couples. Families of course too. I cannot wait to try everything they offer on their menu and I will keep you posted. Some things to keep in mind: This is a new company so my understanding is that the chefs still work other jobs. For this reason, we need to place our orders a week ahead of time. It's not like ordering a pizza so a little planning is required. Also, pick up is available. I think they offer this in both Carmel and midtown on Central. Great locations. Check out their website because I believe they are going to have a sampling/tasting of their food soon. Thank you Vegetarian Village for bringing this concept to Indy and making our lives a little easier...and healthier!

Thanks to a billboard on the highway, hubs and I stopped here for lunch. We had absolutely no idea…read morewhat to expect when we pulled up. The parking lot was jam packed and the smell of beef cooking was delish. This is stick to your ribs mid western, hearty cooking. We opted to share a Sunday special which includes soup of the day, salad, rolls and your choice of a main (we got the round steak in gravy). I'm really glad we shared. It's a lot of food! Our server was very nice and explained the menu to us. She checked in on us a couple of times. This restaurant has been around for quite a while and it reminds me of generational dining. It's some place your grandparents started going to and then your parents and now you. It's definitely family time at the Beef House. I forgot to get food pictures.

I had heard good things about this place and had been really looking forward to trying it for…read moreyears. We finally made it up there a couple weeks ago, set reservations, they were absolutely not needed on the Friday at 7 when we went. The service was fantastic, the dessert that we got was delicious, the food was ok at best (something you could get pretty much anywhere but it's a charming little place so that alone made it enjoyable), drinks from the bar were really good. We happened to be sitting at a table with an elderly couple behind us, this guy was so incredibly rude that my husband finally looked at me and said " That guy over there is being a complete prick to the staff". He was speaking to the staff like they were beneath him, he was incredibly rude to multiple employees and my husband and I just agreed he must be a miserable human being to treat people that way. After they left, we overheard another staff member tell the table next to us that was the owner. We looked at a picture of him just to be 100% sure and sure enough it was the owner. The wife looked embarrassed, the whole section we were in was taking note of the way this guy was speaking to the staff. Talk about secondhand embarrassment, he obviously didn't have any embarrassment to begin with but the rest of the restaurant was taking notice and cringing, after he left it was discussed among the tables. His behavior was repulsive, if you run a restaurant and you talk to your employees like that on the dining room floor, you should be ashamed. If you have an issue with the way you were being served you could've taken that up with the employee somewhere other than the floor. You obviously think that you're more important than you actually are and your behavior that day was vile, even if that was the best food I've ever eaten in my life I wouldn't return after he demeaned that kid like that. To the poor kid that he treated the worst, who just laughed it off and tried to pretend like he wasn't being talked to like that in front of a dining room room full of people, your parents must've raised you right because you had every reason to not stand there and take that.
