Thanks to a billboard on the highway, hubs and I stopped here for lunch. We had absolutely no idea what to expect when we pulled up. The parking lot was jam packed and the smell of beef cooking was delish. This is stick to your ribs mid western, hearty cooking. We opted to share a Sunday special which includes soup of the day, salad, rolls and your choice of a main (we got the round steak in gravy). I'm really glad we shared. It's a lot of food! Our server was very nice and explained the menu to us. She checked in on us a couple of times. This restaurant has been around for quite a while and it reminds me of generational dining. I had heard good things about this place and had been really looking forward to trying it for years. We finally made it up there a couple weeks ago, set reservations, they were absolutely not needed on the Friday at 7 when we went. The service was fantastic, the dessert that we got was delicious, the food was ok at best (something you could get pretty much anywhere but it's a charming little place so that alone made it enjoyable), drinks from the bar were really good. We happened to be sitting at a table with an elderly couple behind us, this guy was so incredibly rude that my husband finally looked at me and said " That guy over there is being a complete prick to the staff". He was speaking to the staff like they were beneath him, he was incredibly rude to multiple employees and my husband and I just agreed he must be a miserable human being to treat people that way. After they left, we overheard another staff member tell the table next to us that was the owner. We looked at a picture of him just to be 100% sure and sure enough it was the owner. The wife looked embarrassed, the whole section we were in was taking note of the way this guy was speaking to the staff. Talk about secondhand embarrassment, he obviously didn't have any embarrassment to begin with but the rest of the restaurant was taking notice and cringing, after he left it was discussed among the tables. His behavior was repulsive, if you run a restaurant and you talk to your employees like that on the dining room floor, you should be ashamed. If you have an issue with the way you were being served you could've taken that up with the employee somewhere other than the floor. You obviously think that you're more important than you actually are and your behavior that day was vile, even if that was the best food I've ever eaten in my life I wouldn't return after he demeaned that kid like that. To the poor kid that he treated the worst, who just laughed it off and tried to pretend like he wasn't being talked to like that in front of a dining room room full of people, your parents must've raised you right because you had every reason to not stand there and take that. read more

You go here for the steak, and it is delicious! Oh and get those yeast rolls! I was finally able to come visit this place while I was passing by the area, and I was very satisfied by my experience here. The staff here was very welcoming and I did enjoy the fact you see a lot of the meat on display when you enter! The interior also looked great as I took a picture with the bull in front! I started this meal the best way, with their yeast rolls. OMG they were so warm, fresh, and delicious! They also provide their homemade apple butter, which I HIGHLY suggest using. This apple butter made the rolls even better. For an appetizer we got the Combination Platter, which includes a bunch of their fried appetizers, Onion Rings, Fried Mushrooms, and Zucchini Fries. From this, I enjoyed the onion rings the most. I ended up getting the bone-in Ribeye with sautéed mushrooms. This steak hit the spot, with the right amount of marbling and flavor. The meal overall was very satisfying. For dessert, I got a cheesecake with strawberries on top. This was not too sweet, which is my preference. I met my Aunt and Uncle for dinner at The Beef House in Covington, IN per their suggestion one Saturday afternoon and I was very impressed with the dining experience. This was a bit of a drive for me, an hour and a half, since I live in Indy, but it was well worth the drive! The Beef House is a steakhouse that has been around since 1964, and it is a family style steakhouse that is known for their fresh beef and huge portions. They also have a banquet hall across the parking lot that can be rented out for special events or organization meetings. I have not been inside the banquet hall, but from the pictures, it looks very nice and has a beautiful ambiance. When I went inside the restaurant, I noticed a bull's head on the wall on the right that was very unique and stood out very well. It is definitely a photo opportunity for families to remember the dining experience. The ambiance of the restaurant is gorgeous and definitely old style family steakhouse vibes with wood paneling and display of fine chinaware on the mantle. Our server greeted us with a smile and welcomed us to the restaurant. Unfortunately, I do not remember her name, but she was wonderful and took very good care of us. The menu is very impressive with a variety of options from pasta, steak, lobster, fish, and even frog legs! I decided to go with the Atlantic salmon dinner because I was in the mood for fish. I know I should have gotten a steak, but just was not feeling a steak for dinner. The dinner came with a salad, a side, and soup. I chose the vegetable soup, garden salad, and baked potato with sour cream for my side. OMG! When I say the portions were huge, the portions were huge!!! My Atlantic salmon was a huge portion, and the baked potato was a decent size as well. The vegetable soup and garden salad were delicious and very fresh. The vegetable soup was homemade and very comfort food for me. The Atlantic salmon was cooked to perfection and had a perfect texture to it. It melted in my mouth when I tasted it and was absolutely perfect! The baked potato was excellent and cooked perfectly as well. My Aunt also had the Atlantic salmon dinner and my Uncle had the chicken Parmesan dinner with pasta. The chicken Parmesan was huge and big enough to fill the entire plate. My Uncle loved it very much. The best part was the yeast rolls with strawberry jam and apple butter. The yeast rolls were the best I have ever had in a long time and the homemade strawberry jam and apple butter were pure heaven. You can even purchase a dozen of the yeast rolls to take home, along with a jar of apple butter or strawberry jam, if you are so inclined. This was an amazing dining experience and reminded me of the old steakhouse my family used to go to as a kid for dinner on special occasions. My Aunt and Uncle gave a good recommendation, and will definitely be back here for dinner if I am in the area. The Beef House is fantastic and highly recommend anyone traveling on the road to stop here for lunch or dinner, but would suggest making reservations in advance because it does get busy very quick. My first time here and it didn't disappoint. The service was excellent and the food was above average. I started with the bang bang shrimp appetizer. The sauce in the shrimp was much better than a well know chain that serves the same dish. The broccoli soup was creamy and the broccoli was not overcooked. The rolls were on another level: hot, pillowy and fresh. You could literally eat just the rolls with butter and leave. For the entrée I ordered the seafood platter (I know it's a beef place) but I'm not a big steak person. The seafood platter was huge. Everything was fresh and not overly salty. This has been our go to place since moving to Indiana a few years ago and the food and service is good. We haven't found many good places since moving here so we visit almost weekly. But I have to give them three stars because when we checked out I got an alert for the charge and noticed it was different than the receipt that the waitress gave me. I asked and she went and got the owner. He said that sometimes cards do that to account for the tip and as someone who has used a card to eat out almost weekly for 27 years I have literally never seen that happen. This place is really good for what it is. It's not five star dining but it has five star service. Everyone one working there is extremely helpful and friendly. It located just I74 and we stop there every time we travel through this area. They always start you with great rolls served with apple butter and a strawberry jelly. They are always warm and delicious. Though they have an extensive menu we always go with the cafeteria style meal that changes daily. We have never been disappointed in anything we have had. This place brings back the nostalgia from high school prom for me. Back in 1988 a group of friends and I ate here before our Senior prom. Well, I met one of those same old friends who now lives in Zionsville, IN while I now live in Charlotte, NC to relive our glory days. We had fun catching up and this place LOOKS EXACTLY THE SAME. Now, outside they have added pretty flowers and a bison statue, but inside is the same brick and wood decor. Families still arrive from miles around to come to basically the middle of nowhere to eat here. My friend had the NY Strip and I had the 12oz ribeye. The ribeyes come in 4 different sizes, which was really nice to be able to select from. They didn't have horseradish cream sauce, but the waitress had them make some up for me. Nice ! The waitress was extremely friendly and we had a great view of their garden flowers and even watched a hummingbird fly around drinking from the flowers. We started off with their wonderful famous rolls with strawberry jam. Nice and fluffy with real pieces of strawberries in the jam. The salads were nice and they make their own ranch dressing. My steak was a bit thin but was cooked well and very good. It came with the salad, rolls, and 1 side. I chose a baked potato. My husband got the burger and said it was juicy. It came with fries. For 3 people, the bill was around $94 before tip. Someone ordered the chicken breast. Thin, dry, not fresh, and seemed pre-battered and frozen before cooked. After the person finished the meal and paid, they politely asked the manager about this, and the feminine man scoffed and responded, "You should've asked at your table!" He then snapped, "My family OWNS this place!" It was bizarre. Another time, I got the sugar fried ham. It was thin, dry, and inedibly salty. These days, the strawberry sauce for rolls is put on your table in one small, cheap plastic, snap-lid container. You get one roll each, and I think you have to ask for refills, when in the past they used to make sure you had refills. They removed the salad bar. Their cod fish is paper thin. What is that? Cod is a thick cut fish. Their cutting of corners, and food quality, is becoming insulting, and I won't return. read more

The restaurant is nice and the steak case looked great but then the food wasn't. We both had Ribeyes. My spouse sent it back, ordered medium got rare. The rub /seasoning is overly salty. I ordered appetizer chicken livers with bacon, came out over cooked and charred. I left my steak, too salty . The bake potato was cover in 1/2 cup of sour cream that had what I thought were chives in it. This was poured over it. I had asked for it on the side. The mushrooms were swimming in oil. I tipped the bowl over to pour all of the grease off of them. I had 2 cokes to get the salt out of my mouth. We stopped eating and asked for the check. $80 plus tip. The rolls were the best part of meal. The waitress was nice but I wondered why she didn't asked about the meal since her customers had not eaten their dinners. Well, when we. First moved here in 2007 everyone raved about the beef house and we tried it and fell in love and were regulars for special occasions and for date nights. Loved the salad bar and the soup and yes the rolls and apple butter. Loved the fact that they also had a couple different styles of rolls as well. The steaks were always good and the service always excellent. Covid came and of course the world changed but they have seemed to want to keep it like it is Covid times. No salad bar, a skippy little bowl of salad, last time my wife picked the brown lettuce out..the steaks sub par at best, only the yeast rolls now and you have to ask for apple butter (if they have any) and for the jam..the staff are ok...honestly drive to Lafayette and eat at Texas Roadhouse and get better all around food and service for a much better price read more

Used to really like this place! Rolls and broccoli cheese soup are really the only good things here. I ordered a medium rare steak and received a BLUE rare. I politely told the waitress that was way too rare for me (I am 8 months pregnant). She was kind and took it back. Came out again (same cut of steak, did not get a new one) and it was still cooked super blue! I said I really cannot eat this. Took it back again & she agreed with me it was not med rare. Not pink at all, very purple! She brought back a new cut & manager came out. He is extremely rude, tried to tell me it was cooked & I need to order medium next time. Kept asking me "okay well do you want it cooked again or off your check..?" I told him "I'd prefer to get what I ordered so I can eat..." My entire family was arguing with him and he refused to have any accountability for the quality of service him & his cook were providing. I cook NY Strips weekly; this steak was way undercooked! i was very very upset to be spoken to so rudely and him trying to gaslight me that it was med rare. I will not be going back. My first time at this restaurant. My husband and I were early on a Saturday night so it was not crowded and very quiet. It's very old school with dark paneling walls, tables and chairs but a beautiful wall of windows. Our food was great it just a lot! Extremely disappointed in our last visit. We moved from the area in 2019 and just returned. The beef house was always a good gathering place for us and our family when getting together, when asked where we wanted to meet for dinner, I said, the beef House, of course! They said OK, we haven't been there in quite a while. I didn't think anything of it because I knew they had changed their eating habits somewhat. As we walked into the dining room, first thing I noticed was the salad bar was gone. It was always a big draw for us, and the rest of the family. Apparently it was done away with during Covid. After talking with my cousins, they said that is why they had not returned. We had no idea. The food quality is average at best, and the salad bar was whatalways drew us to the restaurant. We are just one family so I'm sure it's not a big deal to them. But we found it interesting that another table seated near us experienced basically the same thing as we heard the ladies say they wanted to leave. The gentleman both said we're already here. Let's just eat. We don't have to come back, so I can't believe there are others that don't feel the same way. It's a shame. We had noticed prior to 2019 the food quality had slipped the past few years, but it was still decent. Now it's just average food. And they have become stingy with the rolls and strawberry jam which they always bragged about. Needless to say, we will not return, which is disappointing. I did not like the 1 st table they tried to seat us at due to cramped area. I asked to be moved to a better location and the lady did not hesitate and moved us to much more comfortable seating and it had space. Several people had steaks which were cooked to order and tasty. The beef soup had a very good beef flavor with tender bits of beef within it. The noodles were a bit on the softer side. T-bone steak was cooked as ordered. Flavor wise, there is nothing special. It tasted like a typical steak you can buy at the grocery store and cook at home. The broccoli was steamed and tasted OK. Ambiance: Nice and quiet as expected on a Tuesday night at 8:30pm (Closing at 10). Very clean environment but no music playing to fill the space. Nothing really shows off that this building is a beef house. Overall, good experience but I wouldn't choose to go here again.
