Food is good and so is the macaroni salad. Prices are fair. Staff on the other hand can have an attitude and can make you feel really uncomfortable. When they have too many people there for lunch they get extremely overwhelmed and start arguing with each other. Food is good staff on the other hand not so much. read more

My family know eight here today and I have to say it was one of the worst experiences. I ordered a sandwich and when it came it had onions on it and I said this sandwich was not supposed to have onions on it may I have another. The manager came over and said we got the person in trouble who made your sandwich but we're not going to make you a new one that's just the way we do business. I said let me get this straight you will not replace my sandwich because of you having a policy that will not fix things when you do them wrong. Visiting from out of town, walked to this place for breakfast. Ordered the Denver omelet and a bacon egg and cheese sandwich. Both were fantastic! The iced coffee was made perfectly. They also have several big coolers of different bottled drinks. Prices were reasonable, and service was top notch. So glad we tried this place out. read more

Determined to avoid frozen french fries and questionable cheese-like sauce from the Bridgeport ferry concession stand, my family and I headed into the downtown area of Bridgeport for more fulfilling foodstuffs. The colored flags outside this deli fluttering in the wind caught my eye and I yelled to my dad to turn the car around, as I believed we had found our oasis. The place was pretty empty, but it seemed logical since it was a federal holiday and the deli was flanked by office buildings and a community college. Inside, the exposed-brick walls were thoughtfully decorated with posters and cushioned benches topped with vibrant pillows lined the perimeter of the space. Upon closer inspection, we noticed that the cushioned benches were actually resting on decorated chests. Candles also graced each table, making for a welcoming home-y feeling with potential for an intimate night-time setting, despite it being a casual deli. The owner greeted us with a smile and was helpful in guiding us through the chalkboard menu filled with the usual upscale but reasonably-priced deli fare: hot paninis, wraps, subs, and salads. Though the options were fairly standard, the food was fresh and satisfying. What made this experience particularly special was the graciousness of the gregarious deli owner, who served our food to our table and checked on how we were doing throughout. We found out later that he is from Madiera, and the capital is actually namesake of the deli. He told us that Madiera is a beautiful little island that is a popular European vacation spot. Seems fitting, since his cafe really was like piece of heaven in a sea of mediocrity. My only wish is that I were around these parts more often to support this deli that is offering something truly special to the area. read more

I went to Funchal on the Green for lunch and ordered a panini. It was gross. Nothing about it wowed me or made me want to come back for more. It came with a spoonful of macaroni salad as a side. It was possibly one of most bland things I've ever eaten in my life. It had absolutely no flavor and even less salt. My friend had a sandwich that he also thought was mediocre at best. I believe it was called the Manhattan. The cafe looks very cute from the inside with lots of light but the FOOD? Never again. It seems like a lot of the professionals in the area come to the cafe which is great, but I don't understand why because the food is trash. The only reason why I gave it two stars is because the cashier was very sweet and the Snapple I had was great. It was Mango Madness. read more

Talk about a diamond in the rough! This little deli is in the heart of "downtown" Bridgeport. It has a wonderful assortment of sandwiches to choose from both hot and cold. You cant go wrong with the Roast Beef and it did not disappoint. the sandwich had a large pile of roast beef. Add the Horseradish mayo and you are in for a good time! We stopped here for lunch on our way from PA to Rhode Island. It's a very convenient location, right off of 95. The restaurant has a cozy feel and is decorated well. Chalkboard menu with lots of great salad, panini and wrap choices. I ordered the house salad with chicken and my husband had the portobello pesto sandwich. Both were tasty, healthy and fresh. Friendly staff. Lunch for 2 with bottled water was $31- a bit pricey, but worth stopping for fast and fresh food on the road. We'd stop here again! read more

Had a late lunch at this wonderful cafe. The man behind the counter was friendly and welcoming. I was able to get an omelet at 1:30 in the afternoon accompanied by a nice foamy latte. They have a wide variety of menu choices, and an interesting looking specials board, curried chicken salad is just one example. I will be getting a salad or panini next time. Let me start off by saying the main reason I'm giving Funchal 4 stars is the SUSHI. Honestly, some of the best sushi around. Incredibly fresh and at such a good price (they have specials daily 1 roll and a soup). They also have brown rice if you prefer. However, do yourself a favor and steer clear of the sandwiches at this place. Tiny, unfulfilling and weak. And at $8 for a sandwich??? No thanks. The salads are decent. But the SUSHI?? The lady who works the register always seems to have a attitude, & not very welcoming when you approach her. Food is good just one of their employees needs to work in her customer service skills. The menu was varied and interesting, the food and service excellent. I had half and half - soup and 1/2 panini, my partner and a full panini. Just right for both of us. Driving up 95, wanted a deli close to the highway and Funchal Cafe popped up on my GPS. The staff/owners were so friendly! My friend and I got the steak and cheese wrap with brie and the Santa Fe turkey panino to share. We agreed that they were the best sandwiches we've ever had, melt-in-your-mouth brilliant flavor combinations. We now make jalapeno cream cheese at home! Had we noticed that they weren't open on Sundays, we would have changed our return travel plans. Hope you open a place in DC. read more

Open at 7 for breakfast and lunch through 4 PM, (3 PM on Sat closed Sun), they have dozens of choices on their blackboard menu. Breakfasts have bagels, omelettes, French toast, and pancakes. Lunch offerings are soups, panini (the best in town!), salads, wraps, hot and cold sandwiches, and desserts. Don't see what you want on the menu? They will probably make it for you. Good selection of coffee, cappuccino, lattes, mochas, and cold drinks. They even cater! I have had 5 or 6 breakfasts and lunches here and have never been disappointed. Val, the owner, and his staff are very friendly and even if they are busy can get your order ready quickly. FREE parking and very close to I-95 and CT 8/25 make this a great place for breakfast, lunch, or meeting with friends for coffee. read more
