He passed at 6 years of age and we took him his favorite flowers and the cars he liked. These cars were the size of a matchbox. We placed a bouquet of yellow and blue flowers and we had to zip tie them together because we didn't want them to fly away. We went today and they took all his cars and for some stupid reason they took all his yellow flowers and left his blue flowers. They cut the zip ties and threw the zip ties on his grave. They discarded everything with absolutely no care. It was already a devastating loss in our lives and for them to treat my grandsons graveside like trash is ridiculous and utterly disgusting. We were planning on removing everything this Friday the 6th because they posted the next flower pick up was scheduled for March 10th through the 12th. They jumped the gun and they should have had the decency to wait a few more days and this disgusting gesture would've never happened. Very dissaapointed and sad. I like that they give me options as I can be cremated, or have any casket I like interred here, and my husband can be buried with me. My children will have a beautiful place to visit us and their ancestors. i love that it is kept neat and tidy and the rows are very impressive. You DO have to follow their guidelines as to what can be placed with your loved ones on the graves during visits as well as what type of flowers can be left there. JUST AN FYI, do not leave anything at ANY cemetery that you will be devastated if it is stolen. I saw someone on here post that their little boys cars were taken by the grounds keepers and zip ties were left on the grave. That was more likely done by someone stealing them. I have seen it at every cemetery here in San Antonio. I have literally watched ppl steel flowers off someone's grave and put it on their loved ones. It is very disgraceful but it happens. I am a bit scared to be a lady vet buried alongside all the good ole boy vets who did not like women serving, but I served my country well and will till the day I go, not my administration, my country, my children's country, my grandchildren's country. This place does not care about you, or your family...might as well be a SCAM! I'm extremely disappointed with my recent experience at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, and frankly nobody seems to care. The service and communication were unprofessional, and inadequate. The level of service and overall quality fell far below my expectations and what I believe to be acceptable standards upheld by a business dealing with such sensitive manners. 13 YEARS AGO, my grandfather was laid to rest here, and my family requested his name not be placed on his crip until the following month... fast forward a DECADE and then some. It is STILL not placed to satisfaction!!! Within the last two months a family member brought to my attention that his name still had not been placed.. I took immediate action, called to get an estimate, and was told I would be contacted back. After more than 5 attempts to get information , I was told THE PLAQUE HAD FALLEN THROUGH THE CRACKS FOR 13 YEARS!!!!!! Oopsies!!! Our bad! Since then I have been ran around the block more times than I can even begin to count. Having the issue handed over to multiple people during the process including Saul, DeAnna Rathke, and Pete. My largest issue resides in the fact that on Sept 10th I was ASSURED by the manager Pete, that the issue had been taken care of, and he was always available for any follow up need. I arrived back at the Funeral Home for the first time, last Wednesday October 1st to find my Grandfathers name had only been PARTIALLY mounted...3 of the letters STILL sat dangling off the wall... Since last Wednesday I have called 5 times, only to be told Pete was in a meeting, and unavailable EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I was ensured after each attempt that Pete would return my call, to follow up. Since then, I have had NO CONTACT BACK. Finally, I call this morning 10/7 at 930 and request to for a 6th time now, to speak with Pete... again you guessed it, Pete is in a meeting. I asked if I could possibly have an estimate as to when I could call back, and be successful in reaching the manager, Pete... the lady of the phone said i'm not sure maybe 11-1130 would be a good time! I thanked her, and ended the call. Here is where my largest issue lies.. I call back again at 1130, as instructed, only to be told that Pete was in fact not in office today.. soooo why was I told 3 hours prior that he was in a meeting. PATHETIC IGNORANCE! Sunset Memorial is a sad excuse of a company, honestly I'm not sure how they remain open with this level of disconnect and incompetence. If it was up to me, my family member would be removed from this Sunset Memorial IMMEDIATELY. I've tried to be understanding to the fact that they are dealing with mourning families on the daily, who are presently losing their loved ones. However, after being beat around the bush COUNTLESS times in the matter, I no longer have patience nor compassion for this disgusting display of ignorance. Shame on every single one you.

For an extremely cost effective way to handle final expenses, we didn't feel like we were getting sub par service; far from it. Mr. Bass was my initial point of contact and was very caring and kind as he assisted with my pre-need arrangement plan for my Father, who was 94 years of age. While speaking to Mr. Bass, I realized that I too would have to cross this bridge so it was best to start my own pre-need. When the time came to use my Father's pre-need arrangement plan, shortly after acquiring it, my family was met with the kindest, most caring person we could have asked for: Kassi Quintanilla. She welcomed my family, on the day of his death, with patience and understanding of this tragic event although it we knew the time would arrive. Kassi, followed the procedures dotting all i's and crossing all t's. Employees are ready to help you park your car to attend the gravesite service. The cars are lined up in a way so as to make leaving easy for everyone. Not so much at other cemeteries, where you are pretty much left to your own devices. So a bright spot in an otherwise sad day. The cemetery is not a large one, but it is kept in a pretty condition.
