I can't say enough about our experience with the funeral directors and staff at Porter Loring. They were most compassionate at this difficult time for our family. Equally important, they took care of every possible detail, that included a lovely memorial service and reception in San Antonio as well as coordinating with Joe Jackson Funeral Home in Laredo for my father's funeral mass and burial. Every person we connected with at Porter Loring could not have been kinder or more supportive...from the receptionist greeting us at the front door, to the graphic designers writing our program and two obituaries. They were responsive and patient, as if we were their only clients, and I know we were definitely not. We are ever so grateful to funeral directors, Janine Radke, Faith Ullom and Crystal Grazulis for their sympathetic hand and attention to detail before, during and after our father's passing. I highly recommend Porter Loring Mortuaries for when that time comes for your loved one.

From the very beginning, their team treated us with such compassion, patience, and respect. They made an incredibly painful process feel a little more manageable and handled everything with such dignity. They worked alongside Any Baby Can, a nonprofit organization in San Antonio that supports families experiencing the loss of a baby, and together they created a supportive and comforting experience during such a heartbreaking time. Every detail was handled thoughtfully, and we never felt rushed or overlooked. Their prices were one of the best we found in San Antonio as well. Their kindness and professionalism meant more to us than words can fully express. I am deeply grateful for the care they provided and would recommend them to any family needing support during such a difficult moment.

We had my grandmother's service there about a week ago now. My family and I arrived 45 min early to…read moretest out the slideshow that we were told needed to be on a USB drive (which we had to bring ourselves rather than simpying being able to email them the powerpoint and have them setup/play the presentation). When we tested out the USB their setup said it could not support the device (which was a USB device as they said). Instead of having any type of backup option to offer us (mind you, we had saved the presentation to Google slides, downloaded it on our phones, brought in two of our own laptops that it was saved to so we had options should there be any issues), we simply got a rude smirk from an employee who said, "Well this is why we asked you to come test out the presentation in advance." So you're telling me, you're going to put the burden on the grieving party and make them responsible for traveling to your location to test out a simple Google slide presentation (that could EASILY BE EMAILED TO YOU TO TEST OUT IN ADVANCE). And then, when YOUR technology says it's not supported, you offer no solution. So since we had our Macbooks there, we offered to go and buy a USB cable to plug in from our laptop to their setup. The woman working said we could try this. Keep in mind she saw both of our Macbooks and proceeded to say we could try that. So we LEAVE the service to go to Target and buy a cable... we come back, connect the laptop, connect the USB cable and plug into the USB port. Again, their system does not support the device. She proceeds to tell us (NOW) that there is also a mirror screen function from your phone. So we go to our iPhones and search for this function... this function is not supported on Apple devices or products. Their ENTIRE system does not work with Mac or Apple products, which makes the trip to Target completely obsolete... So that tells me, you have employees working there, whose basic function is to set up and ensure the day of service runs smoothly, yet they have ZERO idea how to actually use any of the technology in the building. Had they actually known how anything worked, we wouldn't have been sent to Target in the first place to get a cord to connect the laptops BC THEY SHOULD KNOW THAT THEIR SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK WITH APPLE PRODUCTS. Why at ANY point was it not communicated that their system did not support Apple products? That is just basic, basic, event planning. Second, we're getting ready to wrap the service and we let everyone know to meet at the church tomorrow, but our aunt chimes in to say the woman at the front said the procession starts at the funeral home tomorrow. Why had no one communicated that to the immediate family? There was also no kneeler for the casket, they said that location was the only one that didn't offer that. Why was that not communicated to the immediate family? The flower card they sent us following the service to let us know who the flowers were from was empty.. No names or flower cards... Again, why was there no communication??? When we called the following day to express our grievances, we had one woman who was nice enough and apologized and said they were discussing it. That was 5 days ago. Why has there been no follow up communication from management to apologize about the incredibly poor service. If you see a theme here, it's communication. There is none. And then basic, basic skills that your front of house employees should know how to operate.

When my mother went into Hospice care on April 2nd, her Hospice Social Worker recommended Funeral…read moreCaring USA as a reasonably priced alternative for her cremation service. My first interaction with the funeral director, James, was positive and respectful. And, Funeral Caring USA is reasonably priced. When we were asked to pay for the cremation/urn, death certificates, obituary, and keepsake urn, our family decided to pay by debit card for the cremation/urn and death certificates, with me paying separately for the obituary and keepsake urn on my credit card. Within a day or two of providing our debit and credit card information, I reached out to James for an update, only to learn that the credit card company they did business with had ended their relationship. In order to move forward, I was asked to pay with cash or by writing a check. Shortly after this conversation, our family paid for my mother's cremation/urn and death certificates by cashier's check. At no time thus far did James say the death certificates would be withheld (since they had already been paid for with a cashier's check). Slowly, communication began to get worse and more vague, to the point where we wondered if our mother's ashes had been lost. Thankfully, this was not the case. Because communication became so sketchy, approximately two weeks ago, the office manager, Fernando, joined the conversation. By the end of that phone call, he agreed to release the keepsake urn (which I appreciated), keep the obituary up on their website, and allow the death certificates to be released (or so I thought). At no time during that conversation did Fernando say they were no longer accepting debit or credit card payments - even though he had every opportunity to do so when I would say "please let me know when your credit card system of payment is rectified and I'll make the payment," or "I can pay when I come to San Antonio in June for my mom's service". Not ONCE did Fernando or James say that using a debit or credit card would not be acceptable ever. And, when I spoke to James last week, on Friday (May 15th), he again failed to mention this important detail. Also, during our May 15th conversation, James told me the death certificates were in a locked room, and no one currently at the office had a key. Finally, James told me he would call me Monday morning (yesterday, May 18th) to let me know that the death certificates could be picked up by my sister. He never called. Which brings me to today and my last conversation with Fernando, the office manager. I called to make sure the death certificates would be available for pick up and was put on hold...until Fernando picked up the call. He proceeded to tell me that they would not release the (paid-for) death certificates until my additional balance was paid in full AND that this was their policy. He went on to say that they had changed their payment policy (to exclude credit cards), but it was my job to have figured that out. After all, they were just a "small mom and pop business" that couldn't possibly reach out to all their customers by email to provide that information. And, when I asked how they expected all of their customers to come up with cash (in my case, $338 more dollars) instead of using credit (if that was a family's only option at the time), Fernando replied by saying "you don't have 338 dollars...it's just 338 dollars". "Doesn't your sister have 338 dollars?" I found this to be extremely offensive and insensitive, given what our family is going through! I ended the conversation almost immediately after these comments. To summarize, our experience started well, but quickly dissolved into a communication nightmare. Once the communication began to fail, our family just felt in the dark and as if we were being punished for Funeral Caring USA's missteps and "changes to policy" after we had already signed a contract and given credit card information. If you had asked me on April 13th, would I recommend this company, I would have said yes. Sadly, my position (along with my family's) has forever been changed to a resounding NO.
