There is a nice, small selection of specialty donuts and some coffee options as well. We went with the Berry Bomb, which is a strawberry flavored donut filled with a light cream. We also got a pumpkin streusel donut. Both donuts were fresh, airy, and soft. The berry donut was not overly sweet and had a nice strawberry cream flavor. The pumpkin donut did not have an overwhelming pumpkin taste and was slightly sweeter than the berry donut. We also paired our donuts with a cappuccino, which tasted like a standard cappuccino so nothing to note. (For some context, FunkyTown is like Hurts Donuts or Duck Donuts, only smaller size). FunkyTown has a wide variety of donuts and drink, perfect for any day, hot or cold. And the prices can't be beat! My friend got donut holes for about $0.25 for each! They were the perfect little bite to go with the small coffee I got for right around $2.00! I am so glad this place is open later than most other donut shops. I got the Pumpkin Stuff, Horchata($3), and apple fritter ($2). Hands down the best one was the horchata donut. It was filled with a light cinnamon cream and had a horchata glaze on top. The dough itself was pillowy. I was not a huge fan of the pumpkin stuff since it was 3 dollars for a meh donut. There was barely any pumpkin/pumpkin spice flavor. I appreciate the apple bits incorporated throughout the apple fritter. I also liked that the fritter is actually doughy instead of thin and crispy like other places. Price isn't too terrible for specialty donuts. We got a variety: Horchata, Hibiscus Lime, Key Lime, Chocolate Wasted, Watermelon Pistachio, Maple Bacon, Mango, Orange Cake...pretty much all specialty, including an Apple Fritter. These are made from scratch donuts, not from your average donut shop, standard glazed donut flavor...full of flavor donuts. So I accidentally reviewed the wrong location thinking it was this one so I'll leave that review under this updated one! My first experience was an okay one, but my second experience here? It was pretty great! We got the full sized donuts Razzle Dazzle and Mexican Hot Chocolate. They were soft, beautiful, and not overly sweet like my last experience. I feel like they were well balanced and savory, things you look for in a gourmet donut. The razzle dazzle had that tartness you find in raspberries but sweetness from the chocolate drizzle, meanwhile the Mexican hot chocolate was dipped in chocolate with some subtle cinnamon, whip cream and tiny marshmallows. Yumm. A perfect pick me up and they're open way past noon! They've gotten better with time and I look forward to taking more friends here and trying out their great new flavors! These donuts are reminiscent of a homemade donut. Much like homemade donuts, the grease is never quite right. It changes the flavor of the dough which takes away from any topping that covers the donut. It's a very overpowering flavor. A lesson from Southern Maid Donuts in Burleson, TX would help change the dough to a lighter dough and help with the flavor issue. I was really looking forward to the Lemon Poppy Donut but it seems like too much lemon was used in an effort to overpower the dough flavor. I couldn't finish it. There was a bit of a burnt grease flavor and the flavors competed too much. The idea of this place is cute and the location is great, the dough just really needs some work to make it taste better.
