Food is fine. There are diverse options. I've been twice. The first time (pre-Covid) felt very packed in. The second time was a little more spread out but still pretty packed. The staff is friendly. We visited Funny Bone on June 24th to see Tracy Morgan's show. Good show. Unfortunately the way I was treated ruined my night. I was violated and disrespected immensely by an employee at Funny Bone - he goes by the name Jay. Jay followed me to the bathroom and stood over top off me while I was washing my hands to ask me why was I on my phone. This was harassment and highly inappropriate. He was wrong! I got In touch with the manager immediately and spoke to him about this assault. The General Manager- Jesse Moffat. Nothing was done. I never heard from the GM, or anyone from the company. No one should be followed to bathroom, and harassed and assaulted about assumed cell phone usage. I followed the rules of the comedy club. This Jay guy was wrong and this was harassment and assault. We have been to the Funny bone several times. Biggest compliant is that it's so tight in there. New Years 2018 was very nice! Dinner package was $55 per person with a cheese and fruit tray, cheesecake platter, jello shooters, champagne for toast. Two issues 1. Comedy 2. Food . Don't waste your time and money. I regret it 1.) comedy: these guys really weren't that good, the best guy was the emcee/opener by far. But what REALLY upset me was Tony Roberts (trigger warning ahead) joking explicitly about sexual assault saying almost verbatim "I don't care if she's sleeping, If she's sleeping I'm gonna do some weird shit, when I'm done she'll look like a homicide victim" No I'm not kidding. I can hang with sex jokes but this took it TOO far. 2.) food: We ordered thick cut fries ($6) and drinks (13 each). We were given mozzarella sticks ($10). It was completely dark but my husband and I took one bite and realized there was a mistake. We got out waitress and kindly explained that we took one bite, and realized this was not our order and asked her to take it away. We are vegan, so it's upsetting enough to consume dairy (even just one bite if accidentally in the dark) but we were polite knowing it was an honest mistake. The waitress said "well you just keep it I'll put it on your tab. And I asked actually could we just have the fries we ordered instead? She leaves and 40 minutes later asks us if we ever got our fries... we said nope. She puts them in and then we get the fries. At the end we are charged for two mozzarella sticks (about $20) and our two drinks with automatically added gratuity). I asked her kindly if she could print a new check with our two ordered drinks and fries. She said "it's the same price" I said actually it isn't and these are not the items we ordered. At this point I feel this is intentional. We get a new check with mozzarella sticks, fries, and both drinks. I never ordered those cheese sticks, and now after all that I'm still being charged gratuity tax and for cheese sticks. Also the fries were cold by the time we got them. Great entertainment! This was my first time to a comedy club and I was thoroughly impressed. We saw Aries Spears here and he was great! One of the best comedians I've seen. We showed up about 30 mins before the show was supposed to start and there was already a huge line to get in. They opened the doors late due the the last show going over but once they opened them we were at our table within mins. The food was great! We got BBQ Pork nachos and Sweet potato fries. I have no complaints there. The atmosphere was pleasant, it didn't feel overly crowded. Only complaint I had is that the show went almost an hour past when it was supposed to so we didn't get out till after midnight. read more

Went to Funny Bone, Short Pump Mall, to see Josh Blue. Speaker badly distorted on the side I am sitting on. No one can understand what is being said. So I move, 2 seats behind me and 2 over, where no one is sitting, to a empty seat where the speaker works. Only to be told that it doesn't matter if the speakers are not understandable, I can't move to an empty seat. WHAT???? Also 18% gratuity added to bad food. read more

The funny bone is attached to the mall, making it safe and easy to find parking. All of the employees that I encountered were helpful and friendly, no issues with service. We were seated toward the front, which I believe was an upgrade to our ticket, making it a nice surprise. It can be crowded, but not so much that is uncomfortable, the bathrooms are easily accessible and clean. We did not eat here, but did have drinks, they had some drink deals that were nice. My biggest an only complaint is that they refuse to serve you anything but bottled water, meaning that you are paying for the privilege of drinking water there. I absolutely have no problem paying for anything however, it seems a bit much to me that if I would like to try and stay hydrated in conjunction with my alcohol consumption, that I be forced to additionally, pay for bottled water repeatedly, I'm a big water drinker, so this was offputting to me. I was told that "we are a venue so we can get away with this." read more

First visit there on 4/14/12 to see Earthquake. My first impression of the place was that the line to get in wasnt handled organized. They were checking ids, and looking in purses at the door, only to slow you down and then check your ticket a 2nd time at the 2nd door leading into the seating. The person checking tickets changed 3x as i was standing there and seemed to be asking a million questions as if he didnt see the other 25 people waiting in line. Once inside and seated it was very crowded, and although i was lucky enough to be seated in the back row and have more room, i could see everyone else packed like sardines at the closer tables to the stage. Our waiter, Eric was the absolute worst, most annoying waiter Ive EVER had in my life, he kept coming back every 10 mins asking if we wanted a drink or food. Regardless of the fact that we told him no each tme he came back. Are they paid based on what we order or something? It was borderline harassment.. And to top it off, he came back 30mins before the show ended and rudely said i need you to pay me now and gave us our checks. He had zero personality, so his tip was given accordingly... Nada. Oh and lets not forget my shock and surprise when i looked at my receipt to see the martini I ordered was $16????!!!!!!! I was like wow... Thats an expensive drink no wonder he kept coming back pushing drinks on us. I sure hope he gets a cut of the profits the way he was peddling the food and drinks lol. Best part of the show was that Earthquake and his openng act Dez were hilarious.. Loved them and after the show Earthquake came outside and took pics with his fans. That was great. I was happy to jump in and get one. Overall, the experience was great, simply because it was my birthday and I was determined to have a good time... Terrible experience. So we went for Date Night and had a great dinner at another restaurant. We are seated and folks around us arriving at the same time have drinks and food. No waitress. After 20 minutes, I ask the hostess, who is bitchy also. No apology just, I will go and find here. She didn't want to hear that we waited. Eventually a waitress came over and took our drink order. Almost 40 minutes for a drink. The manager came over and half heartedly apologized and then came back with free tickets for another show, not sure I will use them. On top of this, a forced 15% tip for this terrible service. I would have argued about the tip but just wanted to get out of there. The main complaint I would have with the Funny Bone is the way they pack you in like sardines. You are literally elbow to elbow when sitting. If you need to get up turning sideways to inch your way out will leave your butt floating across your neighbors table. If you're a two top they will sit to strangers at your table with you. I have had some great people get seated with me, but also some duds. Just luck of the draw in that aspect. They are in a great location in the Short Pump Town Center. Easy access and lots to do before and after. We actually ate at Firebirds before the show. Funny Bone does have a full menu, our server informed us that their menu was new. I've eaten there before and they had normal pub food. It was always OK, but I thought a little overpriced for what you got. They also have a full bar. Got a couple of Pale Ales during the show and a water, bill was $13.88 INCLUDING TIP, make sure to watch your bill, they automatically add a tip. No beers on draft though. Best thing is if you get on their mailing list you can get free tickets from time to time. How we went last night. I enjoyed myself! I came to see Ginger Billy and it served as an introduction to the renovated comedy club. It's MUCH bigger than in the old photos on their website. Entering and getting seated was quite smooth, and the food service staff was top-notch. The baked pretzel app was hard to keep my hands off of. My fried chicken breast was juicy and not greasy, and my friend's chicken-BLT had a perfect char on the grilled chicken. The club is conveniently located, with plenty of parking. Pay attention to the recommended arrival time in order to get your food served prior to the start of the program. read more

Thanks for the tip that it is near Dick's Sporting Goods. The stage is small and the seating area is also not very large, maybe 150 people can fit in here. Each seat is with a table and they try to cram as many people in as possible. Still it isn't terribly uncomfortable and most seats have a good view of the stage. The most annoying thing was the waitress/waiters asking if you want a drink constantly. The comics are hit or miss. The opening acts were much better than the headliner for our show. We received 5 dollar ticket promo was unaware how to get tickets upon arriving so we asked the bartenders and host and was told we would be taken care of. At the end of the show we were charged 20 dollars a ticket which was never informed to us. We visited the Richmond location 9/23/17 for Aries performance. Pricing for the talent is great and we had a great time. However, here is where the but comes in. Be aware that 15% gratuity is mandatory. We were not aware and I doubled tipped at 20% in cash. You can ask, why didn't you see the check before handing the card and cash tip? Well, they interrupt the show (lights out) to deliver the check and you are paying in the dark. Even the comedian made reference that it was rude of them to do this during the show. The break down on the charges and mandatory tip isn't clearly viewed until the run of your card. Our drinks were weak but worst than that they were served to a different table. When the table guest mention that was not are drink order, the server said keep them and walked away. We were next table and heard this. Then the server returned about 2 minutes and said "I'm sorry, these drinks belong to the next table". He picked the drinks up and return them to us. We requested that he remake them but I swear he just switch straws. He returned way to soon. The food was cold (yes they were busy, but food is their business). So the total bill came to $84.50, $10.20 of that was the mandatory tip. Drinks average $12 and served in small thin glasses. Not impressed. Food and drinks, plus poor service gives them a low star. We are going back but we will eat and drink elsewhere or water for the show. Note: I enjoy entertaining my family when we are dining and spending money and tipping is what I will do, but if you want my business act like you deserve it. If your staff can't hire a fast paced environment, train them or hire more experienced servers. This was not the acceptable. This place is conveniently located in Short Pump mall which is either good or bad depending on your preference. I've been to TFB ton of times and the shows have been great - they choose some pretty good comedians. The service and management on the other hand is sadly on the lower end and the assigned seating is pretty tight if you're not in a booth. I've had delayed orders which is always annoying but yet and still, I appreciate and understand that the waiters are working their butts off having to take orders and service everyone at pretty much the same time. People like to eat during the show and be finished by the end. My hats off to the chefs back there whipping it up, geesh! They recently changed their menu and the food is a bit pricier. There's survey and texting opportunities to win tickets which is cool. If you've never been, definitely experience it at least once...Laughter will forever be good meds! read more

If you're coming for the laughs (which, who wouldn't be?) it's great. However, if you're coming for the food and/or "cheap" drinks-you will be sorely disappointed. We used to order appetizers, but seriously, their food leaves A LOT to be desired. We ended up grabbing dinner upstairs and Rock Bottom Brewery, and just getting drinks this time. It was WAY cheaper (get wine or beer, those $15 cocktails just are not worth it!) and we got better food. I've been avoiding this place for a long minute due to our not so good experience last time. But come to think of it, I'm pretty sure we had free tickets last time so I don't know what I was complaining about. Back then for the free tickets I need you needed to get them in person? then arrive to the club at least 45 minutes early. (They used to call you about the tickets.) Now they just email you about the free tickets and for a $10 ticket I paid a $4 service fee each. Around $8 I paid for two people really ain't bad. Saved $20. As far as I can tell you can now roll up any time that you want. It's still as cramped and dark as I remember. We got so lucky - even though it was completely full except like two tables a table was empty next to us so we could breathe haha. They do have a 15 per cent auto gratuity to each check. I got a martini for $12 which came out to be $15 after tax and tip. Reminds me of Miami haha. It was a good sized drink and tasty. Club itself looked nice if a tad basic. Anyway there were 3-4 acts tonight. They were all so hilarious I almost literally died laughing and my sister literally fell off her chair at one point (she was stone cold sober like always so it was not alcohol that did it.) Around two hours of entertainment tonight. They also have a food menu which I did not try yet. Anyway you too can sign up to get free tickets online somewhere on their site. I remember way back when I had to fill out a paper for it, now it's all modern. If you ignore it being cramped and dark and just focus on the comedy I think you will get good results. read more

Let's break this review into two parts: Restaurant -- It should come as no surprise that the food is overpriced, low quality and service is terrible. If you are coming to a comedy club for a good meal then you deserve exactly what you will get for exercising such poor judgement in dining. I understand an entertainment establishment has to make money somehow and most nights ticket sales probably barely cover paying for the act so food and beverage markup has to pay the bills. It's just a shame that the kitchen and waitstaff have very little enthusiasm for selling the experience of a quality entertainment venue matching the prices. Comedy Club -- Expectations are already low for a comedy club in a mall and it amazes me that they rarely even meet those. Most of the time the acts passing through this club are fairly weak and every now and then a true gem of a comedian will accidentally get booked for this venue. When that does happen you can expect an awkward crowd with at least one, but possibly two individuals of a drunken backcountry southern stereotype to heckle an otherwise talented comedian and throw off the entire routine. The audio, visual, lighting and decor of the club is dated but at least it doesn't smell of cigarette smoke anymore. Overall you are best to save your time and money unless you really want to see a particular comedian or someone offered you free tickets. read more

I visited the funny bone last night. Tuesday turn-up. My friends and I went to see the Fifty Shades of Men show. The show itself was awesome and I would recommend it for a great ladies night. The Funny Bone venue is small in my opinion so the show was sold out. I will start with the drinks. I had the Gummy Bear which was good. I don't remember what my friends had but they liked their drinks as well. I also ordered the blueberry habanero wing basket. This comes with 10 wings friesand some coleslaw that I didn't eat because I'm not a fan of any coleslaw. The fries were your average fries.The waiter stated that the wings were delicious and spicy. The wings I had were not spicy at all but again it could have been me because I eat a lot of spicy foods. Overall, the food was okay. It's nothing to really get excited about especially for the price. The food and drinks are a little expensive for what you get. Maybe eat before the show and just have appetizers and drinks. The wing basket is not even on the appetizer list. Parking wasn't bad at all. I would suggest using the parking spaces by Macy's unless you want to walk. The venue is conviently located in the Short Pump mall area. This is maybe my third visit here and I will come back depending on what show is going on. My boyfriend and I came here for the second time this past weekend. We purchased our tickets a couple of hours before the show and then walked around Short Pump and had dinner. We came back about 40 minutes prior to the show starting, which was apparently really late. We were seated at a four top and told to sit on one side for the time being since we might have another couple join us if it got busy. When the show started my boyfriend moved to the other side of the table to give us more space, and a couple of minutes later a server came along and rudely told him to move back beside me, that they had two more people that needed to sit. Even though we were watching the show it was still very awkward having this other couple so close to us. Plus they cram the tables in so tightly that we could hardly move without bumping knees with the couple, or the people behind us. We spent over $100 for drinks and the tickets, which were $23 a piece. Both times we went the headlining comedian was so drunk they were relying on fart jokes and cheap laughs. The first time the comedian couldn't even stand straight and keep weaving back and worth while he slurred into the microphone. Not the establishment's fault necessarily, but it's not worth paying the exorbitant prices on top of it - I can go to a bar and watch people make asses of themselves for a lot cheaper. read more

Went to Ali Saddiq, since we saw him on Bring the Funny. He was fantastic and the two warm up acts were pretty good also. Having said that, I do feel the drinks are overpriced and the fact that they automatically add a 15% gratuity. Also, you need to get there really early or really late. We were put at a table with that sat four and right after the first opening act, two people were put in front of us and one was tall enough to block the view of the stage. It's been over a decade since I was last in a comedy club. Some friends had free tickets to the 7:30 show (ordinarily $15/each), so went with them. Here are my observations: RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE DRINKS While waiting for the showroom seating to start, we ordered drinks at the bar. I ordered a vodka & grapefruit and my date ordered a rum & coke (both with the "rail" liquor brand). I asked if there was a happy hour going on. There wasn't , but the bartender said if we order our drinks with double liquor, we would save a dollar over the cost of ordering two drinks. Without thinking that through (it would have been better to have the two drinks and pay the extra dollar), I said "okay". Our two drinks arrived in a normal size glass. The price: $26!!!!! And there was no way in Hell those drinks had double liquor. My date and I drank them down easily, and tasted very little liquor. What a rip-off! RIDICULOUSLY TIGHT SEATING We were seated in the showroom near the stage, but not against the stage. All the tables were jammed near each other and once everyone was seated, you couldn't move... seriously. I'm a fairly thin guy, and I couldn't squeeze between the tables and could barely get through the aisles once everyone was seated. I felt sorry for the heavier people or anyone who is the least bit claustrophobic. RIDICULOUSLY SLOW SERVICE Once seated (about 45 mins before showtime), our waitress was quick to take our order, but then we didn't see our food, drinks... or her... for almost 30 mins! Moral: make sure you're well fed and hydrated (or intoxicated if you prefer) BEFORE coming to the Funny Bone. PRICEY SO-SO FOOD The food at Funny Bone isn't cheap so, having been already gouged for cocktails at the bar, my date & I decided to just order a couple appetizers. Our friends ordered a couple entrees. Conclusion: portions are smallish and taste is just "okay". Not worth the money. STUPID ANNOUNCEMENTS BEFORE THE SHOW STARTS I realize it's been a while since I've been in a comedy club, but what's with the idiot announcement "instructions" before the show starts. "Turn off your cell phone, no talking at the table during the show -- it's rude, no photography or recording, no shouting at the stage" etc. What is this... an amusement park ride or a comedy show?? WAITRESS INTERRUPTIONS DURING THE ACTS Periodically during the comedians performances, our waitress would stop at our table to ask us questions, like "Are you through with that plate? Would you like more water? Can I take that? Is there something else I can bring you?" While ordinarily this type service would be expected and appreciated, when a comedian is in the middle of his/her set, and your train of thought/ attention is suddenly diverted-- time & again -- to answer waitress questions, we ended up missing a lot of jokes. Quite frustrating. BAD COMEDIANS This comment is directed more to comedy clubs in general, than the Funny Bone in particular. Few comedians can have you laughing their ENTIRE set. There's always going to be lags where a few jokes don't strike you as funny. Sometimes these lags can last for 5 mins or more. Yet in a comedy club setting, you have to continue giving the comedian your valuable undivided attention even when he/she is sucking. The setting doesn't allow you to change the channel, or easily leave the room, walk around, or even converse with others at your table. You're stuck there starring continuously at someone who isn't all that funny. At times it can feel like some type of punishment. TIP AUTOMATICALLY ADDED TO YOUR BILL When you receive your bill at the Funny Bone, the tip has already been added to it. The bill is small (receipt size) with small type, and difficult to see in the dimly lit club. I'm sure almost half the patrons end up double-tipping as a result. HERDED OUT LIKE CATTLE After the last comedian is finished (there are usually three), patrons try to squeeze out of the tightly packed club with it's tightly packed tables. You enter the crowded aisle and, like cattle, slowly move toward the one exit door, into the parking lot. If I'm lucky, it will be at least another decade before I have to go into another comedy club. Instead, give me the Comedy Channel or HBO, ANY day! read more

I've been there twice (July 7th 2019 and Jan 9th 2020) and will never go back. The first time I was there my friend and I ordered water and triple dip trio. It took 45 minutes to get the tap water without any ice (apparently they ran out of ice ) and another 45 minutes to get the chips and dip (was given to the wrong table, wouldn't have even known had I not asked where it was). The dip was cold and nasty and I'm still not really sure if it was hair or artichoke I pulled out of my mouth The second time my daughter and I ordered a Coke, nothing else, just Coke and yeah that was $20 . I paid $200 for the V.I.P and sure had to wait our turn for the meet & greet. They did it by rows so we waited an hour for our row to be called to stand in line for another 15 minutes. We drove over an hour and I asked if it would be possible to slide in with another row so I could get my daughter home to her newborn. That was a no go, I mentioned others who he had let slide in (one being our table mate) and he said That's Only For The Sick And Elderly. ok, that's fine, (my tablemate was neither but whatever) So an hour later we get call to stand in line and while waiting (still) Jay Z was playing over the speakers and one of the waitresses walked up to the door guy and said Wrong Genre Of Music For This Crowd, Look Behind You and he said I Don't Give A F*ck , They Can Get Over It, I Play What I Want .... excuse me? racist much? The prices are outrageous, the restaurant is dirty, the food is suspect and the staff is very rude. In 6 months I have given them close to $500 for basically $50 worth of service and treatment. First time visit for the Charlie Murphy show on a Saturday night. Obviously, he was hilarious, so this review is absolutely about the venue. Getting tickets was easy. I purchased them from the box office to avoid the $5 per ticket service charge, since I was buying several tickets. Unfortunately, though, you are not assigned seats at the time you purchase tickets. I guess you have to show up early if you want good seats. When we showed up about 15 min before showtime there was a sizeable line. By the time we made our way inside and shown our seats, that's where the disappointment started. The club was obviously packed to capacity. Tables were almost on top of each other they were so close. I literally did not think we were going to be able to physically wedge ourselves into the chair, but we made it work. I was only slightly uncomfortable for the entire show. The posts about the waiters being overzealous is totally true, but as a drinker, I would normally appreciate the refills. Unfortunately, though, my margarita cost $17. My mom's specialty frou-frou martini was also $17. Add a Stella and a Long island for the boys, and gratuity included: we paid ~$60 for a single round of drinks. In Richmond, VA. I've spent less in Miami for a round of drinks. I was actually pissed off at this display of ridiculous upcharging. Of course, there are no prices on the drink menu, and they encourage you to order more. When I saw Dave Chappelle at the Carpenter Center, it was a much more pleasant experience. read more

The comics have always been good when I went there. The main problem is how they run the place. Tickets are usually $15 but there is a hidden "electronic delivery fee" of $3 per ticket that they don't tell you about. And you can't call the box office and order your tickets through there either because the bogus fee still applies. Their drinks and food are REALLY expensive. All of the drinks with liquor that are on their menu are served in a take home glass (free advertising for them... but you're paying for it). I ordered a Purple Haze and it was $13! in a SHORT glass! PLUS 15% mandatory gratuity. So not only do you walk out feeling like you've been raped but they let the comics pitch their products (CDs, T-Shirts, and whatever else). Update: I went there again last night and ordered a Pepsi. She asked if I wanted the one with free refills and I agreed. When the bill came, I was SHOCKED to learn that it was $8! FOR A NON-ALCHOHOLIC DRINK! And after they throw their mandatory 15% tip on there, the bill came to almost $10. INSANE! read more

Like most cabaret/comedy venues, the seating is packed in tight. We arrived 15 minutes after the doors opened and still ended up in the second-to-last row. Grateful that the seats were on multiple levels. Our server was personable, but do not bother ordering food- ours took close to 90 minutes to arrive and the quality was really, truly awful. If you ordered a grilled shrimp Caesar for $13, would you expect to get those tiny, baby popcorn shrimp? Um....no. When our bills arrived, the lights in the room were still dimmed, but I'm glad I double checked or I wouldn't have seen that the gratuity was already added in (especially since the credit card slip had a blank to write in a tip). read more

My review for the Funny Bone is very mixed. After having been many, many times now over the course of a couple years, I fear my mixed feelings have only intensified. As far as the comedians go, I would rate them between 4 and 5 stars. I always leave laughing. The food, service, and atmosphere? Absolutely awful! I don't typically say this about places, but I feel it needs to be said about this one. I'm quite easy to please. However, not only are their prices insane, but the quality of the food sucks, the wait staff is rude and pushy, you are left wondering whether or not your food will ever arrive (or if your credit card will ever return after paying), and you are packed into very small tables like sardines (I felt cramped and I'm a small framed person - only 5ft!). $3.50 is what you will pay for what amounts to a few very small sips of soda poured into a low ball glass (roughly 8-10 ounces) absolutely packed with ice - with NO refills! Oh, but your wait staff will be sure to tell you that if only you purchase the $8 souvenir glass, then you are entitled to a standard size glass of soda that you would receive at any other dining establishment and get refills (if your wait staff ever bothers to come around to do so, which is rare in my experience)! I'm sorry, but you want me to return to your establishment multiple times, correct? Why on earth do you think I'd want a whole set of your souvenir glasses? I just want a regular sized soda. Soda syrup for the fountain machines is cheap. Its not like I'm asking for a large, refillable glass of cocktails. The food varies from okay to just downright bad. I ordered the Mac & Cheese with Chicken last night and it was absolutely disgusting. Not only did it come out barely warm (with cold spots), but the cheese sauce tasted like cheap processed nacho cheese sauce and the chicken was so overcooked that it was like tree bark. Again, I'm not hard to please, but this was just ridiculous. We ended up paying over $50 for 3 people to eat and this was after a $25 voucher was applied. I really honestly don't know whether I will be back - even if they keep sending me free tickets like they have been the last few times! We have brought guests before who have turned down ordering food only to be treated rudely. So, it seems coming only for the acts is frowned upon at this establishment. I'd go and order just a soda and an appetizer, but who wants to pay $8 for a decent sized, refillable soda and then end up with yet another souvenir glass to add to an unused collection that will most likely end up being sent to Goodwill? My biggest tip for people is to sign up for there text alerts to get free tickets. I can't recall ever having paid to go to there. So for me it is what it is. A free show... Where the money is definitely made up by the cost of the food and drinks. But I go to the funny bone not for food and drinks. It's for a good laugh! For the most part the line ups are pretty good. Typically you get 3 comedians during the show, and at least one will get a laugh out of you. Don't think I've ever left having been disappointed by a complete line up. read more

Oh, Funny Bone. You bring such great acts to this establishment, yet don't respect us enough to give us adequate and comfortable seating space. Please, please, consider a renovation or redesign. We all love comedy and support this establishment on the regular, but it's annoying to be damn near playing footsie and shoulder bumping with people you don't even know just because the seating is designed poorly. The last show I visited was Kountry Wayne in Feb and he had the audience laughing about how we were all sitting in a cafeteria listening to comedy...so funny but true LOL! The waitstaff can barely get through the aisles to take orders and serve food and drinks. Service is pretty slow here too, so over the years I've learned to not anticipate dinner because you can wait a while. So, I tend to just stick with ordering a drink, and even that won't be a sprint. I dislike how toward the very end of the show, the waitstaff brings out the receipts and then collects them all at once. It took like 15-20 mins to get our cards back. I was seriously considering calling my bank to cancel the card after-like WTH took so long with the cards? They include gratuity automatically, which is totally fine IF you actually do something to earn a gratuity. Bringing me a bottle of water and then the check 2 hours later doesn't exactly constitute service, but just another example of the broken service. Like, how do you not come to check and see if I needed to order another or anything else? Probably because they can't get through the aisles to check on you..hmmm. They need to look into process management and figure out ways to improve things like ordering and payment and most importantly timeliness of service. All those things can kill your comedy vibe. This is pretty much the only place in RVA for comedy, so Funny Bone please don't take advantage of your monopoly in this area and offer the quality establishment a location in Short Pump should offer. read more

Got promotional free tickets to the Friday night show on December 28th, 2013. Comedian BT was the headliner. He and all of the other comedians were excellent. Dinner was great. Waitstaff gave professional and courteous service. However, gratuity added automatically to the bill, no complementary tap water with your meal and a $3.50 charge for grenadine to make my cola a cherry cola was outrageous. read more

As far as comics they bring in, the place does a great job. Biggest complaints being the room between seats and tables, I understand they want an intimate setting but everything is too close together. The food is near awful and very overpriced for what you actually get. Tasteless, overdone, or cold. I go and hope that this time is different but it never is and I regret ordering anything. My suggestion would be to eat before OR just get a salad... Maaaaybe chips. read more

Ugh. Not good. As many others have mentioned, everything is ridiculously overpriced. We were charged $12.00 for an "electronic delivery fee". What the hell is that?! They really charged me $12 to send an email?! Yes, they did. I should have known that things would only get more disappointing. Again, as other reviewers have noted, the tiny tables are shoved right up against one another. I had to squish myself into my husband so I wouldn't be rubbing the stranger sitting centimeters from me. Also, the drinks were laughably overpriced. If I had known that my Long Island was going to be $15, I wouldn't have consumed anything at all! They also charged me $4 for a bottle of water, and automatically included a 15% gratuity to our grumpy, and incompetent waiter who messed up our drink orders. Screw you guys. PREFACE: I almost never give 5 stars Doors open 1 1/2 before show time and you can hang out at the bar if you like. They start seating an hour before the show. My wife and I where there waiting in line before the doors opened for seating. They offered us front row and we took it. The front row touches the stage (very close, you can touch the comedian it's so close). They have approximately 5 tables that seat only two (Three at stage front, one on right side and one other at end of second row) , the rest are rectangle four tops which you will have to share with strangers if you only have two in your party. OK, so as in most comedy clubs you have a two drink minimum, but here they have a two item minimum. So if you want to get out the cheapest way possible, order two bottles of Deer Park water per person. Each bottle will cost you $3.00 (though menu says $2.50), so each person will pay an additional $6.00 to meet the club requirement. A 15% gratuity is added to all checks . . . I find that perfectly fine too. People, this is a comedy club . . . They have to pay the performers something, they are not a huge venue and tickets are $10-$15 in most cases. What are you looking for, a FREEBIE? I ate at Cheesecake Factory before I went into the show as I was not about to make a meal out of club food, as I knew it was higher than average. They do have some cheaper food though, like a quesadilla for $7 and an Italian sub plate with fries for like $11 or $12. I ate an Italian plate and got a bottle of water right before the kitchen closed around 8:30pm-9:00pm when the headliner came on. Food was average to pretty good, had no problems with it . . . I will say this, other peoples food sure did look good going by my table, especially the HUGE nachos. Also, you can get a bottomless soft drink with a souvenir take home glass to $7.50, well worth it to drink all night. Glass is nice to save as a memory of the night out. The above things are all expected in a comedy club . . . they are almost always smaller venues, have higher prices (to cover costs) and semi-close seating. I found it great. Our server Stephanie was amazing, not pushy, kept our drinks filled all night, was attentive and was very pleasant. I will definitely return. I feel that the reviewers that stated big problems and rudeness may have actually had no idea what to expect to begin with and likely set the tone for what they perceived in the way of service. I found my visit to be little difference than comedy clubs in New York City I have visited, except for the venue size being smaller. Lastly, they had 3-4 comics that were very funny in different ways, but all very good. Thank you P.S. I visited the Funny Bone during the summer and saw one of Steve Byrne's shows. I really like the Funny Bone- I've been to comedy clubs in DC and NY- and the Funny Bone is a happy medium. You can reserve tickets online as well as look up schedules. If you want to grab a bite at the club- simply check off the "will be dining" option. Service is good and so is the food. If you want good seats- you should probably arrive a little early. I got to sit front row for the show and arrived a little over 30 minutes early. Seating is comfortable at the Funny Bone- not as lush as some swank NY clubs, but definitely better than some grimy basement clubs. Plenty of room (I've been in clubs where you are literally sitting on top of people) and I don't believe there's any minimums like some other clubs. Overall- good, comfortable place. Decent prices and good service as well as food. As long as the show you've come to see is good- you proably won't have any complaints. read more

I was slightly disappointed in this venue. I have lived in Richmond for almost 4 years and it was my first time going. I had read the reviews about the over priced food and drinks but missed where everyone talked about the horrible set up for seating. We arrived about 15 minutes before the show started, stood in line for over well over 30 minutes (it was a sold out show, so we were patient) then got seated in the most awkward seats, were were in like table chairs but not facing a table, with our backs to a table and a couple sitting behind us at a table! As soon as we sat down, I made a comment about them not being able to see which made it awkward for me and my boyfriend for the rest of the night. We sat in the "aisle" so waiters and waitresses kept bumping into us and stepping on us as they walked by?! Overall the acts were both great, we got the tickets for a great price, but I would be hesitant about going back to this venue especially for a popular act - that can't be good for business. read more

I have been to the Richmond Funny Bone for years and I just recently visited! I will have to say they have made a lot of good changes. The WAIT STAFF was great! The COMEDIANS were great! The ATMOSPHERE was great! Yes they do have a few rule just like any restaurant. You can't seat yourself but they do have someone that seats you at your table. I don't really like the fact that you have to go back around to get another seat if you don't like the one that they sit you at but after being explained why they do it that way I now understand it is something that they have to do. Since the last time I was there the FOOD has gotten so much better. They have food specials and the Crab Cakes are awesome. I do suggest that if you come you come as a group of 4 then you won't be sat with people you don't know. They also had a bunch of cool new drinks that they didn't have the last time I was there. The Purple Haze is Fantastic. I will defiantly be back soon. I had a blast when I went. Can't wait to come back. read more

Funny Bone - Comedy Clubs Near Me - Richmond, Virginia

We've been here twice, and would only return for someone we really want to see (like our second trip). Our main issue this time was around the VIP pass for the act. We paid $100more per ticket to stay after and meet and take a pic with the act. After the show a group of drunk women tried to stay for the VIP part but didn't have tickets. So they flirted with one of the male employees and he just gave them tickets. So lady's, don't buy a VIP ticket, just show cleavage and flirt with the bus boys. I bet the talent loves this practice! The general experience both times: - you're packed in like sardines. The have regulate tables, the line the Iles with chairs. My wife and I got a table where I had to sit in the booth and she had to sit in the isle so I was looking at the back of her head, and this so with the expensive VIP passes. - Food: did you eat before you came and just want some water for the 2+ hour show? Great! It's only $4 a bottle + expected tip! This is horse shit and they know people will pay because there isn't another option - the talent: The first time we went was to see someone we knew. There were like 7 stand-ups that night and we only laughed for a few of them. The second time we went for a specific act. Others who have gone here told us it wasn't funny at all. If you're anywhere north of Richmond I'd just go to a club in northern VA or D.C. Much better experiences Al around IMO. read more
