Came in today for a birthday party, was really busy on a Saturday afternoon. Looked pretty well organized, my kids had a blast and got very tired and sweaty doing the ropes. Looks like a fun place. I like that they offered food options at a very reasonable price. Looks like a great place to take the kids on a rainy day or a cold day in Chicago. read more

Called and spoke with very friendly customer service agent who quickly confirmed availability that same day in few hours. Mentioned I was bringing a 2 yr old and she indicated there was plenty for them to do in a 1 hour session. I didn't have to pay for me to enter which was nice. So $12 later my niece was harnessed Into groin wrapping rock climbing gear set up and off on her adventure. Kids have to be 35lbs and up to rock climb but she found it rather challenging- arms not strong enough to lift herself and the center harness moved directly in front of her face each time so she held onto that instead of the small levers on the climbing wall. (I'm Thinking it's better for stronger kids ages 3 and up)- but...she still had fun trying to get up onto each obstacle so no regrets. There was option of climbing up a large bean stalk tree, wall of tires, spider web robes or just to free fall hang from ceiling robes swing and knock down blocks. After 25 minutes trying each one she then ran to the play fort area which is kinda of a supped up Mcdonalds playland with slides and climbing on pads. Super cool and she loved that and found a friend to play with. Not too big that you worry where they are inside either- overall I'll be back with older kids. Great for the 4-15 yr olds. Clean inside offered food and ice cream too. read more

Yesterday was our first visit and we will definitely be back! It's hard to find activities that are equally fun for my 6 year old and my almost 3 year old but this place fit the bill. The facility itself is spacious, bright and clean. I think part of the reason it feels so open is because they limit capacity quite closely. They open at 10am but when my friend and I arrived at 10:30am we were told we couldn't get in until 11:30am. I was initially annoyed but they're convienently located in a outdoor shopping center of sorts and our hour wait time was filled with early lunch at Potbelly's. Like other indoor play centers, you need to fill out waivers but you can (and I did!) fill it out online before arriving. My only real complaint was not understanding how to hook the climbing safety lines to the harness. They have an employee fit each child with a safety harness but I think that might be a good time to have them show parents how to use the equipment. When we started our play time, there was really just one adult employee floating around and some older boy kept helping my son get attached. He's only 6 and wasn't doing any of the advanced rope courses but still I was a little concerned he wasn't hooked in quite right. All in all, I think this is great alternative to pump it up or jump zone when the weather is bad. On our next visit, I will probably pre-book our play time through their website to avoid a wait and just pay more attention the harness/hook process. read more

Funtopia website has false advertising for the Ultimate package. Clearly states "2 tries on the Giant Slide for ALL guests". While there, only the birthday girl got 2 so the rest of the kids were disappointed. Talked to the party host and front desk and nothing was done. read more

Awesome awesome awesome! I loved rock wall climbing and ropes courses in high school and it rubbed off on my daughter. Funtopia is the first of its kind in the Chicagoland area. There are arcade places with a rock wall or two attraction but this is a whole place is dedicated to just that. With maybe close to 20 auto belay walls with different fun themes, you get that existing feeling to challenge yourself and beat them all. There is a series of soft towers of different heights you climb to the highest one and jump off. There are a couple of timed walls with start and stop buttons. There are a few lighted walls where you push the flashing buttons as you climb up to light up the entire picture. There is wall where you move the puck around a maze as you climb up. The ropes course was the perfect challenge for my daughter. It wasn't too easy or too difficult. She felt secure enough and knew she wouldn't just fall to the ground. There was staff there to help if the kids get stuck. Not only do they have walls and ropes, but they also have tires and ladders to climb up, a drop slide, 2 jump in the air attractions, a free fall drop, a caving system, a 2 story jungle gym and a toddler soft play area. This place has it all! They have "the cave" you can walk, duck, slide and crawl through to explore with a guide. My daughter loved the balls filled with water they found inside. The parents can follow their child throughout. They have plenty of tables where you can rest up with a snack from home or from there. The second floor was a large area of party tables and rooms. The staff was very polite and very helpful with each attraction. Each member had a decent sized designated area so they did have to run back and forth a lot to put on and take off the belays as it got crowded. They all did it with a smile though. We're already planning our daughter's birthday party there in a few months. Can't wait to go back! read more

I honestly went here with the mindset of -it's going to be chaotic so just suck it up for 2-3 hours and deal with it. To my surprise it went pretty smooth. The young man helping my family with the room setup and the kids into the harnesses was so attentive that I had doubts he would be around so much because there were so many parties going on at once. He did a phenomenal job and took his job seriously. Pros: * kids had an amazing time * so many workers ready to help when u need it on the ground floor * it really was a safe environment for the kids, padding's was everywhere and kids weren't dropping out of nowhere * well organized at how the parties are set up when it comes to play time vs. time to eat * the price for everything was cheaper than I expected Cons: * if you have younger kids age 3 and down, the obstacle course/playroom cage I like to call it, can be a little unsettling for a parent as older kids play rougher * probably should have bigger bathrooms on the 2nd floor read more

This is a great way for my toddler to burn off some steam- but it's not the cleanest and could use an overhaul in the toddler section. My son had a great time there, but I couldn't get over the general smell of urine in the play structure and even worse in the tunnel system. And there was so much debris, hair, dust in the tunnels that I couldn't wait to get home and clean off! Of note, we were the first ones there in the morning, so this shouldn't have been an issue from other kids playing before us that day. This place is a great idea, and I love that there's climbing walls. However it really needs some cleaning. read more

This is a nice place to spend a rainy Saturday morning. The kids were getting antsy and wanted to go out but there were really no places to go other than an indoor mall, if they wanted to run around. Funtopia was a good solution and actually not that expensive. For my 6 and 3 year old, I kept them in the soft play area. I later learned through conversation with other parents that the rules are pretty lax and they could have gone over to the other activities. But the soft play area was plenty of fun for both of them. The space is huge and comfortable, with a second level where you can watch the kids playing. There are rooms for parties, which seems like a good idea. The price for both kids was $18. We ended up spending about 1.5 hours there, so that's actually a pretty good deal. Not a place I would go to every week, but it's definitely a nice place to break up the monotony on a slow weekend. read more

Great spot to take kiddos for the day! I took my nanny kiddos a few weeks ago and they had a blast. My only reason for only 3 stars is that it can be difficult to book or get the time you want if you just show up. I think the system could be improved for sure. Also the food options are pretty blah. There should be more snack options and healthy choices too. The place could have been cleaner too but other than that it was fine. I recommend this place for older kids. read more

Went on a Monday. Not too crowded. $16 = 1 hour of access to the climbing walls + caves + jungle gym + ropes course. BE WARNED: IF YOUR CHILD IS NOT YET 52 INCHES TALL, S/HE CANNOT USE ROPES COURSE. A lot of the sitting area (maybe for birthday parties) are closed off. Understandable due to COVID. Would have appreciated it if employee explained better what the $16 entails. We told employee it was our first time in Funtopia but she did not explain that what we paid for ($16 for 1 hr) included the climbing walls in addition to the caves and jungle gym. She just pointed towards the slide (which was in the climbing walls area) and said it was extra charge so we thought the whole climbing walls area was off limits. We only played in the caves and jungle gym during the hour. I thought it was lame for $16 to be only given access to the cave and just the jungle gym. It was "ok". Honestly, my 6 yr old would have had the same amount of fun at the Little Bear Park down the street. No snacks available in the place so bring your own. You can sit in tables/chairs but please clean up after yourself. The cave smelled like shoes/feet. Good job on keeping the place clean, though. read more

I was having a great time with my son up until the attendant began to correct me. I was encouraging my son to go a little higher and follow through on one of the apparatus', showing him that he'd climbed higher on the other walls and apparatus' so by comparison he could do it and that he'll be so proud of himself if he continues on, only for the woman to tell me not to push him, yada yada. I paid for my sons use of the facility, not for parenting advice. read more

absolutely horrible to try and get a hold of someone. left a message last week, no reply. left a message two days ago, no reply. called yesterday, no reply. called every few hours today and no one answers. once someone answered and told me to leave a message and immediately hung up. this is ridiculous. If your kid loves to climb and explore, this place is for your family! There's a fun obstacle course that you have to be at least 54" to try out, for which my 6 year old is not tall enough yet. The lines can be somewhat challenging to clip into and out of, but there is plenty of staff on the ground to help out. You can potentially get grease on you if you try to help out your child with unclipping the line. Still worth it. Kids can pretend they're cavers. Wearing a hard hat and holding onto a line, they can explore a mock cave and try to find the tunnel out. There are lots of structures and with interesting features to climb on. Even if your child isn't the most advanced climber, there still will be something for them to enjoy. My son loved climbing up the mock city buildings. He felt like a superhero, especially when he got to "fly" down from the tallest building. I had one very happily exhausted child after this place. Would highly recommend. read more

It's a nice, clean, spacious facility with several climbing activities for young children and group activities. It's nice that the harnesses are child friendly, so that they can (in theory) unhook/attach themselves to a specific climbing obstacle. read more

We got invited for a party and when I arrive this staff member said, when he is ready we can place his harness my son got shy and didn't want to harness & The lady was on the floor ready to assist. Once my son warmed up to the area. I went to the front desk to get his harness again and then this other lady told me he had to weight 35 lb and my son is 3 yrs old and a couple month in and weight 33.5 and they didn't let him play. THE WAIVER does not mention anything about having to be 35 lb. So one of the staff member was ready on the floor with the harness ready to put the harness with no scale, the other staff me never told me to come get the harness when ready . and the other one staff member had the scale and told him now. It just sucks because we drove 45 mins. I had to SEARCH for the rules upon arrival. I would have thought the waiver would mention that. My point it's, everyone should be on the same page and tell me this needed to get done upon arrival instead of confirming he would get his harness. read more

Been here twice now. First was for a Little Yelper's Event so I didn't need to reserve online and the second we did reserve/pay online and had no trouble signing in when we arrive. Both times my son had a blast. As some reviews have said, they've changed their harness hooks so kids might be able to hook themselves up to the safety ropes. It took us a bit of time, but my son (6 yrs old) figured out the hook/rope pretty well by the end of hour 90 min time slot. There was a lot of staff on hand to help if we needed it--one particular was helpful as he gave us some tips on how to make the hook/rope easier to manage. The whole facility seemed clean (including bathrooms). There's a lot of different climbing structures with different themes and difficulty levels. My son's favorite was definitely the buildings--you climb up each individual building and rappel on down...I'm sure he was channeling his inner superhero. We visited on a Saturday morning and had the opening time slot, it wasn't that crowded yet, but soon there were 2 birthday parties playing. If you are ok with them having sick employees handling your childs birthday party this is the place for you! I dont understand why they would allow an employee to come to work sick working with kids, especially with the issues going on right now with the spreading virus. I could not have been more disgusted when I saw her coughing into her arm and then serving the kids pizza, then coughing in her arm and serving cake. Now we have to make sure our kids didnt catch anything from her. Then to top it off there was a party of a bunch of maybe 5the grade boys hiding in the caves and swearing not letting any other kids in. They really need to have better eyes on their guests and employees. read more

My kids liked it here. They rent shoes and sell socks (gym shoes are required for the climbing). The tunnels are smelly. They have a variety of walls for the kids to climb in. I don't remember the prices but it was reasonable. It's more focused on the climbing than some other places that seem to be more of a jump/ball place, with the climbing as a secondary activity. I wish these kinds of places existed with such easy access when I was a kid. It seems so fun. read more

Okay for older kids. Definitely not designed for little ones. There's almost nothing for them to do, and the things that are there either require parents to crawl through tiny tunnels with kids or not be able to see them at all. Many of the things ostensibly for little kids are also too scary for them (super fast slides, dark caves and tunnels). It's also probably more worth it in winter, but we went in the summer to avoid the heat outside only to find out that it was hotter inside than out. We would have been better off going to the park and saving the money. read more

Not the friendliest place. Had my granddaughters bday party here and it cost me a bundle!! The kids are hooked up to a safety rope in order to climb the walls. The problem came when trying to find a staff member to come over to unhook them when they lost interest at we're done climbing. Good facility. Fun for kids. Some things to fix. We have been going to Funtopia in Glenview for three years with my son (now 7). The facility is quite good with many different climbing walls/routes (I would guess 20) along with a cool ropes course, and several other play stations with belay devices. They recently switched belay devices that allow more users to be self-serviced (they are not too complex but require a bit of hand strength / skills), which is good. The "cave" system is also fun, considering bringing your own helmet and knee pads. Their equipment has gotten pretty ratty. My biggest problem is their online reservation / payment system. It often does not complete the payment--but gives you no indication of success or failure. I made two attempts on a Saturday to reserve a spot on Sunday, and thought I succeeded on the second try. When I arrived (after a 30-minute drive from the City), I was told we had no reservation. Thankfully, the attendant let us in (they were fully booked). The annoying thing is that my Amex had two $1 charges for my two failed attempts. You get the picture. The online system looks home-grown to me, which is silly. "Canned" reservation / payment systems that work are widely available. Funtopia is probably losing some business because of this issue. I did notice that the staff is mostly high school kids, which is fine. But they might benefit from some more supervision. The climbing walls and other stations are all fixed, and it would seem a good idea to assign a set of 4-5 stations to one staffer, and have them stay. I noticed that the staffers were everywhere, wandering around, assisting with clipping and unclipping. At times, they would all be clumped on one side of the facility, while kids elsewhere would need help. It just gives the impression of poor management. read more

If I could give this place half a star or no star I would, if you're a teen wanting to work here bro DON'T. I worked here for 6 m@therf!ckin months and quit because they treat their employees especially TEENS like sh!t. The place is filthy so is the bathroom. They fired me and I'm only 14. Everybody at the front desk are horrible, so so horrible. They have attitude for no reason and in some cases roll their eyes because I'm somehow annoying. I remember a coworker who was 15 at that time and they were hella disrespectful for whatever reason. If you decide to work here do it at your own risk because that's how bad it is. There most of the time under staffed because they keep firing and people quitting. I have a friend who now works there and they are planning on quitting because they also said everybody at FUNTOPIA are rude,ruthless and no touch in humanity. A word to the Funtopia people: please, if you feel like your not being treated fairly QUIT. This work place is toxic. DO BETTER. And if your a parent don't let your child work here. Terrible customer service. My children were very disappointed when we discovered our online booking did not go through. There is no way to know our reservation was not processed until we arrived. Customer service from the front desk and manager was lackluster at best. The manager closed the door in my face and told me he was in a conference call. My 10 & 12 year old both loved it. The older child recommended it as she was there on a field trip before, the younger child was her first visit. We purchased the 1.5 hour time for each child which was the right amount. I also bought each child 2 trips on a slide which they loved. Although for the money spent, this should be included in my opinion. Also I recommend booking time over the phone, not the website. You need to book 4 hrs in advance on the website, but you can have a shorter window over the phone. I am giving this place a 5 star review because it was the most engaged they have ever been for 1.5 hrs. Words to the wise, especially to parents of younger children. Be prepared to follow your child and help them latch and unlatch their harnesses as they move from station to station. The 1 thing that keeps them safe can be a bit tricky to master right away. read more

Went here yesterday for my daughter's birthday. I booked a 2 hour all inclusive session for myself, my husband, and my 2 kids, it was around $100 which was more than we wanted to spend, but my daughter really wanted to go here. We were pleasantly surprised to have the entire place to ourselves. The employee that was helping us was awesome, I think his name was Roger. He was extremely helpful the entire time, and made my daughter feel comfortable enough to climb all the way to the top of the walls pretty quickly and she is terrified of heights. We all had a great time and can't wait to come back. The only downside is it's kind of expensive so not something we can do regularly. read more

The older kids had fun. The area for the younger kids was not as fun and interesting, but the whole place was filthy! From the bathrooms to the harnesses they use to climb. From the helmets to the cave/tunnel it smelled horrible and there is no excuse for this. There should be a cleaning crew that disinfects the place every night. Good place to get away from the city of Chicago crowds and mayhem but also a long ride

I was there with my 8 and 3 year old for a family birthday party. The smaller kids area where the cave and climbing gym is smells like pee and dust. And let me tell you, the dust smell is visible to a naked eye.. There's a 3 inch layer of dust on the outside structure of the gym and the cave roof (which is visible from the top of the climbing gym). The roof of the cave also has a view of empty juice boxes, candy wrappers and unmatched socks. read more

Let me start with the positive. The facility is clean and the kids had a blast. I really wanted to love this place but unfortunately it has some major growing pains. The staff at the front desk has no clue what is going on and looked mostly dazed. When I asked if my child could do the climbing wall even though the party host only had them in the soft play area she looked at me like I had grown a second head and sent me upstairs to the party host who sent me to her. The party hosts were equally as bad. They never announced it was pizza time so we just had to guess time was up. They didn't serve the kids pizza, the parents had to when they noticed the pizza just sitting on the cart. The climbing wall area was understaffed. There was one poor guy running around trying to help all the kids. He was amazing but needed lots of help. read more

We booked a time online to play for my 3 kids and 3 friends then showed up and they told us they gave the spots away because we didn't prepay. Nowhere on the website did they mention that. Needless to say my kids were upset!! I had to book again for a later time for just my 3 for 4:30 When we arrived the lady said I booked for 6. But lady you told my friend you gave those away. Then she said its only on the hour. So the next available slot is 5. I told her I booked online and it said 4:30. She smirked and did some stuff on the computer. 'How much did you pay ??!' She asked surprised like I overpaid or something. Then she chuckled offering no explanation. Scribbled something on the ticket and finally let us in. What a horrible stressful experience. Anyplace that is in the business of disappointing children will likely not get too much of my business. I'm gonna definitely try to sway them away from this place. But that also seems unlikely since cold winter months are ahead and there's not much in leu of indoor entertainment around here. Shame! read more

Not a fan of the jungle gym -- at least for younger kids. First, it was way smaller than I anticipated. I thought it was this large structure but once you climb up the ramp it's only the top portion of that area. Underneath is a cave exploration section. Very small! Second, there were older kids all over the baby area and in the jungle gym, so I didn't feel safe with my baby being in that area or my toddler running about in the jungle gym by himself. Was good to try it out - was hoping to find a good indoor play place in the Glenview area. It seemed like the jungle gym was being advertised as this extra, large play area for younger kids - you pay to use it and get a whole separate sticker to be in there and can walk in and just use that anytime. It's definitely not. I talked to the front desk to see if I could get a refund (we stayed about 10 minutes) and though they couldn't refund us they did credit our account with $10. read more
