When we return home, our pets are happy, healthy, and clean -- and so is our house! Michelle is the best! We have two adopted, female guinea pigs, and it's not super easy to find boarding for our girls! My friends and most people we know have dogs and kitties, and I can't trust family or friends to care for guinea pigs when they have another large animal in the home or they simply don't have experience with guinea pigs! Luckily, Michelle is experienced with guinea pigs, as she mentioned she had them growing up! First off, she was recommended to me by another business when I was frantically searching around Yelp for pocket/exotic pet boarding. It was super easy to communicate with her in advance. She gave me reasonable rates, and she used a very handy online portal to communicate with me, confirm boarding dates, and later, for payment! We brought our girls, with lots of blankets, food, and their cage, to stay with Michelle for 5 nights! They were more than comfortable on the dining table! I asked for daily updates and Michelle was more than happy to send with photos. I felt super at ease knowing Michelle's expertise with all sorts of animals - she is a registered vet tech! We got to enjoy our vacation knowing our girls were in good hands. She even fed them little treats, and gave them lots of snuggle time - per our request! Michelle is a fabulous pet sitter ~ I was a vacationing for one week and she took impeccable care of my lovebird. he had time out of his cage with her family - and was able to fly around . The cage was super clean - and his favorite snacks were given daily Michelle was very thorough - and gave me daily updates and photos of my pets progress He also required medication once a day. and this was included in her fee. After a few not so great boarding experiences, we were looking for someone to come to our house to care for our Bearded Dragon. Michelle WAAAAAAY exceeded our expectations. This was our first time boarding our bird, so I did lots of research to find the best option. We lucked out finding Michelle's Fur and Feather. As a vet technician, Michelle has many years of experience with all kind of animals. She is a great person and professional who is passionate about animals' well-being; she volunteers her time to support rescued rabbits and pigeons. Our parrot can be feisty at times : ) He is also very fast, loves attention, and his out-of-cage flying time. Taking only one boarder at a time, Michelle was very caring and offered lots of enrichment for our bird. She genuinely enjoyed caring for him. She was also very thoughtful about monitoring his nutrition/diet and activity level. She knows about birds (and many other pets), and knows what she is doing. She was able to safely accommodate out-of-cage time for him in a thoughtful way. Michelle is also very organized, and she was very communicative by sending daily reports/photos to let us know how everything was going. This review is extremely overdue, but I wanted to be sure to share our experience in working with Michelle, because she went above and beyond for our family. We were out of state last summer and needed someone to care for our very elderly kitty. Midway through the trip, Michelle noticed that kitty was not eating enough and we ended up asking her to take her to an emergency vet (on a weekend, no less!). Michelle did so uncomplainingly, and took her back home the following day, in far better condition. We received ongoing photos, video, and communication throughout the ordeal, and could not be more grateful to Michelle for her kindness, compassion, and commitment to helping our kitty in her time of need. Sometimes travel plans don't work out. When I broke my bottle of insulin in the airport I knew I couldn't travel outside of the country. Fur and Feathers kept the $210 I had paid in advance and told me I could use it for future needs. However I was dropped as a client before I could utilize those funds for pet care. I feel I was treated poorly and never got a chance to find out if Michelle was any good at pet care. read more

We were so pleased with the service that Michelle provided for our pet guinea pig. While we were on our vacation, Michelle kept our guinea pig at her home for over a week. She is very knowledgeable and has so much experience taking care of all kinds of different animals -- we had the utmost confidence in her skills and ability to care for our very picky and skittish guinea pig. She made us feel very comfortable and asked all kinds of questions about our pet to make sure that she had all the information she needed. During that week, not only did Michelle provide excellent care for our guinea pig and catered to its every need, she went above and beyond. She gave our guinea pig a hammock to lie in (which it has never had before -- but loved it) and provided extra items for our guinea pig to play with. Michelle also sent us updates and pictures to reassure us that our pet was doing great. I think that our guinea pig had even a better "vacation" than we had! I'll be honest. I did not want to write a review for Fur and Feather Pet Care. You see, if I tell you people about how awesome Mishell is, or how I would not trust my cats to anyone else, or how comforting it is to have a certified vet tech taking care of my beasties while I'm away, I just know you'll swarm her and I'll never be able to book her again. So, nothing to see here...look away... In all seriousness, I couldn't recommend Fur and Feather any more highly. If you took Mishell and put her in a forest, within 5 minutes you'd witness a scene out of Snow White, where the woodland creatures would flock to her and sing sweet songs of adoration in her ear. She really understands animals and cares about taking good care of them for you while you're away. One of my cats needed medication when I was out of town, and I didn't worry one bit about it--in fact, I knew Mishell would do a better job at administering it than I would! So don't hesitate! Call Fur and Feather. You'll wonder how you ever could have asked your neighbor to petsit for you (my neighbor forgot to put water in the cats' waterbowl once...luckily we were only gone on an overnight trip! sigh.). read more

Mishell is amazing!! She was super accommodating when I had to last-minute bail on a trip due to a medical emergency.. and then again when we rebooked that trip with only a day's notice. I have to second the other review which said she almost didnt want to write a review, out of fear that Mishell will be too booked. I love her that much and so does my cat! But really, you have to give credit where credit is due, so... Letting someone you dont know into your home is kind of terrifying. For me, entrusting them with my beloved pet is even harder. Mishell is very easygoing, and totally at ease with all kinds of animals and their varied behavior. (She isnt just a Vet Tech, for both domestic and exotic animals... she has spent a lot of time volunteering at sanctuaries in Latin America and Africa, and has crazy-awesome photos of her doing things like intubating big cats.) She is a vegetarian and really is one of the sweetest, kindest, coolest ladies in Oakland... My cat instantly was climbing all over her when Mishell came to do her required pre-visit visit. Cats are generally pretty easy (water, food, poop scoop), and its tempting to ask a friend or a neighbor to look after them. But there is something nice about having a professional come through - just in case something unforeseen happens, you have the peace of mind knowing that they will be properly monitored and well cared for. I have used other petsitters before and had both ok and also really terrible results. Last year, I came home from a weeklong trip to find my poor kitty's face hugely swollen up from an unchecked tooth abscess; that sitter wouldnt even return my calls (or my keys!) for two days, and cost me a lockout fee for my keys AND a trip to the emergency vet at 3AM after a 10 hour journey home. (Fast forward two months, and I also discovered that she had apparently stolen a check from my checkbook, which was forged for $2500.) Suffice to say that I was nonplussed and very nervous about how to find a new pet sitter. How lucky I was that Mishell is back from Africa! There is no one else I would recommend more for pet sitting. read more

In our initial interview, Michelle took us through all the steps of what she would do, asking questions and providing clarifications about things we hadn't thought of (like security protocols, secondary contacts) and she has a warm, personable style that is so important when one is looking for a trusted petsitter. She has a way with animals - our sometimes cautious cats took to her right away. She administered medicine doses and, due to her extensive animal experience, knew more about the medicine than we did. She emailed/texted daily reports on our cats (with pictures), which added to our sense that that our pets were in good hands. We cannot recommend her enough to those needing a petsitter. Michelle is the very best! We just returned from a 5-day visit to the East Coast... we'd been having our kind neighbors stop in to see our two kitties for other one- or two-night getaways but we felt 5 days was a little long for casual visits from neighbors. We asked Michelle to come 2x a day... and her rates were very reasonable! She had instant rapport with the cats and noticed a limp on our smaller cat... probably the result of roughhousing with his brother. Michelle took him to her clinic and got him an antibiotic shot and he's now as good as new. Thank God for Michelle! Even the most observant neighbor wouldn't have noticed that in a quick visit! Our cats are relaxed and happy, thanks to Michelle. We cannot rave enough! We are planning a trip to Europe in October and we are crossing our fingers that Michelle will be available!
