My parents saw her at the shelter back in 2012 and texted me her photo (because they knew I wanted a cat), and I was like "yes absolutely I want her I will come get her." And the rest is history -- it's been 11 great years with my bestie (and hopefully many more). And then a year later, almost to the day, my parents were like "hey let's go to Adopt" the day after Thanksgiving and they ended up getting a cat (their second) for themselves. I haven't been back to the shelter since 2013 when I went with them when they decided to get their cat, but at that time the shelter was super nice and they had several rooms where cats could roam free. It was a nice, no-stress situation to be able to sit on a sofa or on the floor and have the cats come check you out. So many snuggles. And I follow them on Instagram and they continue to do great work and care deeply for the animals they rescue. Definitely check them out if you are looking for a new best friend! The people at Humane Haven are completely obnoxious in the way they screen potential adopters, and are pretty much looking for any possible reason NOT to let you adopt a dog. I was wondering why some of their dogs go months without being adopted. I realized that it was not any legitimate issue with the dogs themselves--in reality, it is the people running the shelter that are the problem. If you're looking to adopt a pet in the area, I would recommend the West Suburban Humane Society (Downers Grove), TLC Animal Shelter (Homer Glen), or PAWS Chicago (Lincoln Park) over this group anyday.

Our last cat passed away a week or so ago and we decided it was time to get another cat and the we were sure we wanted to adopt two cats from a shelter. The prices for adopting are extremely fair (low), they told me they try as much as possible to be a no kill shelter, and they are always looking for people to adopt pets. Seems like there were lots of volunteers, but the people I met were top notch and loved the animals. I got to sit in the cat room for as long as I wanted, and they were knowledgeable about the cats and which ones that would be good with other cats and which ones that needed a home to themselves. I went in thinking I was only going to adopt one, but I left with two because there were just too many sweet cats and I couldn't say no to one in particular. I now have two lovely cats that are so happy to be in our house and are already sleeping on our laps and purring away. I just want to thank the staff because they made the whole process of adoption very easy.

Went to this place for my 1 year old English bulldog and was honestly appalled. First, we walk up…read moreto the door and there's an ash tray filled with half smoked joints and blunts right in front of their business sign. The sign says "do not knock and do not open gate text us when you have arrived" we text them and stand outside waiting for a good while, when we are finally greeted by her teenage son who had previously been otherwise occupied playing Fortnite. He tells us to go through the gate. We get into the shed and multiple of the dogs seem extremely stressed. The trainer does not acknowledge my dog for a while until telling us that he was "not ready" because he is wearing a harness which is safer for the breed as English bulldogs have breathing difficulties rather than a choke collar and that we would have to stand there and wait until the end of the class for instruction. Just pure ignorance. During this time my dog was put under stress and our money was wasted. Not to mention she even refused my puppy water when he was hyperventilating from the stress of the environment.

As a volunteer-run organization, we are doing our best". Which to me isn't good enough, and at what cost? Bringing in dogs from Kentucky and then selling them for $600.00-$700.00 dollars isn't helping dogs find a nice home. Stop bringing in trucks of animals in until you clean up for rescue. They have had several complaints, just look them up. Even their fosters aren't being taken care of or RESPECTED! Until they can clean up their act, there are other great animal rescues out there.
