I know it can be really overwhelming or intimidating trying to find the right rescue or shelter to adopt a pet . And reading can sometimes be the only way for people to get an idea of which might be the right fit. So I wanted to share my honest review of my experience with Darlene and her rescue. I have adopted through multiple rescues in my adult life and adopting through Fur-ever paws dog rescue has been extremely positive. The adoption process was straightforward, and I appreciated that it required a minimum of 30 minutes speaking with Darlene and meeting the pup my family was interested in. Logistics: The cost of the spay/neuter was in included in the adoption fee and they don't require you to have a fenced in yard which many shelters do. This opens the door up to people in apartments or in homes that don't have a fenced in yard to be able to adopt as long as they can provide adequate exercise in other ways. Yes the rescue address is a physical home address because none of these dogs stay in a shelter. They are all dispersed amongst foster homes, including Darlene's home. Some reviews I read before adopting through this rescue. We're concerned that there wasn't a shelter with cages... I think that's incredible that she's able to provide physical foster homes for all of the animals that she rescues. The adoption fees average around $400 I've also reviews left with people expressing that is too expensive... I don't understand how people expect to adopt an animal that's a 10 to 18 year commitment that won't invest $400 into them initially. You're not only paying for the adoption fee (remember this is a non profit) but also the unique experience of your future dog having decompressed and stayed in a real home with other people being socialized and cared for. It is completely understandable If $400 is out of someone's budget but then they shouldn't be adopting a dog at this time. Dogs cost way more than that if you're caring for them properly. Especially rescue dogs within the first few months. Experience with staff and owner: Getting to meet my dog for the first time was a really exciting experience. It was clear that Darlene was very knowledgeable and really cared about my dog going to the right home. Additionally, once we adopted Archie she wanted to stay in touch and get updates and photos with his progress. Recently, I went back to drop off some donations and brought Archie to come visit. Not only was she so excited to see him, but she also bought us his favorite bag of treats and gave us a long lead for free just because she really does care. We got extremely lucky with adopting the best tempered dog I've ever had the privilege of caring for. Even though Darlene didn't create my dogs temperament, she did provide a safe environment for him. So he could build his confidence, learn to trust people, socialize with other animals people and children. It gave him a foundation so he could move onto his forever family. This is my personal experience with this rescue and the staff. I hope my honest review helps future adapters make an informed decision on whether this is the right fit for them. Run as fast as you can from Darlene at Fur Ever Paws. I inquired about a dog that she had named Abby. She arrived a week ago I was told. I was told that she was 2 years old and very timid and shy. I scheduled an appointment to see her this morning. When we arrived, we were taken into the garage for a visit. All of the facts that were listed on Abby's profile were false. Starting with her age, reaction to new people, owner experience, potty trained and good with children. None of these were true. See attached photos. The minute she put Abby into our arms she immediately said she has bad teeth and that she is more likely 4 or 5 years old. Abby appeared to be used solely for breeding. She was scared to death if you touched her. She seemed to be completely out. Behind her big brown eyes, there was nothing. Abby will need a special caregiver who can help her overcome the horrific life she had lived. I am sure Abby is older than 4 or 5 years. Darlene said her teats were still swollen and that she most likely just had a liter. We inquired about testing that has been done such as heart worms, lymes, etc. Darlene said they don't do those tests. She never asked any questions to qualify us. We were not asked to fill out an application either. The only thing that seemed to matter was that we were willing to pay. We inquired about her eye weeping and she that breed of dog eyes weep. When we told Darlene that we needed to talk it over she grabbed her phone and said she would let the next people in line know. She had told me there were three other people interested in Abby. I asked her if Abby was in the house with her and her family dogs and she said no that she could not let these dogs run free in her house. These dogs are not being fostered they are being kept in crates. Darlene stated that herself. I asked her if she was potty training her and she said no she uses pee pads. The adoption fee was $600.00. Adoption fee is shown to include heart worm tests on 6 months or older however Darlene said this was not done. According to the website they get dogs in every week from a no kill shelter. I felt like the entire 25 minutes we were there it was like a used car salesman trying to sell us on the little dog. We were very sad to leave her. We cried on the way home. Hopefully the right person comes along to help her overcome the trauma she has experienced. p.s. when we got home we looked Abby up again and Darlene had changed her date of birth from 2022 to 2020. I have rescued 4 pups from Fur-Ever Paws over the past 2.5 years. I couldn't ask for better pets. Some of these dogs come from terrible situations and are given a 2nd chance at life by these wonderful people. The owner and the specific people whom I rescued my 4 from have become family to me. I have friends who have also adopted 7 other dogs between them and they couldn't be hapoier with their decision. read more

Dishonest about where the puppies are obtained and the stories behind them. Adopted a puppy that was infested with worms and after 3 trips to the vet and $375.00 later the worms were cleared. Returned because the puppy had severe diarrhea which she needed a shot to help clear up. $1,500.00 was spent in the first week between adoption fee of $400.00 - which who knows what that went to...and vet bills. I feel they are dishonest because they always have only puppies. Read reviews that date years back - others feel the same way. When I asked a simple question and not even rudely I was blocked. I feel very deceived by this place and people who run it. I love our dog but this is more a $$$$$ hungry run place than caring in my opinion read more

I didn't have to fill out a application before I met the puppies and decide on one. The foster advised me that the puppy I was interested in had a bad case of kennel cough and I couldn't see her. I decided on a different puppy. The day after we took her home she became very sick with a upper respiratory infection. Took her to the vet and spent $130.00. I text the Foster and he replied that he was sorry and take her to the vet. I never heard back from the foster or anyone else from the agency. We named our puppy Maddie and she is doing well. Maddie is a very sweet puppy and is a great addition to our family. read more

Adopted puppy-10 weeks old, and 2 days later he was diagnosed with Parvo. He has to be hospitalized and the bill is to exceed $3000.00. Reached out to Jim/Joe-changed his name the second time I spoke with him and he told me to "READ THE CONTRACT" very nastily. I feel as if I need to rescue the animals from this rescue foundation. Obviously, they do not care about the animal's health. Jim/Joe cited incorrect information that I confirmed with a veterinarian at the animal hospital. Where is the accountability? This rescue center is taking advantage of people's love of animals and turning it into a profit while taking no responsibility for their actions. My puppy came from a litter of 12-what happened to them? Jim/Joe actually told me that stress causes Parvo. Steer clear of this rescue foundation, they need to be shut down. read more

Filled out a application and heard back from Darlene within 24 hours. Made a phone call to Jim, that still to this day, has NEVER been returned. A few days after I made to call, left a comment on their Facebook page followed by a message finally from Jim that the dog we wanted was already adopted out. As both Jim in the message and on the Facebook page what dogs were available because they clearly do not communicate or update their site often. Still days later nothing. We have found a dog else where and this 'group' just seems to like to waste people's time and energy trying to adopt a shelter dog. I would recommend going else where. read more

I was interested in a dog at this rescue. When I called, I was told I was next in line to see the dog. I later found out that the first person did not come to see the dog, so I was next to see the dog. I spoke to the rescue and said I would return the call on Wednesday night to set up a time to see the dog. I called Thursday (Thanksgiving day) to verify I wanted to see the dog. I never received a call back. I sent an application and e-mail and still never heard back. I called on Friday, anticipating going to see and pick up the dog and I was told the dog was adopted. She said I never called (I called x2). I can't express my disappointment that the dog we wanted was gone and I was never notified that there was an issue. I was told they do same day adoptions, which is fine, except if I tell you I'm trying to make arrangements to get there due to the holiday and you don't tell me there's an issue, I expected the dog to be there. The women was rude, told me she wasn't going to argue, did not offer a good explanation, and said have a good day and basically ended the call. I don't want others to have the same experience, so beware when dealing with this rescue. I have dealt with other rescues, so I'm not a rookie at this. read more

This is by far one of the worst dog rescues I've come across. Where to start.......... My wife and I found a puppy on their site we called and asked about a certain puppy to be told that he was adopted that morning. Then we get a call back 24hrs later saying "I was confused with which puppy you were talking about he is in would you like to come see him." Obviously a lie and the puppy was returned now that I look back or extremely disorganized. We get to the foster and there were three puppies. The foster was extremely dirty. The garage of the foster had 4 grown men drinking beer with there shirts off, throwing cans and what seemed like having a burping contest just to paint a picture. The puppy was acting a bit lethargic but we chalked it up to, it's late and he just came from an adoption event so he must be tired. We pay the $300 for the puppy and we get the vet papers and we were assured the puppy was current on all vaccinations and he was perfectly healthy. We take the puppy 24hrs later to the vet and get boosters and tests done. Only to find out the puppy has Parvo and it was going to be about $1,000.00 a day for the vet to treat it and it could take up to 10 days. Also the treatment wasn't full proof it was about a 30-40% chance to stop the parvo but the puppy would be more likely to get sick through out its life because parvo wrecks the puppies immune system. So only a few days into owning the puppy we were told we might have to spend $10,000.00 on the puppy or it could die. After about $700 in vet bills and buying toys and other necessities for the puppy we called the rescue to return the puppy and get our money back. The foster told us to contact the president of the rescue which we did. She kept arguing with us saying the vet test must be wrong and it was a "False positive" even after explaining to her we went to two vets with 60yrs of experience between them also having the Head of the Department of Homeland Security K-9 commander at that time check the dog as well coming up with the same diagnoses. After much arguing and her being extremely rude and unprofessional finally agreed to take the dog back. We took the dog back to the foster, I'd like to add the foster was over 2 and a half hours away. We get a call the next day from the president asking us why we didn't leave the vet papers too, I explained I didn't know we needed to leave them, then she replied "It's common sense how could you not know." I told her we would be more than happy to release them to her after we get our refund of $300 and she snapped and agreed and hung up the phone on me. I get a call back 30min later, I say hello and the first thing I hear from the president is "I'M NOT REFUNDING YOU ANYTHING TILL YOU RELEASE THE VET PAPERS TO US" followed by some select curse words. I was shocked initially because I couldn't believe someone would speak to someone this way especially the president of a rescue. She then threatened us with a lawyer. We eventually got our money back. Well the $300 for buying the puppy not the vet bills This company is more interested in making money than anything else. Never use this rescue. I'd give less than 1 star if I could. read more

One day after I obtained a puppy through this organization, he developed severe diarrhea that was clearly more than stress-related. I took the dog to the vet and he was diagnosed with infection and inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. The person who was fostering the dog had told me that the stools had been a little loose--due, she assumed, to de-worming medicine. But the insurance company--a month-long policy came with the dog--called the diarrhea/infection a "pre-existing condition" and wouldn't pay me anything. Despite my having signed a no-warranty contract with Fur-Ever, I called them to see if they would help me with the bill of around $280. The woman I talked to was very defensive and pointed, not surprisingly, to the contract. I was hoping for a more sympathetic ear and perhaps some financial help. But no go. Even worse, four days later, the dog developed a high, life-threatening fever and had to be hospitalized for 3 nights, costing a small fortune. (This time, the insurance did help with a fraction of the cost.) The doctors didn't know for sure what the specific virus was, but they suspected distemper. We may never know the cause. Fortunately, now, a month later, my dog is in good health. Today he is being neutered. I suggest that clients exercise great care in dealing with this organization. Unbeknownst to me, I received a puppy that was not well. Also be aware that it costs a good deal to have a dog neutered. read more

My husband and I went to a adoption event for fur-ever paws at Petco we adopted a puppy and we were told that the puppy came from down south and that's about it they did not explain anything to us they were rushing to take the payment so they could leave we told them that my husband never had a dog before and they didn't say anything. So husband and I brought all the stuff from Petco and took the puppy home and it was a good experience up to the third or fourth day the puppy got real sick with diarrhea ,not eating nor drinking water so we took the puppy to VCA they told us to feed her a bland diet and if she still not eat force-feed with a syringe and we did that she got a little better but not much then on Mother's Day we took her to the Vet they did a complete exam on the puppy. My husband got upset due to all the money we put out and we only had the puppy for one week and this was not a good experience for my husband. So my husband returned the puppy to forever paws and they made it seem that we wasn't taking care of the puppy I would never ever miss treat an animal. All I can say NEVER AGAIN will I deal with them. read more

A close friend of mine just adopted a 9 week old puppy from this organization. Within 48 hours they had to rush the puppy to an emergency vet who advised them that the puppy was critically ill with Parvo virus. The puppy was adopted from a Pet Smart adoption event. After several attempts at contacting the rescue organization, they said they would resume responsibility of the puppy and they transferred the puppy from the ER vet to their rescue. The adopter has since made several requests for updates, pictures or possible visitation and have been refused. They have provided no information on the puppy's treatment plan or course of action and keep simply stating "she's been quarantined." How many other animals were infected by this contagious disease at this adoption event and were other adopters made aware of this situation? They are refusing to answer questions posted by the adopter and when they do reply, their answers are very vague and offer little information on the condition of the puppy. read more
