I have only been here for nail trims, but based on this experience, I wouldn't hesitate to bring my pup for full grooming. My dog is old and has severe mobility issues. She can't stand or sit for very long. I've been taking her to the big box store grooming, and despite me telling them she needs to lay down, without fail, they put her on the table with the noose around her neck and before I can say anything, she falls down and is left hanging by the neck. My first visit to Fur Factory, I explained her issues, and they took her back to a table. Here we go again, I thought. But instead of putting her standing up, she gently laid her down and got her nails trimmed really fast. I've been back a number of times, and they are always patient and kind to my old pup. They also trim the pad fur, which should be standard but isn't at some places. They also do nails trims on walk-in basis, and the price is less than the big box. You will love them! read more

Looking for a new groomer as the previous one left an inch-long abrasion on my dog's face and then denied it. I called Fur Factory and mentioned that I just need a cut as I typically bathe my dog and comb her out right before bringing her in. She is tiny and doesn't do well with industrial size blow dryers. I let her know that I prefer to come first thing in the day if possible and wait for her as opposed to crating her. This has never been a problem with any groomer (they call it a straight-through) and I did this with my last dog over the course of 15 years (sadly, that groomer retired). At first she said I could bring her in first or last thing in the day and I said sure, I'd be glad to do that. Then all of the sudden, she did an about face and turned me away and said her grooming facility would not be a good environment for my dog because they are so busy and there is always too much going on lately. She said her groomer has too much on her plate or something to that effect and then discussed her own health issues, which I tried to sympathize with but she kept talking over me. I tried to explain that my dog loves people and she would not be a problem, but the woman kept talking so fast and continued talking over me. As I was trying to get a word in and let her know how she was coming across, she just hung up on me. I feel for anyone with a medical condition however I have never been treated so rudely by what is supposed to be a professional business. No potential customer deserves that. My dog is a very sweet small dog who loves people so I don't understand the immediate judgement from someone who doesn't even know my dog. It made me feel just awful. Based on the conversation first thing in the morning that left me feeling disrespected, unheard, dismayed, and disheartened, and the judgement she made on my sweet little girl, I would not recommend them at all. It was such an awful experience and left me quite unnerved. I've never encountered anything like it. Something appears to be going on there. They may have been good at one point but to me it now seems like they have too much going and do not care about getting new customers, treating people with respect, and in fact turn them away. read more

They told us it would be 2&1/2 hours tops and they would call to let me know when my fur baby was done. It got to 3:00 and I decided to give them a call, they answered and let me know that it would be 2 more hours. I called again at 5 and they said they were "finishing up". When I picked up my pup she looked exactly the same and did not have clipped nails. My pup is extremely good when it comes to grooming because she loves the attention, so there was NO reason for them to take this long. I tried this place based on good reviews. Not sure if I was there on a bad day or what. When you walk in the place is small, hair is every where on the chairs and floor. The lady who came to get my dog for grooming seemed distracted by another customer who was upset about her dog talking to another person. She seemed irritated and I felt a bad attitude from her. I showed her a picture of my dog's previous cut, and she immediately told me that's not your dog. I found her behavior very odd. My dog's hair cut was uneven and not good. read more

Took my little terrier her for a few months, to see their one hand-stripping person. She did a decent job of hand-stripping, which is a specialty type of grooming for dogs that have a wiry outer coat, but she is extremely difficult to work with. She refused to give us a Saturday slot, because she said it was a specialty service and she felt she had the market power to refuse us weekend slots. So we had to schedule weekdays weeks in advance, when we had no visibility on our work schedules. Then, when predictably, work things came up and we had to reschedule, she gave us a ton of grief. Ultimately, it is not worth it- visit the other places in the area that do hand-stripping (Annandale Pet Spa and Affectionate Pet Care, to name a couple), if that's what you're looking for. read more

I'm unsure why the other reviews post about glowing praises for this place. Maybe it was just a bad day but I wasn't very thrilled about the service here. The regular salon I go to was fully booked and opted for this one. They were able to get in my two dogs on the same day and time on Jul 9th. Made the appointment in late June so this was a surprise as all other salons had been booked for months out. There were no requests for veterinary papers or confirmations of rabies vaccinations prior to the appointment and wasn't asked for my email over the phone when I made the apointment either, which was odd. I guess this should had been the first flag because any reputable salon should be vetting clients if the dogs will be sitting in cages for several hours :( When I arrived on the day of, the lady (didn't get her name) was nice, seemed a little rushed though, but I remember she'd only been working on one dog when I walked in. When she asked to confirm what cut I wanted for the dogs, I started explaining but she more or less cut me off and seemed to want to rush me out, which was really strange. Also note, she was not wearing a mask!!!! Huuuuuge red flag. Should have just walked out. I wasn't able to pick the dogs up and had a family member pick them up and the dogs were clearly traumatized. To begin with, the full body trim I requested for one of the slightly longer hair dogs wasn't great. It didn't seem like anything was cut except the problem areas (bottom and paws). But even so, the fur on the paws were still too long and the rest of his body didnt even look like it was touched. I ended up doing the rest of the cut myself. This is where I noticed something was wrong because normally when I give my dog a little trim, he's chill and enjoys the pampering. This time? He was SHAKING and shivering, completely terrified. This is NOT the reaction I want from my dog after a salon trip. Our other dog also hardly looked like she got a trim as I'd requested a trim on her bottom to clean up the area. I just moved here and I am very particular in the way my puppies are treated. I have two miniature Yorkies. One of them suffers from extreme anxiety. I don't like to leave my puppies at a groomer for hours. My puppies suffer when they are away from me. They become distressed with groomers and the vet. I will always try minimize the time of their distress. Fur Factory not only treated my babies with love and care; they were done with them within 1.5 hours. This is amazing! My babies were not traumatized with long waiting hours. They were smelling good and beautifully groomed. I am so happy with this place! read more

A very sloppy haircut for my goldendoodle. It was our time going to Fur Factory and it was also our last. I acknowledge that my dog had some matting when I brought him in this morning (poodle mixes are notorious for having them), but I didn't expect to find mats AFTER the $87 four hour grooming session. I had to trim uneven strands of hair on his ears and face and cut/brush out four forgotten mats. It also looks like they cut his eyelashes which I didn't ask for and would NEVER ask any groomer to do -- eyelashes serve a purpose. When I picked my dog up, he was barking in a panic which I've never heard before so I was definitely not going to bring him back when I found all of the mats. We're taking the ride out to South Riding from now on for a less expensive but very clean grooming in half the time. Very disappointed with our experience at Fur Factory. read more

I would first like to address Kim's 1 star review. She obviously uses Yelp... So if she looked on here, she would have seen that I posted a picture of the prices long before she posted. Yeah... It's weird that in this day in age some establishments do not have websites. However, "old school" people still exist which is why I posted the picture of the prices to help everybody out. I think that was a very unfair 1 star review. I'll most likely be taking my dogs back here later today. I have 2 chihuahuas who won't stay still for me to cut or smooth out their nails. My girl will stay still for any groomer doing her nails but my boy... He's a different story. This is the first place to do his nails where he remained mostly calm without having to be fed a treat every second. This place is significantly better than PetSmart grooming. The last time I went to PetSmart I felt like my boy was in danger of getting hurt. You could tell that they were young and inexperienced. So, so very glad we have finally found a compassionate and talented groomer for our pups. Like most people we are pretty careful with our "fur babies" and we pay attention to their demeanor when picking them up from a service. When we picked up our two dogs they trotted out like they were leaving a puppy day camp, smiling, happy and not the least bit stressed. The cuts were also perfect, just as requested with no burns, cuts or hot spots. They smelled good, they looked good and were no worse from the experience. The staff was friendly and compassionate and clearly liked their furry customers. When greeting you at reception they take the pup the we're working on from the work table and place them in a holding crate - this is truly in consideration for the safety of the pets. We have a mini goldendoodle and have seen and heard of bad grooming experiences where they come out with a poodle haircut (of course not the end of the world since the hair grows back but I want my fur baby to look like a doodle). She was very thorough in asking what type of cut I wanted, how short around his face, ears, behind, and body, and made sure she covered everything before I left. How have I lived in Reston and Herndon since 2003 and not known about this place?!?! Fur Factory is located on the back side of the Tall Oaks Shopping Center so in all the times I've visited Paradise Nails and Mama Wok, I've never noticed the tiny sign that said Fur Factory or even really known what it was if I did see it. Thank you Yelp for bringing it up when I looked for groomers in the area. I used another family-owned groomer in Herndon quite a few times but hated the experience and stopped going. Then I tried PetSmart but I'm convinced the groomers there hate animals. Now that I've found Fur Factory, I'm hooked. I took my 11 week old Shih Tzu to see the groomer for the first time because he had so much fur and was so hot. After meeting Susie, I was confident he was in good hands for his first grooming experience. She was so nice and accommodating and really cares about the animals and their experience. When I picked him up just two hours later, he looked so cute! And you could tell he had a good experience because he was happy and bouncy. I have 3 Shih Tzus and now that the first one had such a good experience, I'm bringing the other 2 in immediately for appointments with Susie. The prices are also really reasonable especially when compared to the other groomers in the area. Quality, value and people who care about what they're doing. I took my cockapoo puppy to Fur Factory and I'm not happy with the result. I showed them pictures of the cut I wanted and they didn't do it like I asked. They gave her a poodle cut with very short hair around the snout and a poofy dome on the top of her head. It looks terrible. They kept her for 4 1/2 hours, mostly in a cage surrounded by barking dogs. She was spooked when she left and had to go to the bathroom really badly. I told them she was a puppy and couldn't hold it for more than a few hours. She's generally an easy going dog and this was the most upset I've seen her since she was a tiny puppy. From now on I'm only taking her to Belly Rubs & Suds in Ashburn. She leaves there looking good and feeling happy. They're done in less than two hours and take joy in dealing with animals. read more

I love these ladies! They take walk-ins and even tho my dog comes every blue moon they know his name. They are always friendly when I walk in and greet me and my dog . They love dogs and you can tell. I feel comfortable leaving my dog here. On my last visit they even noticed my dog's skin was dry, and used an oatmeal soap to bath him and help his skin. Our dog has been groomed at Fur Factory since 2012 when she was a puppy. We love Dawn and her kindness and work ethic. She was so sweet to our puppy and so nice to us since the first day. I remember I had taken our puppy to a different groomer about a mile from our house, just to introduce her to the experience and they were awful. Then I found Dawn and Fur Factory, a 30 minute drive for us, on a good day. She trimmed our puppy's nails while sweetly holding her when I came in just to check out the place. We never looked back. She has been grooming our dog for over 8 years now. I write this review now because having had to groom our dog, a Havanese, during the pandemic, made me embarrassed to realize I hadn't posted a review before. I thought I understood how much work it was to groom a dog... I had no idea! Dawn and Fur Factory work very hard, are awesome at what they do and, most importantly, do it with so much kindness. He is a medium sized labradoodle and the cost is about $85/each time, but it's well worth it. He looks great and I will return. I have had him bathed or groomed at a couple other places, but it's never as good as when he comes home from the FF. The owner/groomer is always polite and courteous. I called to inquire about bathing pricing for my 11 month old malionis X puppy Since it was not disclosed on their website. He's right at 80 lbs. Dawn was not friendly and immediatly stopped me mid sentence and said they are not taking dogs that large. Upon mentioning that her website shows pictures of a Great Dane and golden retriever which weigh the at last 80 and more she said there is no time for dogs that size. Their mission statement on their website states "we treat all humans and pets with respect" is clearly just an advertisement and not their actual value. read more

We had our golden doodle who visited this place for fur cut and nail grinding. About the fur cut, it was not the best compare to Petsmart Reston. They did not actually did nail grinding but they cut the nail. Charged us for Nail Grinding falsely. Biggest deal breaker is this place accepts cash only. Overall, I would not visit again. :( read more

The grooming was great and the staff was friendly, no complaints there. The downside is that we get the same grooming for the same dog at Vienna Pet Spaw for $30 less and he's happier there. Usually he comes back from his Spaw Day triumphant and full of proud smiles. He bolted out the door from Fur Factory and collapsed into a nap when he got home and just gave us sideways glares and big sighs when we tried to talk to him. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure he was treated just fine at Fur Factory, but if we can pay less and get a happy dog at the end if the day, then driving a little further to Vienna Pet Spaw is a no brainer. read more

I've seen that they maintain a file for him too, with pictures of his haircuts and notes that they've written for how we like certain parts of his body to be cut, so it's clear they always pay good attention to our requests. We scheduled an appointment for our dog early on Saturday and promptly dropped him off. I was surprised that we were told we could pick him up four hours later. We called before we went over there to learn that our dog wouldn't be ready until 1.5 hours later than expected. We had to ask that they take our dog out to potty, because they made no mention of giving him a potty break after being cooped up so long. When we picked him up, we realized that he didn't have access to any water while he waited. As soon as he got home, he drank two bowls full. We will not be returning. Please do not put your dogs through the stress of being crated for long hours without water or potty breaks. What is the point of making appointments, especially early in the morning, if the dog isn't going to be groomed until 5.5 hours later? read more
