I'm writing this review to express serious concern about the lack of transparency at this shelter. We recently adopted a dog who has a history of aggression, including the potential to bite, yet none of this information was disclosed to us. It has become clear that the shelter prioritized rehoming the dog over ensuring he was placed in the right environment. To be clear, this is not the dog's fault--he has experienced trauma, and his behavior is understandable given his past. But it is the shelter's responsibility to inform future owners of any known behavioral issues so they can prepare appropriately and keep both the dog and their household safe. We reached out to her with a rescue situation and she pretty much told us to kick rocks. She seems to care more about out herself than the animals she supposedly tries to help. I am not one to leave negative reviews but I just wanted to share my experience. My boyfriend and I have one dog currently and applied to adopt another. It seems that this dog was adopted to another family (which is wonderful, no problem there). The real issue is with professionalism and communication, or lack there of. We were in contact with Jennifer and completed an application for the dog we were hoping to adopt. Jennifer let us know that another family would be meeting this dog but that she would be in touch regarding the outcome of the meeting. Instead, we were completely ghosted. No updates, no response to several emails, completely rude and unprofessional. As a young couple trying to adopt a dog we would love the feedback on either why our application was not chosen, or just any updates so we would not be getting our hopes up on an already adopted dog. We have sent 3 different and polite follow up emails over the course of a week and haven't gotten a single response. We are led to believe that the dog we applied for was already adopted, we can only infer this as we haven't gotten any replies from Jennifer. read more

I have always preached "adopt, don't shop" but Jennifer Bird has turned me off of adopting from I shelters. We adopted a cat 5 years ago and he recently took off, I messaged them asking if he had been chipped because I couldn't remember. I was immediately berated for letting him get out "per my contract" and if I can't prevent him from staying indoors I need to return him. I blocked them because I was already upset about my cat. The next day she texted pictures of my contract to me, threatened to sick their lawyers on us and told us we would be responsible for the attorneys fees. We recently adopted a dog from Furkid Rescue and returned her to the rescue 10 days later. Not because we didn't want her, but because we adopted her from an unprofessional rescue organization. When the dog went missing I was outside with her trying to get her out from under the deck and made a noise that scared her and caused her to run through the fence. We immediately started searching for her. We had all of our immediate neighbors out looking for her, two posted her missing on a neighborhood Facebook page and on a Pittsburgh-wide lost and found Facebook page. After searching the woods near our home, I came home, got my phone, posted another missing report on the township's Facebook page, touched base with my husband and other neighbors who were looking, and returned to searching the woods near our home. By the time we stopped searching Saturday night, I had a verbally abusive and accusatory email from the owner of Furkid Rescue, Jennifer Bird, in which she states that we were supposed to have immediately contacted her. I responded and explained what happened. Sunday morning, I had another accusatory email and she began posting accusatory statements on Facebook when she announced the dog was missing. She called us irresponsible, uncooperative, and said we breached the contract by not contacting them as soon as she went missing. I responded to her post with a more recent photo of the dog and explained that we are a loving family and how she went missing. Jenn berated us in response to my post and continued to write negative things about us on Facebook. While she was writing disparaging comments, we went out looking for the dog again. As we were walking home from our search that afternoon, we saw a car drive down our street slowly, pointing at our house. We saw this same car two other times that Sunday, as well as others slowly driving down our street and pointing at our home. A neighbor also told us a black Challenger was loitering on our street with their windows cracked and watching our home. At this point, we called the police because we were concerned about our family's safety. At this time, with the disparaging comments online, abusive emails, and now potential sharing of our information and watching our home, we also realized it would not be psychologically safe for any of us to keep the dog when found and we wanted as much distance from this group as we could. I sent Jenn an email ould return the dog if found and asked her to stop sharing our address if she was. Her response was that we should be grateful they weren't in our backyard. At this point, we had no further written contact with the rescue and tried to find the dog on our own. My husband and neighbors offered to help the rescue get the dog after a sighting in the cul-de-sac on our street (which we found out about via Facebook page, we were not told) that following Monday. The dog ran from the rescue and was missing again. I looked for her again Tuesday but had no success. Wednesday morning, I took my other dogs into the woods behind my house and looked for her, again with no luck. I had just finished brushing burs out of the dogs when my next door neighbor called and said the dog was in his clearing at the top of the hill. I sat down in the middle of the yard with treats for her and called her. She looked at me and whined and backed away when I stood up. I went inside and brought our dogs out and sat down in the grass with them. At this point, the dog whined again, slowly came down the hill and came down and started playing with the dogs. I stood up and walked to the yard, three dogs following me (my neighbor closed the gate behind us), and into the house. I called my husband and then IMMEDIATELY notified the rescue. My husband met Jenn at the police station due to her aggressive behavior towards us and he filed a police report. Jennifer's behaviors caused emotional distress for me, my husband, and our 8 year old and 5 year old daughters. We feel that her threat to our psychological and physical safety is unjustifiable. BELOW BOARD RESCUE ORGANIZATION - BEWARE FurKid Rescue South Park, PA rescue organization is not professional. I applied online per their application program Saturday morning. My husband visted their "adoption event" in person twice (Saturday/Sunday) to adopt the dog that caught his heart. I immediately sent email, message and phone call as well as completed their adoption form my husband was directed to - all Saturday early afternoon. Melissa from the organization responded Monday that I had no application on file. I forwarded her copy of my confirmation of the application (which they don't send, but I'd snapped a photo of it prior to exiting the system). She then immediately stated "Hi, unfortunately, we cannot move that quickly. We are all volunteers with fulltime jobs, families and pets of our own. Thank you though for your interest!" I replied "Understood. If is meant to be, it will be. I will no longer push and await your reply. Thank you." However, just literally a minute later Melissa denied adoption "Actually, I just reviewed your application. We unfortunately cannot move foward based on your training methods"?!? I was quite shocked and confused and requested more input and asked her "Please be more specific" as in my application I listed that I use AKC Canine Good Citizenship training and Certified Trainer methods and I didn't understand the denial. I requested a copy of my application as I was wondering if it was mine she was reviewing or someone else's. She quickly stated "I don't have time. Please consider adopting elsewhere". I was astounded at the complete lack of professionalism. Just like that...I was dismissed - without real cause (because my application stated good training programs that I've used for years) and without confirmation that she accurately reviewed my application and not another's by mistake. I replied very sincerely, "I will pray for the dog that he finds a good and loving home such as ours". and sent a prayer out for the dog to find the best home possible. Melissa replied tactlessly "We will make sure of it, and one that uses positive training methods". I was hurt by this as she's accusing me of something that is absolutely NOT SUBSTANTIATED. I've had dogs for 45 years and have used very humane and also industry standard and professional assistance to further my own knowledge and understanding as well as do what is best for the animal. Are the AKC Canine Good Citizenship program and Certified Trainers not acceptable methods of training??? The world thinks they are and these methods are proven, which is why they are industry standards. Personally at this point, and especially after her last comment and the fact she blocked me off further communication and their FB site - I feel that Melissa was annoyed that I persisted - NEVER REVIEWED MY ADOPTION APPLICATION (clearly by her unfounded response and denial) and since she's not regulated or overseen by a board or hierarchy she can enact any course she chooses and behave any way she chooses - good or bad. The community this rescue serves should take note as well as be VERY INTERESTED in seeing the public records on donations and donation use as well as business records of this organization. I would predict that instead of a true non-profit ran organization, it would be more inline with a "Hobby Loss" type of outfit. This rescue even received a working vehicle donation and then when it had mechanical issues, complained and then were asking for another vehicle? Even though this one was being repaired for them at no cost per original donator?!? Seemingly ungrateful for the donation. Lastly, this rescue consistently "BASHES" other county or private shelters and rescues...not well done of them. Not professional or acceptable. I hope FurKid Rescue will grow from seeing its criticism. See patterns and commonality of complaints and get the much needed business training needed for the organization to grow and thrive because the animals do need the help of all. It actually comes as a shock to submit a review for an agency that does a service to find homes for kittens and other animals that come from high kill shelters. One day, I was out shopping with my girlfriend and we stopped at PetValu in McMurray. While in the store, we saw three kittens that were up for adoption. We spoke with the store manager and she provided us information on how to adopt the kittens. We explained that we were looking for kittens for quite some time and thought it would be a great idea to adopt around Christmas for our 10 and 12 year old. We submitted the application online with their agency (FurKid Rescue) and followed up through their Facebook page because we were really interested in adopting two kittens to bring into our home. A couple days later, we received email correspondence from Jennifer B who asked additional questions about the adoption. Now we completely understand that these agencies have to be thorough in finding a perfect home for their kittens. But given the circumstance that we wanted to surprise the boys on Christmas morning, we wanted to be discreet as possible about the kittens. We even went into great detail and explained that we have owned kittens and cats in the past and that they would coming into a loving home. Needless to say, the woman immediately rejected us because we were considering the animals as "gifts". Now what completely confuses me is that this agency is attempting to adopt kittens in the thick of Christmas, so why wouldn't they be gifts?? Not to mention, giving these kittens a loving home is a gift in itself. Additionally, all of the latest adoptable pictures are depicted with Santa or other Christmas themes??? The woman, Jennifer was rude in her email correspondence with us and wasn't even willing to talk about the adoption. I get that they are an agency that finds homes for misplaced or unwanted animals, but I would recommend finding another agency to find your furry friend. They claim to be non Profit 501 c 3. They list no board of directors nor have publicly available 990's as required by law. This begs the question: where do donations go and how are the accounted for? Being passionate about animals isn't enough to be legitimate to care for animals in the best way. I have tried to adopt and been given incomplete answers to my questions about the background of the dog. They are not trained well here to assess dogs and their needs.there are other, legitimate and responsible rescues to go if you want to adopt. read more

Honestly, this place is unprofessional to say the least. Emailed the application in and one of the questions was which obedience school would you use? They emailed us back and simply turned us away bc they did not agree with the school we listed off the top of our head. So instead of saying we cannot let you adopt unless you choose a different school. We do reccommend x,y, and z. . they simply just said no. Obviously if you know something bad about a training school .. SHARE IT and any good dog owner will make sure to choose a different school. read more

A general note on spreading false information, as well as the attitude with which this misinformation is shared: I want to preface this by saying I don't really mind their being selective with who they adopt dogs out to. However, I will say I was denied my application because I applied in order to meet a dog to train into a service dog. Not because they don't want the dog to undergo the training, but because according to whoever spoke with me I am "misinformed", as they believe Service Dogs are Bred and Trained by a Certified Trainer. They also believe that therapy and emotional support dogs are similar things, which is incorrect. So I will always speak out on misinformation, and I intend to make clear that their response to me was not professional nor was it correct. I did inform them that it was not a problem if they didn't wish to place a dog with me, but they should probably read up on service dog laws and that a disabled person can pick any dog as long as they train them to both behave in public and perform a specific task, as this company says they advocate for dog training. They then seem to have blocked me on Facebook after I replied to them, including a quote from the ADA website, which I find just unprofessional. Jennifer was rude, condescending and clearly thought that no one would be good enough for her fur baby. The benefit of a private rescue is to learn from the foster families about the animal's personality and have a discussion about if you'd be a good fit. Jennifer does not want to have a discussion. I was trying to get some info about one of their dogs. Petfinder had almost no info. After several unanswered emails, I googled them for contact info and came across these terrible reviews. Of course it concerns me, but I still wanted to talk to someone. I tried to call them at 412-403-0843, which is the number on Google. I got a very nasty- sounding voicemail greeting that said something about invading her privacy about adoption. I am the kind of person who would honestly never write a bad review about an organization/person, however I want to warn people to stay away from this rescue and not to waste their time. I had applied for a dog that was up for adoption for a few months... the owner of this rescue seemed to deny my application because she somehow got the impression that I would "value material possessions over my dog." I addressed this concern immediately and corrected what I had meant in my application. Not only was this assumption insulting, but so so false. Even after being slightly offended by the owners quick and inaccurate judgment, I stated that I still was interested in adopting the dog and would be happy to work with her because I truly wanted what was best for this dog... and that is a family. I was looking for a dog to adopt to be a part of my family, and it truly seems that some of the dogs under the care of this rescue could easily have stable, loving homes if the owner Jennifer wasn't so quick to judge people by words typed into an application. I truly feel sorry for the dogs under her care in the sense that the owner is single handedly preventing them from finding a loving home. I can only hope that someone is up to her standards, for alldogs' sake. I would also like to add to this and say that I have since adopted a senior dog from a different Pittsburgh rescue. Jennifer is rude, arrogant and ignorant. I am 61 years old and have adopted rescue dogs my entire life. After losing my Sheltie of 10+years I filled out an application for a puppy on saw on the Furkid Rescue site. I never received a phone call but I did received this email "Hi, thanks for applying to adopt! Is there a specific dog that interests you?" These are puppies, so of course there are no descriptions of the puppies personalities, so I gave her the names of some of the puppies I thought were cute. Jennifer responded with, "But not Sesame? Are you choosing a puppy in looks or personality?" Jennifer was the one who asked me which puppy I preferred and held it against me when I replied. That was the last I heard from her until today and that was only because I wanted her to know I was unhappy with her adoption process. If you are looking to rescue or adopt a dog or a puppy, do yourself a favor and use another rescue site. It's unfortunate for both the applicant and all those adorable dogs that don't have homes. I moved to Bethel Park in October and wanted to adopt a dog since i now owned a house with a fenced in yard. I filled out their application and evwn tried a follow up e-mail a week later and have still received nothing! (That was 3 weeks ago) I just wish they could extend the courtesy of telling me why my application wasn't approved. I love animals and can provide a good home so I don't understand. I am happy to see that the dogs I was interested in did go to what seems like good families, but don't ignore me and get my hopes up. I went to another rescue and now own the best dog. I recently put in an application for a puppy. I have been a senior vet tech for 27 years. I have never had any issues when training our dogs and I have had up to 5 dogs living with me . When asked what training facility I would use if I couldnt correct any issues myself I just put down the one my vets recommend and some of my clients use since I am experienced in behavioral issues and have never had any issues doing it myself. Well I got a nasty email from Jennifer stating if I use such a facility that I should look for a pet elsewhere. Never spoke with me, never asked anything else just shut me down. My applications have been accepted my 7 other rescues and we have a meet and greet monday. Hey Jennifer, can I ask where your degree is from? While browsing through Pet Valu, my husband & I met the sweetest little dog. She immediately took to us, and we spent almost an hour speaking to the woman that is providing the foster home. We were asked to complete an online application to begin the adoption process. I patiently waited for a response, since the woman fostering the dog told us that she works two jobs. On the sixth day with no response, I sent a Facebook message. Two days later, we were informed that our application was being denied because we do not provide heartworm medication to our current dog. Our current dog has special needs, and we provide her with quality veterinarian care. We do not want to introduce her to unnecessary chemicals. Absolutely nothing on the FurKid rescue website or their Facebook page explains the necessity for this, or the requirement of this. Furthermore, the rescue claims be committed to educating the public on the needs of rescue dogs. Unfortunately Fur Kid Rescue made no attempt to contact us to provide education, or arrange to come and meet the pets that are a part of our loving home. Our application would have been ignored had we not followed up. It's worth noting that the dog that we applied to adopt is a senior, small breed dog with a weight issue. The foster owner did admit that the dog spends a significant amount of time in a crate while she is at work, so it has contributed to her weight gain. What's heartbreaking is that our would be fur baby is going to continue to spend hours a day in a crate, when she could've been introduced into a loving home that has the resources to provide everything that she needs in her golden years. FurKid Rescue--There are devoted, open-minded pet owners that can provide an exceptional forever home. Please take the extra minute to reach out, educate, and have a meaningful conversation about FurKid expectations and needs of the pet. It does not seem like the primary goal of this organization is to actually find good homes for pets. It's starting to feel more and more like a scam or something. We have intermittently donated to their posts on Facebook for poor animals that we could not adopt. Finally, we see a dog posted that was not only adorable but also seemed like she would get along quite well with our old girl. We filled out the lengthy application and got an immediate response that it would not be a good fit. We were so confused. When I asked why, the response was about how I mentioned that we take our current dog up to camp (in the middle of nowhere WV, a few miles off the hard road, on several acres of land) and let her run off leash. I was shocked especially because, if anything, I thought this would be a great thing to have so much land to run and play. We were informed that the dog we had applied for would not do well off leash. I responded by saying that she doesn't have to be off leash, or even come to camp for that matter; we could always get a sitter, like we sometimes do for our current dog; whatever would be best for this dog. I received another immediate response that it would be a huge risk for this dog to be off leash... totally ignoring what I said. We haven't heard back since but still see postings of this dog "searching for a forever home." We applied 3 months ago. She could already be in a loving home if they didn't search for a flaw in the application. In our case, I don't think there was a flaw to find so they just made one up. I hope she ends up in an amazing forever home but I'm worried it will never happen while she is with this organization. read more

If it was possible to give 0 stars, I would. I cannot possibly agree more with all the other negative reviews. I feel SOOOO sorry for the poor animals that end up in the care of this rescue. While the volunteers seem kind and genuine, the founder is a Grade A nutcase. Not only is she hideously condescending and disrespectful to prospective pet parents, but she has some kind of delusional God complex. My boyfriend and I applied for a dog (we currently own a dog who we spoil endlessly and treat as a family member, and we've been looking to expand our little family). One of the questions on the application is whether or not you've ever had to surrender an animal. I was honest about a traumatic, tragic situation that happened to my boyfriend and I years ago, wherein we had to surrender a 7 year old rescue dog we had because he became aggressive after a stressful training session and bit my boyfriend's face, resulting in him needing 40 stitches and not being able to eat solid food for a month. We had no choice but to surrender the dog. I told this story in my application, with every last detail I could include. The founder emailed me back, attacking me and blaming me for the entire situation, and telling me I "reek of guilt." Kinda crazy to pass such judgment on someone you've never met, who wants nothing more than to give one of your animals a good, loving home. I replied to her, letting her know that due to all of her negative reviews, as well as the nasty way she treats people and the fact that Furkid is not BBB accredited, we were going to adopt a dog through another more reputable shelter with respectable morals. Once again, the founder emailed me back, spewing hatred, negativity, and bitterness. When I tell you this woman is certifiably insane, I'm not kidding. In her unhinged email, she compared a trainer putting a shock collar on a dog to a parent watching a priest rape their child. I wish I was making this up. Now, I don't agree with shock collars or pinch collars at all. But equating a collar to child rape is a level of delusion that I simply can't reason with. The email was damn near 7 pages long, and was a clear display of her desperation to be the queen of nasty emails. I guess when you're so used to treating people with a flagrant lack of respect, dignity, and basic human kindness, you get pretty good at that. I figured there's no sense in arguing with crazy, and I have too much joy in my life to waste time being cyber-bullied by a bitter, delusional grown woman. Anyone who feels so comfortable being so horribly mean to others clearly has a sad life, and honestly, I feel sorry for her. I replied to her wishing her the peace and happiness that she so clearly needs in her life, and moved on. Anyway, I truly cannot express how hideous this woman is, and how seriously I advise anyone to stay FAR away from Furkid. Jennifer denied my application after I had passed the landlord check and after she checked in with my vet about my other animals because I did not use "modern method training" and that my application had red flags. She has yet to explain what the red flags are or modern method training, as I had already agreed that we would be willing to consider dog training for when we adopt. I was very upset, as I work for the Humane Animal Rescue and had worked side by side with Furkid at many events at the South Side pet Valu. They encouraged me to adopt a dog that came in 3 times as I was present at all 3 events, and so we did. I also worked in a vet clinic for 6+ years and am from a veterinarian father who owned his own practice and I have had much experience both on the vet side and on the people side as an adoption counselor. It took her many days to respond and after 3 ignored emails I had to ask if we were still in consideration of the dog adoption, to which she replied, that I was denied. I even called my veterinarian and spoke with my own father a retired veterinary surgeon to review where I would have red flags in my application. There weren't any. This is a very unprofessional woman, who won't respond to your emails, will disqualify you even if you have a very heavy background in animals, and she will make you doubt yourself as a dog mom. I have never been aggressive to any of my pets especially my dog (which I've had for going on 5 years) and I have never been so insulted. I still hope the dog goes to a good home but I will never recommend or donate to this rescue again. read more

ADOPTED AN AWESOME KITTEN FROM AN AWFUL CEO! From the moment I started dealing with this company I started having issues. Honestly, the only problems I had were directly with the CEO. I requested to adopt my kitten and they immediately did a virtual home inspection. They said I could adopt my kitten at the end of the call. They then said there was an application that needed filled out. Never told me when they need it. The next day I worked an 8 hour shift and didn't check my email and they said since I didn't submit my paper work they were going with different owners. This was all in less than 12 hours. I replied with the paperwork and they gave me my kitten and I thought that would be the end. Later on, they required me to get her spayed at their clinic an hour and a half away from my house. It was free so I can't complain too much. It was just inconvenient. After that, I needed my kitten's vet records and they were incredibly rude about giving them to me. They took forever to email them over and acted like I was inconveniencing them by being concerned about my kitten's health. The icing on the cake was when the CEO, Jennifer, sent me a rude unprofessional email saying the contract she had me sign quote "looked terrible and like crap and I needed to send her new copies". Keep in mind this was 3 months after signing the documents. They are rude, unprofessional, and make you live in fear they will take your pet who you love and care for as a child. OMG! I've never been so happy to read bad reviews because it means we aren't the only ones who were dismissed as a potential loving, forever family with the wave of Jen's hand. I understand that she & her foster families have seen the cruelty and mistreatment of these helpless animals, and should - for good reason, be very careful of who will be taking care of them for the rest of their lives. But you cannot judge the love someone has to give by how they answer a few choice questions on a piece of paper. She never called our references, or contacting us for a home visit or video chat and therefore will never know that my son chose and needed this rescue as a companion as much as this rescue needed a home. Dismissing the entire human aspect of adopting a rescue, this woman made us feel like criminals, and that's just in response to our application! She criticized every part of our application - the type of fence we have, our trainer, not allowing our dogs to sit on the furniture (which we do, just not when we have company!). The worst was when she stated we don't consider our pets as family members because of our answers. She has no idea how much we loved our previous pets. They were like children to us. They went everywhere with us and they lived happy, fun lives. They were able to freely and safely roam every inch of our 1-acre property in the country. They never had fleas or ticks. Neighbors, friends and family loved being around them & vice versa. And she has no idea how heartbroken we were to lose them. It seems this woman is on a power trip, and her ego is stroked every time she "grants permission" to someone to adopt one of her rescues and they write nice things about her. But it seems that preceding each successful placement are several disappointed and frustrated potential forever families who are appalled by the attitude of this self-proclaimed, judge & jury animal advocate. read more

This rescue just posted on facebook about having an overload of animals. They also post daily new dogs or reoccuring post about one who still haven't been adopted. Yet, we applied for a dog who has been at the rescue for near 6 months!! and our references were never called. Our emails were never returned. The only reply i ever got was that they called our Vet who had no record of us. But another rescue had no issue with speaking to our vet same day. (which we ended up adopting from ) I also read similar complaints on other reviews. The animals are really missing out on what could be their forever families. No response from either phone, email, or adoption paperwork attempts. How about a response either way when you take time to fill out the paperwork that they ask. If I am serious enough to fill out 1 hour of paperwork I think a response from them isn't too much to ask. read more

I am the kind of person who would honestly never write a bad review about an organization/person, however I want to warn people to stay away from this rescue and not to waste their time. I had applied for a dog that was up for adoption for a few months... the owner of this rescue seemed to deny my application because she somehow got the impression that I would "value material possessions over my dog." I addressed this concern immediately and corrected what I had meant in my application. Not only was this assumption insulting, but so so false. Even after being slightly offended by the owners quick and inaccurate judgment, I stated that I still was interested in adopting the dog and would be happy to work with her because I truly wanted what was best for this dog... and that is a family. I was looking for a dog to adopt to be a part of my family, and it truly seems that some of the dogs under the care of this rescue could easily have stable, loving homes if the owner Jennifer wasn't so quick to judge people by words typed into an application. I truly feel sorry for the dogs under her care in the sense that the owner is single handedly preventing them from finding a loving home. I can only hope that someone is up to her standards, for all of the dogs' sake. read more

Adopted a dog with them. Was told she was great with cats and has some leash reactivity. Boy did we find out the hard way after adopting the dog. Dog chases the cats and stresses them out. Some leash reactivity must equal bites when you don't let her lunge at other dogs or scratches you when she sees a man and his daughter. We are trying to return the dog so she can find a family who can put in the effort to train but was written off by Jen and she also put a nasty post on fb. Look lady, i know you're stressed but maybe not get into a profession like this? read more

I too applied at this rescue and ...not a word! Despite having had dogs my entire life and having previous rescues. Don't know what to tell you. Attempts at contacts were unsuccessful. I would see dogs on this site wondering why it took them so long to be adopted when they appeared to be great dogs. So my 3rd rescue came from Orphans of the Storm in Kittanning. They were more than happy to work with me and now I have a great little companion for my other rescue. I suggest trying the shelters they are more interested in placing dogs with good families than judging people! read more

Created this account just to add to the pile of bad reviews this place has. This woman is a joke. I moved to the area 5 months ago, and after getting myself settled, decided it was finally time to adopt a dog. I found exactly what I wanted on their website. I have an active lifestyle and a large, fenced in back yard, and am very aware of how much training and attention this breed needs. Apparently the fact that I am not familiar with trainers in the area means I am not fit to adopt, even though I just moved to the area. When I made it ubundantly clear that I would be more than happy to use any trainer she suggested, she ignored that part of my email entirely and just restated that the trainer I knew of was not good enough. People like this woman are the reason puppy mills and back yard breeders exist. read more

They say that they value "quality of placements for dogs over quantity". Clearly this isn't true. I applied to adopt a dog that needed a lot of yard space and exercise. We have much more land than the average person, over 20 acres with even a creek for the dog to play in. Would have had the best dog life, like our current dog has! We explained that we could meet the dog but then would be out of town for our honeymoon for one week soon. Jen then got up and arms about us! I explained that my mom would stay with him and our other animals at our house so he wouldn't have to change environments. He would NOT be going to a boarding place and have time to acclimate to my other pets. My mom is also very involved in my pet's lives and she sees them at least once a week. Not good enough! Apparently being away for 1 week is too much - this poor dog could have had an extraordinary life on our property with our other pets but thanks to Jen that wasn't possible. And what really got me was her attitude that I could just adopt another dog anyway and it didn't matter. If you don't feel that passionately about a certain dog, then I don't recommend adopting that dog to begin with. Each dog is special and one of a kind and you should have your heart set on them. This organization does not have the animals best interest in mind, and I wish I had read every one else's experiences With Furkid rescue before falling in love with one of their "adoptable" dogs. My first issue is it took three weeks to get a response from their founder Jennifer Bird, then she emails me a short rude email asking a question that was basically having to decipher a secret code because her spelling and grammar are TERRIBLE like a three year old typed the email. So I responded right away to the question I think she was asking, than another week goes by and nothing, i follow up again and immediately receive a response from her that was degrading and made me feel like I am a terrible dog mom. I asked some questions to be able to understand better and have never heard back from her. I've had dogs all my life, my previous dog was actually certified as a therapy dog, so I can't believe I'm that horrible of a dog owner. I submitted my application exactly as I did with Furkid rescue too other more reputable adoption agencies and I have had zero issues, had have since had better luck else where. It just hurts to see that as I check their website regularly and I have not seen a single animals status change to adopted. I hope these wonderful animals find a furever home with someone that the founder seems is acceptable, however unless it's a clone of herself i feel anyone trying to adopt through Furkid rescue will have zero luck. It makes me question if this is actually an adoption agency or if she is scamming people for donations. read more

Grossly incompetent. They rejected my application because of one line on my behaviorist's website which states she uses negative punishment. Negative punishment means removing stimuli that are rewarding a bad behavior. They stated my behaviorist was not credibly trained when they clearly have a very poor understanding of operant conditioning aka what dog training is based on. read more

I am in my mid seventies now, and have spent the last 50 years of my life working as a trainer for problematic dogs. A friend of mine filled out an application to adopt and was rejected due to Jennifer Birds misguided and highly ignorant attitude towards specific types of dog training. I have had my certification from the CCPTD for quite some time and am not aware of anyone at Furkids who has a certification or professional license in any way. My friend was disappointed for her rejection and lack of any real explanation other than Jennifer's unintelligent and nonsensical response. I would highly recommend to anyone looking to adopt to STAY AWAY from Furkids!! read more
