So there is a lot of attention to Fu's Repair Shop. The atmosphere is lovely. The lanterns on the ceiling and the fun ambiance is probably why you want to go here. The cocktails are great. The service was not so great, even though we told them that we were celebrating a graduation. Nothing special and it was so loud that we were yelling at each other. I would overlook it if I thought the food was good. For the amount we paid, the food was okay but nothing that I would run back here for. So I don't get the hype. We ordered a bunch of cocktails (because we were celebrating but not that our server understood that because she didn't even get a congratulation) . and a bunch of food House pork dumplings Truffle Siu Mai Beef Tartare Cha- Siu Shanghai Noodles Wai Siu Chow Fan with added cha-siu 5 spice duck tacos Mozza sticks Nothing stood out. My friend and I both found a spot in front Wednesday at 5:30PM (must have been early enough). Only 10% full when we got there but 70% full by 7PM. Epic entrance into the restaurant as you have to go behind the secret door ;) Restrooms are downstairs. We were seated at the bar but there were Many tables available. I got the Cha-Siu Shanghai Noodles. 10/10 but wish there was more vegetables. Pork was very good. Noodles wee 10/10. Sauce wasn't too sweet, sour or rich - just perfect. It said it would come with "daily veg" but I don't recall seeing ANY vegetables at all (maybe some thin cooked cabbage?). Friend got the Crazy Rich Rice Noodles - little too spicy for me. She loved it. We also tried the Fried Man Tao - 4/10. So very greasy, tasted like carnival donuts. Coconut condensed milk sauce tasted like basic coconut cream. Fu's has been on my must-try list for a long time, ever since I noticed that they were taking over the space on 109th Street that Prairie Fish N Chips had left vacant. The windows were papered with newsprint and signage that said that they would "fix me" and I was beyond curious. Since then, Fu's has done very well for themselves and have moved to a larger location (you thought that they had a lot of lanterns before?) around the corner on Downtown's Jasper Ave. Opening in 2022, less than two short years ago, Fu's has made quite the splash and very well might be the coolest restaurant in town. enRoute magazine nominated them as one of Canada's Best New Restaurants 2022 and EDify Magazine awarded them the Best New Restaurant 2023 spot. Edmonton has always had restaurants but now, more and more, we are seeing entire experiences. Incredibly strong and immersive concepts. Fu's Repair Shop is an example of this, if not the best version. The idea is that the "repair shop" is a front. They'll fix your broken (obsolete?) electronics, you know, like your pager, walkman, 8 track, and VCR. I love this whole thing. You can picture this shop in a Chinatown somewhere. Walking inside, the entrance looks like a small, you guessed it; repair shop. There are piles of electronics and kitsch strewn about and old TVs with static on the screens. And there's a 7UP pop machine... Except it's not a vending machine - it's a secret door! Passing through this door might be one of the most exciting reveals that Edmonton has to offer. Once on the other side the space opens into the most gorgeous dining room, dripping with theme and design. Are you in some back alley speakeasy in Chinatown now? Because yes, you are. The lanterns! Hundreds of them! The ornate xieshan-style bar with neon lights! The kung fu movies being projected on the exposed brick wall! The level of ambiance is unmatched. It's dim, sultry, and there are details everywhere. The music is also amazing, all from the late 90s and early 2000s. It should be noted that no minors are allowed in the restaurant. (Hello date night with no kids!!) I visited on a Saturday evening and once seated I was excited to get a cocktail into my hand ASAP. The program is extensive and perfectly matched to the entire vibe. The Cherry Blossom looked so pretty going by with its flower garnish but I had to pick the Sakura Sour (Tart cherry infused Bacardi white rum, vanilla bean infused Remy VSOP, cardamom syrup, lemon, egg white, and Token cherry bitters - $14.50). The flavours of cherry, vanilla and cardamom sounded incredible and exactly like my kind of drink. It was delicious! This beverage felt sophisticated while still being playful. It wasn't too sweet and the different flavours came through beautifully. I love the fluffy egg white top on a sour and was very pleased with each sip. Other fun things on the drink menu include the FU-BERG which is beer topped with soju slush, a Lucky Teapot of beer for $10, and a great list of non-alcoholic cocktails. The Lychee Rose Tonic is something that I absolutely must order in the future! There's even a "dealers choice" option where you can just let the bar make you something special. I love that Fu's makes a point of supporting local vendors and the Chinatown community in Edmonton. Anything not made in-house is sourced from this community and this only elevates the authenticity of the food and overall experience. We wanted to order a bunch of different things to eat from all parts of the menu! And so that's exactly what we did. Our server was decently okay but I did find her quite disengaged and generally unenthused about answering questions or making recommendations. All of our dishes came out as they were ready and in no particular order. The feast was on! I love the idea of All Night Dim Sum and ordered a bunch of items from this section of the menu. First to arrive was the Chan Bao (In-house golden baked milk buns - $10.88) with Miso Gochujang Butter. Baked in limited quantities each day, I was happy to get my hands, er, mouth on these pillowy, golden pockets. These reminded me of a warm, soft brioche especially with the dusting of fleur de sel on top. But somehow, inside there was a filling of miso gochujang butter that changed the game entirely. One of my favourite things that I ate, these buttery soft bao melted in my mouth and surprised me with flavour and a bit of heat. The bao are also offered in three other types, including a daily feature that rotates. Next to arrive were the Green Onion Cakes (Served with house chili oil - $5.88 for one). This is considered a "side." Being that green onion cakes are maybe the singular most iconic food that Edmonton has to offer, I needed to try the Fu's version. I really liked the concept and the atmosphere of Fu's Repair Shop. They set the tone immediately as you step into a hallway crowded with old sound systems and discarded monitors. You have to swing open the 7up vending machine to enter the main dining room awash in red from the ceiling of Chinese lanterns. The space is pumping with 90s pop songs from the DJ booth and the tables are crowded with patrons. It is a definite vibe. Unfortunately, the food was hit and miss. I got the Lady on the Moon cocktail, which was very coffee forward but lacking complexity of the coconut and sesame that was promised on the profile. The mocktails were reported to be okay but with more ice than flavor. For food, it was recommended we share dishes. We got the Truffle Siu Mai, Har Gow, Duck and Peach Chan Bao, Peachy Shrimp, Duck Tacos, Crazy Rich Rice Noodles and the Beef Chow Ho Fun. The stand out was the Siu Mai which came with an impressive heap of truffle on top and the Peachy Shrimp as the tiger shrimp was truly an impressive size. The duck tacos were interesting, as instead of crispy Peking duck skin, they swapped it out for duck confit which was an interesting fusion take on the dish. The rest was okay, but nothing too memorable to amazing. For some of the prices of the dishes, I expected some more complexity or at least to deliver on the flavor profiles that was promised. This will be without a doubt the coolest restaurant experience you will have in the city of Edmonton this year. If you grew up, as I did, in a certain era of late 70's thru the 80's this place hits all the feels of nostalgia one could hope for. Old school Nintendo's, cam quarters, tv's...it's excellent You go thru the "secret door" which is a 7-UP vending machine and enter this very trendy very red room. Chinese laterns EVERYWHERE! I've never been in a room quite like this...hard to describe but very cool My mission was to try as much as we could possibly eat cause everything was very intruging and sounded delicious. Truffle Sui Mai was probably my least favourite of the night, kinda weird texturally and I'm not sure the truffle worked with the dish, very very earthy Stir Fried pork dumplings were just awesome, looked great tasted great. Duck spiced tacos were nothing short of spectacular. The duck is confited and served as a whole drum and thigh piece which you have to kinda dissect a bit to fill up your taco. Delicious!! Green onion cakes pretty run of the mill but tasty. Excellent chili oil saved it, made for a spicy oily bite. Shanghai noodles were nearly perfect, accompanied with a beautiful Chinese roast pork, wish there was more pork but would order it again. Finished with an excellent version of a Ho Fun which is a thick noodle with with veggies, we added braised beef. The noodles were amazing the beef meh a little tough but ok, really nice dish The service was pretty solid overall, drink orders were taken fairly quickly came equally quickly for how busy the place was. You can get a "lucky pot" of lucky lager for like 11 bucks, pretty good deal for 30oz's. While I usually try new items from their featured menu, the black tea old fashioned and the viet coffee negroni are both excellent spirit-forward drinks. The food is fairly good but a bit on the pricier side considering it isn't particularly "elevated" compared to a good restaurant in Chinatown. You are definitely paying a premium for the ambiance here which is top notch. Service is always attentive and fast. The only thing to note is that everything comes out when it's ready, even if everyone at the table isn't sharing. My only recommendation is that they lean into the speakeasy format more or drop it altogether. While it's cute that you enter through a "secret" door, the well-labeled entrance and host greeting you as you enter makes it feel more like a cheesy gimmick. read more

Fun place with the speakeasy vibe (but not overdoing it). Service is fantastic; attentive and authentically friendly. We sat in the middle of the room and I did not find the music too loud as others have said -- my friend and I had no trouble hearing ourselves chatting for two hours. Definitely recommend the peachy shrimp -- probably should have doubled up on this. It is the perfect blend of sweet, savoury, and crunchy, and I say this as someone who was immediately suspicious of anything with canned peaches. Also highly recommend any of the dishes with duck. Everything is reasonably priced from my perspective -- main dishes around 25 dollars and have 3-4 servings. We shared the pot of beer and it was perfect for us. Water glasses were kept filled until we were ready to go. Recommend having a reservation -- their system is easy to use and reliable. This place has the potential to be the coolest restaurant in edmonton but it's lacking so many key contributions. When you enter fu's it's so intriguing and mysterious feeling and then you enter through a 7up machine. Like how frickin cool is that. These people have seriously nailed the ambiance it's a 10/10. We had the spiked mango lassi and the butterfly cocktail and the drinks were good, unusual flavours but worked well together. The service wasn't great. A girl grabbed our drink order after 10 minutes then a different girl told us she was taking care of us. She had rang in our order and the only time we saw our server was during the first dish 1/5 came out. She never came back to ask us how the rest of the food was or if we wanted more to drink. The food.. this is where the review really falls. I would describe the food as like a small hole in the wall with mediocre food after the bar at 2am. We tried the stir fried pork dumplings which were just ok.. nothing special they taste like the frozen ones you buy and make at home. The green onion cakes were just sliced onion cakes slightly warmed with chili oil, again nothing special not homemade tasting or fresh just warmed. The shrimp and peaches were good. Definitely the star of the meal. The Shanghai noodles with cha-siu - unbelievably salty.. the cha-siu was like beef jerky. So tough and hard to get through with the noodles. We were most excited about the bao dish but again another extreme let down. They use a milk bun instead of bao buns which is a let down. This is an adorably unique looking place set up to look like a repair shop rather than a restaurant, right up to advertisements papering the window and an old CRT television showing static in the entryway. Step inside though and it's a trendy Asian themed restaurant with a bar, DJ, and always busy interior. Out back is where you want to be though; a spacious patio with firepits in cool weather and plastic heated bubbles in the winter. The drinks are inventive and delicious. The food is a bit mixed; the duck tacos were great, but the dim sum is honestly not as good as genuine dim sum places and costs 4x as much. Some of it's good, some is pretty average and steeply priced for the quality. The reservations page is via a third party app and is extremely difficult to navigate if you want to reserve a dome in winter. It was very unclear how to request a dome versus an inside seat when I tried to reserve a dome for a birthday dinner. When I checked (a week in advance) and was told we'd accidentally reserved an inside table instead of a dome, the person responding said they'd see if they could move it ... then failed to respond for 4 days, at which point they basically said sorry, we were out of luck. If they'd just told us that immediately, we'd have changed the reservation date, but by the time they actually responded the second choice date was filled up also, so I was pretty irritated by the lack of response. Definitely came across as really not caring because they know they can fill up the tables no problem; which may be true, but isn't a good customer service experience. So we ended up having to move the birthday dinner to another restaurant after all. Overall this is a fun place but a bit on the over-trendy side and seems to have a bit of the attitude to match. I like the style of this place! Its slogan "We fix you". The bartender said people have actually brought in broken electronics. It looks like a repair shop with newspaper over the windows. Expect the unexpected! First off, the door does not look like a door, when you enter the dining area it's a very inviting fun atmosphere. Chinese lanterns, the usual red curtains framing Asian art. The drink menu is very extensive and has something for all tastes. You need to be adventurous to try some of their cocktails. Our server was great and had drinks on table right away. Chopsticks- yes! Those are your utensils at your place setting for the night, I'm pretty sure if you ask you can get a fork! The menu offers the usual type of dim sum as you would expect but with a little twist sui mai (very large) with a truffle topping (wish they were a bit more steamy when the came out). Ha how with a crunchy topping (same, wish they were a bit hotter when served). The vegetable dumplings were delicious pockets in a perfectly sized crunchy envelope- order these for sure. Another must order is the chicken wings, they are cooked perfectly with a kick, messy and so delicious(expect the unexpected, they are huge and you get the whole wing) We only ordered one entree, lamb Dan Dan, perfect balance of flavour and good to balance the spice of the wings. A fun flavour adventure for sure but make a reservation. There was quite a lineup when we left, it's not a huge space, looks like there are some private dining areas and I will say it's not too noisy and the music is fun, plus if you like anime they project it on both sides of the bar. I was looking forward to eat here but sadly, it turned out to be a disappointment. The music was too loud and did not complement the concept of the eatery. Neither was the dress code of the staff. Small observations, no major issues actually. However, the food was not up to par - the dumplings took long to be served yet they were just warm, not piping hot and we were concerned. The Char Hor Fan was not the actual fettuccine rice noodle but chee-cheong-fun rolls hence another letdown. I suppose for a Chinese, the dishes served were mediocre but suitable for a bar? Overall: the food was delicious, the service was great, and the cocktails were delicious-- but I don't think I'd come back again due to a couple of reasons (crammed seating, wayyy too loud music). I had been looking forward to coming here for a while and the food did not disappoint. We ordered multiple appetizers and an entree and they were all delicious. The waitress was friendly, attentive, and the food was brought out quickly. The cocktails were incredible-- I absolutely loved our drinks. Most of them were a bit on the sweeter side, so if you're not a fan of sweet drinks perhaps ask the waitress what they would recommend. Walking in, the ambience of the place is trendy and cute, but after staying for a while I felt... meh. The tables are so crammed together (ex. I awkwardly bumped into the person sitting next to us when getting up, we could hear the conversation of the people next to us, etc.) Having a live DJ is cool, but oh my god the music was so LOUD! I'm a big clubbing/rav fan, so I enjoy loud music in the right settings, but ugh I could barely hear my girlfriend talking the whole dinner because of how loud the music was. I wouldn't say the loud music "ruined" the experience, but it was unfortunate to be eating good food and be unable to talk about it with the person sitting across from you because you can't hear anything. Arrived at around 7:30, we were lucky to be offered two bar stools right next to the doors on a Saturday as this place has recently opened. Took 10 minutes to receive water and get in a drink order. Took another 10 minutes to get the drink and a food order, and another 20 minutes on top of that to get the first round of food. Drinks, great. Food, FANTASTIC. Absolutely would go again. But watching a table of approximately 10 and 2 seater empty for the whole 1 hour that we were there, was concerning. This seemed like a bar for influencers. while the staff are great and the place has potential the penchant to overwhelm people with music so loud you can't hear the staff or the person beside you doesn't help the mediocre food. I could have stolen a salt lick and had the same experience. The drinks are novel but are over priced for what you get. For the people who think it don't looks like restaurant, I have to say it is a restaurant, but they only open Thursday to Sunday, and they dont have any sign show up on their window or door, so its hard to tell its a Chinese restaurant. Also they put newspaper/flyers all over the front window, so you can not see through, they write 'we fix everything' on the door, make you think it's a store to fix your old DVD or radio machine, but they are only fix your food.I know it's confusing but maybe they do it on purpose. If you looking for traditional Chinese Dim sum, you won't like this place, but if you want try something very special, you might want visit here, they use Cantonese write the menu, so if you don't understand whats inside just ask them. The food amount may not big enough to share for group of people, but the drink menu quite great. If you have kids not a good place for them, no wheelchair accessible, and you have to use the pay park on 109st. I ate there last night and it was fantastic. I had the Beef bowl, duck tacos, and some of the dimsum. The beef bowl is basically like a ramen except with beef broth. I found difficulty in finding ramen in the city with a beef broth so I was pleasantly surprised to even see it as an option. The duck tacos were very unique in a good way. I thought they had the best green onion cakes in the city and I normally dislike green onion cakes. Service was great as well. To the reviewer who stated two drinks are $60.....that's a complete lie and overstating the price by almost double. read more

Kind of a bummer, myself and two friends made a night of checking out Fu's Repair Shop. All of us came away fairly disappointed. I love the concept of the place, but we waited 3 hours for a table, and the food was pretty bland. The lotus leaf rice was very mushy, the dumplings lacked flavour, and other dishes didn't show up. Seems like a place where you just go for the drinks, the cocktails were great, just not worth a 3 hour wait. read more

Visited the place for the first time. Had the cherry blossom drink which was pretty good, but the service was extremely bad, the staff didn't even bother to check in on us at all, took so long to get our to-go box, and food was just so bland. It only looked good in their pictures but the taste was a whole different thing. We were at the patio too and there were so many bugs.It's a cool looking, instagram worthy type of place tho but not only was the food not good, the service was also bad.
