This is an amazing Italian restaurant, the wine selection is amazing and the staff are very friendly and professional. I'd recommend anything that is on the menu. There is a lot of renovations going on in the area so it is a bit difficult to find. I love the decor it's dark and the place is very well setup. If you live in Edmonton (and you don't live under a rock) you are undoubtedly aware of the Chef Daniel Costa monopoly on fine Italian cuisine by now. Six restaurants strong, this restaurant group features a different vibe and experience at each one, from the more casual to the truly elevated. The consistent aspect between each of them is that you will be hard pressed to find a finer Italian meal in the city. Bar Bricco (the second in the family) opened in 2014 and has since completely absorbed the next-door space that used to belong to Corso 32 (now making it the most senior in the group). The identity of this restaurant is purely "Italian wine bar;" offering small plates, handmade pastas, and an exclusively Italian wine list. Perhaps the most rambunctious of the six, the quality and care toward the food does not suffer just because the atmosphere is louder and younger. (The younger crowd likes nice things too, as they should.) Ranking at #51 on Canada's 100 Best Restaurants 2016, #80 on Canada's 100 Best Restaurants 2017, and #45 on Canada's 100 Best Restaurants 2018, the accolades don't stop there. Avenue Magazine also named them Best Late Night Restaurant 2019, Best Restaurant for Sharing 2019, and Best Late-Night Restaurant 2020. I visited on a Tuesday evening, excited to add to my Corso 32 Group collection. Located in a sleek row Downtown, Bar Bricco can be found next door to its fairly new sister Rita. The exterior isn't flashy - nothing more than a black awning with the restaurant's name printed in white cursive lettering. Inside the space is moody, capturing a decidedly subterranean vibe. Black hexagonal tiles interlock around the bar and white marble table tops contrast against the midnight hues. The space was buzzing with many occupied tables filled with a hip clientele, laughing and enjoying each other's company. It can get pretty loud but that's the intended atmosphere at Bar Bricco. The idea of mixing and mingling is the entire point. Seated at a table for two, our server was upbeat and friendly, matching the feeling of the room. Blasphemy as it may be, I'm not much of a wine drinker so the curated list of Italian wines got overlooked in favour of the cocktail menu. I love a Sbagliato (Prosecco, Campari, Cocchi vermouth - $20.00) and was happy to find it listed - stunning! Similar to a negroni, the difference is that instead of gin the beverage is made with a sparkling wine (like prosecco) instead. This version was adult and delicious but a bit more fun and trendy compared to a regular negroni because you get the effervescence from the prosecco. A perfect palate cleanser, the bittersweet citrus notes help to cut through the rich food dishes like a dream. The menu at Bar Bricco is inspired by the diverse regional cuisines of Italy. Instead of pigeon holing into one specific province, you'll find plates that feature the best that the country has to offer while keeping the dishes simple and playful. A tasting menu is offered where the restaurant can select the plates for your group (never a bad idea!) but on my visit I had already made up my mind about what I was excited to try. Starting with the Lardo & Anchovy Crostino ($11.00). These are served individually so each person will need to order their own. Each piece of toasted bread was adorned with a singular anchovy and then draped in sheets of lardo, a type of salume made by curing strips of fatback. The decadent and salty flavour was right up my alley however I could have used even more anchovy! I know that anchovies can be an overwhelming flavour and it makes sense not to be heavy-handed but I could have eaten at least a second fish. A really nice bite to whet the appetite! One of the piatti that I had heard the most about was easily the Soft Scrambled Eggs 'Cacio e Pepe' (Black truffle, crostini - $23.00) and I couldn't wait to try it for myself! Every egg should taste exactly like this!! Velvet folds of creamy, indulgent scrambled eggs are seasoned with black pepper and pecorino (just like cacio e pepe pasta) and the addition of truffle brings a luxurious element. Scooping these eggs onto slices of chewy crostini felt like the best breakfast ever, although perfectly acceptable for any time of day. I am ruined for eggs because I need them to be like this forever. I had also heard that the Leeks (Whipped ricotta, 'salumi bomba' & mint - $23.00) were magical. Leeks are having a total moment right now and I see them on more and more menus. A good preparation leaves them tender and ready to absorb whatever ingredients they're paired with. This dish was executed perfectly in the sense that it was beautiful to look at and provided an unexpected heat that woke up my taste buds! The spicy salumi bomba was served on top like a meat sauce while the creamy whipped ricotta waited underneath to cool everything down. We just returned from Italy and due to some underwhelming food (due to lack of due diligence - food has changed in moderate priced Italian places to cater to North American tastes) we rushed to Bar Bricco to satisfy our focaccia craving. The Wagyu beef tartar was silky and excellent, huge egg yolk ravioli perfectly executed - when I cut into the ravioli, a beautiful golden yolk flowed out richening(is that a word?) the sauce. Yum. Bar Bricco is a fantastic restaurant and was our favorite meal of our trip to Edmonton. We ate at the bar (which is always our favorite) and our service was good. We had a gin cocktail and a nice glass of wine and had broccoli Romanesco for an appetizer. The broccoli was charred perfectly and was extremely flavorful and delicious. I had the pappardelle with a meat sauce and that was very tasty, but the star of the meal was my wife's egg yolk raviolo, which is one of the best meals she's ever had in her life. Delicious tapas italian style dining. Hip atmosphere. Bar bricco doesn't need any introduction. It is the more bar type restaurant featuring smaller plates for sharing than its sister Corso 32. Everything I tried here was rich and buttery. Sage butter is one of the main ingredients. And is highlighted in most of their signature dishes like their egg yolk raviolo, egg moliterno or even the fennel salad! Most of the dishes come with bread to eat it with. And by the end of the night I was in carb overload. I'd say get the formaggi and salumi tasting plates to share as they are very good portions and are so tasty with their large assortment of wines. The Carne crudo was my favourite dish. The egg yolk raviolo was too rich for me and was surprisingly filling. A nice night out with the girls or a casual date. This place is great for some great food and wine. And can be quite affordable if you stick to food only. The atmosphere is nice because it's loud enough that you don't hear other people's conversations beside you like at corso. The bar stools are slightly uncomfortable but it's not a place you linger for long anyways. Service was good but I didn't like the upsell for drinks when I stately clearly I was driving and one would be enough. I would also come before 6pm or after 8pm if you want to snag a table. What can I say? This place has been on my list for a long time, ever since seeing the Egg Yolk Raviolo featured all over Instagram. Bar Bricco is part of the Coso 32 group and they have a great reputation in our city. I have only heard great things about their restaurants and the quality of food that they provide. Thankfully our visit to Bar Bricco surpassed our expectations! I loved the ambiance of this little bar and it was perfect for a small group. We decided to share and try as many things as we could, all while washing it down with a delicious glass of wine. We tried the House-cultured Truffle Butter Crostino, Kale Salad, Beef Carpaccio and the Egg Yolk Raviolo along with dessert. Everything was perfect. At the time my absolute favorite was the Truffle Butter Crostino but surprisingly the Kale Salad has stuck with me. It has a great flavor and texture with the added pangrattato (bread crumbs). The Truffle Butter Crostino comes with layers upon layers of butter. This is the type of butter that you expect to find only in Europe.. amazing! This is a great place to have a glass of wine with a small bite to eat. The price for the food is fair considering the great quality. I look forward to coming back here! read more

I honest to God love Bae Bricco but unfortunately don't get to go nearly as much as I want to. I suppose the plus side is that it's an extra special treat when I do get to go though. Located on Jasper Ave, Bar Bricco is the perfect intimate date night spot. Bar Bricco is small, usually dimly lit, and the majority if their plates are made for sharing, preferably over a nice glass of wine or a house made cocktail. It can get rather busy and I'm not sure if they take reservations but there is about a 50/40 split between table seating and bar seats. Normally bar seating can be a little annoying but in this case it adds to the intimacy factor. My favorite recommendations would be the Egg Ravioli (which I make a habit of having every time I go) , the Fonduta (not pictured) and a charcuterie board - they a great selection of meats and cheeses. Also a nice note to add would be that Bar Bricco is vegetarian friendly. I took my partner there for the first time and was initially a little nervous as he is a vegetarian and I wasn't sure what the option selection would be like but he loved it. We had the 3 above listed items and a fennel salad and then we finished with 2 chocolate truffles. Chocolate truffles were amazing - rich and flavorful but small so it wasn't overwhelming. But we were told we had to leave after paying and two of the people I was with had maybe a couple of sips of wine in their glasses left. We would have been gone in less than 5 minutes. Rooted in Italian heritage, both that of its Chef and many of the Meats and Cheeses used to craft its plates, entrance to the long 30-seater any time after sunset sees diners immediately immersed in a bustling environment with music thumping, the two bartenders largely charged with taking orders and doling out wines by the glass as Sputini and some larger plates slowly trickle from a kitchen in back. Built with a focus on sharing, the lighting subdued and capable of making everyone look a little more glamorous, it was on the notes of bold and citrusy that a glass of 2013 Alois Lageder Gewurztraminer was suggested, slow sips seeing it pair well with a starter of spicy Calabrian Sausage and sliced Anchovies on Bread with shaved Fennel, Red Onion and Parsley. An oddly paced restaurant, plates coursed out with significant gaps even before the space really starts hopping, it was unavoidably eavesdropping on two Women discussing the complexities of dating while pursuing a career in Law that nearly thirty minutes passed before the arrival of plate two, the airy pudding of Eggs Moliterno served with grated Cheese and Black Pepper further embellished by Winter Truffles while simultaneously served naked Cheese Agnolotti were cleverly served 'fondue-style' with a sidecar of herbal Butter designed for dipping. I come here pretty regularly. It's one of my favorite spots in town. Really small and cozy but definitely worth the wait for a seat a the bar or a table if you're a larger group. Plates are small but filling. My favorites are the agnolotti and egg in ravioli. I was actually so inspired by the egg in ravioli dish I bought a pasta machine to make my own! Service can be a bit spotty if they're super busy. Highly highly recommend the porchetta - it's so flavourful and melts in your mouth. I really enjoyed the ambiance of this little bar. It is very tiny, but it works for them. Its almost nice that it is small because it makes it feel exclusive in a way. It is very cool on the inside and the lighting is really nice. Had the Prosciutto di Parma, and it was very tasty. It was a nice addition to the drinks! They gave us some breadsticks as well which was great. I loved seeing some trendy female bartenders behind the wood! I find mixology can sometimes be male dominated so it was awesome to see some women concocting the drinks. Received great service on a quieter Sunday night from Aven (sp?). It was my husband's and my first time at Bar Bricco and overall we left satisfied and happy. Items ordered: Egg yolk raviolo Fonduta Agnolotti Chef's special crostini with fresh shucked peas, mint and lemon caccio y pepe 18 month prosciutto di parma Chocolate truffles for dessert Everything was executed well and generous with flavour. The pasta dishes were beautiful. The taste profile of a few of the dishes were very similar though - a combination of butter, parmesan and pepper. Perhaps our fault for not realizing we ordered dishes that used very similar ingredients. The house made focaccia that accompanied the prosciutto was heavenly, warm and fluffy. I couldn't get enough! The prosciutto was some of the best i've tried - not overly salty or fatty and melt in your mouth tender. According to our server, the cured meats are sourced from Spinelli's. Good to know. Loved the chef's special crostini with fresh peas - it was fresh, savoury, tangy and delicious. The chocolate truffles were a slight disappoint though - although creamy and chocolatey- i found them overly salty so it ruined the taste profile. We both had some bevvies to accompany our meal - myself a glass of the Gewurztraminer and my husband, a couple glasses of Peroni. Our bill came to $105 including tax. There was three of us that decided to gather here for a small birthday gathering. I was super excited to try this place, as I've had it bookmarked for awhile. I arrived separately from the other two, I actually walked right past the door thinking it was all part of Corso 32 (which does have a sign). I walked all the way to remedy before I realized that I needed to turn around... As there is no signage on the door, the window nor above the door where most signage is, this is important for me to share as much as if you are mobility limited like me, I'd suggest to have someone to drop you off at the door. The parking can be hard to find if something is happening at the arena, that night happened to be a playoff game. The food itself was delectable, arrived quickly and the girls were very happy with their wine choices. Tip for those that are trying a few plates to share, order a meat choice to go with whatever else you pick. I suggest this as there's more bread that comes with that selection than say the cheese or egg choices. Believe me, you definitely want more than enough bread for all choices you're sharing as some played would be classified as good enough to lick the plate clean. Whatever you do, make sure you have room for the truffles at the end. OMG. Melt in your mouth awesomeness. I'm still dreaming of them, thus me writing this review. The place had really interesting decor and definitely a fun gathering spot. However, if you're looking for a quiet place to have conversations this is not the place to go. As its a small venue, you tend to be talking quite loud to be able to communicate even with a small group. Granted, when we did switch to a table it got a bit easier to talk but then we had to always watch how we sat as it was easy to accidentally bump the person behind you. Service was quick and polite but it lacked a bit of the basics like making sure we all had plates, filling water regularly, asking if the girls wanted more wine or bread before whisking away with empty item. It got to a point we felt like we had to do quick strategizing every time we wanted something, by placing the empty item in a visible area but close enough to us we could slow her down before she vanished again. The bill was pretty high at the end but again the food was fantastic. Definitely worth trying again but I'll be a bit more aware of events happening downtown next time I try this location, as I think the fullness of the venue played into some of this experience. read more

This was one of my most memorable dining experiences. It doesn't surprise me as it's an extension of Corso 32, which when I first ate there a few years ago, it too was one of the best meals I've had. The menu is mostly in Italian with certain words you can pick out like brown sage butter, truffle oil, pecorino cheese...all things that indicate absolute deliciousness. Every item we ordered was nothing short of amazing. Come hungry as dishes are rich and many come with fresh bread. We ordered: Egg Yolk Raviolo, Ricotta & Boschetto Al Tartufo: a large ravioli with a perfectly yolky egg in the centre that oozes out with you cut into it. Fonduta Agnolotti Dal Plin, Sage butter, parmigianio: fresh ravioli with a creamy cheesy filling that you dip in sage butter and roll in cheese...each bite is an explosion of flavor. Egg moliterno 'cacio e Pepe', crostini: the creamiest scrambled eggs I've ever had with what I'm sure was hints of truffle oil, that you spread on garlic infused crostini. The 1/2 salumi tasting plate: a selection of their house cured meats. Comes with savory cheese sticks to wrap the meat...to die for! Beef Tartar: apologies, I can't seem to pick out what this dish was called on the menu, however it was the best tartar I've ever had. It was so well prepared full of citrus flavor. It was so fresh and flavorful, a must try for sure. The 1/2 Formaggi tasting plate: a selection a cheese to compliment the cured meat. Combined with the honey that comes with it...I can't even describe how complimentary all the flavors work together Wish we had room for dessert, but we were stuffed. There was four of us, and none of us left hungry. Including 6 drinks, we paid about $55 per person. An amazing value for the experience. The space is small, so they don't take reservations, and I wouldn't recommend a bigger party then 4 people. Come early to guarantee yourself a table. Our server was also very good. Sooo helpful. She didn't mind translating and explaining the menu items to us. She also made an accurate estimation on how many dishes will be enough food for us. Bar Bricco is the second restaurant of Daniel Costa's soon to be trifecta empire. This one specializes as a spuntini bar, aka. snacks/small bites/noshes. The place itself is tiny with only three tables and a reverse L-shaped wooden bar. At most, it has 28 seats but there is standing room along the front. Hence, the no reservation policy. Get here early if you want a prime seating spot. We went on a Saturday evening (6:30pmish) and either due to the fugly weather or boxing match on that night, we had no trouble finding a place a seat at the bar. Hell yeah. No wait. That's a win in my books. The interior is slick, modern and contemporary with two meat slicers gleaming behind the bar. Watch the staff work magic on those machines. It's almost hypnotizing. The bar setup gives the place a casual, relaxed ambiance. However, one complaint I had is with the hooks underneath the bar. Great that you can stash your coat and belongings away but they're oddly spaced out. You'd think there'd be one every two seats but that wasn't the case. Just a small but noticeable thing that I hope Bar Bricco fixes. - Aglianico ($48.00 bottle) - I'm no expert when it comes to wine but my one friend sure is. After getting a few recommendations from the barman, we decided to try out a bottle of red wine, the Aglianico. It was excellent paired with all of the food that we ordered. - Fennel, mint and pistachio salad ($14.00) - we thought it'd be a smart idea to order something light and refreshing. This was the only available salad option. A generous amount of pistachios (yummmmm), the mint was fresh but subtle and the fennel had a crisp, crunchy bite. The amount (read: filling) and quality actually justified the $14.00 price point. - Egg yolk raviolo, ricotta and boschetto al tartufo ($14.00) - my friend has been to Bar Bricco more times that I can count on two hands so I let her do the choosing. Before I tasted the egg yolk raviolo, she told me it was one of the best things she's ate in her life. High praise. Especially from her. Let's just say it lives up to the hype. One delicious raviolo topped with fried sage and sprinkled with ricotta cheese. Cut it open and watch that perfectly cooked, golden orange yolk ooze out. Smooth, creamy, and decadent. - Eggs moliterno 'cacio e pepe' and crostini ($15.00) - rich, creamy, and indulgent is the best way to describe this dish. Similar in texture to the raviolo, the eggs moliterno is slow cooked and has a very smooth, velvety texture. Topped with truffle oil, cheese and pepper, this dish was bursting with flavour. You could really taste the truffle oil. - Salumi tasting plate ($26.00) - we were given five types of salumi to sample on our platter. We had (from center and rotating clockwise) the smoked pancetta, the prosciutto di parma (aged 16 months), mortadella, house-made porchetta, and black truffle salami. A generous portion of cured meats, all of which were excellent. Thinly sliced, aged and flavourful, this was more than enough for us to share. Served with grissini (cheese breadsticks), house-made focaccia and warm bread. Our barman recommended eating the prosciutto with the grissini. Nice combo. The focaccia was unbelievably light and fresh. I'd easily buy a loaf to take home to enjoy. Bar Bricco is a must if you haven't been yet. It reminds me of the small, charming restaurants back in Montreal. Nice to see there are a few places in Edmonton that rise above the rest. Daniel Costa of Edmonton's popular Corso 32, opened up Bar Bricco this past weekend. The Italian wine and spuntini bar (late night, small snacks) sits between his infamous Italian restaurant and the old home of downtown's Transcend, soon to be a third restaurant of the acclaimed chef. Contrasting Corso 32′s "reserve two weeks in advance or good luck to you!" stance, Bar Bricco does not take reservations. Which was intriguing enough that got me thinking, I need to go ASAP or else I'll never get to try it once word gets out. So Saturday night, Joe and I headed down with the hopes of nabbing two seats. Our server/bar tender was excellent, super knowledgeable with the drinks and menu, which you can view at the end of the post (photos). Neither of us are extensive wine drinkers so we opted for our usual. Joe ordered the Deschutes "Mirror Pond" pale ale, and I ordered the Aperol Spritz, something both Cafe Amore and Woodwork made me quite fond of. Delicious! Although I preferred Cafe Amore's concoction because I'm a definite lightweight and like things with juice. But on to more yummy things! First to come out was the salumi tasting board. From top, clockwise and the center on my photo: speck (a smoked proscuitto), mortadella, Proscuitto Di Parma, housemade porchetta, and Finocchiona. All of which are imported from various regions in Italy, except of course the house made porchetta. My favorite? The Finocchiona, a Tuscan salami that is flavored with fennel seeds. De-frickin-licious. The plate is served with grissini, housemade pencil-sized bread sticks, and a plate of crostini, lightly rubbed with garlic and olive oil. When I asked Joe which was his favorite, he said he liked the ham. They're... all technically... ham. What he really meant was the mortadella. Because we couldn't have enough of meat... our second dish was the carne cruda Piemontese, essentially chopped beef and otherwise known to us as steak tartare. The Italian version of it though is quite simplified, without addition of Worcestershire, and instead a blend of lemon juice, olive oil, truffle oil, salt and pepper, and topped with grated Parmagiano Reggiano. More specifically Vacche Rosso, a cheese made from and named after the native red cows of northern Italy, richer in flavor and slightly creamier. Whoa. This was good stuff! Cut to order, the carne cruda was beautifully done. Nothing says Italian food than a pasta dish, and with three of them on the menu, it was hard not to pass on it. The egg yolk ravioli came out as a single portion, meant to be cut into to let the yolk meld with the sage butter sauce. And meld it did. Beautiful and with a very slight hint of sourness from the housemade ricotta filling. God. I could eat a gazillion of these. Or maybe 4 is good too... but honestly. So well done. Our last dish for the night was agnolotti dal plin, an rectangular ravioli "al plin" or "pinched" to form their distinct shape. Meant to be picked up, dipped in the sage butter sauce, and then into the Parmagiano. Super cute way of eating pasta! Filled with salumi and bread crumbs, the filling was quite light and the thin wrapping really reminded me of the texture of wontons... of course, only I would say such a thing. Great dish if you're with a group of people! I rue the days that Joe goes to his parents to eat lunch and is too full to try more dishes! It really messes with my eating. But with drinks and four dishes under our belts, both of us were full. The crowd had petered in and out while we were there, most being family and friends, and those in the industry. Chef Costa was out and about chatting and even poured a few Aperol Spritz for some lucky ladies. We were coincidentally sitting beside the designer of the interior, Joe Johnson, who also designed the Corso 32 space and is currently designing the neighboring space for the third restaurant. The design was based around a gorgeous proscuitto slicer (pictured, above Chef Costa's hand!), a centerpiece of the restaurant although unbeknownst to us when we entered the restaurant. Tip: Seat yourself at the right end of the bar when you enter for prime proscuitto slicing action. Also, there's hooks on the bottom of the bar counter for your jackets and purses. I chose to put my purse on the ground as it was clean for opening, which prompted Joe (the designer, not my Joe) to ask me why I did so. It's not the design, my purse had nearly a kilo of items, I swear. I was reassured that those hooks could manage heavy purses. And don't get too whoozy on wine, there's "Mr. Clean"-clean glass walls surrounding the entrance and a glass door enroute to the washrooms. Don't want to walk into those! Congratulations to Daniel Costa and his team for the opening and thank you for the lovely experience! Looking forward to future visits to Bar Bricco! They're open 6pm-1am Wednesday through Sunday. The moment you walk into Bar Bricco you feel your in some trendy place in Vancouver. The small restaurant oozes character with the vintage meat cutters to the black honey comb tile. Getting a spot is like pulling the slot machine in Vegas but that just adds to the ambulance. So why am I not on board with the rest of Canada's option on this place ? I felt the servers were cold non responsive and almost Vulcan like. We sat right at the bar and asked a couple servers there suggestions on the menu. The robot response from all of them was the same " we have a selection of salami and fromages. ( I get that from the menu). I asked what's the most popular as we were lost in the land of meat and cheese choices. Again no help or repor building just the Vulcan response. I feel that in such a intimate setting that your server should and can get to know you and have some great guidance with the menu. We had the fennel salad delicious pairing with the pistachios however the salad dressing was too acidic. Fonduta Aggonito amazing. Sage butter fresh pasta cheese. This dish is probably served in heaven !! Long skinny bread stick are buttery and yummy. Meat & Cheese tasting plate nothing special. And for the price you could get the same quality in house made for a fraction of the price when you go to the farmers market. The plate lacked style and the 1/2 teaspoon of jam and honey truffle just wasn't enough to share or tasted with cheeses. Would I go back. We've walked past this no-reservation little brother to Corso 32 at least 3 times during our many visits and walked on as it was simply over subscribed. Tonight, however, it being Boxing Day evening, we were in luck and, having just ordered wine at the bar, were beckoned to our table where a lovely meal was thoroughly enjoyed. We each, separately and respectively slurped down a white from the Abruzzo region and a lovely Rose by the glass. Should have bought a bottle. We primarily focused on the small plates ordering warm olives that were yummy, prosciutto that was accompanied by the most divine bread, a ricotta-stuffed shell dunked in sage butter and then rolled in grated Parmesan cheese, and, finally, a fennel and pistachio salad tossed in a beautiful vinaigrette. More glasses of wine were ordered giving us the courage to loosen our belts and press our gluttony further by ordering honey-drizzled cheese featuring black truffle ribbons that made us weep as we loosened one more notch on our belts. We will return to Bar Bricco when next we visit our daughter, son-in-law and beautiful grandson who is perfect in every way. read more

I'm a pretty big fan of Daniel Costa and I really enjoyed the experiences I've had at Corso32 as well as Uccellino. I came to Bar Bricco with the same expectations I've had for all of his establishments however this is the first time they weren't met or exceeded. Still they deserve 3 stars and I hope I can improve the rating through my future visits. So lets start with the things I appreciated... Vinyl records of classic favorites playing at a good level, a big wooden bar, small cozy atmosphere, and visible charcuterie prep area behind a glass sneeze guard. Sitting at the bar there were hooks for your jacket/sweater & purse/bag which I'm sure is appreciated during the long cold Edmonton winters. Now to a few of the challenges I had with truly enjoying my dinner... Plateware & presentation of the food. Almost everything comes out on white plates that aren't necessarily designed for each dish. The beef carpaccio was on a small dessert plate with the meat right to the edge and slightly hanging off. This made it challenging for the server to hold the plate without touching the actual food, which makes the OCD in me cringe. As well it's not served with any bread/pita/crackers/etc to eat it with. If the server informed me that it doesn't come that way I'd have just ordered a side of bread but instead we waited for the bread to get warmed before we dug in. The flavor combinations were good but the 'Tonnato' (a mayonaisse like sauce) overpowered the delicately sliced meat. The other flavors were also quite punchy: deep fried capers, radish, and parsley. Back to the issue of plateware, the cheese, bread, meats, and sauce were all on separate white plates. It didn't feel cohesive or connected. We got the $30 mixed tasting plate which includes 3 cheeses (hard, medium, and soft), 3 meats (proscuitto, salami, and mortadella), and two condiments (flavor infused honey & a jam). I think the presentation would be nicer if it was on one platter/plank/plate but that definitely didn't affect the taste of each item and the tasty combinations. The service was also disjointed and confusing. We were served by a few different servers which is good for efficency but didn't provide any continuity. Our female server was clearly going through the motions of a server with no emotion. It lead to a disapointing experience which is different then any other Costa-led restaurant. I will give Bar Bricco a second and probably even a third chance because of its genes but I'll need to see improvement for it to get into my regular rotation. read more

I would give this one a 4.5 if I could. Really cozy warm place that makes you feel like you are at home. Really cool vibe to hang out with the girls or for a quaint date with a special someone. It is small though and with no reservations, this would be difficult to get into without waiting along time. Extensive wine menu and some good cocktails as well as craft beer. My friend and I decided to split a few items - Soft Scrambled Eggs 'Cacio e Pepe' Black Truffle Pecorino & Crostini, Beets 'Agrodolce' Ricotta Crema, Poppy Seeds & Fresh Horseradish, Fonduta Agnolotti Sage Butter & Parmigiano Reggiano, as well as the Individual Misto Selection of Italian Salumi & Cheeses. We also shared a bottle of the Villa Medoro MONTEPULCIANO, Abruzzo. Things came out in a spaced manor so we could enjoy all the dishes on their own which I appreciated. Everything was AMAZING. Definitely a highlight was the Fonduta Angolotti. It was really fun to take the individual pockets of pasta and dip it in the sage butter and then into the cheese. Also worth mentioning was the pairing of the beets with the ricotta and poppy seeds with horseradish. Such a lovely combination of flavours. I also appreciated the freshness of the meat and cheese plate...and for ordering an individual plate there was certainly a nice amount for one person. Definitely a great place for high quality food for a very reasonable price. At the end of the night, we ordered the Tuscan Amadei Chocolate Truffles. One slight hiccup was that we wanted an espresso or an Americano and they bluntly said that they don't serve any coffee products which I found really bizarre. Stopped in for a birthday dinner for a friend. Was the first to arrive and on a Wednesday evening. I managed to snag us one of the only 3 table available. If the tables are full there are quite a few seats at the bar or you can stand on the small sidewalk patio. As usual we went with sharing style dining so we could sample more of the dishes. We dined on the following dishes. First up was the Egg ravioli which is basically one large ravioli filled with vibrant orange yolk. Sprinkled with cheese and drizzled in browned butter infused with saje. This dish was awesome. the yolk was perfectly cooked and the butter was oh so yummy. Warning this dish is super rich and if you have it to yourself it is deceptively filling for its size. The Egg Margorolie looks like a big plate of cheesy scrambled eggs and that is exactly what it is. Well maybe not exactly, as it's way more saucy and cheesy then what you would have at home. Yum Fennel salad; so refreshing. This dish is garnished with a few pistachios and bits of mint and pomegranate seeds. It dressed with a simple lemon and olive oil dressing. This dish is perfect for sharing. If I had it to myself I feel like it may be a bit of fennel overload. Steak tartare with arugula salad and crustinis. The crustinis here were burnt and unfortunately sort of overwhelmed the flavour of the tartare. The plates were not changed out between the different dishes so I also had a pretty overwhelming flavour of the lemon and olive oil dressing from the salad. But overall I'd say the meat was really nice. We finished our meal with a tasting plate. For $30 you get a fair amount. The meat plate had three types of cured meat. A really great black truffle salami, finely sliced prosciutto, and thicker slices of mortadella. The cheese plate had a small sample of truffle moriterno, pecorino tuscano, and finally the locally made ricotta. The sample plate also included a bit of truffle honey and a dallop of some kind of jam? I have to say the ricotta really knocked my boots off. It was so light and fluffy and combined with the truffle honey well I was pretty much in heaven. Oh and bread. Three types of bread to be exact. My favourite was the light and fluffy brioche. It's the kind of bread you just have to enjoy on it's own. So delicious... Sigh. The breadsticks weren't really a hit with any of us but we were all very full at this point aswell. Disclaimer: My visit was in February and March of 2020. Why am I writing a review on a restaurant based on a meal I had 18 months ago? Because it was just that good. Foolishly confident in securing a table for two at 32 Corso on a Friday night sans reservations, we retreated to the warmth of Bar Bricco to burn through the projected 45-minute wait time. Non-descript in its exterior, Bar Bricco achieves the ensconced coziness that you crave in a wine bar, where the surrounding conversations and dim lightning drown out the tribulations and snowfall of the outside world. Excuse my snobbery when I say I felt transported to my favorite spots in New York and Milan; as a lifelonger of the former and a former resident of the latter, I have a fairly concrete idea of what a good wine bar should be and in no way do I believe they're exclusive to cosmopolitan cities. Am I an expert? No. But I trust my taste. After being seated and factoring in check-out time and a 15 minute buffer in case our table was ready sooner, I ordered what I thought was appropriate for that sliver of time. A formaggi and salumi plate, a side of olives, and a two glasses seemed like the right call. I can't explain why, but i'm a huge fan of mortadella. I fucking love it. And wherever they sourced it from, it was one from the heavens. Their other selections were perfect and didn't have that rancid outer ring that most other spots get away with. It was pinkish-red from the edge to the center. I'll be brought to my knees by a good ricotta salata; the fact that their's was made in-house was humbling. If you must, ask for extra helpings of the truffle honey and jam because you'll need it to match up to the portions that are akin to dinner at grandma's. And whatever was in hand at the time, we sucked that bottle of nebbiolo mother fuckin bone dry. That 45 minutes went by fast. read more

This place is definitely not your typical sports bar experience, but rather a quiet place to enjoy quality drinks with good appetizers. Place seemed little too dark, but it gave it a nice intimate look. I would definitely recommend to take your loved one here for a date night. read more

the atmosphere here is moody but in a good way. It is a very cozy and upscale spot. It is located downtown so parking can be a bit of a hassle during peak hours. A great little date spot. Drinks were amazing, and the food was very good quality. You could tell a lot of care and skill went into the food and it was flavourful to boot. From what I understand, they make all of their pasta fresh by hand and in house! The reason I gave bar bricco three stars is because I think it is a bit too expensive considering the very very very small portions. The quality of the food itself I would give 5 stars. If you are not too concerned about cost then I highly recommend bar bricco. read more

Bar Bricco is my new favourite after work spot for wine and cheese downtown. Get there early to get a table, it fills up fast! Whether at the bar or at a table, you're guaranteed a great selection of cheese, meats and wines. Favourite things about Bar Bricco: -you can order 3 oz glasses of wine, so you can try a few different kinds while still keeping your wits about you -you can also do a half meat half cheese platter which has yet to disappoint, offering a great variety in plentiful quantities -the ricotta raviolis that you dip in sage butter and then roll in shaved parm... They are melt in your mouth delicious! -the focaccia that comes with the meat and cheese platter is so warm and tasty, with a slight bit of coarse salt n top Ok, writing this review is making me want to return. It is great to finally be able to eat food designed by Danny Costa without having to make a reservation seven months in advance :D. I met up with a friend on a weekday evening to enjoy this bar. It's definitely got the vibe of a casual, yet swanky, meeting spot. The service is efficient, the food fantastic and the ambience friendly. The Eggs Moliterno are particularly good. I didn't expect to be blown away by eggs! Slow cooked so as to make the eggs velvety smooth. The Piemontese Carne Cruda, an Italian take on beef tartare, was exceptional too. Fresh, good ingredients well executed. Well done. I glanced upon the cheese and charcuterie board and was glad to see some not so common ones on the menu. I can't wait to go back and eat more food at the bar, with a side of delicious Amaro. However, I left hoping they had more than just a few great wines and digestifs on offer. I would much rather spend $13 on a good cocktail than $18 on a Sangiovese. Perhaps this bar is not meant for me? I don't know though - given the recent bar scene in Edmonton, one would expect Bar Bricco to customise to the scene. If it is only a wine bar, then remove the tired and uninspired list of three cocktails from the menu, or else replace them with something cool and trendy. read more

Apertivi Sunday is amazing. You get to sample creative little dishes with your order. The egg yolk ravioli was exceptional. Also enjoyed the agnolotti. The mixed salumi and formaggi platter was a great value and featured some great high end and conventional products. The focaccia had a a wonderful pillowy texture and the baguette was sourced from the well liked local bakery bonjour. The condiments were fantastic as well. I've had amazing food and drink every time I've been to Bar Bricco! The first time I went, my only complaint would have been that wine by the glass was very expensive. Since then, they've added some less expensive wines to the list. I'm not sure if I could pick a favorite dish, because everything is amazing, but the egg yolk ravioli . . . oh man! It's like you've died and gone to heaven. The cotechino sausage is also amazing. Other than that, I always enjoy getting the cheese tasting plate, which usually comes with four or five cheeses and some delicious condiments. Oh, and the house made bread!!! So good. read more
