This was one of the highlights of our year! We came here for our anniversary. The atmosphere was sophisticated. The staff were friendly and attentive. And the food was absolutely amazing. I ordered the farro salad with chicken, it was hands down the best salad I have ever had! Every bite was different and you would think that too many items would make it confusing but it all worked together. Clearly an expert chef put that one together. Hubs had the black cod spaghetti with curry cream sauce, it was also amazing. It was definitely Asian fusion but it really worked! Our desserts were delicious, the butter cake was delicious and I'm not really a fan of cake. My creme brule was also good, standard vanilla, nothing exceptional but still good. All together a really wonderful experience and I would come back here in a heartbeat. read more

Ever wanted to feel like a prisoner? You know a place to get bad food? Maybe have some undeserved shame thrown at you and be held under duress?? Well, there is need to break the law! Just make your way to XIX. We went in on a Thursday evening and were seated in the lounge. The salad we ordered to share as an appie was good. Drinks were delicious. We ordered the Coconut Atlantic Salmon and the Tenderloin Steak medium rare. The salmon was good, but the steak was cooked beyond well done - so much so that it was chewy. I asked to have the steak sent back and ordered the Harvest Salad instead. After a little while, my partner was almost done their meal and my salad had not arrived, so I asked to have the order cancelled. The server said she would cancel it, then came back 5-10 minutes later to say that it was almost ready and asked if I still wanted it. By this point my partner was almost done with their meal. I said I'd still like it cancelled and ordered a dessert to take home. The server arrived after about another 5 minutes with a box. Thinking it was the dessert, I was about to ask for the bill, but she said it was the salad and I could take it or leave it. I told her I did not want it, she said she would leave it, and repeated that I could leave it if I wanted. The dessert came soon after along with the bill. The salad was still on the bill. I asked to have it removed and the server said she could not. She called over the manager who said they were not going to take it off the bill because I took too long to cancel it. I explained that I cancelled it, at least 5 minutes passed before it was "almost ready," and then it arrived another 5-10 minutes after that, so I did not want it, nor did I want to pay for it. She said they had already "comped" the steak so I had to pay for the salad. I told her there was nothing to "comp." The steak was inedible (I had one bite out of it and returned it), so not something to comp. It was an awful meal that no one should have to pay for. I had asked for the salad to be canceled, so again, I was not asking to have anything for free. My night was ruined, I was upset, and just wanted to leave. At this point, I didn't even care anymore, I told her I'd pay for the salad and wanted to go home. The manager said she'd ask the chef if he would take it off the bill. Again, I said no and asked for the bill with the salad so I could just leave, but she left anyway. What felt like at least another 10 minutes passed before she came back. This time she said the chef had taken the drinks off, but I had to pay for the salad. The whole experience was terrible, but the last bit felt like I was being held hostage. I wanted to pay and leave, but couldn't because they wouldn't give me the bill. We took our boxes and left. I still don't know what the point of all this was. Sure they don't want to loose money. Then why offer a steak you don't know how to cook? And, comp? Do they know what that means? There is nothing complementary about having inedible food you cannot eat taken off your bill. I ordered the salad and cancelled. I don't know how their kitchen works, even if I had taken too long to cancel, I did not deserve to be kept there after I agreed to pay for it. They took the drinks off and not the salad? I think the difference what $8. Does the $8 matter that much to them? Was it some deranged power move?? ... like a "haha, we won't let you have your way!" Oookay, you guys win! Guess I shouldn't argue with a guy who can't cook a steak. He must know better than me. read more

We have visited XIX Nineteen St. Albert several times now, and it really is a great place to have a nice meal. The cocktails are well crafted, and the service is top notch. The Ahi Tuna Twists are always a must have for us! Last night we had goat cheese encrusted beef tenderloin, and the pork belly and scallop risotto. The Tenderloin was a 10/10! Presentation for both was great. I'm usually a risotto lover, but I would recommend the hoisin short ribs or the Waygu ricotta gnocchi if you want to be wowed (tried on previous visits). read more

The most attentive and consistent level of service at both locations. Their level of service has made Nineteen stand out for me the most. The OG spot, arriving for Sunday night dinner, it wasn't much of a busy service night. With 2 prominent servers managing the few present tables, food came out quick and he was diligent to keep our cups full. Ahi Tuna Twist - ($18) - Spicy thai noodles, topped with a lightly seared tuna slice with a dab of cilantro aioli served on a bed of asian slaw. This could be the only dish on the menu and I'd still keep coming back. So many flavors going on in one bite that all work tremendously well together. The acidity from the slaw, to the crunch and saltiness of the noodles, fresh cut of flavor from the aioli and how fresh is that bite of fish?! My favorite from Nineteen and thankfully, the recipe for this appi is also in "Edmonton Cooks." No questioning how loved this dish is! Atlantic Lobster Ravioli - ($34) - Consisted of Lobster stuffed ravioli with spicy sambuca prawns on top, smothered with a roasted tomato cream sauce finished with a hefty sprinkle of red chili flakes. Sauce was creamy with a hefty amount of garlic and onions in it, a bit too overwhelming as the key word lobster was masked in the dish. Definitely had a kick to it which I enjoyed. Hoisin Glazed Beef Short Ribs - ($38) - Beautiful, melt in your mouth lump of glazed short ribs with a beautiful bearnaise sauce with a side of veggies. We subbed the onion rings for Jasmine rice, because asian. Which was a brilliant choice on how well the rice soaked up all that extra sauce. Their appetizers are never a wrong choice but I still have yet to find an entree to fall in love with. Still looking forward to try and make it here for brunch! read more

I've been to this restaurant twice. The first time was for Brunch and the service was absolutely terrible. The food is mediocre for the price. The second time we went was Friday around 5 pm and were seated by one of the three hostesses. There was absolutely nobody working in there. Not even a bartender. Almost all the tables were full and everyone just kept looking around for a server. After waiting for 15 minutes we walked out and went to Delux burger bar and had amazing service and dinner. 19 really needs to do something about their lack of servers. read more

I had to come back with an update after recently dining here. I now have mixed feelings. In the past, I've only come for happy hour and all was great (see previous review). I came for brunch this time. The restaurant was very quiet; in fact, there were only 3 other tables aside from ours. Traffic came and went so once one table left another group arrived. I was watching the clock and it took the waitress 30-45 mins to bring out our drinks and appetizers! Our meals came out another 35 mins after. We arrived at 11 and didn't get our food till 12:30. This was by far the longest I have ever waited for food in a restaurant. I've eaten at places on busy nights and the max I've waited was 45 mins. This was ridiculous. Their brunch menu was just okay. I've had better breakfast foods elsewhere. Pricing was reasonable but I personally wouldn't come back here for brunch in the future. read more

I had the tenderloin which was probably the best steak I've had in a little while. Well cooked and jus a great plate of food that I could enjoy many more times after today. We also had the lobster ravioli that was alright but still delicious in its own way. The lady at the door was super nice and told us to try the short ribs which I regret not getting instead of the lobster. Our server was very knowledgeable of the menu but she could of been a little more welcoming. All in all I'll deff come back but most likely to the Terwilliger location. read more

We tried this place for a date night and were not disappointed. It is very nice, classy! It has the feel of a nice place not just a chain. The service is great and the servers are very knowledgable. The wine was great. Tried crab cakes and calamari to start, both were good. Not amazing but very good. The seasonal halibut was amazing! The salmon was a bit small but very good. However the sides were great and we left full!! Now I will admit this place is pricey! Like more than I would spend most days BUT worth it. Great place for a special event! read more

Mid-November marked the grand opening of XIX's (Nineteen's) second location, the Terwillegar eatery expanding to St. Albert's Shops at Boudreau. I had the amazing opportunity to taste the menu alongside Edmonton's media last week and I can honestly say that Nineteen will bring a much needed dining experience to Edmonton's north as well as to the residents of St. Albert. I will be upfront about this: I have not dined at Nineteen before. Ever. I remember when they first opened, I had just started food blogging. I remember thinking, "I'll make it down there one day. Some day. When I'm in Terwillegar." Yeah, hasn't happened. What kills me is that I hear nothing but good things about Chef Andrew Fung's food. In fact, every time I've tried his dishes (at events, festivals, etc), I've had very positive experiences. It's mind boggling that I haven't tried Nineteen, I know. Apologies! I'm told that the design of the space is similar to its Edmonton location, an open and comfortable space. Nineteen's lounge accommodates both kinds of crowds, those who want to sit at a table and lounge in comfort or sip on cocktails at bar height. The dining side is warm, sophisticated and features various artwork in a gallery format. The best view in the restaurant is hands down the full glass window into the open kitchen. It's not uncommon to see a lot of spaces feature open kitchens, but there's something about Nineteen's that really makes it a winner. Well lit, spacious, and a full on view of the team in crisp uniforms and aprons and working in the cleanest possible environment -- you know you're in good hands. Chef Andrew Fung welcomed our group and right off the bat told us that we were in the hands of St. Albert's Head Chef Rino Lam for the night, a graduate of the NAIT Culinary Arts and Red Seal program with over 15 years years of culinary experience. Our night started off with martinis, the Pear-Jito (Grey Goose La Poire vodka, Bacardi Limon rum, muddled mint, lemonade, lime juice, cane sugar reduction, and Q sparkling water) was right up my alley; and the (unphotographed) Blue Lavender (Grey Goose Citron vodka, St. Germain elderflower liqueur, muddled blueberries, lavender), a subtle flowery drink perfect for summer. Not only were the cocktails impressive, but so was the wine list at Nineteen. It's a good thing I work in St. Albert. Something tells me this will be my new hangout spot to catch up with north Edmonton friends. Proscuitto and bread with espresso aioli was our first of many appetizers for the night. The 'Fung Bun' features a citrus soy-glazed pressed pork belly from Irvings Farm, nestled with pickled red onions, cucumbers, green onions in a soft pillowy steamed bun. Love! Nineteen's 'Garlic Quebec Duck Wings' can be be done two ways: a spicy honey garlic sauce or fried garlic, shallot, scallion, and child flakes. The latter was our bite for the night, the wings wonderfully confit and perfect for those on the lounge side. God, I love duck. The crust on this was amazing! A 'Spicy Miso Albacore Tuna Tartar' was well-balanced and just a hint of heat, the spicy miso dressing not overpowering the taste of the fish. The plating on this dish was fantastic, huge bursts of colour! Dinner featured a dish that I couldn't find on the menu, although hopefully one that would return! The 'Miso-Marinated Sablefish' with wild mushrooms and rapini was beautifully done and one of my favourites for the night. I'm always a big fan of lighter seafood dishes. Our second entrée: 'Alberta 'AAA' Beef Tenderloin' on a bed of bright beet risotto, Quebec goat cheese crusted zucchini, baby arugula, and crushed walnuts. My tenderloin was moist and cooked to perfection, the risotto rich and creamy. As if our table wasn't already stuffed to the brim, an array of desserts came out to end the night. A couple of my tablemates proclaimed they weren't "dessert people". This is about the equivalent of me saying, "I've never been to Nineteen." Borderline offensive. Just kidding. But seriously. Nineteen's dessert selection will turn anybody into a "dessert person"! A scrumptious apple pie (with a crust that will make you ponder how they got it so flaky), a "Pizookie", that's pizza cookie for those wondering, a brown butter bite and cheesecake, if I remember correctly. I was in a dessert coma, I'm sorry. Describing Nineteen's food is hard. I suppose it is considered fusion, Canadian cuisine done with hits of Asian flavours. But to be frank, I think they're spot on with describing it as simply great food. And that's more of a rarity than you would think. Prices are moderate-high (with all mains between $30-40) and I would hope that the portions reflected that evening were tasting portions only. I hope to be back for dinner (and brunch! FORTHELOVEOFGOD, they have brunch on weekends) before the end of the year and I am excited for more refined cuisine for those who live close to the area. read more

My fiancé and I came here for brunch on the first Sunday after the New Year. No reservations were required when I called ahead to check as both sides of the restaurant are open (lounge and dining room) Other than one large group seated in the dining room, and a couple seated in the lounge plus us, that was the extent of the clientele when we arrived. I think not many people are aware this location serves brunch. But only on weekends I believe The menu consists of either a page of brunch related items and a page of lunch related items (see the photos I posted of the current menu options) I opted for the breakfast sandwich which came with sides of roasted potatoes and some fresh berries. I found the breakfast sandwich just mediocre - although cooked well - the fact that it came with two scrambled eggs made it too "eggy" for my tastes. But I loved the potatoes which were seasoned and roasted to perfection. My fiancé ordered the bison burger off the lunch menu which came with fries. I never tried it but he enjoyed it immensely. Both locations of Nineteen make excellent burgers it seems as we really enjoyed the burger too at the Terwillegar location. Our server was pleasant and came to check on us at appropriate intervals. The space has been designed to look somewhat similar to the other location but with its own differences. The size itself is smaller than the Terwillegar location but attention to detail is excellent at both sites. Love the new complex it's in as it reminds of being in LA for some reason! Overall I would recommend Nineteen to those looking for a solid and consistent meal as the price, although may seem slightly higher to some, is worth it in quality in my opinion. read more

Came here on a Saturday night, the dining room was packed so we sat in the lounge. We decided to order 4 appetizers instead of mains. We had the short ribs and mushroom risotto, sriracha octopus, pepperocini octopus and pork belly fung buns. The risotto was inedible, it was super salty. The octopus was drenched in sriracha and that's all you could taste. Calamari was okay, the marinara sauce tasted canned, calamari was bland on its own. Pork belly buns were mediocre, need more bun to balance the saltiness of the pork belly. We ate half of the three spoonful portion of the risotto and they charged us the full amount. The only positive is our server was very nice and the sangria special kept me happy. Definitely not coming back, not worth the $50/person bill. read more

Really nice location and the interior is very pretty. Local ingredients are always a plus in my book. The beef short ribs and wild mushroom risotto was absolutely delicious, it was really creamy. We had an ahi tuna appetizer that was really great as well. The tomato and mozzarella salad was alright. The mozzarella was good but the tomatoes were OK at best, and the larger ones had a really weird texture to them. Cutting them in half showed that the insides were basically mush. I usually like my tomatoes crispy, so that didn't feel that great to chew on. Overall taste was OK but I didn't finish it because I didn't particularly like it. The duck was OK as well, nothing really to write home about. The corn fritters and potatoes however were really good. Delicious deserts however. Tried the apple tart, butter tart and the chocolate cake thing. All of them were really good. Caramel drizzel on popcorn is definitely something I could get into. Server was nice and polite, but was really bad at refilling my water. I was not drinking so I didn't have a bottle of wine in front of me. I ended up having to drink my girlfriend's water because I was tired of waiting for a water refill. Finally just ended up asking a different server. This is place definitely gets an A-OK, I would definitely come back and try some other things on the menu and see how that goes. read more

Brunching it up at XIX Nineteen for the first time. I've been to the Terwillegar location for dinner before, so I definitely was looking forward to the brunch. The brunch menu is small, but has something for everyone, even a small kids menu ($9 meals). The brunch items range in price from $14-$20. While I was very tempted to try the banana bread French toast, I opted for the eggs Benedict with back bacon, "fresh" berries, and roasted potatoes. The bearnaise was delicious, as I expected. My eggs were perfectly poached, and it was nice to have an English muffin I could actually cut through. I was so not impressed with the mouldy raspberries on my plate. Come on Nineteen, you're better than that and as soon as my plate was placed in front of me I could tell the raspberries were past being "fresh". My SO ordered the pancake stack which was 5 mini pancakes, which he said were soft and fluffy, bacon, and fresh berries. Apparently they also have a lunch menu? Would've been nice to be given that option as well as I know another diner who was there at the same time had lunch. We ate in the lounge, right at the bar. Our server was great, very friendly, and food came out quickly. I definitely give the brunch food 4/5, ignoring the slip up of giving me mouldy berries. XIX Nineteen is a popular destination for diners in the Terwillegar/Windermere area of Edmonton, and for good reason: the food and service are always top notch. After three successful years in Edmonton, Nineteen has expanded to a second location at the Shops at Boudreau in St. Albert. The restaurant space in St. Albert is similar to the location in Terwillegar, where a brightly lit (and incredibly clean!) open kitchen allows diners to watch the kitchen team expertly prepare plates for service. Modern accents complete the decor, giving the restaurant a chic, upscale feel. So how does St. Albert differ from Terwillegar? Aside from a slightly different menu, diners are in the hands of Head Chef Rino Lam, a graduate of the NAIT Culinary Arts program and certified Red Seal Chef with over 15 years of culinary experience. I had an opportunity to preview the menu, and I was excited to see what Chef Rino had in store for us. The evening kicked off with the Irving's Farm Pork Belly "Fung Bun" ($14), where citrus soy-glazed pressed pork belly, pickled red onions, cucumber and green onions are folded into a Chinese-style, soft steamed bun. The acidity from the onions cut the fattiness of the pork belly nicely, and the sweet and salty balance in this dish was perfect. I really wish more restaurants would serve buns! The Garlic Quebec Duck Wings ($15, lounge menu only) can be done two ways: with spicy honey garlic sauce or fried garlic, shallot, scallion, and chili flakes. Our wings were done with the latter, and they were delicious! The crispy coating gave way to fragrant confit duck wings with a kick of heat. An individual portion of Nineteen's Spicy Miso Albacore Tuna Tartare ($17) came next, dressed with avocado, tomato, deep fried garlic, shaved radish and a spicy miso dressing. The tuna was fresh and well seasoned, but I think what I loved the most was the beautiful pops of colour on the plate! When it came time for the mains, a delicate Miso Marinated Sablefish with wild mushrooms and rapini made it's way to the table. The buttery fish was cooked perfectly and would be fantastic for anyone looking for a lighter main dish. Unfortunately it isn't currently on the menu, but I hope it makes it there! Everyone was in for a treat when the Alberta AAA Beef Tenderloin ($38) hit the table. Sous vide and seared to a beautiful medium rare, the premium cut of beef was served with a vibrant beet risotto, Quebec goat cheese crusted zucchini, walnuts, and baby arugula. We were absolutely spoiled when it came to desserts as four different offerings were placed on the table. First up was an apple pie complete with a deliciously crispy, flaky crust and a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream. The pie wasn't overly sweet and would be a great finish to a meal! Next up came a warm brown butter cake, again with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. This is for those that love digging into a slice of cake while it's still warm! The cake is warm, moist, and tasted great combined with the ice cream and caramel sauce. Since it doesn't quite feel like "real winter" yet, Nineteen's dessert menu features a light pumpkin cheesecake dusted with graham crumb. The pumpkin is subtle, but what I liked about this cheesecake was the lighter texture. Without the density, it ends up being a cheesecake that isn't too rich after a heavy meal. Last but not least came the Pizookie - Nineteen's pizza cookie! Served straight from the oven in a sizzling hot skillet, this is everything that a chocolate chip cookie should be! Warm (read: hot!) from the oven, gooey, chocolatey, and served with ice cream. It's a sinfully rich dessert that is definitely worth all the calories. It's great to see local restaurants succeed and it's awesome that Nineteen has been able to open up a second location. I can't even count how many times I've heard people complain that Nineteen is too out of the way for them to visit, so hopefully this new spot in St. Albert can entice some Edmontonians to finally have their first taste of their Asian-inspired Canadian cuisine. The menu is definitely on the pricier end of things, so while Nineteen isn't a restaurant to visit everyday, it's a great spot for celebrations and special date nights. For those looking for something more budget friendly, Nineteen's lounge offers happy hour specials from 3-6 PM daily, so you can try cocktails and appetizers at a fraction of the cost. read more

TLDR: NO service was offered, entitled staff, will NEVER return I booked this restaurant to celebrate a special occasion as I had seen positive reviews online. Our reservation was for 5:30 pm on Friday May 3rd. We were quickly seated by the hostess and presented with menus. Five minutes go by, ten minutes go by when finally we realize no server has approached us. We waited another ten minutes before finally deciding to leave. Many servers made eye contact with us, a table near us even had their empty wine glasses cleared but the server had her back turned and didn't ask if we had been helped. We were not even offered water. The restaurant was NOT busy and there was plenty of staff. When we went to leave, the hostess did not apologize when we told her about the poor service. She smirked and kept repeating "okay." I have been eating out for many years and can say with certainty this is the worst service I have ever had because there wasn't any! Do not support a business that doesn't support its customers. I am glad we didn't spend any money at this disappointing establishment as it would have been more than $150. read more

The Family decided to go XXIX in St Albert for my Aunts birthday brunch. Tucked in the new development over on Belrose Drive this place is incredible. The decor just looks tight and on point. Cool lighting fixtures, warm table settings and a direct view right into the kitchen. I'm kind of a sucker for that, love watching the chefs do their thing. The brunch menu is a fair size with everything from a big breakfast to chicken and waffles. We quickly spotted a couple of my aunts friends sitting behind us. They were just finishing up, and recommended the chicken and waffles, then on cue an order of the chicken and waffles strolled by. I think that sealed the deal as our entire 6 top ordered them, save 1. So after about 20 minutes the chicken and waffle train arrived. This perfect egg waffle with expertly deep fried chicken wings and a couple delightful poached eggs all covered with a siracha aioli. Simply put, just amazing. Micro green and coleslaw round out the richness perfectly. Everybody was raving. After we all tapped out, my soon to b 16 year old cousin decided his huge breakfast with bacon, eggs, sausage, toast, and greens wasn't going to do the trick. So he orders a cinnamon roll, cool. What shows up is four pounds of dough covered in caramel and cinnamon sauce. Holy crap that kid can eat, he actually finished this beast of a pastry. He loved it! Apparently it had been made just hours previous from scratch. I'm excited to try more things on this menu and will b back again sooner that later. Great service also, after the bill had been paid our waitress picked up on the birthday vibe and brought out a little birthday chocolate with a sparkler. Definitely above and beyond. I can see where Brad T from New York is coming from. For the prices, you do expect an elevated level of customer service, which isn't really present here. What you do get is delicious food in a slightly upscale, yet inviting atmosphere. I met some friends for drinks around 8:30 on a Friday night and there was about a 20 minute wait for a table. If you're ordering a bottle of wine, you can order it while you wait and they'll pour you a glass in the waiting area - it's a nice little way of keeping you from leaving and heading somewhere else. In addition to the wine, we also ordered 3 dishes to share - but actually liked what was put in front of us so much that we each ended up just eating our own. Mine was the pressed beef sandwich, which was absolutely delicious. The fries were beautifully salty and crispy as well. Everyone at my table really enjoyed the food... though I can't speak to their dishes, since we didn't end up sharing at all! read more

I came here over May long weekend for brunch - my first visit! I booked my reservation online (a nice touch) in the event that it would be busy for the long weekend. Luckily for us, there were probably only 2 other tables seated. The shops on Boudreau are gorgeous and the restaurant is lucky to be next to such great neighboring shops. A huge downside, however, is the parking! You would think for such a newly developed area you'd have more than a couple angle parking spots (a good majority of the spots are 10 min parking only.) Upon arrival, I was immediately interested in the decor and overall atmosphere. It feels very upscale yet very welcoming all at the same time. One table held an elderly group and another a trendy, young group, so it is clear this restaurant attracts and caters too all kinds of people. The service was fairly prompt, but our server wasn't all that friendly. She wasn't rude either, just neutral, perhaps a little uninterested. We started off with a grapefruit mimosa each. These were delicious and refreshing. Immediately, the Chevre Scramble caught my eye. It was cheesy, a bit meaty, and shockingly sweet. Super delicious! My dad got the chicken and waffles. The chicken pieces were small but packed with flavour alongside a homemade waffle. The sriracha mayo wasn't spicy, just flavorful. Overall we both very much enjoyed our meals and the effort that went into presentation. Two more grapefruit mimosas and a discussion about the gorgeous kitchen setup later, we departed and did some shopping in the neighboring stores. I've only been to Nineteen once, so my review is based solely on that. The food was delicious but the portions were very small. The value for money is poor and for the high prices you would expect bigger portions. For 2 main courses and drinks we spent over $140 and were still hungry when we left. The service was average. The demographics within the resturant was individuals in their 50's+ who appeared to be well-off. Considering the competitors in the area it likely I will not be returning. read more

Nice place for dinner and dressing up. See-through open kitchen is the good scene of the restaurant. Warm service here. It would be better if sometimes the customer could have chance to communicate with the chef. The only flaw is a little bit noisy here. Maybe the restaurant is small. The food has never been very good here. My salmon was cooked good but the sauce was tasteless and runny. I also asked for veggies instead of pasta and they charged me extra for it. My creme brûlée came burnt and this was already after they brought me the wrong dessert and charged me for it. I don't recommend this place at all. Buco beside it is way better! read more

We have officially started venturing into St. Albert in these weeks for our culinary adventures :-) Not knowing my companion had chosen this location of XiX (in the past we went to the one on the South side), this location did not disappoint. The room seems a bit larger and its look is a bit different (one friend mentioned that she likes the one on the South side for the wood accents). I actually like this location because you feel that you are in a bit of a "neighbourhood" for how the shopping/restaurant area is designed. As well, I appreciate the size of the room as it doesn't seem small and tables are NOT (SO happy!) close together such that you can count the number of spaghetti strands someone has on his/her fork. This brings me to our meal.... first and foremost, TapaVino needs to take note, the photo I am including here is a dish (in which the juices won't fall on your patrons) and these are mussels (not clams). The mussels (Gorgonzola Creme Moules Frites) very good, prepared with a LIGHT gorgonzola sauce that was light enough to taste the mussels and not sticky. VERY good....another dish where if they can (and the waitress indicated the kitchen could, you would like to have this sauce with a dish of linguine). The dish was served with a small cup of cut fries. My only complaint is the bread (I would have preferred a ciabatta baked bread vs. the more dense...again, this is a personal preference). Our mains were the Atlantic Lobster Ravioli (my companion remembered his very positive experience at the South side XiX with the spaghetti he ordered there) and he was not disappointed. Perhaps there was a bit too much sauce (but this is something we, and others we know, have noticed and seems to not be changing) but it wasn't too salty and it was a cream based vs. butter based and not too salty (hurrah!). I ordered the Dungeness Crab Crusted Grouper which was delicious! On a bed of rapini with accompanying vegetables, it was nicely plated and really satisfying. For dessert, we didn't have any :-) When I have a really good meal, I don't want dessert and neither did my companion :-) We enjoyed our wine and ended our meal here.... Had a brunch date with the gal pals. Food was underwhelming. Everyone's dish was over salted or over sauced. Definitely had a better experience at the west end location. Decor is modern and casual. Staff were friendly and helpful. Not sure if I'll go back. read more

Amazing place to go for happy hour but it's busy. It is too bad that don't allow people to sit in the dining room at 3 pm and order off the bar menu. Prices reasonable and the food is very good. Horrible. I live in St Albert and have eating several times at this restaurant. Yesterday, August 29, I had a horrible experience. Since the moment I stepped in, I was constantly reminded that we are busy and fully booked. I had made a reservation on Wednesday, early enough to give us time to enjoy the dinner and our company. My partner and I felt pushed and rush to get to eat, drink and get out. This is not the way to run a business. We reserve the table and expected to have a calm and enjoyable time. But instead, the server told us that we needed to get out as the table was reserved and we had 2 hours only to use the table. This is not a way to run a business. I do NOT recommend anyone to eat at this restaurant again. They care more about profit and money than looking after the customers. read more

Service is friendly, efficient, and well-timed (so many places do not talk to you often enough or too often - not the case here), our server Michelle was wonderful and also willing to engage (questions about an upcoming break but also sharing when asked about her exams and the university program she's just finishing)... the only reason it's not five stars is they had a special (halibut w curry pasta) that was quite high-priced for the size of the cut... yummy, but wow chef, that was a bit extreme! read more

First time at XIX two nights ago. I ordered the $15 bacon wrapped scallops for an appetizer not realizing how literal the title was.....I got two scallops on my plate. One less and they would have had to call the appetizer bacon wrapped scallop... They didn't even individually wrap the scallops in bacon....they squeezed both together and wrapped them in one tiny piece of bacon.... My entree as well was on a bit of a diet....$38 only delivered about a 4oz piece of tenderloin It's really a shame because the food was quite good. This is one of those rare occasions where I wish I could give NEGATIVE stars. It is also the first time I've ever posted a restaurant review without actually having tried their food...but that is precisely why they're getting such a bad review. I had made a reservation for five for a special occasion. I was back home from New York visiting my parents and whenever I'm here I like to take them out for a nice meal...the type of slightly over-the-top dining experience two retired people on a fixed income don't typically do for themselves due to the cost. I will say that living in New York for 35 years has made me expect a certain level of quality and service from a restaurant, but over the years finding truly impressive restaurants in Edmonton has gotten much easier. The places I have taken them recently have always delivered and despite taking a few small things to task here and there, my overall experiences have been quite impressive. Which brings us to what happened at the St. Albert location of XIX last night stand out and why I'm reacting this way. We arrived for our reservation a few minutes early. The first thing that stood out was that there was no host/hostess at the entrance. We stood at the entrance for a couple of minutes with servers passing by us...notice us...and simply walk away. When the hostess did arrive, she wasn't particularly friendly, but showed us to a booth in the back of the dining room, left menus for us and disappeared. The restaurant is actually quite nice looking and was not quite half-full when we arrived. Then we waited. And waited. We saw three or four servers moving from table to table, but none came over to us. After ten minutes it became comical. At 15 minutes we had had enough and my wife went to the front of the restaurant to look for the hostess. She was nowhere to be seen so she flagged down a server to explain that we had been waiting for more than fifteen minutes without seeing our waiter and wondered what the holdup was. She apologized and said someone would be right over. And we waited. After another five minutes, I had had it. I told my parents and brother that we were leaving and I escorted them to the front of the restaurant. I then tried to track down the phantom hostess who was still missing in action. I asked her how this half-full place that was trying to pass itself off as a Fine Dining establishment could afford to blow off five covers by simply ignoring a table for twenty minutes! Her response amounted to little more than a shrug and she asked what the problem was! When I explained why we were leaving, she seemed more concerned that my slightly elevated voice might bother those hapless souls still trying to enjoy their overpriced plates of daintily arranged baby vegetables than the fact that I was walking out with what would have been at least $600-700 that should have ended up in their cash register! And about the prices on that menu... As I said, I wasn't allowed to sample any of the fine fare at XIX, but had our party ordered appetizers, mains, desserts and three bottles of wine, the final tariff would have been AT LEAST the $600-700 I mentioned above. I would love to know how XIX place thinks their wildly overpriced menu ($46 for Steak Frites ???) is in any way commensurate with either the location or the level of service they provide! When I see $40 entrees on a menu ANYWHERE I expect to see a waitstaff hovering over me making sure my every need is met. At XIX the servers were busing their own tables, diners were left with empty water and wine glasses while others were looking in vain to try to catch the eye of their waiter. And basic serving techniques aren't even followed. I watched as a server opened a bottle of wine and poured it without first offering anyone at the table to taste/sample the wine to ensure it was not corked or otherwise compromised. As an admitted wine geek, I also have to add that the wine list at XIX is very poorly curated. The list is separated into two parts...the 'regular' list and the 'reserve' list. On the regular side, vintages are nowhere to be seen, as if that information is not important when you're paying three-times retail for a bottle of wine. And the descriptions are also lacking...for example they show 'Vietti Nebbiolo', but Vietti makes a lot of different Nebbiolo wines and it might be good to know which one they're gonna bring out before it shows up at the table. And their selection of reds seems very Australian-heavy, which in my mind doesn't really fit most of the things on their menu (but this is a personal taste thing...your mileage may vary). On the reserve side of the list, the vintages ARE included...along with various wine reviewer ratings points...which undoubtedly will make you feel better about paying the highly inflated prices cuz if you drop a few hundred bucks on a bottle of wine, at least it got 94 points! I took my team here for a Christmas lunch, we were all actually quite disappointed. Maybe we expected too much, but we found the flavours very average and tasteless. The server was really excited to offer suggestions when asked, but everything from the appetizers to the dessert were average. Based on my first experience, not sure I will be back. Only had fries and calamari so I can't comment too much on food. Both of these were fine. We sat in the lounge area. The lounge is nice looking, and I peaked in the restaurant side and it looks nice too. Both sides are pretty small so I could imagine on weekend or more popular dining times having to wait a while. The chairs we sat in are quite wide and the backs were low- I found them pretty uncomfortable. Server was good at explaining the happy hour menu. They give nice large glasses of water; but for the last 45 minutes we were there mine was completely empty and was never refilled which I very much dislike.We got there at 3pm. They don't let you order off the main menu until 5pm since the kitchen is still prepping. I never got too look at main menu. For happy hour they have a variety of appetizers for $12. And there are some drinks for $5 I think. The options sound good from their online menu.... but I do not like that they do not post their menu with prices. From what I saw on the lounge menu I'd say the main menu must be fairly pricey. read more

Steaks are better than the Keg, and I like the keg. They also make an excellent old fashion. My wife is gluten free and they were very accommodating. Excellent meals. read more
