After reading a write-up about this place, we couldn't wait to give it a try. Our first impression of the place was great...Friendly staff and awesome decor! Menu was limited which we were fine with because they still haven't officially opened. Waitress was quick to come over to explain the menu and take our drink orders. After we ordered an appetizer and pizza, they put bread and dipping sauce on the table. So far I was impressed until we went to grab our cloth napkins that were wet. When we inquired about it they said their all wet bc they just washed them and had no dry ones. We excused it bc they are trying to get it the kinks out. We received our food quickly and was pretty good. Now for some advice for the 3 owners. If you have time to sit at the bar playing on your phone and one other hanging out laughing with staff... try going table to table and get some reviews from customers that might be beneficial for business. This isn't NYC where a 17.00 plain 12" pizza is going to fly out of the oven every 5 minutes. Your in a pizza zone with businesses running for a long time. I have been here 4 times since they opened and I must say that not one time have I waited long for service.. the staff has been very friendly and the food is amazing .. the charcuterie with the "bubble" bread is superb! I prefer the brick oven pizza .. best one is Starry Hope!! read more

Stopped by for a quick bite. Delicious calamari app, lightly breaded and tender served w/ awesome marinara sauce. Nice selection of draft beer (had the fat tire). We shared a pizza: their "original tomato pie". Delicious. Friendly staff, server was great. Manager stopped by to see how we were doing. Menu had a nice mix of appetizers, entrees, salads, and pizza. Looking forward to our next visit. read more

The food here is awesome! I get so tired of the same old pizza toppings and flavors and this was a yummy and refreshing place. Went for lunch with my hubby and both got something we love with leftovers too! Maybe a bit pricey but worth it for something so yummy and different. Love the casual atmosphere too. Newburgh needs restaurants like this . Great atmosphere and friendly service. We ordered a pizza and Fried calamari both came out delicious and two entrées.The entrées were of average portion but for $23 the chicken Parm was a small piece of chicken in the pasta was not reheated right. The seafood And pasta dish was very tasty but just three or four shrimps and the rest were mussels . At that price point there should be salad served. Or at least some bread on the table? read more

Friends and I went there for drinks, not a good experience. The bartender Eddie was probably the worst bartender ever. He has no personality and the entire time we were there he was talking about himself and complaining about the owner, wait staff and other bartenders. My buddies and I just looked at each other, this guy was a real downer. It was my first time there and I wont be going back any time soon if this guy is behind the bar. We spoke to a guy seated next to us, apparently he and his wife are regulars, he told us he knows several people don't like this guy and won't come in when he works, so I guess I'm not alone. I have been serving tables part time since college so I'm familiar with how restaurant staff should conduct themselves. When he told us he managed the place, our only thought was they will be out of business in no time if that is the case. But I honestly don't believe him, no owner could be that stupid. Would give zero stars if I could - food was good but doesn't make up for the indifferent service and rude management. Somewhere along the way someone told them that if you act like you don't give a s#%t about your customers they will keep coming back. Not sure that will fly here. Stopped by for dinner with my family the other night looking to try the new kid on the block. Started with the lasagna balls while waiting for our pies to cook, very tasty but not all that hot could have used a little more oven time. We ordered one of each type of pie (which came from two different kitchens I was told.) We were finished with the first pie from the show kitchen before our second pie arrived from the back kitchen followed up a few minutes later by our order of truffle fries. There seems to be a little problem with communication between the two kitchens but being a new venture it's not unusual and it should work itself out with time. The pies were good but I have to say that for the prices they charge there should be more toppings on the pies. The perceived value was disappointing to say the least. Service was okay but when we questioned our server about the timing of the food we got a shrug and a smile, no real answer. read more

My family went down to river first to go to Captain Jakes it was closed. So in passing we decided to try Pizza Union. Friends of mine seem to like it. Big disappointment. The place is very nice on inside I'll give it that. Service was ok. We try to not complain and go with flow when we eat out. But this time it was one thing after another. The food was warm when we got it. strike one . We had to ask for bread.... Italian dish and i have to ask for bread? strike 2.... Bread came when we were done. Dish was so tough and overcooked that I really needed a chainsaw to cut it. Strike 3 I usually would take home my leftovers but not this time (keep it) A glass should be brought when you get a beer.... there was none . We had to ask to turn the music down, it was loud and we had to talk over it. We did end up getting a bit of a discount on the bill when we mention the overcharges on drinks and then told about the food problems. We really didn't care at this point cause we know we won't give a second chance. Went here for dinner with a friend. We both got brick oven pizzas that were amazing. Our waitress was very friendly and joked with us as well as choosing a great drink for my friend who likes to tell waiters to "surprise him" with a drink to try new things. The aesthetic of the restaurant is perfect and inviting. They also did the cutest thing for this one woman's birthday, they blasted 50 Cent "In The Club (Go Shorty it's ya birthday)" and brought out tiramisu with a candle. They seemed a bit understaffed but they are new so little kinks like that are understandable. I definitely want to come back and try other types of pies. read more

It was too pricey for me. It cost approximately $19.00 (with tax and tip) for pizza with mushrooms and a drizzle of their fig jam. I drank water. The pizza was a bit watery, and I couldn't tell if the mushrooms were from a can or fresh. They were large though. Though you get a personal pan pizza, which the waitress states is 6 slices, the slices are not that big, and I ate 4 of the 6. It wasn't bad, but just not worth $19.00 for pizza and water. read more

We ordered lunches, not pizza. Colleague reported salad had too much dressing. The chicken scarpariello seemed almost fried, the lemon wine sauce was more like gravy, and it was served with potatoes not cherry peppers as described. The coffee was fresh and delicious. We have been here before and loved it. I got a seafood linguini dish that was supposed to have shrimp in it, but it did not...but the flavor was great anyway. And hubby had a wood fired pizza and a salad that he said were delicious. So we figured, a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. Well tonight we decided to go back. As soon as we walked in the door, the young guy mumbled something and turned away from us. I asked my husband, did he say just a minute? or have a seat? or what...we couldn't tell. We waited, and were eventually seated. They only had one menu for the two of us to share. I asked what happened to all the menus (it was not crowded), and the guy kinda laughed and shrugged. I figure if you're charging $26 for a pasta dish, you can order enough menus to go around. A waitress came over and asked for our drink order. We ordered a seltzer water and a coke. 15 minutes go by. Nothing...no drinks, nobody to take our order. A table in the middle of the restaurant were just sitting there like they were abandoned. When I saw our waitress serving a table of about 10 people without dropping our drinks off or anything, we finally got up and left. Nobody even batted an eye. Too bad, because the food is actually good. But if they don't up their ante, service-wise, they won't last long. read more

So I decided to go and try this new business out in Newburgh. As somewhat expected when a new business opens up, there was a wait. I was told 30 and it turned out to be around 45 minutes... not a big deal. Right before we were seated, I was informed that they did not have any pizza left, they ran out of dough. I was told that we would get free salads because they ran out of pizza. Those salads never came. I figured we waited for this long so I was determined to try the food out. We ordered our drinks and an appetizer of calamari. The calamari was mediocre at best. At the same time, we also ordered our food. We waited for our food for well over 1/2 an hour. Then only two out of our three meals came out. We proceeded to wait another 5 plus minutes for meatballs and spaghetti. I ordered the shrimp risotto which I found to be not to appetizing. The spaghetti and penne a la vodka my kids ordered taste decent. As far as service was concerned, it sucked. Our server was named Faith and our table pretty much got ignored with the exception of 1 refill. While finishing up our dinner, I saw Faith (our waitress) and what appeared to be the manager/owner arguing right in front of the restaurant. After we were done our meal, I sat there for another 20 or more minutes waiting on the check. Once I got the check, I immediately put my credit card in it and sat there for another 15 minutes before Faith came and got it. She picked up the check and credit card without saying a word. A few minutes later, Faith came back to our table and literally dropped the check like it was a mile drop again without saying a word. I had to find another server and ask for a to go box for my son's leftovers. I will never patronize this establishment again. After considering the price I paid for mediocre food, I truly feel like I've been robbed. Stay away from this place. You'll get better food and service at Chili's!!!! read more

A solid 3 stars for now. Hopefully they are still working the kinks out. Had a short wait so went to the bar where the bartender proofed my son (25) then ignored me and set service for and took the order of another couple that just walked in. Ordered 2 cocktails $21 ???? Was not a double pour or anything special. $10 for Tito's vodka and $9 for capt Morgan plus tax. Ok they're trying to pay off the bar in one night. On to dinner. Garlic bread took 15 minutes to come out but was delicious and served complimentary with dipping sauces. Was still running under soft opening status so had approximately 90% of the menu available which was fine. Placed out food order while eating the garlic bread. Then it took a long time for the food to come out 20-25 minutes. 2 pizzas were expensive but quite tasty. The chicken Park was over cooked the ends of the chicken being thinner were burned while the center thicker center was dry. The marinara sauce used on it was excellent though as was the taste and texture of the cheese. Once again though the price outweighed the quality. The portion was small for the cost. The last order was lasagna which was described on the menu as being prepared with a bolognese sauce which leads you to believe it contains meat. Therefore thinking it was a nice meat lasagna and at $17 a nice portion we were all once again disappointed. If it had meat sauce it wasn't enough to make it orange or even red. The noodles and cheeses were perfectly cooked but due to the lack of appearing as expected and described in the menu it ended up being a disappointment. Last but not least we ordered a Peroni and were served an IPA. Price on beer was good at $6 for an ice cold pint. Like I said a solid 3 stars. Lots of good but lots of not so good. We have ordered from pizza union a few times and it's still the best pizza around despite some complaints. I wish they were in the City of Newburgh and not out on the highway amongst the strip malls. We tried the kale salad for the first time tonight and the ingredients sounded amazing - but the execution was surprisingly bad. Huge pieces of kale and unsalted boiled chunks of beets. Should have finely chopped the kale and cubed the beets, also not sure the point of the huge raw carrot chunks - would have been nicer shredded with the kale. The pomegranate dressing seems like a good idea but it tasted more like fruit juice than dressing. The pizza was still very tasty but when we used to order the original tomato pie it had loads of yummy sauce and very light delicately crumbled sausage. This time it was more like a sausage pizza and with very little sauce. It wasn't dry, but I love tomato sauce which is why we go for this pie. They gave me pepperoni instead of peppers. They told me it would take ten minutes for my 2 pie to-go order but it wound up taking 35 minutes and the place was empty at 3:30 on a Sunday. Imagine if I was an impatient vegetarian! Asked for the white bean topping as listed on the menu but the waitress looked at me like I was crazy! Bottom line, though, is THIS IS THE SECOND BEST PIZZA (Cosmios on Union down Rt. 300 is still best) OUTSIDE OF NYC. I ordered the Roman pie with sausage, peppers that turned into pepperoni, and red onion, and a traditional Brick Oven pie with pesto and perfectly cooked broccoli rabe and both were delicious: light and airy crusts melts in your mouth and the sausage was the best I've EVER had! The pepperoni mistake wasn't so terrible. Pizza sauce is divine! If this place ever gets it's customer service act together it will be worth going often. Recommend giving them a chance but good food like this takes time and the wait staff is clueless, so far. Parking lot is huge. Restaurant is nicely apportioned with couches to wait and a classy bar.
