Located a bit out of the way in East New York, I came here for a friend's birthday dinner. It was a fun place to celebrate, as the interior was colorful, popping with a DJ, and there was a lively atmosphere. Decided to order the Whole Red Snapper Escovitch, which was fried, topped with onion, carrots, and peppers in a slightly spicy vinegar sauce. This was served with a side of rice and peas, as well as steamed veggies. The Red Snapper was beautifully plated and I loved the well seasoned, delightfully crispy and tender meat of the fish. It was made in a certain way that it wasn't difficult to eat around the bones. The veggies on top were nice and crunchy, full of savory flavor. Steamed veggies included broccoli, green beans, and carrots. This was fresh and tasty. Rice and beans were perfectly cooked with yummy coconut flavor. I got to try the Whole Red Snapper in Brown Stew and Steamed. Surprisingly I really enjoyed the Stewed version, as the sauce was boldly flavorful with the fish being succulent and juicy. I also tasted the Plantains and Roti with Curry Chicken. Plantains were deliciously crisp, soft, and lightly sweet. Roti was also good filled with plenty of chicken. Service was solid. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Prices were reasonable. As the place is far from me, I don't see myself returning.

I've been coming here for the $5 meal for a while, I do laundry close by and it's a nice hot little snack while I wait for clothes to be done. It's a small shell container of food and a good way to test out the fare. Food is good and fresh. No other similar cuisine close by to this either so they're pretty popular. They even have a food truck . We've passed by at night and this placevis alive and jumping. Karaoke and other specialty nights every night. This area gets pretty quiet at night after the nearby Gateway mall stores close. Great spots for drinks and dinner with entertainment. Jamaican food - I tried the curry goat, jerk chicken, oxtails and wings. Good vibes, spacious and always clean.

The food was by far the best thing about this experience. Everything was on point. Loved my tender oxtails that had very little fat and lots of tender big pieces of meat in really good gravy. The rice and peas were deliciously seasoned and best of all, neither was too salty or too peppery. The chicken wings and the BBQ ribs were meaty and a good size. I was told the curry goat was also very good. Someone had the plaintain bites and loved them. I could not try them because they were topped with fish and I'm allergic. The drinks were strong and well worth the price. The Ambiance was welcoming and had nice music and an epic bar area. Seats were kinda hard but I guess that comes with the experience. Now, they lost a star for a couple reasons but mainly slow service and they were out of many things. Now the 'out of many things' is very typical Caribbean and you can't be in a Jamaican restaurant without something being out; but here, for example at 2 in the afternoon they were out of ice cream, drink mixes, carrot cake was down to one slice, and several others. BUT they really lost one star because it seemed as if all but one of the front staff called out or were coming in late. One poor person (Brandon) had to welcome people, seat us, take our order, bring out the food, serve as bartender, then as the busperson. He did everything except cook the food! Needless to say it was slow slow slow and we had to ask many times for things like water, hot sauce etc. one table, the woman had to go to the back to pick up her own food and take it to her table! Yes, I would go back because the food was great but also would know to expect to be there a moment!

out with fam and decided to stop by for a few drinks before heading uptown. The fusion fantasy is well balanced..not too sweet and not to strong. The place is clean, not too many people which is how I like it. The music is at an acceptable level so your not screaming at your people.

Came here to celebrate a birthday on a Sunday. I must say, either they changed chefs, really paid attention to reviews, or we just got a good day but everything was very good. Service, food, ambiance. The dj even came over to ask if the music was too loud but we are Caribbean so it was perfect for us. The drinks were great, a bit strong but that's what we pay for right? One fishbowl is ENOUGH lol. We had some shots for the birthday boy but even that was more than a typical shot. Food was great too. Again, not sure if they changed the chef or he was in a good mood that day but he showed up with all the flavor. The escovitch snapper was soo good, the vegetables served with it were a bit spicy but that's expected (if you've eaten it before you know). I asked for oxtail gravy and that helped tone the spice down, but I also add that to every Caribbean dish when I go out. Everyone basically had oxtail and that was great as well. The fusion pasta.. was different. Def not "Rasta pasta" they cook theirs with turmeric or curry where it gets it's yellowish color from. I personally wasn't a huge fan of it but others liked it. The salon cakes and fried chicken were good too. The soup of the day was chicken and that was fairly good too. Not much provision in it but had good flavor. We all enjoyed our food and time spent here. I recommend, esp on a Sunday for brunch. Although they don't have a specific "brunch" menu. Call and make reservations if it's a bigger crowd.

Ordered from Ubereats because they have a deal and my greedy self could not pass it up. Took a while to get to me but the food was really good. I ordered the fried chicken with Mac Mac cheese, collard greens ,and candied yams, which I've never had before. The chicken is fried to perfection and had very good flavor. The Mac n cheese yummy. The collards are not lacking. And the candied yams; just goodness. I also had the escovitch salmon which came with rice and peas; It did not disappoint!! The only thing is the packing of the food that needs to be done better because, all of my sauce fom my salmon spilled In the bag. Other than that the food hit the spot. and I can't forget my hot sauce

I've been a few times and it's always pretty quiet here in terms of patrons. The music and atmosphere is always inviting -afternoon, evening or late night. I've had their oxtail and jerk chicken 8/10 for both. During my most recent visit I had the ackee and salt fish plantain bites... and I was thoroughly disappointed . The ackee was not cooked, not undercooked, just not cooked. And somehow they got all the salt and flavor out of the salt fish. Even the plantain tasted like boiled or steamed banana, there was no seasoning on it. I asked for some pepper and they didn't have, but they brought me minced score bonnet that didn't help at all. They were kind enough to replace it with coconut shrimp, it was good. The drinks were superb. Priscilla puts her foot, toe and elbow in them drinks.

This was some of the best fried fish I've had, if we're talking about just the fish itself. The breading is solid - going with a hot level of spice meant there was a good amount of seasoning on top, but I wouldn't classify it as spicy. It was crunchy at points, but missing the flakiness and true crunch I'd associated with top-tier fried fish. However, where it makes up for this is how good the inside of the fish is. This was spectacular - crazy moist, super tender, and just tasted fantastic. The complete opposite of that rubbery texture you get when you overfry the fish. The sauce that came with the fish was a little bland, however As for the sides, I thought the mac and cheese was really good - cheesy, slightly crispy on top, and cooked very well. I also liked the grits - though a bit buttery. The fries were a miss though. For the price, I think around 25 for the meal and a side is a solid deal. The sides especially come with pretty large portion size that will leave you very full. Overall, this is very good Southern food that I certainly enjoyed. 8.5/10

The takeout takes quite a long while and it's pretty cramped inside the actual restaurant especially to wait, so I'd highly recommend ordering ahead of time online.

So..... we went and totally understand the hype. As soon as you walk in, you can smell the amazing dishes and you can literally feel the love they put on each plate as they serve the guests. I almost don't want to share this review for fear that the line may get longer but this restaurant is now one of the few that I recommend you go out of your way to try and enjoy. Their menu is classically simple but made with an abundance of care and no shortcuts in their cooking. As you are seated you are welcome to place your order in the front of the glass display, they cook everything in house and sometimes they run out of the specials so don't sleep on getting there on time. We ended up getting their lunch specials and picked one main and two sides. I know my girl loves Ox Tails and ended up getting the last plate with some candied yams and Mac and cheese. Let me tell you, we cleaned the plate and it was finger licking good!!! The jerk ribs were amazingly tender and fall off the bone. All of the sides were well portioned and absolutely flawless. Don't come here if you're on a diet there is only one way to enjoy this restaurant and it's to just dive in. FYI - you will need a nap after your meal. This place just hits your tastebuds differently; it doesn't just leave an impression, its mind shattering good. You will sing after the meal - happy dancing the whole time as you're eating.

I wanted to love it so much especially since TikTok critic/MMA fighter Keith Lee visited them in 2023, but my experience was not like his. I want to say that online reviews are almost about accurate. They were out of cold salads and collard greens which was an issue for other customers at times as well. No problem, they were super helpful and offered an alternative but not a good one. I had steamed vegetables that mashed in my mouth like mashed potatoes when I took a bite. I did end up going to another spot for collard greens and potato salad because you can't have soul-food without that. I had the rib dinner with mac n cheese and yams and a tiny piece of complimentary cornbread. The ribs definitely taste amazing but they don't take off the membrane in the back which is slimy and gross. I left that part behind. The yams were sweet and good BUT.....that mac n cheese is NOT soul-food Mac n cheese. Here's the thing I figured out, they use such little cheese but season the noodles very well that you don't truly notice unless you love mac n cheese, which I do, so I noticed it lacked so much cheese but had seasoned noodles. The rib dinner was a 3/5 because ribs were great but sides needed help. I had rice and peas as an additional side and fried wings. The wings were ATROCIOUS! I ate the smallest one and didn't eat the rest. How can you serve such huge feathered wings like that? It was a nightmare. The feathers being on it turned me off. This tells me they don't make their food with care, they move quick to be one and done and I want my food cooked with love and care. They were also frozen wings that were thawed and seasoned, I know the difference. The rice and peas were okay 3/5 as well. Overall the food was not worth the hype. Customer service was beautiful for sure but the food was not it.

Located near Vanderbilt and Atlantic Avenue, this spot delivers that down-home flavor that's hard to find in the city. If you have 10, 15, or 20 items on the menu but most of them are unavailable, what's the point? That pretty much describes my experience with Harlem Seafood Soul. I've driven past this food truck many times while operating the M60 and finally decided to stop and give it a try. Looking at the menu online, I was excited. Catfish, whiting, mac and cheese, collard greens, shrimp and grits, and other soul food favorites all sounded amazing. The problem came when I arrived around 1:30 in the afternoon. I wanted catfish. Sold out. I wanted whiting. Sold out. I wanted mac and cheese. Sold out. I wanted collard greens. Sold out. At that point, most of the options available were shrimp dishes. For a place called Harlem Seafood Soul, I expected more of the soul food menu to still be available in the middle of the day. If items are regularly selling out that early, then either more food needs to be prepared or the menu needs to better reflect what's realistically available. Another thing that surprised me is that I've visited other food trucks and carts that have been featured on TV shows, and many of them have an app, online ordering, or some way to place an order ahead of time. Where do you order Harlem Seafood Soul from? If I'm spending over $30 for lunch, I'd like the option to place my order in advance and have it ready when I arrive. To be fair, the wait wasn't long, and my frustration isn't with the people working there. Everything looked good, and I'm still planning to try the shrimp and grits. My issue is with availability. It's hard to get excited about menu items that aren't there when you arrive. I love supporting Black-owned businesses, and I want Harlem Seafood Soul to succeed. That's exactly why I'm leaving this review. The food sounds delicious, but you've got to do better with keeping your signature menu items available. Customers shouldn't have to arrive before lunchtime is over to have a chance at ordering them. This visit felt like a disappointment. Honestly, I'm not even sure if I want to give it another try. When a menu gets you excited and then most of what you came for isn't available, it leaves a bad first impression.
