Fried fish, mac and cheese and greens
Xavier S.

Are the portions good? Yes. Good service? Sure. (They made a mistake, but gave me the wrong item for free) But that unfortunately doesn't make up for the quality. If you've never had soul food before, then you won't know what you're missing (like enough seasoning, for example). But those with an experienced palate and knowledge that fried fish should be crispy are in for a big disappointment. The prices are cheap, but unfortunately you get what you pay for.

This is definitely a no-thrills cash only spot where someone grandma is cooking in the kitchen...literally. She yelled at me once because I changed my order due to the fact I didn't want to wait 20 minutes for them to make my wings. So there's...that. I ordered the fried fish with Mac n' cheese and yams. The yams were really good. I didn't like the Mac n cheese too much. The fish was crispy. The food is okay and the prices are pretty good. It ran be about $9.50. I would give it a solid 3/5 overall.

Enjoyed my smothered ribs and chopped BBQ (pork shoulder). Sides were collared greens and max & cheese. Yummy ! Only complaint was non peach cobbler (which means I will have to come back). Banana crème pie in its staid was delish. A+++

I hate to leave a bad review on a place that has good food but bad customer service. The man that works there is very rude. When I told him what my ribs looked like from my last order and showed him the picture he could have cared less. I don't go as often as I would due to his rudeness. Food is decent.

What you need to know: - Cash only - Only open Thursday - Sunday - Old school soul food spot that has remained in an ever-changing neighborhood - Small and cozy seating area - Service is fast - The staff is friendly and leaves you alone to eat What we ordered: - Short ribs $15 - The short ribs are so tender that you don't even need a knife! Juicy, melt-in-your-mouth, and generous portions of meat. Each plate comes with two sides and my eating partner order a double order of cabbage. One bite of the cabbage and you'll know why, it's flavorful and perfectly cooked (not mushy and still retains some crunch). - Fried Catfish $14.50 - The catfish had a light batter for a crispy crunch and the meat was flaky and juicy. I just wanted more spice to their batter and flavor for the fish. I got collard greens and mac and cheese. Both were good but the cabbage is better. - The choice of cornbread comes with the plates and they were soft, fluffy and delicious! Get these!

The waitress was super professional and gave us suggestions from the menu items. She suggested the Peaches Punch (rum and positive vibes) and she did not disappoint. Peaches Punch was sweet and citrus. My fam is southern, migrated from North Carolina to Brooklyn, so I am not a stranger to southern food. My mother was a sou cook in a small water front hotel on the intercostal waterway, so I confess I am a chair side critic of collard greens. I do not like collards simmered too sweet. I also like to add vinegar. So we ordered the fried catfish, cornbread, and collard greens. The catfish arrived seasoned and crispy. I added a dash of Texas Petes hot sauce, they seriously offer a variety of hot sauce. Love it. The collard greens were inviting, aromatic, and tender. The smell of the collards reminded me of Sunday dinner after training. Yes, it tasted old school, I greatly appreciated the southern vibe and the great southern hospitality. The main entrées were affordable and the drinks were worth every penny. This is within walking distance from my home. I will definitely return for collard greens. Please make a date to sit out on the sidewalk and order those collards.

During a recent breakfast visit celebrating both my mother's birthday, I had a disappointing customer service experience. I would first like to recognize the young gentleman who served our table . A mexican young man. , He was professional, attentive, and courteous throughout our visit. The issue arose when I ordered a Peach Bellini that did not taste as expected. It lacked the peach flavor I had enjoyed on previous visits and tasted more like orange juice. I asked if it could be replaced with a ginger ale. My server was handling another table and zi was willing to wait. . But a women of Spanish decent light skin and heavy set approached our table and explained there were policies regarding returning something. . Rather than simply processing the substitution, she repeatedly encouraged me to keep the drink and offered to add more peach flavoring. I explained several times that I simply did not like the beverage and preferred a ginger ale instead.. I also told her I an celebrating a birthday abd do not wish to go back and forth. She tried to explain all drinks are made thd same which is not the same. She has to remember she does not just represent herself but the Peaches establishment. As a former bartender, I understand that drinks can vary, despite efforts at consistency. My concern was not the drink itself but the lengthy discussion. I felt pressured to justify a simple request during what was meant to be a special celebration Our bill exceeded $100, and as a longtime customer, I expected a more customer-focused response. If there is a formal policy regarding drink returns or exchanges, it would be helpful for it to be clearly posted. They eventually substituted it. But I should not have to goI though all that. Overall, my experiences at your restaurant have been very positive, which is why this incident stood out. The food was excellent, and our server was wonderful. I hope this feedback can be used as a coaching opportunity. Customer concerns are often best resolved through listening, empathy, and flexibility. .

I ordered the fried chicken with potato salad, dressing and cornbread and peach cobbler. My chicken looked good, but tasted a little dry. Maybe it was just being under a light for a bit. I visited in the evening. Who knows? My potato salad was a bit bland, and I was hoping for some pickle relish mixed in. (If you know, you know.) I'm not a fan of cobbler, but I thought I'd give it a shot. They also had apple cobbler, which I should have stuck with. I can't tell you how the cornbread dressing was. When I got home they forgot to pack it. I don't think I'll be back, but it's a nice place to sit and chat with others while they enjoy their meals.

As soon as you walk in, you can smell the amazing dishes and you can literally feel the love they put on each plate as they serve the guests. I almost don't want to share this review for fear that the line may get longer but this restaurant is now one of the few that I recommend you go out of your way to try and enjoy. Their menu is classically simple but made with an abundance of care and no shortcuts in their cooking. As you are seated you are welcome to place your order in the front of the glass display, they cook everything in house and sometimes they run out of the specials so don't sleep on getting there on time. We ended up getting their lunch specials and picked one main and two sides. I know my girl loves Ox Tails and ended up getting the last plate with some candied yams and Mac and cheese. Let me tell you, we cleaned the plate and it was finger licking good!!! The jerk ribs were amazingly tender and fall off the bone. All of the sides were well portioned and absolutely flawless. Don't come here if you're on a diet there is only one way to enjoy this restaurant and it's to just dive in. FYI - you will need a nap after your meal. This place just hits your tastebuds differently; it doesn't just leave an impression, its mind shattering good. You will sing after the meal - happy dancing the whole time as you're eating.

I wanted to love it so much especially since TikTok critic/MMA fighter Keith Lee visited them in 2023, but my experience was not like his. I want to say that online reviews are almost about accurate. They were out of cold salads and collard greens which was an issue for other customers at times as well. No problem, they were super helpful and offered an alternative but not a good one. I had steamed vegetables that mashed in my mouth like mashed potatoes when I took a bite. I did end up going to another spot for collard greens and potato salad because you can't have soul-food without that. I had the rib dinner with mac n cheese and yams and a tiny piece of complimentary cornbread. The ribs definitely taste amazing but they don't take off the membrane in the back which is slimy and gross. I left that part behind. The yams were sweet and good BUT.....that mac n cheese is NOT soul-food Mac n cheese. Here's the thing I figured out, they use such little cheese but season the noodles very well that you don't truly notice unless you love mac n cheese, which I do, so I noticed it lacked so much cheese but had seasoned noodles. The rib dinner was a 3/5 because ribs were great but sides needed help. I had rice and peas as an additional side and fried wings. The wings were ATROCIOUS! I ate the smallest one and didn't eat the rest. How can you serve such huge feathered wings like that? It was a nightmare. The feathers being on it turned me off. This tells me they don't make their food with care, they move quick to be one and done and I want my food cooked with love and care. They were also frozen wings that were thawed and seasoned, I know the difference. The rice and peas were okay 3/5 as well. Overall the food was not worth the hype. Customer service was beautiful for sure but the food was not it.

One thing I appreciate is that we've always been able to get a table fairly quickly, and if not, grabbing a seat at the bar is an easy option. Peaches is definitely a neighborhood staple. One thing I cannot stand about restaurants or food trucks is having a large menu that you cannot…read moreconsistently deliver. If you have 10, 15, or 20 items on the menu but most of them are unavailable, what's the point? That pretty much describes my experience with Harlem Seafood Soul. I've driven past this food truck many times while operating the M60 and finally decided to stop and give it a try. Looking at the menu online, I was excited. Catfish, whiting, mac and cheese, collard greens, shrimp and grits, and other soul food favorites all sounded amazing. The problem came when I arrived around 1:30 in the afternoon. I wanted catfish. Sold out. I wanted whiting. Sold out. I wanted mac and cheese. Sold out. I wanted collard greens. Sold out. At that point, most of the options available were shrimp dishes. For a place called Harlem Seafood Soul, I expected more of the soul food menu to still be available in the middle of the day. If items are regularly selling out that early, then either more food needs to be prepared or the menu needs to better reflect what's realistically available. Another thing that surprised me is that I've visited other food trucks and carts that have been featured on TV shows, and many of them have an app, online ordering, or some way to place an order ahead of time. Where do you order Harlem Seafood Soul from? If I'm spending over $30 for lunch, I'd like the option to place my order in advance and have it ready when I arrive. To be fair, the wait wasn't long, and my frustration isn't with the people working there. Everything looked good, and I'm still planning to try the shrimp and grits. My issue is with availability. It's hard to get excited about menu items that aren't there when you arrive. I love supporting Black-owned businesses, and I want Harlem Seafood Soul to succeed. That's exactly why I'm leaving this review. The food sounds delicious, but you've got to do better with keeping your signature menu items available. Customers shouldn't have to arrive before lunchtime is over to have a chance at ordering them. This visit felt like a disappointment. Honestly, I'm not even sure if I want to give it another try. When a menu gets you excited and then most of what you came for isn't available, it leaves a bad first impression.

Now that we have that out of the way, on to my review. Upon entering this magical place, I was greeted by a lovely woman behind the counter named Pat, whom is part owner and the wife of the chef. She politely asked me if I had ever been there before, to which I replied, no. Before I could even get that one syllable word out of my mouth, she had already prepared me several samples of what would later become my dinner. Mac and cheese. perfectly prepared macaroni (not mushy) enveloped in Rich and creamy cheese (not saucy or soupy at all) It was if the macaroni and the cheese had combined to become one, glorious, velvety smooth creation whose both flavor and texture were near heavenly. Beef Short ribs. Masculine chunks of slowly cooked beef that is fatty and rich, falling off the bone. (no fork necessary) Stewed in its own natural juices, along with some other secret ingredients I'm sure. The meat is soft and tender and requires little chewing if any. Goes very well with the collard greens Collard Greens: A delightful and hearty stewed green that I am almost certain is made with some kind of pork fat (pork fat = awesome). Both savory and sweet, these green are a great accompaniment to any of the main dishes. Oxtail: for those of you whom are unfamiliar, this is exactly what it sounds like. The meat on the tail. It is very bony, but when cooked right (as they do here), it is soft and creamy, and it full of flavor. The correct way to eat oxtail, is pick it up with your fingers, and suck the meat off the bone. Jerk Chicken. This might have been my favorite. The chicken itself, is most likely cooked on a grill first. The skin is crispy, snaps when you bite it, and is rubbed with a medley of jerk seasoning that is very intense. The meat itself, is moist, tender and can be peeled off with your fingers. Ask for a side of jerk sauce for dipping. Corn Bread. This is complimentary, but do not dismiss it. It is soft and moist, with flavors of honey and maple syrup. It is a perfect sweet to complement all that savory. As that was all the samples, I was able to stuff down my gullet, I will conclude my review by saying, if you want soul food, and you are in New York proper, then go to Soul Food Kitchen. Say hi to Pat, and ask her to try a few samples. Be warned, you will walk out with a full belly, and then you will eat dinner.
