Located a bit out of the way in East New York, I came here for a friend's birthday dinner. It was a fun place to celebrate, as the interior was colorful, popping with a DJ, and there was a lively atmosphere. Decided to order the Whole Red Snapper Escovitch, which was fried, topped with onion, carrots, and peppers in a slightly spicy vinegar sauce. This was served with a side of rice and peas, as well as steamed veggies. The Red Snapper was beautifully plated and I loved the well seasoned, delightfully crispy and tender meat of the fish. It was made in a certain way that it wasn't difficult to eat around the bones. The veggies on top were nice and crunchy, full of savory flavor. Steamed veggies included broccoli, green beans, and carrots. This was fresh and tasty. Rice and beans were perfectly cooked with yummy coconut flavor. I got to try the Whole Red Snapper in Brown Stew and Steamed. Surprisingly I really enjoyed the Stewed version, as the sauce was boldly flavorful with the fish being succulent and juicy. I also tasted the Plantains and Roti with Curry Chicken. Plantains were deliciously crisp, soft, and lightly sweet. Roti was also good filled with plenty of chicken. Service was solid. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Prices were reasonable. As the place is far from me, I don't see myself returning.

This is the oil with a side of snapper I was served.

I've been. Coming here for several years and always has a good experience. However, today was not the day. I placed a take out ordered of brown stew red snapper dinner. Got home and found a oil dinner with tasteless snapper. The fish was drenched in the oil and nothing about it was brown stewed. Will not be going back.

I've been coming here for the $5 meal for a while, I do laundry close by and it's a nice hot little snack while I wait for clothes to be done. It's a small shell container of food and a good way to test out the fare. Food is good and fresh. No other similar cuisine close by to this either so they're pretty popular. They even have a food truck . We've passed by at night and this placevis alive and jumping. Karaoke and other specialty nights every night. This area gets pretty quiet at night after the nearby Gateway mall stores close. Great spots for drinks and dinner with entertainment. Jamaican food - I tried the curry goat, jerk chicken, oxtails and wings. Good vibes, spacious and always clean.

The food was by far the best thing about this experience. Everything was on point. Loved my tender oxtails that had very little fat and lots of tender big pieces of meat in really good gravy. The rice and peas were deliciously seasoned and best of all, neither was too salty or too peppery. The chicken wings and the BBQ ribs were meaty and a good size. I was told the curry goat was also very good. Someone had the plaintain bites and loved them. I could not try them because they were topped with fish and I'm allergic. The drinks were strong and well worth the price. The Ambiance was welcoming and had nice music and an epic bar area. Seats were kinda hard but I guess that comes with the experience. Now, they lost a star for a couple reasons but mainly slow service and they were out of many things. Now the 'out of many things' is very typical Caribbean and you can't be in a Jamaican restaurant without something being out; but here, for example at 2 in the afternoon they were out of ice cream, drink mixes, carrot cake was down to one slice, and several others. BUT they really lost one star because it seemed as if all but one of the front staff called out or were coming in late. One poor person (Brandon) had to welcome people, seat us, take our order, bring out the food, serve as bartender, then as the busperson. He did everything except cook the food! Needless to say it was slow slow slow and we had to ask many times for things like water, hot sauce etc. one table, the woman had to go to the back to pick up her own food and take it to her table! Yes, I would go back because the food was great but also would know to expect to be there a moment!

out with fam and decided to stop by for a few drinks before heading uptown. The fusion fantasy is well balanced..not too sweet and not to strong. The place is clean, not too many people which is how I like it. The music is at an acceptable level so your not screaming at your people.

Came here to celebrate a birthday on a Sunday. I must say, either they changed chefs, really paid attention to reviews, or we just got a good day but everything was very good. Service, food, ambiance. The dj even came over to ask if the music was too loud but we are Caribbean so it was perfect for us. The drinks were great, a bit strong but that's what we pay for right? One fishbowl is ENOUGH lol. We had some shots for the birthday boy but even that was more than a typical shot. Food was great too. Again, not sure if they changed the chef or he was in a good mood that day but he showed up with all the flavor. The escovitch snapper was soo good, the vegetables served with it were a bit spicy but that's expected (if you've eaten it before you know). I asked for oxtail gravy and that helped tone the spice down, but I also add that to every Caribbean dish when I go out. Everyone basically had oxtail and that was great as well. The fusion pasta.. was different. Def not "Rasta pasta" they cook theirs with turmeric or curry where it gets it's yellowish color from. I personally wasn't a huge fan of it but others liked it. The salon cakes and fried chicken were good too. The soup of the day was chicken and that was fairly good too. Not much provision in it but had good flavor. We all enjoyed our food and time spent here. I recommend, esp on a Sunday for brunch. Although they don't have a specific "brunch" menu. Call and make reservations if it's a bigger crowd.

Ordered from Ubereats because they have a deal and my greedy self could not pass it up. Took a while to get to me but the food was really good. I ordered the fried chicken with Mac Mac cheese, collard greens ,and candied yams, which I've never had before. The chicken is fried to perfection and had very good flavor. The Mac n cheese yummy. The collards are not lacking. And the candied yams; just goodness. I also had the escovitch salmon which came with rice and peas; It did not disappoint!! The only thing is the packing of the food that needs to be done better because, all of my sauce fom my salmon spilled In the bag. Other than that the food hit the spot. and I can't forget my hot sauce

The waitress was super professional and gave us suggestions from the menu items. She suggested the Peaches Punch (rum and positive vibes) and she did not disappoint. Peaches Punch was sweet and citrus. My fam is southern, migrated from North Carolina to Brooklyn, so I am not a stranger to southern food. My mother was a sou cook in a small water front hotel on the intercostal waterway, so I confess I am a chair side critic of collard greens. I do not like collards simmered too sweet. I also like to add vinegar. So we ordered the fried catfish, cornbread, and collard greens. The catfish arrived seasoned and crispy. I added a dash of Texas Petes hot sauce, they seriously offer a variety of hot sauce. Love it. The collard greens were inviting, aromatic, and tender. The smell of the collards reminded me of Sunday dinner after training. Yes, it tasted old school, I greatly appreciated the southern vibe and the great southern hospitality. The main entrées were affordable and the drinks were worth every penny. This is within walking distance from my home. I will definitely return for collard greens. Please make a date to sit out on the sidewalk and order those collards.

During a recent breakfast visit celebrating both my mother's birthday, I had a disappointing customer service experience. I would first like to recognize the young gentleman who served our table . A mexican young man. , He was professional, attentive, and courteous throughout our visit. The issue arose when I ordered a Peach Bellini that did not taste as expected. It lacked the peach flavor I had enjoyed on previous visits and tasted more like orange juice. I asked if it could be replaced with a ginger ale. My server was handling another table and zi was willing to wait. . But a women of Spanish decent light skin and heavy set approached our table and explained there were policies regarding returning something. . Rather than simply processing the substitution, she repeatedly encouraged me to keep the drink and offered to add more peach flavoring. I explained several times that I simply did not like the beverage and preferred a ginger ale instead.. I also told her I an celebrating a birthday abd do not wish to go back and forth. She tried to explain all drinks are made thd same which is not the same. She has to remember she does not just represent herself but the Peaches establishment. As a former bartender, I understand that drinks can vary, despite efforts at consistency. My concern was not the drink itself but the lengthy discussion. I felt pressured to justify a simple request during what was meant to be a special celebration Our bill exceeded $100, and as a longtime customer, I expected a more customer-focused response. If there is a formal policy regarding drink returns or exchanges, it would be helpful for it to be clearly posted. They eventually substituted it. But I should not have to goI though all that. Overall, my experiences at your restaurant have been very positive, which is why this incident stood out. The food was excellent, and our server was wonderful. I hope this feedback can be used as a coaching opportunity. Customer concerns are often best resolved through listening, empathy, and flexibility. .

I wanted to love it so much especially since TikTok critic/MMA fighter Keith Lee visited them in 2023, but my experience was not like his. I want to say that online reviews are almost about accurate. They were out of cold salads and collard greens which was an issue for other customers at times as well. No problem, they were super helpful and offered an alternative but not a good one. I had steamed vegetables that mashed in my mouth like mashed potatoes when I took a bite. I did end up going to another spot for collard greens and potato salad because you can't have soul-food without that. I had the rib dinner with mac n cheese and yams and a tiny piece of complimentary cornbread. The ribs definitely taste amazing but they don't take off the membrane in the back which is slimy and gross. I left that part behind. The yams were sweet and good BUT.....that mac n cheese is NOT soul-food Mac n cheese. Here's the thing I figured out, they use such little cheese but season the noodles very well that you don't truly notice unless you love mac n cheese, which I do, so I noticed it lacked so much cheese but had seasoned noodles. The rib dinner was a 3/5 because ribs were great but sides needed help. I had rice and peas as an additional side and fried wings. The wings were ATROCIOUS! I ate the smallest one and didn't eat the rest. How can you serve such huge feathered wings like that? It was a nightmare. The feathers being on it turned me off. This tells me they don't make their food with care, they move quick to be one and done and I want my food cooked with love and care. They were also frozen wings that were thawed and seasoned, I know the difference. The rice and peas were okay 3/5 as well. Overall the food was not worth the hype. Their menu is classically simple but made with an abundance of care and no shortcuts in their cooking. As you are seated you are welcome to place your order in the front of the glass display, they cook everything in house and sometimes they run out of the specials so don't sleep on getting there on time. We ended up getting their lunch specials and picked one main and two sides. I know my girl loves Ox Tails and ended up getting the last plate with some candied yams and Mac and cheese. Let me tell you, we cleaned the plate and it was finger licking good!!! The jerk ribs were amazingly tender and fall off the bone. All of the sides were well portioned and absolutely flawless. Don't come here if you're on a diet there is only one way to enjoy this restaurant and it's to just dive in. FYI - you will need a nap after your meal. Stopped by for lunch and grabbed a plate of Oxtails which came with two sides and cornbread. I…read moreopted for the Mac n Cheese and the Cabbage. I also got a side order of just the BBQ ribs as well and found that the portions were very generous and the price was a steal!!! The oxtails were tender and the Mac n Cheese was solid and the Cabbage also was seasoned well. Flavor wise, I am a little particular as my all-time favorite Jamaican food spot was back in Boston but this was definitely a strong contender. The BBQ ribs were on the sweeter end and were not my personal favorite. The cornbread was a bit dry but coupled with the meal it worked out once incorporated. Overall, the next time I'm back I would love to try the rest of the dishes as they have a lot of great options at a super fair price point!!! Definitely check it out!

I have been to this restaurant twice. Once for a couples dinner and once for a friend's birthday…read moreparty. For the couples dinner my wife and I arrived with another couple and sat down at a booth and waited for at least 10 min before a group walked that's when we were told the booth was reserved. We were told we could stay a while and we ate The food was good. For the party we didn't reserve but arrived and purchased food and drinks and danced. Outside of this establishment can be a bit rowdy with several double parked cars and loud obnoxious behavior. I have never witnessed a physical altercation but heard a verbal dispute and didn't stop to find out what happened.

I was disappointed with the behavior of the two workers in 95 south restaurant and when I went to the server/bartender I was so humble didn't yell and scream and didn't even want a refund from the salty food because I know when I can before the food was wonderful then on top of that with the bathroom situation I understand that you stand on your feet behind a bar to serve drinks and at one point you definitely have to use the bathroom but the way that worker came out stating she's gonna use the bathroom because she works there was so unprofessional and demanding and I waited for sometime also and if she would have ask in a fashionable manner why would I not let her go before me but when she said I'm gonna go because I work here I never been in a restaurant like that I thought the customers are supposed to be treated with respect but I guess I was wrong

One thing I cannot stand about restaurants or food trucks is having a large menu that you cannot…read moreconsistently deliver. If you have 10, 15, or 20 items on the menu but most of them are unavailable, what's the point? That pretty much describes my experience with Harlem Seafood Soul. I've driven past this food truck many times while operating the M60 and finally decided to stop and give it a try. Looking at the menu online, I was excited. Catfish, whiting, mac and cheese, collard greens, shrimp and grits, and other soul food favorites all sounded amazing. The problem came when I arrived around 1:30 in the afternoon. I wanted catfish. Sold out. I wanted whiting. Sold out. I wanted mac and cheese. Sold out. I wanted collard greens. Sold out. At that point, most of the options available were shrimp dishes. For a place called Harlem Seafood Soul, I expected more of the soul food menu to still be available in the middle of the day. If items are regularly selling out that early, then either more food needs to be prepared or the menu needs to better reflect what's realistically available. Another thing that surprised me is that I've visited other food trucks and carts that have been featured on TV shows, and many of them have an app, online ordering, or some way to place an order ahead of time. Where do you order Harlem Seafood Soul from? If I'm spending over $30 for lunch, I'd like the option to place my order in advance and have it ready when I arrive. To be fair, the wait wasn't long, and my frustration isn't with the people working there. Everything looked good, and I'm still planning to try the shrimp and grits. My issue is with availability. It's hard to get excited about menu items that aren't there when you arrive. I love supporting Black-owned businesses, and I want Harlem Seafood Soul to succeed. That's exactly why I'm leaving this review. The food sounds delicious, but you've got to do better with keeping your signature menu items available. Customers shouldn't have to arrive before lunchtime is over to have a chance at ordering them. This visit felt like a disappointment. Honestly, I'm not even sure if I want to give it another try. When a menu gets you excited and then most of what you came for isn't available, it leaves a bad first impression.
