This is a nice place for breakfast or lunch. The staff was friendly, and did an excellent job bussing tables and keeping everything clean. We entered as at least one large group plus some other people were exiting, and all of the tables were picture perfect before we had even decided what to order. One very odd thing is the lack of signage outside during our visit. Maybe they were repairing or getting a new sign? It did feel a bit strange to enter, but there were plenty of happy people coming and going. Once inside, it was very obviously a restaurant. There was nothing wrong with the food, but there was also nothing special or memorable about it. Everything was priced reasonably, so I wouldn't mind returning, but I also won't be in a rush to do so. read more

First time in this restaurant for many years. Ordered the veggie omelette and it honestly was the best omelette I've had in years. Large fresh vegetables, mushrooms and broccoli that weren't cooked to mush as you usually find in most restaurants. The food came out quickly and the restaurant was pretty busy, The staff were friendly, kind and attentive came to our table several times to check on us.. I defy anyone to find a better local breakfast spot. The prices are incredibly fair and the service is very quick. Everything tastes like it was made from scratch, and the portions are HUGE! They recently completed a renovation of the entire front of house that has definitely given it a lighter feel compared to the old interior but it's still the same great food. This is one of the few restaurants left where you will not leave wanting more, in fact, you might even need a takeout box. read more

Delightful!!! We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday... Mostly because we kept passing it during the week on the way to work and it is usually packed!!! We were not disappointed... The waitresses were so nice and service was on point (not too much and not too little)! Had a small cobb salad and it was packed with goodies including pickled eggs, olives, fresh bacon slice, and crumbled blue cheese (asked for no onions and got no onions - usually a crap shoot when at other places)... Also got the Philly Cheesesteak wrap and that was also packed with meat, cheese sauce and veggies and really tasty with fresh cut fries that were right out of the fryer... Sooo yummy!!! This place is a quintessential small town diner style spot that doesn't disappoint. Weekends seem to draw in the crowds for breakfast especially, so time your visit accordingly. Since this was my first time here I opted for the John Boy's Hearty Breakfast, it featured a little bit of everything - eggs, home fries, bacon, pancakes, and toast. The eggs and the pancakes were light and fluffy plus the home fries were fried to just the right amount of crisp. On top of that the bacon blew my mind, it was hands down some of the best I've ever had. Personally, I prefer my bacon to be crunchy and these slices of bacon were prepared perfectly. Very old fashioned decor surrounds this old world brunch establishment. The ladies serving are sweet and attentive. They need to update the tables and walls and chairs and lights. An odd floor vent was blowing cold air directly onto me. Food was good...nice portions... With those updates...definitely check them out. read more

The food was good, but sadly not worth the wait. You could tell very easily by looking around that they treat "regulars" much better than other customers. The waitress was so fixed on helping the customers behind us that arrived 10 minutes after us, that she had forgotten my fiance's drink for the entirety of the meal and we got our food after them. This is a good breakfast/lunch place in our area. On the plus side pancakes were tender and flavorful, sausage is made in house, over medium egg cooked perfectly, and great grilled croissant. We found the home fries to be underwhelming. Fried potato cubes with seasoned salt. I appreciate that the pancake was not overmixed to the point of being tough and dry and it covered the whole plate. You get very large portions in this place. Unlike a couple other reviewers, and as first time customers since it came under new management, we found the service to be very friendly, attentive and fast. We also like the dated ambience regarding tables and decor. Similar to the diners of older times. Only things that I would do to improve this place? Come up with a better and less dry version of potatoes and get a better fork. I almost bent mine just cutting a piece off of that tender pancake. They close in the afternoon so don't plan on having dinner there. Looking forward to bringing family here. read more

From out of town but know the area. Solid for the area. Breakfast and lunch only. No reason to write this for the senior crowd, they go in droves and won't be reading this. But the occasional younger set goes it seems to experience an authentic historic (pre-1970s) local meal. Sort of a local ethnic Americana. It lives up and is worth one try. Was driving down 66 and decided to stop. walked in and the decor was just deplorable but figured ive had some of the best meals of my life in rundown restaurants like this one. the menu prices seemed fair so me and the wife decided to order. i got the bacon cheeseburger she ordered the bbq chicken salad. got my burger and it looked sloppy. my wife started to eat her salad and about 3 bites into it she pulled a long dark hair out of her mouth. we told the waitress she took my wifes salad back to the kitchen and brought her a "new one". my wife started to dig in and noticed a half bitten piece of chicken. they had brought her back the same salad! they just redressed it! needless to say we were highly disappointed. that wasnt even the worst part the next day i woke up sick as a dog and went to the doc turns out i had acute food poisoning. what was supposed to be a $20 meal turned into a $150 doctors bill. i would not recommend this place to anyone. buyer beware!!! read more
