I would implore anyone who brings in good jewelry for repair, to take a picture of their item before handing it over, and demand a print-out of what and where the repair will be on the item. This is standard procedure at most reputable jewelers. Unfortunately, I didn't have a picture, nor a written agreement of the repair. When I noticed a different looking chain, along with 2 different sized, newly added links at the bottom of my 30+ year old diamond necklace, I brought it to the attention of Mr. Velasquez. He took no responsibility for any wrong doing, and in fact, put me on the defensive, accusing me of just not remembering. It should be noted, -my original necklace had a break mid-way up the chain, while my "repaired" necklace had been soldered at the bottom, connecting the newly added links to the diamond portion of the necklace. With no photo and no documentation of repair (hence no proof), I left G.V. Jewelry with a full refund, a cheaper looking necklace, and much regret. read more

We first found G.V. Jewelry when we were looking into custom engagement rings ahead of our engagement in May 2023 and then later worked with Kelsey and Julio to create our custom weddings rings as well. We were looking for a smaller, family run business that did custom rings and came across their Yelp page with stunning ring designs and really amazing feedback on their page about all their happy customers. When we first reached out, Kelsey got us scheduled for an appointment right away and when we came in, we immediately felt comfortable and excited at the process of creating a custom piece. My my wife, then fiance had a few photos of rings she liked but also just some ideas in her mind of what would look good...she described everything to Kelsey who immediately began sketching and showed us what she had in mind...it was perfect! She gave us a really detailed timeline of next steps, kept us updated over email and the phone as updates came in and then worked with me on the side to send over the initial renderings as well as come in to see the ring when it had been created. We first met Julio when I was finishing my master's degree at Northwestern and my husband and I were dating (long-distance) and began talking about getting married. After doing some ring shopping together, my husband ended up working with Julio to design my engagement ring in 2014, and then my matching wedding bands in 2015 after visiting all the local jewelers where we currently live failed to yield any decent results between style, budget, and quality. So almost two months ago, about a week before our 7th wedding anniversary, I noticed the center diamond in my engagement ring seemed a bit loose. I started to panic, especially since I don't live in the Chicago area anymore, so I thought I'd give a local jeweler a try. A friend recommended this particular place, and their website even says they work with custom designs and do repairs. Well, visiting that place was a HUGE mistake. After lots of tears and anxiety on my part, my husband just calmly suggested we reach out to Julio and see what he could do, since he made my rings in the first place. We decided to bite the bullet and make the 6-hour drive to Chicago and it was 100% worth it. Per usual, Julio was wonderfully accommodating, and where the other shop kept insisting my ring would have to be completely melted down and re-created to be "correct," Julio assured us all it needed was some routine maintenance. My rings are very nature-inspired, where the center diamond is set in a modified bezel that's actually a flower, and then the rest of the setting and the two wedding bands are leaves that come up to meet the flower in the middle. Julio was able to adjust the petals of the flower to make the diamond more secure, and in the process, the diamond now gets more light shining through it so it's even more brilliant than it was before. He also checked all the small accent diamonds, gave my rings a good polish, and gave them a fresh rhodium plating, all in one day. Additionally, Kelsey sent us a detailed appraisal for insurance purposes. The prices were so reasonable that my husband and I still saved money driving 6 hours each way with these crazy 2022 gas prices and getting a hotel, over having the local shop completely butcher my rings. Julio is a true artist and craftsman, and still the most honest jeweler we've met anywhere. Both he and Kelsey are a pleasure to work with, and G. V. Jewelry is worth the visit whether you live in Chicagoland or not. My husband and I are fairly certain we won't even bother going elsewhere. read more

My fiance gave me a diamond heart pendent very early on when we were dating, so it had sentimental value to it. When I starting browsing wedding rings, I realized that I rarely wear the heart pendent anymore and should have it made into a wedding band. Originally, I wanted a single infinity band but realized that it could never be resized, and I was told by another jeweler that the diamonds are likely to come loose in infinity bands due to the constant wear/rubbing on the palm side. Instead, I decided to go with two half infinity bands. Julio worked with me to give me the best pricing, and he designed the rings to my liking. I wanted something very simple and low-profile so that I could wear it at work without constantly banging the diamonds, even though it does not match my engagement ring. I worked with another jeweler who had a very hard time understanding what I wanted personally as opposed to what matches my ring, even though I said I probably wouldn't wear my engagement ring much due to the nature of my job. Julio didn't hassle me at all and was very understanding, so I really appreciated that. Julio quoted me two weeks to remove the diamonds from the pendent and set them into new platinum bands, but he was able to get it all done in one week. I like that this is a small family-owned business that does all their work in-house, but I just can't recommend anyone go there for ring resizing. I brought in a custom engagement ring to be taken down a size. They got the size perfect, but when we got home we noticed that there were marks and dents left on the sides of the ring (probably from clamps/whatever tools they used during the resizing) and a noticeable seam where they put it back together. I went back and they were very apologetic, fixed the marks on the sides, and mostly got rid of the seam. The fix only took about 10 minutes, which makes me wish they'd taken the small amount of extra time to check the ring to begin with. The pictures other folks have posted of jewelry the GV team designed look awesome, I just wish I hadn't had a negative experience. read more

I am so grateful for Julio and GV Jewelry! I brought in my engagement ring, which was a band of channel set diamonds with a cathedral set center diamond. I have loved it since I first got it, and it obviously carries a lot of sentimental value. Unfortunately, whenever the ring got wet (so, like anytime I washed my hands), water would get trapped in the channel and, during the cold months, it caused the skin on my ring finger to dry out to the point of cracking. After 4 winters of not being able to wear my rings, I started looking for a solution. I needed a new setting, but couldn't imagine parting with the metal and stones used in my original ring. After all, this is what my husband proposed with; it has so much meaning. Every other jewelry store I talked to said they could melt the ring down and give me a credit for the gold, but that they couldn't reuse the same material. I was truly relieved when I read on Yelp that Julio was able to rebuild rings using their original materials. Julio was so kind, professional, and reassuring through the whole re-design process. He sent lots of emails and CAD renderings to my husband and me, and created a beautiful design that was reminiscent of my original ring, but with updates that would allow me to, ya know, actually wear it. I could not be more in love with the new design. The diamonds are beautifully showcased, and I still see all the things about my ring that remind me of my husband's proposal and our awesome engagement.
