Ok so I am biased because I have worked out with Glenn around 3 1/2 years and we're good friends...but when we started working out, we didn't know each other and at the end of the day, he has gotten me into the best shape of my life. Do you want somene who will yell and belittle you into training hard, only to go home and wish and pray that somehow a bus "accidentally" hit your personal trainer? Do you want a trainer that calls you all the time to see what you are eating like a prison guard constantly searching you for contraband? Do you want to work out someone who cancels without notice, improperly bills you or says you are going to have 1-on-1 sessions only to invite several d-bags they met at Intervention to join in? Well, if you answered "Yes" to any of these questions, don't call Big Bricks. Glenn is on time, treats you like an adult, doesnt yell and scream, and if you want to work out in a class - he'll give you a class, but if you want a solo session (and he has the time available), you will get a solo session. Again, no trainer, and I mean nooooooo trainer will get you to be in shape if you don't want to, so don't expect just to workout an hour a week and watch the pounds melt off. But what Glenn does is he gives you the tools to work out correctly, talks to you about what you should be doing on your own (food/workouts) and doesn't blow smoke up your ass about imaginary results just to keep you coming back for more. As I said, I've known Glenn and have worked out with him since 2008 and it wasn't until mid last year when I finally decided to do workouts outside my comfort zone (comfort zone = treadmill for 45 min and weights; not comfort zone = workouts that made me sweat like a whore in church) that I saw amazing results and hopefully will continue to. read more

As a former fat girl, my foray into health and fitness was stressful at first, and finding a trainer that wasn't pushy or sales-y, who aligned with my fitness goals and wasn't belittling or aggro was a challenge I wasn't sure I would be able to conquer. But I'm happy too say that Big Bricks has stepped up to the plate and proven to be a great partner in fitness. Glen paired me (and my stronger training buddy Amy) with Sara, who I will say is nothing short of amazing. She not only kicks our ass on a regular basis with her workouts that are tailored to our goals and focus areas, but she goes the extra mile to be an amazing mentor, motivator, and support system in our fitness endeavors. Glen and Sara care about their clients, when they are in their training sessions and more notably when they aren't. Amy - my co-pilot in this whole exercise thing - and I signed up for the Tough Mudder, and indeed planned on completing the Tough Mudder. Sara modified our training regime to make us the best Tough Mudders we could be. She also gave us cute cards of encouragement and met up with us AFTER we completed our race for our celebratory shoving-of-the-face-with-tater-tots-extravaganza. Glen busted out some awesome t-shirts for us to wear to the race. Sara and Glen continuously support us in whatever we want to do, keep our workouts interesting (kickboxing anyone?) and in line with our goals, and make our training an experience I recommend to anyone and everyone. They give you the skills to work out safely independently, but make it such an amazing experience working with them that you don't want to. I started training with Glenn in 2006 by accident. I had a wedding to get ready for and started working out with a personal trainer whose work-outs were boring and who really didn't seem to care one way or the other if I was progressing toward my goals. One day, my personal trainer needed to call out sick and so she asked Glenn to fill-in for her. I had never had a personal trainer before, so it wasn't until I worked out with Glenn that I realized what I was missing. Glenn is unique for several reasons. For example, he is extraordinarily prepared, tailoring work-outs to meet both your goals and capabilities. In addition, being an athlete himself, he has dealt with various injuries and can easily adjust at the last minute if you walk in the door and tell him that you've pulled a muscle, for example. I was referred to Glenn at Big Bricks Training in the summer of 2011 to help prepare for my fall wedding. I walked into our first training session as someone who had never been athletic, was completely out of shape and had not seen the inside of a gym in quite a while. I bought a Groupon and it included a few classes here. So far, I've only been to 2 classes, but they are great! Glenn really focuses on building my weak points (upper body, core). I also really like the atmosphere. He usually lets you choose the music and he rocks to any beat. The workout was definitely intense. Glenn really pushed me, and I was actually shocked by how much I did. I left feeling really good, stronger, and excited to come back and see myself improve. I am still not sure if I will be able to afford personal training classes here after my Groupon expires. Though I would LOVE to have a personal trainer and I think Glenn definitely goes above and beyond others out there, I can't shell out a couple hundred bucks a month for it with the job I have now. I hit that wonderful place called your 30's and my body stopped being predictable. What had always worked in the past stopped working, and no matter how hard I tried on my own - I got nowhere except to a place where I racked up miles and miles of cardio with no real result. These days, I know for a fact that I am more in shape and healthier than I have ever been before! I also know that I owe it all to Glen, his patience and his style of training that does not make me run screaming for the door. I personally do not work well with trainers who yell a lot, put me down, or otherwise do the whole "break you down to build you back up" thing. Glenn is phenomenal. Can't recommend him highly enough and can't say enough good things about him. Love his approach to training - not only the actual workouts, but the energy he brings to them. Even if I just got my ass kicked I always walk out the door feeling better and more energized than I did going in. But what I appreciate most about Glenn is that he is realistic, which may sound like a bad thing or even defeatist, but in actuality is hugely important. Each session reflects where my body and fitness are at that day. If I've been running and eating well, we hit it hard. If I haven't gotten up from my desk for a week and subsisted on a diet of coffee and pizza, we go back to basics to get that fitness level back up. And if I walked in the door on crutches I'm sure he'd come up with a way to work around that too. I have trained with other trainers before and none of them have taken the time to assess my weaknesses and injuries and to keep them in focus during all of my workouts. Glenn makes sure that I'm working on improving everything I was doing wrong, so we can correct issues I have had for years. I've never enjoyed the gym- I'd rather be outside in nature or playing a sport. Or doing 5 oz wine curls. But having to overcome injuries & chronic pain, I've had to work hard to build core strength and work on specific areas so I can continue to hike & play golf or walk 10 miles while on vacation. Glenn Hicks helped me recover fully from an injury I had for 8 months. I had seen orthopedic surgeons, went to physical therapy and acupuncture, and the treatments were making my hip injury worse! I am a healthy, athletic person, and I was frustrated that I wasn't getting better. Exasperated, I talked to Glenn one day and he suggested I come in for a workout. Within 1 hour Glenn identified some issues with my muscles, movements, and even posture that were contributing significantly to the injury, not allowing it to heal. We worked on targeting certain muscle groups, training them to respond. After just a few months with Glenn, I am 100% better! I can play my sports with no pain, and I am thrilled with the results. Glenn also noticed a few glitches in my posture. He's helped me work on a few different things to better support my spine. My new improved posture (which didn't seem like a big fix), has given me some kind of magical aura, I swear! I have been training with Glenn for about four years. While I've been a fitness fanatic most of my adult life, I've never worked with a trainer with such "staying power." Chris Keith for example and honestly, he could not hold a candle to Glenn. I presented to Glenn after reading reviews on Yelp. A writer, I had started developing knee and leg pain despite rocking cardio at least five times per week. My leg was KILLING me. Glenn assessed my knee and leg and we went to work. Well it has been six weeks and aside from gaining a very cool cat as a friend - presto, my knee and leg are essentially pain free. I thought I would update my review. I have been training with sara and Rachel. (Replaced Glenn) since sept 2014. They have been life changing trainers. They have helped me push myself to new physical levels I never knew I could achieve. Every challenge I wanted to accomplish they helped me complete them (full wheel, headstand, running a 5k, powered cleans, ropes, trx, convention center stairs, box jumps, chatarangas and over coming my fear of boot camps and now spinning) I have gained so much confidence with working out at different classes in the community and gained functional strength. If I had not started without them I would probably have injured myself in a group setting and never returned to the gym. I have now become a regular gym rat working out 6 times a week. You can also purchase turning point nutritional meals a the gym. This is a very comfortable studio. Rachels boot camps have been an amazing regular social and challenging workout for me. Made some really great workout friends here! Saras tabata classes and Pilates classes are also a great challenge for me. They have water service and towels and they are also part of Classpass.
