I signed up for training sessions I never used, without signing any contract. Two weeks later I had to cancel due to personal reasons. I never got even one session! The owner never provided any information about cancellation, didn't signed any contract and kept my money! Over $400 for a training I never got to use or wanted. I've been a member at Diesel for many years, back to when they were in the old location at Cedar Springs and Oak Lawn. This is a very nice gym. For me, it's better than the big chain gyms. Members come here to work more than they come to socialize. And unlike the larger gyms, Diesel caters more to an adult crowd, which is better for a smaller space like theirs. The staff is super friendly and a few of them have been there longer than I have. The equipment is pretty diverse and well-maintained. The main gym space includes a nice area dedicated to legs and a smaller space for classes, heavy or speed bag work, and other freestyle workouts. There's one thing I'd like to see changed. There's only one lat pulldown machine, which happens to be one of the most popular stations in the gym. To use it when the gym is even moderately busy or when trainers are there, you have to pretty much wait right by it to be next, which can interrupt your workout plan. I have to go when the gym isn't busy to use it, which isn't always possible. Overall, I love being a member here. I keep my membership even when I'm taking a break because I know I'll come back. For training, I use another gym that gives me a little more flexibility for easily moving through circuits at peak hours, but on my days off from that, the only place I want to be is at Diesel. read more

Has an open turf space for calisthenics / stretching, 4 racks, 2 leg press, 2 dumbbell spaces goes up to 100, T bar row, Pec Dec, plenty of chest and back machines. If you're looking for a strength training gym in the uptown area this is the spot. Not crowded like LA or Equinox, John Reed ect. Equipment is regularly cleaned, staff know your name ect. I've seen a review that call this place a "grinders paradise"... that's definitely the truth. Much more space than trophy as well and cheaper. Recently moved to the area and was looking for a gym within walking distance of my apartment. Diesel seemed like the best fit. The monthly price is not outrageously high, but the amenities are very slim. Only one fitness class offered per week, and the locker room could definitely use some updating. What makes me give this gym 3 out of 5 stars is the unwelcoming and very clique-ish nature of this gym. If you don't look like Ryan C. who reviewed this place on 6/12/2020 (the guy who literally has a shirtless pic on his Yelp profile), then expect to not be embraced by the community at this gym. Very grimy business. Started working out there after they reopened, post Covid and enjoyed the local gym feel. Limited equipment, but had what I needed. Their membership options were ~$200 down & ~$35 a month or ~$55 a month. I chose ~$55 a month. After over two years of working out there, I asked to be lowered to ~$35. Makes sense since I have paid that ~$200 deposit 3 times over. They refused. Fine. I keep working out there. Then I get in an injury requiring surgery with a lengthy recovery time and ask to pause or freeze my membership. They say that's fine but then add a $10 Maintenance fee per month of freeze. After requesting full cancellation, they offered a $5 maintenance fee. (Seriously?). I move forward with the cancellation and they advise I will be charged for the next month since I didn't provide 30 days notice. Overall: Decent Gym, shitty management. Tried Diesel Fitness today because it is one of the few gyms that remained open through the ice storm. Read through previous reviews before going, so was interested in what to expect. I appreciated that when I arrived, I mentioned it was my first time in the gym and offered a very short, quick tour (less than ~3 minutes, which I very much appreciate as a lot of gyms spend too long with the tour and try hard to sell the place before you've even tried the equipment). The gym is solid with diversity in selection of equipment. I saw four power racks which is impressive for a gym of this size in the Uptown Dallas area (for reference, LA Fitness in Uptown is at least 5x the size and only has two racks), but only saw one bench with a rack for bench press. The person who toured me also mentioned it's do whatever you like, so I assume they are flexible in what you use and how. Only thing to note/consider is the gym is fairly small. Although it's well set up and has good equipment, I went at 1pm on a Friday and all four racks were utilized so would be concerned going at prime times. Overall it was a good experience, I'll be looking forward to returning when need another gym or want the specialized equipment. read more

This gym has very frustrating business and accounting practices that truly do not serve the best interests of their members. I signed up here only because the personal trainer I hired rented space from this gym. This was where she was hosting her clients, so I had to sign up. After I stopped sessions with her, I truly forgot I was paying monthly for the membership. Apparently, after months went on (of me paying my membership without setting a foot in the place) I got a new debit card in February 2019, and they were unable to collect my monthly dues. Fast forward today. I received a text message from Sam as a "courtesy" to let me know my account will be turned over to collections this week and it will impact my credit score. Sam went on (via text) to provide "proof" of collection calls and emails that were send to me. This list is very long and detailed of calls, VM. However, the year is 2019....the plague of robocalls are endless. Forgive me for not picking up your "E-fit Autodialer" 888 number....When is the last time you called back one of the zillion spam calls you receive a day? I still find any proof of voicemails that were left but for arguments sake, let's say they were. Sam got ahold of me in SERIOUSLY two minutes via text to discuss this situation. This could of been resolved so painlessly months ago...couldn't someone have just reached out like this from the start? I might of even kept the membership.... I really would have just happily given you my new card number, but it's obviously too much to ask to be contacted directly by the organization I signed my contract with. What is at fault here are ineffective outsourcing collection methods that create unnecessary confusion and time consuming debacles for your members. You're a small local gym. That's why people love you. Chill out. The New Jersey collection agency you hired is ineffective. CONNECT with your members the right way when there's an issue. Is that really asking too much of a gym that prides itself on being a small local business? Honestly you would collect more that way. Life is hard enough. Dealing with your gym membership should definitely never get to this point. My new home gym! I moved to Dallas from out of town and I searched Yelp for the perfect gym. I'm not into huge corporate gyms so Diesel is a great fit for me. Its a smaller space, but they pack a lot of functional equipment in there. I have been a member for 2 weeks now and I have never waited for any machine (but I do go first thing in the morning when less people are there). They offer personal training and have a bunch of trainers on staff, I see them everyday working with clients. No one has tried to "sell" me anything, which is cool. I had a trainer previously so I may end up trying a few people, but right now I'm just trying to get into a regular routine again. So far the only thing that they don't have would be an assisted pull-up machine. Otherwise, they have it all...and a good variety of cardio equipment too. They don't have a fancy sauna or a steam room, and they only have 2 showers. If you're looking to get a solid workout with no frills and a very reasonable price in Uptown, I recommend Diesel Fitness. read more

They have easy parking out front on the street and their prices are very reasonable compared to its competition. They have every machine you might want and a sufficient supply of cardio equipment. This gym is total garbage. The staff wreaks of BO and they never clean the equipment. Locker rooms are dirty and there are no towels... Online this place kind of comes across as a crossfit type gym because it seems like you enter the diesel system and come out faster, stronger, and leaner. It is, in fact, not a crossfit gym, but more of a typical gym that focuses on personal training. They are a small gym that values personal training, so all their trainers have 10+ years of experience. The manager said sometimes people leave Equinox/Lifetime because Diesel offers better rates. When talking about their clients the manager dropped a lot of celebs names, some Yankee pitcher, local news reporters, Dallas cheerleaders, people like that. This is a very not-crowded gym, even during their peak hours you'll find it to be open. They say they are able to not have too many members because their turnover rate is so low. I noticed they only had one squat rack, at least in their normal weight training area. They have a "leg zone" that might have another squat rack. Funny enough, they have a sign limiting people to 30 min to the squat rack. I got to use it without any waiting, but there were like 8 people in the gym at that time. Because it is a small gym, the manager said they sometimes play loud music with curse words. So if you don't want to wear your headphones and listen to non-PC songs this is the place for you. This gym has a small, friendly feel to it. From the people I saw, there people of all ages and walks of life here. It feels like a neighborhood gym, but white collar instead of blue collar because we're in Uptown. Instead of "Hey you see Vinny's new IROC?", it's "Did you hear how much Jenkins got in commission last month?" Layout/Facility I would have to describe this place as a mix of old school and new school. They have weight/cardio machines but they don't have the latest and greatest and they have some old stand-bys like a rope to climb, yet the treadmills have screens that allow you to facebook on them. They have industrial-looking metal signs, but the actual architect speaks of an older building (In fact, the building was built in the early 90's with a gym in mind). Like they don't have a towel service (keeps overhead low), yet the water is dispensed from clover machines (as if in response to Equinox's GE homespring setup). They have a half-court basketball, a group exercise room, a 1/16 mile track that runs the second floor. There is an independent massage therapist who works out of the second floor who gives discounts to members. I might have to go check her out sometime if I've got a few knots that won't go away. They also have a tanning bed for members. Gotta work on that vitamin D I guess. Emphasis is definitely more on working out than schmoozing. This is not a meat-and-greet like the LA Fitness signature club in uptown. read more

This business uses certain personal trainers who apparently rent space. I paid that trainer directly but signed up for a membership with Diesel to train with him. Turns out, that trainer in particular was unprofessional and rude and refused to honor my last session for which I paid (long story short). I complained to the business and asked for a refund. I was insulted and threatened with legal action by the very rude and unprofessional gym owner. Go to a gym that has better customer service. read more

Probably one of the most unfriendly and dirty gyms I have been to. I never see any staff cleaning the equipment or enforcing any other members of the facility to clean. It is extremely over priced for the quality of equipment and people in the gym. I highly recommend looking for a different gym in Dallas. Not to mention the gym just opened back up a week or two ago and failed to let some members know but continued to charge them monthly fees. Very great experience with Sam (owner of the gym). Moved away and had changed my credit card out because I lost it so missed the notices and payments for the membership. Sam reached out to let me know it automatically sent over to collections, but was super friendly and helped to call it back. He was also very understanding that I lost my card that was on file for the gym and had missed notices because I moved from my address. He even waived late fees. Solid Gym. Lots of cardio, free weight, and machine variety. Five squat racks which is awesome given the square footage. I rarely use the locker room but it can get the job done if you need. Turf for plyo/push-pull work. Main reason I like this gym is the people there are serious about working out and reaching their goals which is inspiring. Much preferred over the corporate gyms. UPDATE: This place is horrible, and the way they treat people compels me to warn others before entering into an agreement. I lost my job recently and called to cancel my account. I was told to email some guy named Ray Lee at mytrainerray@aol.com to request a cancellation. I wrote Ray three separate times before I ever got a response. His response was that he has 30 days to cancel my account, and that I will have to pay a $100.00 cancellation fee. He said he will look into it later. Great service guys. I wrote back and simply asked for an invoice along with a copy of any agreement that I may have signed. Additionally, I offered to pay any outstanding balance if I am contractually obligated to. His response: "You may come pick up a copy of your agreement. One will not be mailed. If payment has been stopped, we'll turn it over to a collection agency. If payment is still not made, the amount owed will be placed on your credit report." Nice, this clown refuses to even send me a bill or my contract, and then threatens to turn me over to a collection agency without even informing me what I owe. I wrote back offering to send him a self addressed stamped envelop to help him send me the documents I requested at no cost to him. His response: "You can pick your agreement up at anytime. I've exhausted enough energy on this matter." Diesel fitness is a sham of a business, and Ray Lee is representative of the type of service their company offers. None. Ok, this is one of my favorite gyms in Dallas! I drive out of my way just to go workout here! I love it bc the atmosphere really gets you pumped. From the lights to the music to the staff members. But my favorite thing about Diesel is there is ALWAYS a squat rack available!! They've got a ton of them!! I also love the fact that they have a turf to do lunges, sleds and stuff. Ever seen the movie Dodgeball?! This gym is Average Joe's. It's on the 3rd floor of an office building that houses a variety of companies, from restaurants to attorney offices. There are a couple floors of underground parking levels complete with security personal that are shared by all patrons of the building. It's maybe about half a mile from the Katy Trail which makes it easy to go for a nice run outside and get a workout in at the gym as well. There's a half basketball court for those who are so inclined and a couple of workout classes per day. The gym doesn't get particularly crowded even with their after work crowd and is practically dead during the day. The equipment is pretty basic and it's not an especially large gym but it's clean and the trainers are friendly. The racquetball court is a favorite feature of mine and the price is affordable. read more

This gym had good / convenient location (right across from Eatzi's for a post-workout meal!) and works well if you are looking to get in and out quickly. There was always ample parking and equipment available even during post-work rush hour. I tried out the kickboxing class with Ray (?) that totally kicked ass. I also tried a yoga class here - I wish they had a bigger yoga studio but I frequented a nearby yoga studio for that so I could make do. 3 stars, because, as the other reviews said, the cancellation process is a PitA. Beware of that / follow up with the diesel accounts representatives in the gym / plan ahead. Other than that, (and I really wish they had an automated or less complex cancellation process) this is a good facility to get a good workout in the Uptown area. _________________ 02/28/2012: As an update, I followed up with Rebecca at Diesel about my notice of cancellation not having been received, and she was prompt and professional about looking into it for me and resolving the issue with me. This I can appreciate because I'm having to deal with lazy unprofessional representatives at another gym now. So guys, to cancel, make sure you send a letter by CERTIFIED MAIL (I totally ignored this the first time) and hold on to the receipt so you can prove to them you sent the letter if issues come up.
