They also gave welcome bags of eye-care goodies just for attending. The food offerings were anchored by the taco guys (I didn't catch their actual business name). They had a whole spread of condiments to go along with the tacos made to order. There were also sweet treats and pizza. A party feast! At about the same time, my vision was progressively getting worse until I could not improve it by wearing glasses anymore. My optometrist recommended fitting Scleral contact lenses since I have Keratoconus on my left eye and a cornea transplant on my right eye. I went through 3 fittings during the first year. Then 2 more during the second year. But still the lenses did not seem to fit well, I could not wear them more than 6 hours per day or I would get blood shots in my eyes after I take them off. I was almost ready to give up on Scleral lenses, when my Ophthalmologist recommended that I try Ketchum University Eye Center. Fortunately, I became a patient of Dr. Zabaleta when she did her residency at Ketchum University. Dr. Z took a lot of measurements and pictures using the specialized machines. She explained that since I have a cornea transplant on my right eye, I would need the largest Scleral lenses in order for them not to sit on the transplanted cornea. After just 2 fittings, I am able to see 20/20 and wear the Scleral contacts for as long as I want to because they are so comfortable. I was sad and a bit discouraged when I heard Dr. Z was ending her residency and planning to move on with her career. But 3 years later, I am still using the same prescription and Scleral lenses spec. without any issues. I am so grateful for the fitting that Dr. Z did for me that I decided to do a search; lo and behold, Dr. Z ended up in Thousand Oaks. How I wish I could move back to be her patient again. So if you are doing your research, know that you will be in the capable care of Dr. Zabaleta. From your first appointment you will feel welcomed as part of her family that she takes care with lots of compassion and patience. When it came time to look at frames, she just pointed to the small corner covered by my insurance and didn't offer any assistance afterward, even though she said she'd come over to help. While browsing, I overheard her complaining to another staff member about having to submit paperwork for another patient, which made the atmosphere uncomfortable. When I inquired about the prices of the frames on the wall, I simply wanted to get a general idea of the cost range with my insurance something any responsible person would want to know before purchasing. I mentioned a rough range, saying, "So these glasses here are anywhere from $450 to $250?" and Cathy immediately said "No," and started to sound almost combative about me asking. She pointed again to the small corner of insurance-covered frames and said, "Those over there are $125." When I clarified that I meant the other frames on the wall (the ones not fully covered by insurance), she said she'd seen some for $165 or $185, as if trying to argue about the prices rather than simply answer my question. The entire interaction felt unnecessarily tense and uncomfortable. Who goes anywhere to buy something especially glasses without asking about the cost first? Then, when I asked about scheduling a Saturday appointment for my husband, Cathy seemed very reluctant and almost determined to deter me from getting one. She mentioned that Saturdays are only for a few patients and that they're "not there all day." When she asked what time would work best and I paused for a second to think, she immediately implied that there weren't many options anyway. After more back and forth, she finally offered me a mid-November date but even then, her tone made it seem like she really didn't want to book it. As I was checking out, she mentioned three separate times that "if I wanted to cancel the appointment, to just call." After hearing that repeatedly, I've decided I probably will cancel because it honestly feels like she doesn't want anyone there on a Saturday to begin with. On the bright side, the blonde curly-haired lady at the front was genuinely warm and welcoming, and the gentleman at the desk was kind enough to help me with my baby's toy. Those small gestures made a difference. Overall, I left feeling more like an inconvenience than a valued patient. The doctor and most of the staff were pleasant enough, but the lack of genuine care and attentiveness especially from Cathy left a bad taste in my mouth. I showed up unannounced hoping to have a very old eyeglasses acetate frame fixed, I had read good reviews about the service but believe me, the woman who worked that day was amazing. In just two minutes she explained that it couldn't be fixed but that if we found the same shape she could reinstall my lenses in a new frame right away. She looked at the brand and knew right away that they no longer made glasses but (what are tge odds?) her store had bought over all the leftover frames before that company closed. Turns out she had an other one of the exact same model. After some finagling, we ended up having to install the lenses in a completely different brand of frames, which I bought for a very reasonable price. I wish I had asked her name, this lady was wonderful, polite, but real and relatable and I'll definitely go back there next time. read more

Today I had a pair of Art-Craft Art Rim Clubman sunglasses broken on the metal bridge and I was in despair as I could find no frame replacements in my size available on the internet. My wife remembered using Gabe's some dozen years ago and suggested I give him a try. Gabe took a look at the glasses, said he could have them welded back together and straightened out - and I could pick them up in an HOUR! An hour later, my glasses were restored to good as new and for a VERY reasonable cost. They even threw in a hardshell case (which could have protected my glasses if I'd just used one ahead of time). Gabe's Lab is, hands down, the best anywhere! read more

I took my glasses with a broken frame this evening to get them fixed and Anna did a fantastic job! She has outstanding customer service, very polite, incredibly friendly, and she has fair prices. It took no longer than 15 minutes to fix my glasses. She even went the extra mile and fixed a part of my frame that she saw needed additional repair at no extra cost. I will definitely be coming back if I ever need my glasses repaired again or if I need a new pair for that matter. read more

My husband broke his glasses and needed them repaired fast. They did an excellent job and within 24 hours! Next my granddaughter broke her glasses, she is 8. I went in and within 20 minutes, they had replaced the frames! The person that helped my husband and myself was so very nice and really knows what she is doing. Once I had that list, I looked for the highest rated based on genuine reviews. This place became my number 1 to try. Oh. My. Gosh. The reviews speak for themselves. From the minute you walk in, to the minute you leave, you are treated with such a beautiful, welcoming energy. Every woman I spoke to here was kind, compassionate, patient, bright, and so so so welcoming. I easily connected to every single one of them. The entire process was easy, well executed, and most importantly, I felt seen, heard, and welcomed. Both the dr and the staff took their time with me with every test, every question... they thoroughly explained how each process would work, what to expect, etc. They were so gentle. Never ever tried to upsell stuff to me, never pushed me to do or commit to anything I wasn't ready for. Honestly top top top notch customer service. After my appt, I told all of my family and patients about my experience. And I can only hope they come for themselves to see how genuinely awesome this clinic is.
