This will be my go to place for glasses repair and designer frames. My titanium gucci frame got broken and I was told by three different optical stores ( Eye glass factory, lens crafter and Gabe's frame lab) that it cannot be fixed and that I had to buy new ones. I looked on yelp for the fourth time hoping to find someone who could be helpful and found this Academy Optical. The lady who answered the phone was very nice and told me to bring in my glasses and they will try to see if it can be fixed. After seeing the frame, I was told to check back in one hour and they will try to fix it. I came after an hour and I was handed my $3,000 gucci frame mended and looked like it was never broken before and to my surprise they only charged me $25 to which I added some tip with a huge THANK YOU. I would highly recommend them. Everybody has their own perspective and personal experiences but to me it was a pleasant and helpful experience doing business with Academy Optical. So disappointed! This place is OK to check out frames, but prices are double the normal asking price online or other stores in the area. Make sure you price check and let them know, they will come down in price if you ask. But beware of their misleading warranty if you do purchase here. After purchasing a pair of glasses, they convinced me to pay for their high quality lenses so I could get a free replacement if they ever got scratched. The lenses got scratched and when I asked to replace, they denied my new prescription. It was not made clear that it had to be the original prescription only, and when I confronted them, they made me feel like I was rude for asking. Bad Ethics, BEWARE! Follow-up: the owner called to follow up with me. She was very condescending and rude. Do not purchase here. Take your business elsewhere. read more

Hello Yelp, have you ever bought something of value like say $350 eyeglass frames from a super nice boutique store next to Nordstroms? I did, it was Academy Optical in Thousand Oaks. Well I got home, tried the frames on again and decided they were a little flimsy and not exactly right for me...I told my wife I was gonna return them and look for something different, she said my raybans are fine and I have to agree. I went there at opening and told the gal (whom I know...her, her sister and mom) who's helped me with persols in the past, I'm a repeat customer...anyway I had buyers remorse and she said there are no returns only store credit. I said oh? There wasn't any custom work done on them, they still had the silkscreened logo on the factory lens in them. I am sick about it and since the return policy isn't posted or printed, I have to go through the credit card stop payment BS. Oy vey. I wish there was another way but for now, I have to give 1 star. I have some very expensive Zero-G Eyewear titanium frame sunglasses. I wanted my new progressive lenses matched to the existing gradient lens look. I got this fancy pair of glasses a year ago that I never use because they hurt my nose. I went to several places before to try to fixed them but nothing seems to work. Itx funny how my review from almost 3 years ago is "not recommended" because it tells the TRUTH about this AWFUL business.... I don't know where to start with Academy Optical. This place is AWFUL!!! During the last 5 years I spent over $3,000 in glasses at this place and I have recieved the WORST customer service. My last pair of $700+ glasses started to deteriorate after 13 months, when the glasses were brought in they said this was "normal" and theres nothing they can do, after insisting that they send the glasses to the manufacturer they did. When the manufactuer said that its out of warrenty by 1 month (12 month warrenty) they offered to take $100 off my next pair of glasses I bought there. What a F#&(*@!^ joke. Every year I need to spend $700+ on glasses to get $100 off, UNBELEIVABLE. The owner of Academy optical, IILONA was unbeleivably RUDE to my husband telling him to STOP TALKING when he was trying to explain to her how much money we spend at her store every year. I've NEVER met such a RUDE woman in my life. After looking around I realized how OVERPRICED this bussiness is combined with their HORRIBLE customer service. Just returned from from purchasing new lenses at a different establishment. I wish I had never entered Academy Optical. I paid 1500.00 for 2 pair of glasses. When I returned one pair because of scratches on the lenses all I received was acknowledgement, "yes they are". They were still under warranty non scratch lenses! Returned on another occasion and was greeted with such indifference. Total cost will be 1100.00 for this pair! Disappointed to say the least. It wouldn't have cost her a thing but time. I have been buying glasses here for ten years. I have always had great service. Recently I purchased a pair of prescription Oakley Flak Jacket sunglasses. I picked them up and the next day left for a 3 week vacation in Colorado. The glasses seemed a little blurry and all my previous Oakley s were always super clear. When I got back in town I went to talk to Nancy who sold me the glasses about the blurriness . Nancy was very nice, she checked the glasses and they check out to the prescription. Then Nancy offered to send the glasses back to Oakley for further evaluation. I agreed and a couple of days later I received a call from Nancy at Academy Optical. Oakley told her that they could not make those glasses in my prescription right because of my extreme astigmatism. Oakley said that they should have notified Academy Optical about that before making the glasses. Nancy then told me that Oakley would make me a new pair of glasses in a compatible frame of my choice. I agreed and few days later came back to Academy Optical and Nancy had already picked out the compatible frames and had them ready to try on! Nancy even suggested the frame that I liked the best (Crosslinks). Nancy sent them off to be made and a few days later I picked up my glasses and they are EXCELLENT! Nancy followed up a few days later with a phone call to see how I liked the glasses, perfect I said. I really appreciate the service that I received at Academy Optical.
