I truly enjoy living at Gables Point Loma! Although I particularly want to give kudos to the staff! Before signing my lease papers I could genuinely tell that the employees here truly enjoy their jobs. I do have to give a shoutout specifically to Angel. He is absolutely wonderful. He is so helpful and always waves and has a smile on his face. He is a very hard worker and goes above and beyond for residents. Great experience when showing the apartment but the administrative side of it is the worst did an application very poor communication had to go with a different company asked for my refund for the deposit 2 weeks ago and haven't received it . When asked about picking up my check "they dont do that " just mailing and still waiting for it 2 weeks later. No wonder they have the worst reviews the fact they are retaining my deposit this long tells me what kind of company you are dealing with. read more

I've lived at Gables for about 1yr and wanted to give praise to Angel, a member of the maintenance staff. He truly goes above and beyond to help tenants and has, on multiple occasions, helped my roommate and I out -- even dipping into his personal time to help us kill a bug in our apartment. He is always a friendly face around the complex, waving hello and saying hi to my dog. He is so polite and kind, I truly cannot say enough how much we appreciate having him here at Gables. This is going to be a long review about our experience at Gables Point Loma (2023-2024). Firstly, this location was great. It felt safe and tucked away. We were on the fourth floor facing the ocean and Sea world which by far was the best view to see occasional fireworks throughout the year and watch planes go by. We were quickly accepted and picked our day of move in. As time went on and approximately 5 days before move in, we got notified that the room we would be staying at, the current tenants wanted to re-sign their lease. I found that odd we would be getting notified just days before our projected time to move in. Thankfully they had another room available which ended up having the better view. When I went to get the keys, I was told by Jillian that she had just done a walk through and everything looked perfect in the room, but to give it about 10 more minutes before I went up because maintenance was giving it one last mop. I walked around the building and the amenities before heading up, walking in to a man fully masked, moping the floor with a yellow bucket full of black water. Approximately 5 minutes into my walk through of the apartment, I was already calling back to the front desk due to the amount of issues that clearly were not checked at all. The kitchen light did not work, along with the garbage disposal that also did not turn on. Upon inspecting the dishwasher itself, there was rust, cobwebs and what I can imagine as hard water stains all along the bottom. This was not nearly as bad as the inside that was full of rust, mold and looked ripped apart, broken and full of dirt? The fridge looked okay, however, the ice machine was also full of rust, an orange substance and flakes of some sort, and the spout for water and ice was full of black and white/pink bacteria and mold. The living room area had outlets that were loose, or shoved into the wall, which later became more of an issue as they sparked when anything was plugged in. Walking in to the bedroom, to my surprise, another light did not work. The big mirror doors for the closet were a nice add, but because they are heavy, they often fall off the track and shake which I can only imagine is very loud to my downstairs neighbors. When entering the bathroom, the shelf for towels was hanging on by a thread, the nails stripped from the wall and just floating (which then fell off the wall two days later). When attempting to check the bathtub, the spout was stuck on the "shower" setting, almost like super glued. These were all things noticed immediately checking the room out. I suggested Jillian to come to the room to look at what I was seeing as she just claimed she was in here to make sure the room was in move in condition. She instead sent maintenance up, who quickly got to work. This became a routine for an entire month, waiting for new parts and light fixtures because it was not just burnt out light bulbs. They replaced small parts of the fridge when I complained about mold, until two weeks in the entire thing went out. I was given a brand new fridge and dishwasher. The sink begun to leak and also needed replacing. The air conditioner was full of black mold, and when a bad small came out of it, I took it apart to try and clean it. I let maintenance know, as I ended up being sick from October to December. I was advised that this was a "new unit" and was only a couple months old before we moved in. At this point, I did my best to sanitize what I could, but did not want to deal with anything any longer as I knew our stay was not going to be very long term. Windows need repairing as they let a lot of water and moisture in, make sure to get a dehumidifier and air purifier. Doors are slamming constantly due to having windows open, they shake the entire floor. One door on the main floor leading to the outside from the elevators is another culprit that no one has the decency to close themselves besides swinging it full force. I could hear it from the fourth floor daily. I rate two stars because once all issues were addressed, the rest of our stay at Gables was nice and without any other problems besides our car almost being towed 5 months in because they assigned our spot to someone else because it was not in their system. Please ensure you are standing your ground to get things fixed and follow up with them (or anywhere for that matter). Getting a hold of the front desk takes some time, but they usually will call back. Location is great, close to a lot of stores, food and coffee shops. I wish they would clean the pool more often, as it usually sat stagnant with a film and bugs. Water gets shut off with little to no warning/email. After moving out, I waited for our security deposit which despite given an alternative address as requested, it was still sent to our gables apartment that we had vacated. I know I could have more to say, and usually I take reviews with a grain of salt, but most reviews given do speak truth about this building. read more

I can't say that I love living here, in fact it feels like I work here always following up on the many issues that have been around for 3+ years. Hopefully this laundry list will make people realize that this is in fact NOT a safe environment to live in. -Laundry Room: This is always down. They blame the CSC vendors that supplies machines are always delayed. They also report that they "clean" the room daily. This is not a hard task to get 2/5 machines up and running. ALSO, the people that live in the building apparently don't know when to take their laundry out on time, it is constantly filthy with pet hair and they are unaware that you take out lint after you dry your belongings. YUCK -Pool and the Deck Area: This area is now FULL of seagulls and bird manure. The gables takes unnecessary steps to "redo" the floors (which produced a terrible outcome) and they are not taking necessary and swift steps to take it to a sanitary level. It's truthfully disgusting how they expect their residence to use the amenities when they've created an environment they choose not to clean up. Also, notice how they just DUMP bleach into the water without taking measures. 4th of July, IT WAS GREEN and a friend of mine got infected. -Grill Area: The grills down and up on both areas are always dirty, filthy, and most of the time, doesn't work. They have taken no steps to ensure a clean and sanitary cooking area -Fire Pit: It is almost ALWAYS broken. Now that we've covered the amenities, lets get into the building. -Hallways: They are now never cleaned. They redid the floors and painted the walls (and doors and when they did, they painted the doors while being closed meaning now, there is paint chips stuck on the door when you open it) and the floors are way more dirty than they ever were. They blame in on lack of staff. -Stairways: They never ever touch this. If you go through the stairwell on either side, you WILL find dead bugs, pet hair, and old items just laying around for months on end before someone notices that it's maybe time to do a clean. -Recycling: Wow, do residence not know how to break down a box? I deep clean every time I leave for a few days and when I came back, it was so dusty, I could not even breathe. I had to deep clean again all night just to get it back to what our place kind of looked like. This was a nail to the coffin. OVERALL: if you are looking for a clean and livable place, this may not be it. Don't get fooled by the amenities. If you are touring, LOOK with your eyes. This property takes 2 steps "forward" by doing unnecessary things like paint the walls, but they also can't afford to replace security cameras (dont get me started on that) and 1,000 steps back. read more

Writing this review in the hopes that it will save someone else money and more importantly their sanity. I originally toured this place for my boyfriend as he was not local at the time and upon first appearance and meeting with the front desk staff, there were no obvious red flags I saw therefore I gave him the thumbs up. BOY was I so wrong, obviously, I have stayed here countless times with him and let me just start by saying this place is by FAR the worst of viable places to live for the premium price you are paying. Rent here for a one-bedroom is $2300, and to my knowledge, they are increasing it even more to over $2400 as of now. Save your money and go somewhere else, literally anywhere else is better than here. I have never felt safe staying here with him, which surprisingly is actually something the Gables community have stated in their own words to us that they cant "guarantee safety". I have had to deal with confrontations of a resident living here because he is mentally unstable, my boyfriend has had to come stay with me due to the possible exposure of mold in his apartment, he has dealt with damages to his car, we rarely ever used the amenities here because 1. they were either always broken, with no date of when it would be fixed and 2. even if things were working in the proper order they were disgustingly FILTHY. Seriously do yourself a favor and don't look twice at this place for your new home. read more

I have lived at this complex for almost 2 years now and there has been an issue on my account for the past 10 months that has taken an absurd amount of time to be taken care of. I get rental assistance and when my wage increases, so does my portion of the rent. In December of 2023, my rent portion went up. In February of 2024 I went to the office of Gables Point Loma and spoke to Jillian (the property manager) to let her know that my rent was less than what it was supposed to be and that I would like it to be fixed. That issue was not fixed until August of 2024. This was when all of the backrent was added to my account at once totaling $4,730.32. (This was including Augusts rent) I went back through my entire account and noticed that this amount was over by about $1000 (probably a little more). The customer portal was not allowing partial payments and the issue was yet again, not being resolved. I payed the entire amount to keep my account in good standing, because if it didn't then each month, it would have continued to go up. The property manager, Jillian, mentioned that they could allow a partial payment on my account which never happened. Since paying that full amount, my finances are completely behind. I don't mind paying what I owe but I overpaid and now have been trying to get my money back with no resolution. It is now November 19th and this credit still has not been issued back to my account. The property manager has told me multiple times that is going to be resolved "by end of day today" (I have voicemails and emails from her stating this exactly on different dates) but it is still not resolved. I have also been told that there is no one else I can speak to regarding this issue. It is not being resolved with the current manager and I need to speak with someone who has the authority to fix this issue as I cannot wait another few months. THIS IS NOT OKAY AT ALL. I have been dealing with this for months and if it was resolved in February this year when I had initially brought it up to management, then this bigger issue would not have ensued. As of today, this issue is still not resolved and I am NOT HAPPY with this. It is taking an absurd amount of time to be resolved which makes no sense. I am also not getting answers to my questions, and half the time, my emails do not even get responded to, I have to reach out for updates if I want them otherwise it will get forgotten about as it has already been forgotten about once before. I just wanted to update. I no longer live here but recently visited a friend at the gables. The pool is in dire need of cleaning the hot tub is scary dirty. Everything is broken still. Police were there for the one night I was there. I know the new staff seem to be doing their best. It's not enough. They don't have the power to do hardly anything. It's disgusting and nothing has changed. Had I ever received a response my reviews I would have never left reviews and probably would have deleted my review. Such a poor mistake on gables behalf. Let me remind everyone we paid over $2000 to break our lease. It was that bad. We are lucky we have the $ to do that. We could have afforded the extreme price change but gables isn't living up to the prices they are charging at this point. Everything escalated because Gables gaslights and ignores. My husband did have his own concerns and I had mine. They addressed the man's issue but not mine. Bad form Gables. I hope you get your act together. This was the worst place I've ever lived. Im so happy now away from this toxic situation. No worries to respond because the staff has totally changed.. No one in the past ever has and the staff turn over speaks volumes. Please Respond to everyone in the future. I feel like this was incredibly sexist. I felt incredibly unheard. If staff responded to things this review may not exist and possibly would have never escalated to the point it did. We left mostly because of the commutation issues and the mold, dog poop everywhere, fleas, ants, freezing pool, filthy pool, nothing ever works, game room was closed the day in was there. Let me just let you in on a secret. The game room is only open when the gables is open and right now they are short staffed and closed a lot so don't count on it. I'm posting this to do anyone who reads this as a favor. I care more about helping people not waste their $ to move there. I'm aware Gables/ vendors always are working on the same issues from a year ago etc., nothing ever changes. I want everyone to know mostly that it's a disgusting place to live, over priced and something is incredibly wrong with this place. I'm clearly not the only person with this experience. When I found Gables, three years ago it was under different management than it has now. I was extremely excited because I was moving from Wisconsin to sunny San Diego, a goal I had finally obtained. I was I formed to go through the apartment with anyone toothed comb on move in, and I did. I found a few things that were damaged and I wrote them down and took pictures of them to ensure I wouldn't get blamed for things damaged at move out. Throughout my three years at the Gables I was constantly disappointed. First I am severely allergic to fabric softener and laundry detergent scents and every day I had to keep my windows closed because the laundry scents wafted right into my apartment. Because i had to have my apartment closed I thus had to run my AC constantly for air movement and to keep my apartment cool enough to live. It was a constant struggle. The maintenance crew was less than responsive and entered apartments even after it was noted that I didn't want them entering without me being present. Every summer (except this last summer) there was an influx of short term leasers, mostly Irish people who came to work at places like LEGO land. When they were there they took over the place. Loud parties, up until all hours making all sorts of ridiculous noise. This would go on for three months straight. The apartment the girls stayed in had 20 people living in it. Literally. It was unsafe and super irritating. Next there's a "game room" that was continuously being renovated. I think it was open for one week and those people as stated above, threw a party and clogged the toilet having raw sewage pour out onto the floor and to our outdoor sitting area this ruining the room once again. Not only was the game room under constant construction but the hot tub was also continually under construction and not usable. Probably for half the time I lived there the hot tub was not useable. The ice maker in my refrigerator didn't work properly, I brought it to maintenance awareness and it was never addressed. My shower rod came off of the wall, and maintenance came and "fixed it" by shoddily screwing it into the wall and never filling in the holes it was originally in. There was a time that there was a leak in the wall from an above apartment, and the wall in the hallway behind my bathroom was this removed to correct the damage. It took them months to fix the hole in the wall, and they only fixed it after I found roaches in my apartment and demanded that wall fixed. There are MANY aggressive dogs on the property and owners who don't leash them. I'm an animal lover and I was often frightened for my safety. The ventilation is subpar. I had BLACK MOLD growing in my bathroom and window sills because there isn't any ventilation in that apartment. So when it came time for me to move out, this past November, I had a horrible experience. I moved everything out into my new place and spend HOURS cleaning the Gables apartment. I reread through the lease because i remembered that it had Said if you live there for greater than 20 months they couldn't charge you for carpet/floor cleaning, blind cleaning and normal wear and tear. Upon move out, Daniel Martinez notified me that I had an outstanding balance because they had to replace the carpet and there was wear and tear in the apartment. I sent a screenshot of lease indicating that I couldn't be charged for those things and I was basically blown off and told that it was greater than normal wear and tear. I said I didn't agree and I asked for his managers number so that I could discuss this with them and he refused to give it to me. They lowered how much I owed but that was not the outcome i wanted. I attempted to talk to corporate but I didn't get any response there either. The Gables do not follow the lease that they have you sign. They are unreasonable with what they say is normal wear and tear. And they are severely unpleasant to communicate with. In conclusion I would not recommend anyone rent from them. The price of $1800 for a 600 sq ft apartment is ridiculous for all of the nonsense that you have to go through with them is not worth it, in my honest opinion. Gables Point Loma - The information about cleaning that i sent to the management office - Apartments Near Me - San Diego, California

This is the first time when I began to HATE working from home and regret not breaking the lease. Maintaining one's mental health is more important than a $2,000 deposit. For some reason, I thought that reviews here were exaggerated, but this is just a nasty candy wrapped in a nice package. Good things: * double sink * water dispenser in the fridge Noise: * Living in this building is challenging as you feel like you have an invisible housemate (your upstairs neighbor). You can hear EVERY step through those thin wooden floors, and things get way worse when someone is a "heavy walker". Falling asleep or even taking a nap can be difficult. If they play music or have a constantly barking dog, you start thinking about working and sleeping in the car. When someone jumps upstairs or drops something, your floor will shake. * Airplanes: you will continuously hear them from 7 am to 11 pm. * Fireworks: SeaWorld's daily fireworks at 10 p.m. will make you hate any fireworks for the rest of your life. Parking: * Administration will tow your car from your assigned spot if it is not moved when they plan to do any road painting work. The notice is very short, so good luck with your travels. It happened twice in late November, before and after Thanksgiving. * Cars are getting broken into all the time. Unit: * Despite reporting an electrical issue multiple times, it was not addressed until the situation escalated and smoke and cracking started to appear. Took me 3 months and numerous work orders! * The AC unit is very loud (60-70 dB) and inefficient. During summer, it struggles to lower the temperature from 79 to 74. I had to purchase a heater for winter because it was always cold. * Mold. Does not matter whether it is a building or close to the beach or something else, but it will appear quickly. * Water will be shut off for the entire building in case of an emergency in any unit (since it's an old building), and this will happen 1-2 times per month. One hopes such an event will not occur right after using the gym before work. Amenities * The jacuzzi is always dirty because there are trees above it. * Laundry. They replaced laundry machines and made them temporarily free, but usually, you will spend $1.75 per cycle. Things are getting stolen here - I don't know what kind of people were interested in stealing my towel... * "Playroom" exists, but you cannot use it unless you request a key. So nobody bothers to go there. Other notes: * Greedy. They wanted to charge me extra +10% to extend my 13-month lease for 1BD, and then they listed it with -10% price when I moved out. They had 25 empty apartments at that moment on the website with the same price. That should tell you something. * Security features in this building are a joke. * Smell of dog urine everywhere. read more

The staff is really nice and much better than they used to be. That's what I can say about this place. They really try and make this a great place to live and I do honestly feel they care. They must get a lot of crap because of how this place was left in their hands. However, they are limited by the stubbornness and selfishness of corporate to spend ANY money. Corporate is disconnected and do not care about the people or the apartment here. I've talked to them. They don't care. If you're looking for a place with a pool you CANNOT swim in for 3/4 or more of the year because it's freezing (literally, it feels like ice buckets and is as cold as the ocean - 65 last I checked though it feels colder now. They advertise it being heated to 72 and then change the story on you), if you want your clothes to be ruined in the laundry every time you do them (bleach stains, dirt stains, other peoples dog hair and other nasty stuff, laundry room floods with sewage) not to mention my expensive yoga pants getting torn up and in the washing machine. They are "working on it" but they have been for over a year. If you'd also enjoy a place where domestic violence issues and threats are a regular occurrence, sad but true. The police are always here and we never know why unless it's our neighbor or someone we know. Packages get stolen despite you paying extra for secure lockers. I asked them to put up a sign for the delivery drivers and they need approval from management. However they can put no parking signs up outside of their office all day with no approval! If this sounds good this is the place for you! Otherwise I don't recommend. What is our 10% per year rent increase going towards? And yes they increase that much per year, every year. My neighbors lived here 6 years. I will say the hot tub is great, pool area is beautiful but pool is mostly for looking at since it's impossible to swim in, gym is nice. Oh and mold growing the apartments that don't get taken care of. Corporate - when will you address the issues? PS: they just towed my car because they're repaving the parking lot. Why? The parking lot is totally fine. Know what's not fine? See above and many other things. Yes they warned us via email but there is no reason that parking lot is being repaved, and they know who parks in which spot so it would be kind of them to call and tell us. They said 4 people got towed yesterday. Not hard to call 4 people. Your excuse for not heating the pool is you being eco friendly right? So why are you hiring all of these big trucks to come tear up the road that was completely fine and redo it for no reason? - not environmentally friendly. Why is the laundry flooding all the time? - not environmentally friendly. Why do we have a small box for AC and heat (not environmentally efficient because it has to work really hard and doesn't heat the whole place). Why doesn't anyone here know how to recycle yet no one is reminded that cardboard boxes don't go in the landfill? It's not the environment, it's money for corporate. The rich do get richer don't they? Update - they did get mold paint so we will see how that goes. That's nice. Before it was just on you or they would paint over it and it would grow back. Not normal for an apartment. So thank you for that, but overall this place isn't worth it. read more

Gables reached out by replying to this review. I responded on 8/17 to hopefully have a positive dialogue about what's going on. Gables has a word of mouth reputation for giving tenants the run around and never providing substantive answers or resolutions, so I fully expect this to be another feint. They're welcome to prove me wrong. Business days waiting for a response: 8 ***Update*** I guess I'll respond here since Gables is leaving gaslighting public responses and they know precisely where things stand from our private communications. Perhaps I should post the emails? First, I emailed feedback@gables.com after their response to my initial review, which they subsequently deleted. Interesting. Never did get a response, per usual. Now, a different email to contact. They know how to reach me. Which takes us to two. Yes, we have been in contact with the office and attempted to contact corporate, but they're still either unable or unwilling to answer the questions we have on why vendors typically take the blame for repairs taking a very long time, and why they continue to use said vendors. For example, the fire pit has been broken and closed since 8/4 (4 weeks and counting) while waiting for a vendor to assesses the broken switch. Unless, that is, there is more wrong with it that they knew about and aren't admitting to. One of the five washing machines in our building has been down since 8/7 (three weeks and counting) - another vendor issue. The office did refer us to two individuals in corporate, who have not been responsive and previously routed any attempts at communication back to the on-site office. The office here has claimed they cannot get corporate to respond to us if corporate doesn't want to. And they can't (or don't want to) get any answers from corporate. It's a runaround stall tactic to try to wear us out. How's that tactic working? Not well, not well at all. Third, the office, specifically Brooke, continues to deal with residents in a disingenuous manner. Specifically, she denied the details outlined in my previous review regarding the washing machines to another resident who had their clothes damaged. Brooke's account is the washing machines were always maintained by the on-site staff. Not true. They were supposed to be responsible for the cleaning, but they were not even aware regular cleaning was not in their contract with the vendor until residents pushed for information about why the cleaning wasn't getting done. Brooke knows many residents are talking to each other and sharing info, but still operates this way because she has zero accountability. Obviously corporate doesn't hold her accountable, and I can only assume it's because it is not part of their corporate culture. They sure do seem to have passing the buck down to a science, though. Four, other residents continually leave trash and recycling in the trash rooms, which attract ants and flies. I get that it's part of living in SD in the summer, but having stacks of empty bottles and cans a few feet from my door sure don't help. It took a couple of cycles of maintenance requests and emails to allegedly get this put on their daily walk-through. TBD in how this is handled going forward. I mean, it's 2021 and she's no less a resident than me nor less responsible for the rent than me. Shouldn't she get an equal response? I came back to alter this after the past week. GOOD: The location speaks for itself. You won't find anything else like it in SD. New leasing office staff, very responsive, seem quite eager to just be polite/helpful. Office staff took time to help look for lost parcel. Office staff actively working with another vendor in SD to get better washing machines. Maintenance crew is hardworking and friendly. *I am very pleased with the new office staff and am looking forward to see if they turn the complex around!* BAD: Water pressure is almost nonexistent for top floor units. Cox is the only provider, and the lines are bad, so don't pay for gigablast because you will not get it. Complex is dirty. All of it. Hallways, grounds, "dog park". No cameras in parcel pending area. Packages are often left unattended and can be stolen. I have personally had 3 parcels go missing in my two years here. Black mold is an issue in many apartments, be sure to search thoroughly. Washers do not work well, dryers burn clothes. (Office staff is working on correcting this by replacing machines.) Maintenance crew is understaffed (not their fault, but are very hardworking!) STAY AWAY - Gables Point Loma is a rotating door of problems. I've lived here for a year and the FIRST day I moved in, they towed my car with zero reason and never resolved why. The amenities are cheap and i've gone weeks before getting a reply to maintenance requests. The people who live here are a nightmare, and police are constantly responding to calls at all times of the day. There's dog fescues on every sidewalk and I found out via the staff that there is asbestos in the walls and they won't do a thing about it. My car was damaged several times and when I approached management for answers, they noted that there aren't enough video cameras and refused to install video cameras to capture theft and damage to cars, bikes and property, especially packages. That's not something you'd like to hear when you pay $2,300 a month. Speaking of money, if you were looking to do laundry at their (very poorly maintained) facilities they charge $1.75 per load. Here's another fun stat, I've ordered a total of 30 packages over my time here and only received 20. Amazon takes pictures of the item being delivered, so that means 33% of the time you will have your package stolen. My favorite quote from the leasing office: "we cannot guarantee safety" If you're thinking of making Gables Point Loma your new home, PLEASE think again. read more

Had a maintenance request for month to replace the closed door as it was out of the rail and as usual the request goes unanswered and ignored like all the issues in this horrible place that it ended up falling on my daughter's head and I had to rush her to the ER. After that I decided I have to leave this place as it's not safe anymore to live there and when I informed them all they care about is charging me with early termination fees even though I am leaving cause you're making this place impossible to live at!! Worst experience ever. Worst place to live in. The laundry, grill and garage gate are never working, cars got broken into several time, packages are always stolen, no camera, no follow up. Here's your luxury style apartment you will be moving into! Trashy baseboards is standard here, along with chipped wood cabinets, hope your not on the first floor! We hear every foot step from our upstairs neighbors from the time they wake up to the Time they go to sleep. The building is old and has super thin walls and ceilings so keep that in mind. These photos below are from an album I started when me and my girlfriend moved in so they were all taken the first week of March 2020. Pictures say enough. Look elsewhere for a luxury style stay. Front office is super nice but nice doesn't make you good at your job. Stay on top of your records with this office and file everything. Luckily we did because some how our ten month lease got turned into a 12 month lease, luckily we had all our documents or we would have been stuck here for another couple months. read more

I recently moved to Gables Point Loma and I am very happy with my decision. Getting the paperwork done for the lease was super easy. Lesley was super helpful during this process. She followed up thoroughly and answered my questions in a timely manner. I have placed maintenance requests and they are taken care of in a timely manner. The staff is professional and very helpful. This is a beautiful apartment complex, with modern appliances, modern amenities, and, it is located in a central location of the city which makes it easy to get around anywhere. This place doesn't look like a bad spot to live, but the management is AWFUL. They do not have the staff to manage this many residents. They send out 5-10 emails daily to the entire complex. We all know how busy we can get with life/work/school and it's easy to miss those. Sometimes they will include an asphalt laying date the week of thanksgiving, a time when many people fly home to see their families. Well if you traveled, your car got towed. You also pay that tow fee and getting your car out of the lot. Plus the days your car sat there in the lot. That could be an easy 500 dollars. They towed multiple vehicles and they're doing the lot AGAIN a week later, still threatening to tow any residents. Oh, these parking spots are also an additional fee added to rent. So not only are you paying to park, you could potentially pay for a towed vehicle. The only positive is the maintenance staff who do their best to help. read more

Hello All, I wanted to take a minute and share the positive experience I've had at Gables Point Loma. Let me start of by saying that I had all but given up moving down from Murrieta to San Diego before I found this place. The places were run down and over priced. I was so pleasantly surprised when I visited Gables! The view is amazing. The apartment is completely updated. The location is fantastic. I'm close enough to everything but the fact that it sits atop a hill gives it a private quaint feel. The list of amenities I was looking for made my search difficult but Gables checked all the boxes. Assigned parking because parallel parking isn't a strength of mine. The on-site laundry and the app where you can pay on your phone are The neighborhood feels safe! The pool, gym, bike storage, extra storage lockers and friendly neighborhood vibe had me signing the lease the same day. Last but definitely not least is the Gables management team. They've been amazing throughout the whole process. Very friendly, helpful and have made me feel welcome. Moving from another town can me daunting but Brooke, Daniel and Joshua made it a positive experience. I truly feel like I'm home. Thanks! read more

I moved into this property in July of 2020 and moved out a year later. I highly recommend NOT living here. The building is in horrible shape and the pictures on the website are very misleading. There are constant water leaks so the hallways are always ripped up for months at a time. I also had BLACK MOLD growing on my windows and when I informed management they did nothing about it. The management also called me a day before I was supposed to move in to tell me they had a leak and that I could not longer move in till a week later. This was a huge issue considering I had to start a new job that day. They put me in a different unit for a week so I had to live there with all of my stuff in boxes and no internet. THEN THEY WOULD NOT EVEN REIMBURSE MY RENT FOR THE WEEK! This was a horrible experience since I was moving to a new city for a new job and could not even find my work clothes in all the boxes that I had. This place is horrible. Gables, if you plan on doing anything, put in your comment exactly what you will do to resolve the issues. ** For the sake of anyone considering moving here, I am leaving this review to warn you as I would have wanted the same thing done for me. This complex is out for your money and has little to no concern for their tenants comfortability or safety. First, cars are broken into ALL THE TIME here (even in the car ports-- mine has been two or three times already). I have also had countless packages stolen, hundreds and hundreds of dollars worth of stuff. Second, everything is made extremely cheap in these apartments so something is always broken or malfunctioning due to such cheap materials and appliances. I hate to keep putting more maintenance requests on the maintenance guys, but something is almost always broken in my apartment. For the price you are paying, these apartments are FAR from worth it. Once my shower wasn't working for multiple days. Though it was eventually resolved within the week, I was not offered another living situation or rent deduction for that month and had to take my own time and money out to figure out how I was going to shower after long days at the hospital I work at. I also had a week I couldn't use my kitchen or sink, so I couldn't cook or get drinking water and it was the same thing-- no compensation or rent deductions. They just said "sorry it was frustrating for you"and refused to address it. I have also had mold in my apartment which they've just shrugged off as a part of "living close to the beach", though we are about an 8 minute drive from it. The laundry here also does not work. You pay for each cycle, and a lot of the times the clothes are still very damp. The stairwells are extremely dirty. The heaters don't really work and they apartments are very cold. I could go on and on. I am currently speaking with a lawyer regarding grounds to sue for uninhabitable circumstances, but in the meantime, I encourage you to keep looking for a different place to meet your housing needs as this one will take a lot of your money and you will find yourself extremely disappointed. read more

I lived at the Gables for almost two years, in a one bedroom for the first year, and in a two bedroom for the remainder. The location is central, and the views are scenic. The units are older, but have been recently remodeled and are pretty classy. I have nothing but good things to say about the staff. They were always helpful and efficient, from management to maintenance. As always, there are downsides. There are only so many ways into and out of the Point, which brings a fair amount of traffic during peak hours. Noise is also a concern. The Gables are under the outgoing flight path of San Diego International Airport, and also well within earshot of the fireworks at Sea World, which has a show every night around 10PM during the summer. Both of these take some getting used to. It is also by and large a younger crowd at the Gables. Obnoxious parties were not particularly common, but there were definitely quite a few people loudly wandering home on Friday and Saturday nights. Overall, I really enjoyed the time I lived at the Gables. The gripes above were minor and manageable. The rent ended up being too high for me in the brave new economy, or I would still be there. read more

I lived here for 1 1/2 years and finally just moved. The police are at this building almost every single day, I've seen several people get arrested in front of the apartment and apartment search with dogs. There's constantly dog fescues in the stair way and elevators. I've had hundreds of dollars worth of packages stolen out the package room and even out of my front door. I've brought up this issue to the front office several times and I always got the same response "someone probably took it by mistake and will return it" but never had anything returned. I've had my clothes stolen out of the dryer twice before the machine finished drying them. Half of the washers are always broken at some point. The windows were cleaned one time out of the entire time I lived there. The hot tub is always disgusting, I've only ever seen them clean the gym one time. I received multiple emails saying that the parking area was broken into over night and the bike racks were broken and bikes stolen. Overall I felt very unsafe in this apartment. Very questionable people live here and it's in a bad area. If you walk 5 minutes down the hill it'll bring you to an even worse area where I've seen guys standing there selling drugs at midnight and full of homeless people. The only good thing I can say about this apartment is the maintenance guys which are there to fix anything within a few minutes of calling and the ocean view from my apartment. The price of rent is the same as other apartments in nicer areas with washer and dryers in unit. I would avoid this apartment at all cost. read more

This is probably the worst place to live in San Diego, everything about this place is awful from the sliding doors that constantly break to the ant problem despite paying extra for pest control, this apartment management once entered my apartment unannounced and locked my door when I came back I didn't have my key to get in so I went down to get them to open my door and they had the audacity to ask me if I even lived there, they're constantly turning the water off, parking is so limited and neighbors are rude so are the management & maintenance people I pass one of the workers almost everyday because we live on the same floor and he has never once said hi or anything. Terrible place !! Too small for what you pay, and rent will go up after your first lease term. DONT LIVE HERE FIND ANYTHING ELSE I PROMISE ITS NOT WORTH IT HERE. read more

The apartment's are nice inside. And neat layout. But there's definitely some things that personally bothered me. Maybe it won't bother you. I was unable to renew the lease due to their increased rates! If you're looking for a permanent living situation, such as a few years, I don't think this will be the place for you. Once your first lease expires, they will raise the price to renew. My renewal rate was much higher. Due to the constant crowd of large trucks, busywork, construction work, and movers etc theres always noise in the cul-ta-sac. Every single morning. The noise and crowdedness got old. Always something going on: Once they finished construction on a building, then they take out and redo the laundry room, then they replace pipes so you can't park in your carport, then they have apartment checks, then they do a repaint so they come into your apartment to paint the door, then they have maintenance checks in your apartment.... so on and so on. They're trying to keep the place nice but it's a lot going on all the time. They do have great options for outdoor activities. The pool is never warm but you can go in the Jacuzzi and the barbecue pit for grilling. The pool chairs are nice and cozy. They also have a little gym which has both machines and free weights. You'll have to pay more for a storage unit, protective car port, or special partial boxes for large packages. And these are monthly charges to add on to your rent However, when maintenance is needed or something in my apartment fixed, the maintenance guys are quick to respond to your request. They are quick at completing the task at hand. They've fixed a couple things of mine, such as the A.C or broken outlet and always make sure to clean up after themselves. I would like to take this opportunity to share my experience about the level of service at the Gables, Point Loma. I have been a resident for over a year and because of the professional level of service each staff member has provided me, I have chosen to re-sign my lease for another year as of June, 2020. Daniel and Josh have always responded professionally and courteously in response to my needs for service and have a positive can do attitude. The Manager, Brooke has been very helpful with our leasing questions and last but not least the Maintenance crew is 2nd to none.
