I bought an 1984 Alfa Spider that stop running. I called 6 mechanics and could not find anybody willing to look at my car. Mr. Gabor was willing to take a look at my car, turns out that rodents were eating through some wires; previous owner did not drive the car much and was mostly in storage. Driving up to the PS Aerial Tramway, my Saab 9-3 suddenly experienced a power less and intermittently went off. I was on a family holiday to SoCal, and this was set to spoil it. Luckily, I took my car to Gabor's the next morning. The mechanic located and solved the problem virtually in no time. (Fortunately, it was just the turbo pipe that had been blown off.) There aren't that many shops around that know how to service a Saab, so this one was a true life-saver. It was also great to chat to Beatrix, who runs the shop with Gabor (who was abroad at the time). She even made me a cup of espresso and drove me over to my hotel while I was waiting. Last but not least, they charged me a very reasonable price. Thanks for the other Yelpers for giving Gabor's shop five stars! I had a problem with my Mercedes 300D -Turbo 1983 in the vacuum system. I was told that I needed a new transmission since the shifting of gear was affected. I ADORE GABOR! Without the kind service of this man, I would be taking the bus right now. My hand-me-down 2000 turbo VW runs great and now has AC. Note- I drove all last summer without ac because we could not find a mechanic who knew how to fix it. I had no idea foreign cars truly required special know how. Earlier this year I had left my car off at the family's usual mechanic. I decided this time around something had to give and I could not drive a whole summer in the desert without ac again. The family mechanic is great- good for brakes, suspension and other basic auto repairs, but when it came to fixing my AC- which includes knowledge of how the electronic relay in foreign cars works, he didn't have a clue. He did try though and kept my car in his shop for SEVEN WEEKS!- Finally he admitted he could not solve the problem. I found Gabor online. He kindly and patiently took care of all of my queries. The AC was actually just one of the issues I was dealing with. There were a handful of other issues I had to professionally get fixed too, yet the following he fixed of his own accord: My indicator lights were not working- he patiently trouble shot the issue and fixed it. The inside of the driver's door was falling off and he kindly fixed that, the car was dispelling exhaust, and he made a minor adjustment and fixed that, a screw to the oil pan had been busted and he fixed that too! All without me asking him. He only charged me for those items we had agreed to fixing and put in a few special 'fixes' out of his own kindness and perhaps because he may have had a little spare time... I'm not sure if he will always be able to offer special free fixes on top of the other work he will do for your car, but he has gone above and beyond for me and I am grateful for his clear communication and grounded service. He is a very good mechanic, with excellent customer service, manners and accommodation. however, he is also very expensive and just be aware, his repair cost estimate is literally just an estimate. Car broke down, sent it to the nearest mechanic to where it broke down. They spent countless days trying to fix, but they did not manage, finally I towed it to Gabor, it took him 3 days to get it running again, fixing all of the damage the other mechanics did, we agreed on the cost or repairs, two days later I went to pick the car up, when it was ready, I was pleased, went to pay the bill, the bill was almost double the discussed amount.
